An outstation taxi is a car and driver that leaves the city with you and stays with you until you are home again. It is how most Indian families take a hill holiday, attend a wedding in a cousin's hometown or visit a string of temples over a long weekend. RutzIndia.com offers outstation cab booking from every city we serve, on round trips and one way drops, in everything from a compact sedan to a 26-seat Tempo Traveller. You get a fixed per-kilometre rate, a clear minimum, and a written quote that lists every extra before you travel.
How much does an outstation taxi cost?
Outstation cabs cost Rs 36 per km in a sedan, Rs 42 in an Ertiga, Rs 57.6 in an Innova Crysta and Rs 78 in a Tempo Traveller. Round trips bill at least 250 km per calendar day. A same-day Bangalore to Mysore return in a sedan is about Rs 10,440 Pay Now to Reserve, before 5% GST, tolls and parking.

How round trip billing works
The formula is short and worth understanding, because it lets you check any quote yourself.
- Count the calendar days the car is away from its home city, from the day of departure to the day of return inclusive.
- Multiply the days by 250 km. That is your minimum billable distance.
- Estimate the actual distance: out, back, and any sightseeing on the way.
- Take whichever is larger and multiply by the per-km rate of your car.
- Add the driver's night allowance of Rs 1,500 for each night away, plus tolls, state permits and parking at actual cost, and 5% GST on the fare.
Why a daily minimum? Because the car and driver are committed to you for the whole day, even on a day you spend at the resort pool. Clients who plan relaxed trips simply get those kilometres to use: a short excursion from Manali to Solang on a "rest day" costs nothing extra if you are under the 250 km allowance.
Round trip fares on popular routes
The examples below use distances from our route pages and the standard per-km rates. They are before GST and exclude tolls, permits, parking and the driver night allowance.
| Round trip | Distance one way | Days | Billable km | Sedan | Innova Crysta |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bangalore - Mysore | about 145 km | 1 | 290 | Rs 10,440 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 16,530 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Mumbai - Pune | about 150 km | 1 | 300 | Rs 10,800 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 17,100 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Delhi - Agra | about 233 km | 1 | 466 | Rs 16,780 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 26,560 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Chandigarh - Shimla | about 115 km | 2 | 500 | Rs 18,000 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 28,500 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Delhi - Jaipur | about 280 km | 2 | 560 | Rs 20,160 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 31,920 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Bangalore - Coorg | about 265 km | 3 | 750 | Rs 27,000 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 42,750 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Mumbai - Goa | about 590 km | 4 | 1,180 | Rs 42,480 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 67,260 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Delhi - Manali | about 540 km | 5 | 1,250 | Rs 45,000 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 71,250 Pay Now to Reserve |
Look closely at the Chandigarh to Shimla row: the drive itself is only about 230 km there and back, but over two days the 500 km minimum applies. That is why a one way drop is often better value for short hill runs when you do not need the car up there. Detailed route pages include Chandigarh to Shimla, Delhi to Jaipur, Bangalore to Coorg, Mumbai to Goa and Delhi to Manali.

Per-km rates and multi-day minimums by class
For longer holidays the useful question is not the per-km rate alone but the smallest bill a trip of that length can produce. This table multiplies each rate by the 250 km daily floor for two-, five- and seven-day round trips. If you drive more, you pay for the actual kilometres instead.
| Outstation class | Per km | 2-day floor (500 km) | 5-day floor (1,250 km) | 7-day floor (1,750 km) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sedan (Dzire class) | Rs 36 | Rs 18,000 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 45,000 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 63,000 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Ertiga / Carens | Rs 42 | Rs 21,000 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 52,500 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 73,500 Pay Now to Reserve |
| City / Verna / Camry | Rs 48 | Rs 24,000 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 60,000 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 84,000 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Innova Crysta / Hycross | Rs 57.6 | Rs 28,500 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 71,250 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 99,750 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Tempo Traveller (up to 26 seats) | Rs 78 | Rs 39,000 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 97,500 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 1,36,500 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Fortuner / Gloster / Meridian | Rs 84 | Rs 42,000 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 1,05,000 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 1,47,000 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Urbania | Rs 102 | Rs 51,000 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 1,27,500 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 1,78,500 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Mini bus | Rs 130 | Rs 67,500 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 1,68,750 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 2,36,250 Pay Now to Reserve |
| E-Class / 5 Series / A6 | Rs 170 | Rs 82,500 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 2,06,250 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 2,88,750 Pay Now to Reserve |
Add 5% GST, the driver's Rs 1,500 for each night, and tolls, border fees and parking as paid. The fares page covers luxury SUVs, the Vellfire and coaches.
A worked Himachal example
Chandigarh to Shimla, on to Manali, and back to Chandigarh over five days covers roughly 115 km, then around 250 km from Shimla to Manali via Mandi, then about 310 km home: say 675 km plus local running. That is well below the 1,250 km floor, so an Innova Crysta is billed 1,250 x Rs 57.6 = Rs 71,250 Pay Now to Reserve, plus four nights of driver allowance, Himachal entry tax and parking. Because the floor is already paid for, day trips from Manali to Solang or through the Atal Tunnel to Sissu cost nothing extra. See the Himachal taxi service page for seasonal notes.
What a whole holiday costs by road
Real trips mix highway days with lazy days, so here are four complete round trips priced the way we bill them. Distances are approximate and include some local running at the destination; whichever is higher of that figure and the daily floor is billed. Fares exclude 5% GST, night allowances, tolls, state fees and parking.
| Round trip | Days | Approx. km driven | Billable km | Sedan | Innova Crysta | Tempo Traveller |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bangalore, Mysore, Coorg, Bangalore | 3 | 600 | 750 | Rs 27,000 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 42,750 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 58,500 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Delhi, Agra, Jaipur, Delhi (Golden Triangle) | 4 | 850 | 1,000 | Rs 36,000 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 57,000 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 78,000 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Mumbai to Goa and back, with Goa sightseeing | 4 | 1,330 | 1,330 | Rs 47,880 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 75,810 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 1,03,740 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Delhi to Manali and back, with Solang and Sissu | 6 | 1,280 | 1,500 | Rs 54,000 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 85,500 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 1,17,000 Pay Now to Reserve |
Two lessons stand out. First, on the Goa trip the kilometres exceed the floor, so the bill follows the odometer. Second, on relaxed hill holidays the floor usually governs, which means you can explore around your base freely without the bill moving. For the Golden Triangle the tour by car page lays out a day-by-day plan, and for Karnataka the Coorg route explains the Mysore road and the ghat climb to Madikeri.
Night allowances matter on longer trips too: on the six-day Manali holiday, five nights at Rs 1,500 Pay Now to Reserve add Rs 7,500 Pay Now to Reserve for the driver. Everything is on the quote before you pay.

Round trip or one way drop?
Choose a round trip when you want the car at your disposal at the destination, when you are touring several places, or when public transport back is inconvenient. Choose a one way drop taxi when you are moving from one city to another, catching a flight or train back, or staying long enough that keeping the car would waste money. A few rules of thumb:
- Staying more than two nights with little local driving? One way there and one way back is usually cheaper.
- Visiting three or more towns? A round trip keeps your luggage in one place and saves repeated pickups.
- Travelling with elderly parents or small children? The continuity of one driver who knows your family's pace is worth a lot.
Weekend getaways from the big cities

Hill and long-distance driving: how we plan it
Outstation trips are where a driver's judgement matters most. Our planning norms:
- Daylight for the climbs. On mountain roads such as the stretch beyond Mandi towards Manali or the ghats to Ooty, we schedule the steep sections in daylight and avoid arriving after dark where possible.
- Rest for the driver. On very long days, such as Delhi to Manali at around 12 hours, the driver takes proper breaks, and we may suggest an early start or an overnight halt rather than a straight run.
- Seasonal awareness. Snow closes or slows high roads in Himachal from roughly December to February; the monsoon from June to September brings landslides on hill and ghat routes. Himachal Tourism posts useful travel advisories, and our desk checks conditions before departure.
- The right car. For Spiti, Kinnaur or rough Kumaon roads we recommend a Fortuner on rent or similar SUV rather than a sedan. Every outstation car is within four model years, which matters on a 500 km day.
- Permits and green taxes. Himachal and several other states levy entry fees or green taxes on outside taxis, and some high passes need a separate vehicle permit. These are paid at actual cost and receipted.
Car rental for outstation weddings and group trips
Family weddings are one of the biggest reasons people book outstation cabs. A typical request: three Innovas and a Tempo Traveller from Delhi to a destination wedding in Jaipur or Udaipur, staying three days, shuttling guests between the hotel, the mehendi venue and the palace for the main function. We quote this as a set of round trips from the same origin, each billed on the 250 km daily minimum or the actual distance, whichever is greater, with night allowances per driver. Because the cars stay on site, they can double as local transport for the whole celebration, which is usually cheaper than hiring separate local taxis at the destination. For the couple's own car, look at our wedding car rental and luxury car rental options.
School trips, office offsites and pilgrim groups are the other big category. A 17-seat Urbania on rent at Rs 102/km is quieter and more comfortable than a standard Traveller on long runs, while a mini bus on rent or a Volvo bus suits parties of thirty and more. Seating plans, luggage carriers and multiple pickup points are all arranged in advance.
Before you set off: a short checklist
- Share your full itinerary with the desk, including hotel names, so the driver can plan fuel stops and toll-free alternatives where sensible.
- Carry photo ID for every traveller; hotels and some temples and border areas ask for it.
- Keep small cash for places where UPI signal is patchy, such as high passes or rural dhabas, although tolls are handled by FASTag.
- Pack motion-sickness tablets for winding roads to Shimla, Mussoorie or Ooty; ghat sections can be hard on children.
- Agree daily start times with the driver the evening before, especially in the hills, where an early start often means clearer roads and views.
- Check weather advisories in the monsoon and snow months and allow a buffer day on tight schedules.
Long drives with elderly parents or small children
Family road trips are the heart of outstation travel, and a few adjustments make a long day far easier for grandparents and toddlers alike:
- Break the day into two-hour legs. On a 280 km run such as Delhi to Jaipur, two planned stops, one for breakfast and one for a stretch, add perhaps 40 minutes and remove most of the fatigue. Tell the driver your preferred halts at the start.
- Pick the middle-row captain seats. In an Innova Crysta the second-row captain chairs are the easiest to get in and out of, and they leave a walkway to the back row for children.
- Start early in summer. From April to June, plains temperatures climb fast after midday. A 6 am departure from Delhi or Ahmedabad means most of the driving is done before the heat.
- Carry motion-sickness remedies for ghat roads. The curves above Kalka, the Kodaikanal and Ooty ghats and the climb to Mussoorie affect children most. Front-row seating and fewer snacks before the climb help.
- Keep medicines in the cabin, not the boot, along with a change of clothes and water.
- Plan the last hour. Arriving at a hill town after dark on unfamiliar lanes is tiring; our schedule aims to have you at the hotel with daylight to spare.
If anyone in the group has mobility needs, mention it when booking so we send a car with a comfortable step height and room for a folding wheelchair.
Tolls, FASTag and the costs outside the fare
Every outstation cab carries a FASTag, the electronic toll tag that is mandatory on national highways; background on the system is published by Indian Highways Management Company. Toll deductions appear on your bill exactly as charged. The same applies to interstate permits, city entry fees, parking at monuments, hotels and airports, and ferry or ghat charges on specific routes. The driver's night allowance of Rs 1,500 a night covers his stay, so you do not have to find him a room, although many hotels in hill stations provide driver dormitories at no charge.
Interstate permits: what each border can add to your trip
Outstation taxis travel on tourist permits. Under the All India Tourist Vehicles (Permit) Rules, 2023, the permit fee is paid centrally and shared among the states, and the Ministry of Road Transport has asked states not to levy extra taxes on such vehicles. Some states still collect at their borders, and the rules have shifted several times: in 2025, for example, The Tribune reported that the Centre had the online system for Himachal's entry tax on all-India permit vehicles switched off. Here is what to expect on common journeys:
| Journey | Borders crossed | What may be collected besides tolls |
|---|---|---|
| Delhi to Agra | Delhi into Uttar Pradesh | Usually nothing beyond Yamuna Expressway tolls and Taj parking |
| Delhi to Jaipur | Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan | Usually tolls only on NH 48 |
| Delhi or Chandigarh to Shimla and Manali | Into Himachal Pradesh | Entry tax at Himachal barriers where levied; parking and green fees in Manali |
| Delhi to Dehradun, Mussoorie or Rishikesh | Uttar Pradesh, then Uttarakhand | Uttarakhand's announced green cess on outside vehicles, via FASTag |
| Mumbai to Goa | Maharashtra into Goa | Tolls; border checks |
| Bangalore to Ooty | Karnataka into Tamil Nadu | Tolls; forest checkposts in Bandipur and Mudumalai |
| Hyderabad to Vijayawada | Telangana into Andhra Pradesh | Tolls on NH 65 |
Whatever is actually collected is shown on your bill at the amount paid, with receipts. We do not add estimates, and we do not bill charges that are not lawfully due under the car's permit.
One more border-related rule on the Ooty and Wayanad side: traffic through the Bandipur tiger reserve is restricted at night, so we time Bangalore-Ooty and Mysore-Wayanad drives to clear the forest in daylight.
