A temple journey has its own rhythm. You want to reach before the morning aarti, wait without watching the clock while the family queues for darshan, and travel back with elders who are tired but content. A pilgrimage taxi from RutzIndia.com is built for exactly that: a patient chauffeur, a clean car, fixed per-km pricing, and itineraries shaped around temple timings rather than traffic alone.
Pilgrimage taxi fares on the most-travelled routes
A pilgrimage taxi with RutzIndia.com costs Rs 36 per km in a sedan and Rs 57.6 per km in an Innova Crysta. One-way fares include Delhi to Vrindavan at Rs 5,940 Pay Now to Reserve, Delhi to Haridwar at Rs 7,920 Pay Now to Reserve, Mumbai to Shirdi at Rs 8,640 Pay Now to Reserve and Jammu to Katra at Rs 3,960 Pay Now to Reserve (minimum fare applies), before 5% GST, tolls and parking.
All fares are built from the route distances and per-km rates on our fares page. A one-way drop is priced on the route kilometres. A round trip is billed on the larger of the actual distance or 250 km for each calendar day, and when you stay overnight the chauffeur's night allowance of Rs 1,500 applies. Tolls, state permits and parking, including temple-town parking, are charged at actual cost.

Popular round-trip yatras and what they cost
Most families travel out and back rather than one way. These are the itineraries we plan most often, with the billing worked out:
Braj darshan in a day (Delhi, Vrindavan, Mathura, Delhi). About 360 km in total. At Rs 36 per km that is Rs 12,960 in a sedan, or Rs 20,520 Pay Now to Reserve in an Innova Crysta. Leave Delhi by 5:30 am on the Yamuna Expressway to reach Vrindavan for the morning darshan, visit the Krishna Janmabhoomi in Mathura after lunch, and return by evening.
Haridwar and Rishikesh over two days. Delhi to Haridwar, the Ganga aarti at Har Ki Pauri at dusk, a night by the river, then Rishikesh and back to Delhi: about 500 km, which matches the two-day minimum of 500 km. Rs 18,000 Pay Now to Reserve in a sedan or Rs 28,500 Pay Now to Reserve in an Innova Crysta, plus one night allowance.
Shirdi from Mumbai over two days. Mumbai to Shirdi and back is about 480 km plus local driving, billed at the 500 km two-day minimum: Rs 18,000 Pay Now to Reserve in a sedan. Adding Shani Shingnapur, roughly 70 km each way from Shirdi, brings the total to about 620 km, or Rs 22,320 Pay Now to Reserve in a sedan and Rs 35,340 Pay Now to Reserve in an Innova Crysta.
Nashik, Trimbakeshwar and Shirdi in three days. Mumbai to Nashik, the Trimbakeshwar jyotirlinga, on to Shirdi and home. Actual driving of around 560 km is below the three-day minimum of 750 km, so it is billed at 750 km: Rs 27,000 Pay Now to Reserve in a sedan or Rs 42,750 Pay Now to Reserve in an Innova Crysta, plus two nights of allowance.
Groups by Tempo Traveller or bus. Larger jathas and satsang groups can book a mini bus on rent for 20 to 35 people. At Rs 78 per km, the one-day Braj circuit for a group of twelve comes to Rs 28,080 Pay Now to Reserve, far less per person than several cars. See tempo traveller on rent for seating layouts.
Five-day Ganga and Braj yatra: day by day
This circuit joins the two great pilgrim regions within reach of Delhi, Haridwar and Rishikesh on the Ganga and Vrindavan and Mathura in Braj, without doubling back through the capital.

Fares are before 5% GST. Tolls, the Uttarakhand entry fee for vehicles registered in other states, temple-town parking and any state permits are added at actual cost. Darshan passes, puja offerings and donations are paid by you directly at each temple.
Braj: Vrindavan, Mathura, Govardhan and Barsana
The Delhi to Vrindavan taxi is one of our busiest pilgrim routes. The Yamuna Expressway makes the drive quick; the challenge is inside Vrindavan, where the lanes around Banke Bihari, the Radha Vallabh temple and Nidhivan are narrow and crowded. Cars park at designated lots, and the last stretch is on foot or by e-rickshaw. Your chauffeur knows the nearest parking for each temple and waits there.
The Delhi to Mathura taxi covers the Krishna Janmasthan and the Dwarkadhish temple, with Gokul, Govardhan (for the parikrama) and Barsana all within easy reach. The district administration's Mathura site lists places of worship and festival notices.
Braj is at its most intense at Janmashtami (August or September) and during Holi, which in Barsana and Nandgaon starts days before the rest of India with the famous Lathmar Holi. Expect heavy crowds, closed roads and parking far from the temples. Book early and plan to walk.

Haridwar and Rishikesh: the Ganga journey
The Delhi to Haridwar taxi runs about 220 km through Meerut, Muzaffarnagar and Roorkee. Har Ki Pauri's evening Ganga aarti is the high point; arrive an hour early to find a place on the ghats. Rishikesh is a further 25 km up the river, and the Delhi to Rishikesh taxi is priced separately if it is your main stop. Lakshman Jhula, Ram Jhula and the Triveni Ghat aarti are the usual visits.
During the Kanwar Yatra in the month of Shravan (July to August), hundreds of thousands of devotees walk the Delhi-Haridwar highway carrying Ganga water, and traffic is diverted or restricted on large sections. We plan around the official diversions or suggest other dates. The Haridwar district portal at haridwar.nic.in publishes local notices and festival arrangements.
Haridwar is also the gateway to the Char Dham. For Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath, see our dedicated Char Dham yatra by car page, and for groups starting in Haridwar, the Tempo Traveller in Haridwar.
Shirdi, Shani Shingnapur and the Maharashtra jyotirlingas
Shirdi draws devotees of Sai Baba from across the world. The Mumbai to Shirdi taxi takes about five hours by the Samruddhi Mahamarg or the Nashik road, and the Pune to Shirdi taxi about four and a half hours via Ahmednagar.
Darshan at the Samadhi Mandir can take anything from an hour to most of the day, depending on the season and whether you hold a paid darshan pass. Passes, aarti timings and accommodation are handled by the Shri Saibaba Sansthan Trust at sai.org.in. Guru Purnima, Ram Navami and Vijayadashami bring the biggest crowds.
Many families combine Shirdi with Shani Shingnapur, and with the jyotirlinga at Trimbakeshwar near Nashik; the Mumbai to Nashik taxi covers that leg. Grishneshwar near Ellora and Bhimashankar in the Sahyadris can be added on a longer circuit.
Three days in Maharashtra: Nashik, Trimbakeshwar, Shirdi and Shani Shingnapur
| Day | Route | Km driven (about) | Night at |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Mumbai to Nashik; Panchavati, Kalaram temple and Ramkund | 175 km | Nashik |
| 2 | Trimbakeshwar jyotirlinga early morning, then on to Shirdi for the evening aarti | 125 km | Shirdi |
| 3 | Shirdi Samadhi Mandir and Dwarkamai, return to Mumbai | 260 km | - |
| Total | about 560 km, billed 750 km | 2 nights |
At the three-day minimum of 750 km this costs Rs 27,000 Pay Now to Reserve in a sedan, Rs 31,500 Pay Now to Reserve in an Ertiga, Rs 42,750 Pay Now to Reserve in an Innova Crysta or Rs 58,500 Pay Now to Reserve in a Tempo Traveller, plus two nights of driver allowance, expressway tolls and 5% GST. Because the actual driving is well under the minimum, adding Shani Shingnapur on day 3 (roughly 140 km extra) still fits inside the billed 750 km at no extra car charge. Starting from Pune instead, the Pune to Shirdi taxi route is shorter and the same circuit fits more easily.
Vaishno Devi, the Golden Temple and Kashi
- Mata Vaishno Devi: the Jammu to Katra taxi is Rs 3,960 Pay Now to Reserve in a sedan, the minimum fare. From Katra the yatra continues on foot, by pony or palki, or by the helicopter service to Sanjichhat. Registration is compulsory before the climb. Navratri in spring and autumn is the peak. Pilgrims continuing to Srinagar can see our Kashmir taxi service.
- Sri Harmandir Sahib, Amritsar: from Delhi the drive is about 450 km, and our taxi service in Amritsar covers the Golden Temple, Tarn Taran and the Kartarpur corridor at Dera Baba Nanak.
- Varanasi: the ghats, Kashi Vishwanath, Sarnath and the evening Ganga aarti at Dashashwamedh. Our taxi service in Varanasi and the Tempo Traveller in Varanasi cover local darshan and trips to Prayagraj and Vindhyachal. Dev Deepawali in November is spectacular and very crowded.
Kashi, Prayagraj and Ayodhya: the eastern circuit
In Uttar Pradesh, three of Hinduism's holiest cities sit within a day's drive of each other. Starting from Varanasi, the classic four-day loop runs:
- Varanasi: Kashi Vishwanath through the corridor from the ghats, the evening Ganga aarti at Dashashwamedh, and Sarnath, about 40 km of local driving.
- Varanasi to Prayagraj (about 125 km): the Triveni Sangam, where the Ganga and Yamuna meet, by boat from the ghats; the Hanuman temple near the Sangam.
- Prayagraj to Ayodhya (about 170 km): the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi temple, Hanuman Garhi and the ghats on the Saryu. Darshan timings and entry rules are published by the Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Teerth Kshetra trust.
- Ayodhya back to Varanasi (about 200 km), or on to Lucknow for a flight home.
The loop drives roughly 535 km and is billed at the four-day minimum of 1,000 km: Rs 36,000 Pay Now to Reserve in a sedan or Rs 57,000 Pay Now to Reserve in an Innova Crysta, plus three nights of allowance. Pickups start from our taxi service in Varanasi, and a trip that ends in Lucknow can use our taxi service in Lucknow for the airport drop. During the Kumbh and Magh Mela at Prayagraj, vehicle access near the Sangam is tightly controlled and we plan parking and walking in advance.
Ujjain and Omkareshwar from Indore
Two of the twelve jyotirlingas lie close to Indore. Mahakaleshwar in Ujjain, about 55 km away, is famous for its pre-dawn Bhasma Aarti, which needs advance booking with the temple; dress rules apply for those attending, so check them when you book. The Mahakal Lok corridor around the temple is best seen in the evening, when it is lit up. Omkareshwar, on an island in the Narmada about 80 km south of Indore, is reached across a footbridge from the parking area, with boats on the river as an alternative when water levels allow. A one-day round trip covering both is about 280 km, billed on actual kilometres: Rs 10,080 Pay Now to Reserve in a sedan or Rs 15,960 Pay Now to Reserve in an Innova Crysta. Our taxi service in Indore handles the airport and station pickups.
South Indian temple journeys
- Tirupati and Tirumala: about 135 km from Chennai. The car takes you to Tirupati or up the ghat road to Tirumala, where darshan tickets, accommodation and dress rules are managed by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams. Book darshan slots well ahead; the car waits for the whole visit. Pickups start with our taxi service in Chennai.
- Kanchipuram and Mahabalipuram: the temple and shore-temple day from Chennai, covered on our Chennai pages.
- Sabarimala: pilgrims flying into Kochi travel to Pamba by car or Tempo Traveller in the Mandala season; see the Kerala tour by car page for how Kerala trips are billed.
Char Dham and the Himalayan shrines
For Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath, the season usually opens around late April or May and closes around Diwali. Pilgrims must register with the Uttarakhand government before travelling, and the roads are long mountain drives, so these trips are planned separately on our Char Dham yatra by car page. Most yatras start from Haridwar, Rishikesh or Dehradun; the Delhi to Dehradun taxi is the usual first leg. Temple opening dates are announced each year by the Badrinath-Kedarnath temple committee.
The pilgrim calendar: when roads and temples are busiest
| Festival or season | Usual timing | Where it matters most |
|---|---|---|
| Makar Sankranti and Magh Mela | January | Prayagraj Sangam, Haridwar |
| Maha Shivratri | February or March | Trimbakeshwar, Kashi Vishwanath, Omkareshwar, Mahakaleshwar |
| Holi and Lathmar Holi | March | Barsana, Nandgaon, Vrindavan, Mathura |
| Ram Navami | March or April | Ayodhya, Shirdi |
| Char Dham opening | late April or May | Uttarakhand hill roads |
| Kanwar Yatra | July to August (Shravan) | Delhi-Haridwar highway |
| Janmashtami | August or September | Mathura, Vrindavan, ISKCON temples |
| Navratri | March-April and September-October | Katra and Vaishno Devi |
| Dev Deepawali and Kartik Purnima | November | Varanasi ghats |
| Mandala season | mid-November to mid-January | Sabarimala via Kochi |
Dates follow the Hindu lunar calendar and shift each year, so check them when planning. On these days expect closed roads, long walks from parking to temples and higher demand for larger vehicles; book a week or more ahead.
Travelling with elders: how we make it easier
Pilgrimages often mean grandparents in the back seat. Our chauffeurs are briefed for that:
- The right car. An Innova Crysta has a higher seat that is easier to get into than a low sedan, and the middle row has space to stretch; see Innova Crysta on rent for day rates.
- Unhurried waiting. Darshan queues are unpredictable. On a day package the chauffeur waits for as long as the itinerary needs; he does not rush you back.
- Closest drop points. Where temple rules allow, the car drops elders at the nearest permitted gate before parking, and collects them there.
- Regular breaks. Stops for tea, toilets and meals every two to three hours on the highway, at clean dhabas or highway plazas.
- Early starts, early finishes. Long drives are planned to end before dark, especially in winter fog on North Indian highways.
What to carry and how temple towns work
A few habits make any pilgrim day smoother. Most large temples do not allow mobile phones, leather items or bags inside, and locker queues can be long, so leave what you can in the car; the chauffeur keeps it locked while he waits. Carry a small cloth bag for prasad, a scarf or cap where heads must be covered, and socks for hot marble floors in summer. Keep cash in small notes for shoe stands, flower sellers and donations, as card machines are rare in older temple towns.
Vehicle rules differ from place to place. Vrindavan, Haridwar's Har Ki Pauri area and the approach to Kashi Vishwanath all have zones closed to cars, and parking attendants direct you to fixed lots. On festival days police set up further barricades. Your chauffeur follows the local instructions, and the parking fee is added to the bill at actual cost with the receipt kept for you.
Booking, payment and cancellation
Send your route, dates and number of travellers through the online booker, or WhatsApp the desk, and we will confirm the car, the billed kilometres, the night allowance and expected tolls before you pay. Payment is by card or UPI; trusts, temple committees and companies can have a GST invoice. Every vehicle is within four model years and carries commercial permits for the states on the route.
Cancellation is free more than 72 hours before pickup. Within 72 hours we keep 10% of the fare, within 48 hours 50%, and within 24 hours or for a no-show the full fare. If a festival closure or official traffic restriction prevents the trip, we reschedule it. The full cancellation policy has the details.
