What a Delhi to Rishikesh taxi costs in 2026
Book a Delhi to Rishikesh taxi on RutzIndia.com for Rs 8,640 Pay Now to Reserve one way in a Dzire-class sedan or Rs 13,680 Pay Now to Reserve in an Innova Crysta, covering about 240 km. A three-day round trip starts at Rs 27,000 Pay Now to Reserve in a sedan (750 km minimum). Add 5% GST; tolls, Uttarakhand entry fee and parking are billed at actual.
Rishikesh pulls a very particular crowd out of Delhi. Some are yoga students heading for a 200-hour course in Tapovan, some are office groups booked into a riverside rafting camp at Shivpuri, and many are families who want the Triveni Ghat aarti and a quiet morning at Parmarth Niketan. The drive is the same for all of them, but the drop point, the luggage and the ideal departure time are not. That is why our chauffeurs ask where exactly you are staying before they set off.
Unlike a shared cab or a bus to the ISBT, a private Delhi to Rishikesh one way taxi goes where you are going: the lane behind your ashram, the gate of your camp on the Badrinath road, or the hotel on the Tapovan ridge. You travel on your own schedule, stop when the children need to, and step out with your bags beside you.

Rishikesh cab fares: one way, weekend and yoga-course packages
We charge by the kilometre, with a daily minimum on round trips. Here is how the numbers work for this corridor.
| Car class | Seats | One way, about 240 km | Same-day return, 480 km | 2 days, min 500 km | 3 days, min 750 km |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dzire / Amaze sedan | 4 | Rs 8,640 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 17,280 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 18,000 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 27,000 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Ertiga / Carens MUV | 6 | Rs 10,080 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 20,160 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 21,000 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 31,500 Pay Now to Reserve |
| City / Verna premium sedan | 4 | Rs 11,520 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 23,040 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 24,000 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 36,000 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Innova Crysta / Hycross | 6 | Rs 13,680 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 27,360 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 28,500 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 42,750 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Tempo Traveller | 16 | Rs 18,720 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 37,440 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 39,000 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 58,500 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Force Urbania | 17 | Rs 24,480 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 48,960 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 51,000 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 76,500 Pay Now to Reserve |
Those figures are base fares before 5% GST. Toll plazas on the highway, the entry fee Uttarakhand charges on commercial vehicles registered outside the state, and parking at ghats or camp car parks are added exactly as paid. When the car stays with you overnight, the chauffeur's night allowance of Rs 1,500 applies per night.
Two examples. A couple going for a long weekend at a Tapovan retreat in a sedan, with a sightseeing loop to Neelkanth Mahadev, will likely drive around 560 km across three days, which falls below the 750 km minimum, so they pay Rs 27,000 plus two nights' allowance and extras. A company sending fourteen people to a Shivpuri camp for one night in a Tempo Traveller pays Rs 39,000 Pay Now to Reserve for the two-day minimum, plus one night allowance and tolls, and gets a GST invoice in the company's name.
Once you are there, you can also keep a car for local runs. A Rishikesh local day of 8 hours and 80 km costs Rs 6,980 Pay Now to Reserve in a sedan and Rs 12,220 Pay Now to Reserve in an Innova; our Rishikesh taxi service page covers local hire, rafting shuttles and Jolly Grant airport transfers.

Route breakdown: kilometres, hours and toll points
A Delhi to Rishikesh taxi covers about 240 km. Here is how that distance divides up on the standard alignment through Meerut, Roorkee and Haridwar.
| Leg | Roughly km | Time if you leave by 6 am | What to expect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Delhi to the end of the Meerut expressway | 80-85 | about 1 hr 15 min | wide expressway; one toll plaza; the city exit is the variable |
| Meerut to Muzaffarnagar and Roorkee | about 105 | about 1 hr 45 min | four-lane highway with service roads; the main breakfast halts; toll plaza(s) |
| Roorkee to the Haridwar bypass | about 30 | 35-45 min | state border and entry fee for outside taxis; cane trolleys in season |
| Haridwar to Raiwala and Rishikesh | about 25 | 35-50 min | forest-edge road along Rajaji; slow on weekend evenings |
| Total | about 240 | about 5.5 hrs | two to three plazas and the Uttarakhand entry fee, billed at actual |
The final leg is the one people underestimate. Between Haridwar and Rishikesh the road narrows through Raiwala and the Rajaji forest fringe, and on Sunday afternoons both directions fill with weekenders, pilgrims and camp traffic. If you are timing a course check-in or a rafting slot, treat the last 25 km as a 45-minute job, not a 20-minute one.

Two ways up: via Haridwar or via the Doon side
The standard alignment takes the Delhi–Meerut Expressway, the highway through Muzaffarnagar and Roorkee, then passes Haridwar and follows the Ganga north through Raiwala for the last 25 km. It is the most predictable route and the one we default to. Budget about five and a half hours door to door if you leave Delhi before 6 am.
The alternative bears left before Haridwar towards Dehradun and enters Rishikesh past Jolly Grant airport and Doiwala. Drivers choose it when the Haridwar stretch is jammed, typically on festival Sundays, or when a guest wants to be dropped near the airport side of town. As newer expressway sections towards the Doon valley open, chauffeurs will use whichever alignment is faster on your date; one-way fares stay on the quoted distance either way.
Tolls are collected via FASTag on two or three plazas. There is no separate hill section on this route: Rishikesh sits at the foot of the Himalaya, so the last climb is gentle. The real mountain driving begins beyond it, on the roads to Devprayag, Neelkanth and the Char Dham.
Getting to Rishikesh: train, bus, self-drive or chauffeur
| Option | How it actually works | Time from central Delhi | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Train | few trains terminate at Yog Nagari Rishikesh; most rail travellers ride to Haridwar and take a road transfer for the last 25 km | 5 to 6.5 hrs including the transfer | solo travellers on weekdays with light bags |
| Government or private bus | Uttarakhand Transport and private coaches from Kashmere Gate ISBT to Rishikesh bus stand; overnight Volvos are popular with backpackers | 6 to 7 hrs | budget travel, overnight journeys |
| Self-drive | you handle the Meerut crossing, Haridwar traffic and parking; many ashram lanes and footbridges are closed to cars | about 5.5 hrs plus parking | confident drivers staying on the town side |
| RutzIndia.com chauffeur cab | pickup at your door, drop at the nearest road head to your ashram, school or camp | about 5.5 hrs door to door | families, groups, yoga students with kit, anyone on a fixed check-in |
The rail option is genuinely good if you are one person with a rucksack and can catch a morning train to Haridwar; check the day's schedule on the Indian Railways enquiry site and budget time for the auto or shared jeep onward. Buses leave Kashmere Gate through the day and night; Uttarakhand's state corporation lists its services on the UTC website. Both leave you at the town bus stand, from where Tapovan or Shivpuri is another ride.
A shared cab is where the maths turns. Three students going to the same Tapovan school pay Rs 2,880 each on the sedan base fare. Twelve colleagues heading to a Shivpuri camp in a Tempo Traveller pay Rs 1,560 each. Add GST, tolls and parking and it is still competitive with a bus plus two autorickshaws, and the door-to-door time is hours shorter.

Fare per head by group size
| Group | Suggested vehicle | One-way base fare | Per person, before GST and tolls |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 traveller with a large bag | compact sedan | Rs 8,640 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 8,640 Pay Now to Reserve |
| 2 friends, yoga mats and a guitar | compact sedan | Rs 8,640 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 4,320 Pay Now to Reserve |
| 3 yoga students, three suitcases | compact sedan | Rs 8,640 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 2,880 Pay Now to Reserve |
| family of 5 with grandparents | Innova Crysta | Rs 13,680 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 2,740 Pay Now to Reserve |
| 6 friends for a rafting weekend | Ertiga | Rs 10,080 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 1,680 Pay Now to Reserve |
| 12 colleagues for a camp offsite | Tempo Traveller | Rs 18,720 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 1,560 Pay Now to Reserve |
| 16 retreat participants with luggage | Force Urbania | Rs 24,480 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 1,530 Pay Now to Reserve |
Where to get dropped in Rishikesh
Rishikesh is spread along both banks of the Ganga and several of its best-known lanes are pedestrian only. Knowing the landmark closest to your stay saves a long walk with luggage.
- Tapovan and the Laxman Jhula area: the yoga-school and cafe district on the east side of the town. Cars reach the main road; some schools sit up steep lanes, so pack a backpack or accept a short walk.
- Ram Jhula, Swarg Ashram and Parmarth Niketan: the ashram belt across the river is largely car-free. We drop at the nearest road head and the chauffeur helps you to the bridge.
- Triveni Ghat and the market: on the town side, close to the bus stand and the evening aarti.
- Shivpuri, Byasi and Kaudiyala: rafting camps strung along the Badrinath highway 15 to 40 km upstream. The camp usually meets you at a roadside gate.
- Jolly Grant and Doiwala: about 20 km south, for guests catching a flight or staying near the airport.
The Rishikesh region falls within Dehradun district; road advisories and festival arrangements are posted by the Dehradun district administration.
Where Delhi travellers usually start from
| Pickup | Who typically books it | What to tell us |
|---|---|---|
| IGI Terminal 3, international arrivals | foreign yoga students and NRIs; flight tracked, 60 min free wait | flight number and whether you want a night halt in Aerocity |
| IGI Terminal 1 and domestic arrivals at T3 | travellers connecting from Bengaluru, Mumbai or Kolkata; 30 min free wait | flight number; we move the pickup if it lands late |
| Paharganj and New Delhi railway station | backpackers and train arrivals | the lane or station gate you are closest to |
| Majnu ka Tilla and North Campus | students and Tibetan-colony guesthouse guests | exact building; lanes are narrow, so we may meet at the main road |
| Hauz Khas, Saket, Vasant Vihar | families and working professionals | building gate and parking access |
| Gurgaon and Noida offices | corporate retreat groups | number of guests, luggage, GST billing details |
| Ghaziabad and Indirapuram | families on the east side | society gate; this is the quickest start for the expressway |
Foreign guests: hotels, ashrams and camps register foreign nationals with the authorities on arrival, so keep your passport and visa handy when the chauffeur drops you; the reception will ask for them. If you land after 10 pm, the chauffeur can still drive through, but we usually recommend the Aerocity night halt so you arrive in daylight and see where you are staying.
When to go: rafting season, yoga festival and monsoon
Rishikesh changes character by the month, and the right car and departure time change with it.
March: the International Yoga Festival brings teachers and students from across the world, and the ashram belt is busiest. Book arrival transfers early. April to June: river rafting is in full swing, weekends out of Delhi are heavy, and the plains are hot; leave by 5 am to arrive before the heat peaks. The Char Dham shrines open around late April and May, which fills Rishikesh with yatra traffic heading north.
July to mid-September: the monsoon swells the Ganga, rafting is normally suspended, and landslides can close hill roads beyond Rishikesh. The Delhi to Rishikesh stretch itself stays open, but the Kanwar Yatra fortnight in Shravan diverts traffic through Haridwar; plan around it. October and November: clear skies, rafting resumes and Diwali weekends are popular. December to February: cold mornings and fog on the plains can slow departures before 8 am; chauffeurs drive the Roorkee stretch conservatively.
Official event calendars and shrine opening dates are posted on Uttarakhand Tourism.
Month-by-month planner for the Rishikesh drive
| Months | Weather in Rishikesh | River and activities | Road notes for the drive |
|---|---|---|---|
| January-February | cold mornings, mild afternoons | rafting open, water very cold | fog on the plains before 9 am slows the Meerut stretch |
| March | pleasant | International Yoga Festival, rafting | busy ashram belt; book arrival transfers early |
| April-June | hot in the day | peak rafting and camping | Friday exits from Delhi are slow; Char Dham traffic from late April |
| July-August | heavy monsoon rain | rafting normally suspended | Kanwar Yatra diversions; landslides possible beyond Rishikesh |
| September | tapering rain, green hills | rafting usually resumes towards the end of the month | watch for late-monsoon closures on hill roads |
| October-November | clear skies | good rafting, Diwali weekends | ideal driving weather |
| December | cool and dry | rafting open, quieter town | fog risk returns in the plains |
Rafting stretches and adventure logistics
Rafting on the Ganga above Rishikesh is sold by stretch, each named after its put-in point. The short Brahmpuri run is roughly 9 km, the popular Shivpuri stretch about 16 km, Marine Drive about 24 km and Kaudiyala around 36 km, all finishing near Rishikesh. Your operator drives you to the put-in; our chauffeur's job is to get you to the operator's office or camp on time. Operators must be licensed by the state and set their own age and health rules, so check those before you book.
A few practical habits help. Keep a towel and a change of clothes in a dry bag in the car so you are not sitting wet for the drive back. Leave valuables with the chauffeur or at the camp rather than on the raft. If you plan a bungee or giant swing session on the Neelkanth side as well, schedule it on a different half-day from rafting; both depend on fixed slots that rarely line up neatly.
Exactly what the fare pays for
The base fare buys the vehicle class you chose, its fuel, and a chauffeur for the kilometres in your quote. On a round trip the car stays with you through the day, so waiting outside an ashram, a cafe or a temple is part of the package. Separately, and only at the amount on the receipt, you pay 5% GST, highway tolls, the Uttarakhand entry fee charged on taxis registered in other states, and parking. Overnight bookings add the chauffeur's night allowance, from Rs 1,500 depending on the car, which covers his stay and meals. Nothing else is added without your say-so, and corporates get a GST invoice listing each item.
Pickup across Delhi NCR and from the airport
We pick up anywhere in the capital region at the per-km fare: Connaught Place and Janpath hotels, Hauz Khas and Saket, Vasant Kunj, Dwarka, Karol Bagh, Paharganj backpacker lanes, Rohini, East Delhi, Ghaziabad, Noida and Greater Noida, and Gurgaon. Many foreign yoga students land at IGI Terminal 3 in the evening and want to reach Rishikesh by night; we can do that, with the flight tracked, a name board at arrivals, and 60 minutes of free waiting after an international landing (30 minutes after a domestic one). Further waiting is charged at the hourly rate. If your flight lands very late, consider a night in Aerocity and a 6 am start instead.
If you are travelling with a large bag of yoga props or a guitar, tell us when booking so we assign a car with the right boot. For a group of students from the same course, a tempo traveller is usually cheaper than three sedans.
Beyond Rishikesh: Neelkanth, Mussoorie and the Char Dham
Rishikesh is the doorway to Garhwal. Popular extensions from the same car:
- Neelkanth Mahadev: about 30 km uphill through forest, a half-day return from Tapovan.
- Devprayag: the confluence of the Bhagirathi and Alaknanda, around 70 km up the Badrinath road.
- Dehradun and Mussoorie: roughly 45 km and 80 km respectively. For a direct run, see our Delhi to Mussoorie taxi fares.
- Haridwar: 25 km down the river for Har Ki Pauri; the Delhi to Haridwar taxi page covers that as a standalone trip.
- Char Dham: Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath, planned as a 10 to 12 day yatra. Commercial vehicles going into the Char Dham circuit need state registration formalities before departure, which our team handles. See Char Dham Yatra by car.
Mountain roads north of Rishikesh follow their own etiquette, and our chauffeurs keep to it. Vehicles climbing uphill get the right of way on narrow bends, horns are used before blind corners, and long stretches are not driven after dark when landslide debris is hard to see. In the monsoon a driver may hold the car at a safe town rather than push through a road that authorities have flagged. That sometimes costs you an hour; it never costs you a risk. If a planned day is lost to a road closure, the travel desk reworks the itinerary with you on the phone or WhatsApp, the same day.
Group pilgrims starting from Dehradun rather than Delhi can use our Dehradun tempo traveller service. For other north-India routes, the routes hub lists every corridor we price.
Rishikesh sightseeing add-ons with the same car
Keep the car for local days and Rishikesh's surroundings open up. A local package of 8 hours and 80 km in Rishikesh costs Rs 6,980 Pay Now to Reserve in a sedan and Rs 12,220 Pay Now to Reserve in an Innova, which covers most of the list below. If you would rather pay per trip on a round-trip booking, the approximate extra, calculated on the return distance from Ram Jhula, is shown.
| Add-on | One-way distance | Time needed | Approx. extra, sedan / Innova |
|---|---|---|---|
| Neelkanth Mahadev temple, up through the forest | about 30 km | half a day | Rs 2,160 / Rs 3,420 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Kunjapuri Devi temple for sunrise over the Himalaya | about 25 km | leave by 4:30 am, back by 9 | Rs 1,800 / Rs 2,850 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Vashishta Gufa meditation cave on the Badrinath road | about 22 km | 2 to 3 hrs | Rs 1,580 / Rs 2,510 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Shivpuri rafting put-in and camps | about 16 km | depends on your rafting slot | Rs 1,150 / Rs 1,820 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Devprayag, confluence of the Bhagirathi and Alaknanda | about 70 km | a full day | Rs 5,040 / Rs 7,980 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Beatles Ashram (Chaurasi Kutia) | walkable from Swarg Ashram | 1.5 hrs | none |
Neelkanth Mahadev lies in Pauri Garhwal district, whose administration posts temple and road notices on the Pauri district website; the Shravan fortnight brings very heavy Kanwar footfall on that road. Kunjapuri and the Badrinath road above Shivpuri fall under Tehri Garhwal, with notices on the Tehri district website. Mountain stretches are driven only in daylight on our bookings.
Three Rishikesh itineraries, priced
The yoga-course arrival. Book the one-way drop to your school's nearest road head (Rs 8,640 Pay Now to Reserve by sedan) on the day before the course begins, rest, and walk the ghats in the evening. On your last day, book the return from the Rishikesh taxi service page or as a one-way cab back to Delhi.
The rafting weekend for twelve. Friday 5 am departure from Gurgaon in a Tempo Traveller, raft the Shivpuri stretch that afternoon, camp overnight, Neelkanth on Saturday morning and back by Saturday night. Two calendar days with about 560 km driven: 560 x Rs 78 = Rs 43,680 Pay Now to Reserve, plus one night allowance, tolls and GST, or Rs 3,640 per head before extras.
Four days: Rishikesh, Devprayag and Mussoorie. Day one Delhi to Rishikesh and the Triveni Ghat aarti. Day two Kunjapuri at sunrise and Devprayag. Day three to Mussoorie via Dehradun. Day four home. About 850 km, below the 1,000 km four-day minimum, so Rs 36,000 Pay Now to Reserve by sedan or Rs 57,000 Pay Now to Reserve by Innova, plus three nights' allowance.
Ashram, camp and town etiquette worth knowing
Rishikesh is a holy town where the sale of meat and alcohol is not permitted, and most ashrams keep quiet hours in the early morning and late evening. Dress modestly at the ghats and temples. Riverside camps at Shivpuri often sit below the highway, reached by a short footpath or a camp jeep, so pack in soft bags you can carry; the chauffeur will help as far as the path allows. Swimming in the Ganga away from supervised rafting is dangerous because of strong currents, even where the water looks calm.
Travelling with children, elders or a long course's luggage
Five and a half hours is a long sit for small children and grandparents. Plan two breaks: breakfast around Khatauli and a short stretch at Roorkee or on the Haridwar bypass. Bring your own child seat if your little one needs one, and tell us so the chauffeur leaves room to fit it. For elders, the middle-row captain seats of an Innova Crysta are the easiest to get in and out of, and the higher seating reduces the jolt of speed-breakers through the towns.
Students arriving for a month-long teacher training often carry far more than a weekend visitor: two large suitcases, a mat bag, sometimes a harmonium or a guitar. A sedan manages two big cases and soft bags; three students with full luggage are happier in an Ertiga. Mention instruments when you book, and pack anything fragile in the cabin rather than the boot. At the end of a long course, the return journey is often booked as a group of classmates heading to the airport together; a Tempo Traveller from Tapovan to IGI Terminal 3, timed against the earliest flight in the group, is usually the calmest way to finish the month. Share the flight times with our desk a few days ahead and we will suggest a single departure time that works for everyone.
