Rishikesh is where the Ganga leaves the mountains, and almost every journey here is either arriving from the plains or heading up into them. Whether you are landing at Jolly Grant for a yoga course in Tapovan, joining a rafting camp at Shivpuri or setting off for Kedarnath and Badrinath, a pre-booked taxi service in Rishikesh saves you from bargaining at the stand beside the bus station. With RutzIndia.com a sedan airport transfer costs Rs 3,840 Pay Now to Reserve, a full local day Rs 6,990 Pay Now to Reserve, and outstation runs are billed at Rs 36 a kilometre in a sedan or Rs 57.6 in an Innova Crysta, with the driver, fuel and package distance included.
Rishikesh cab rates for 2026
A Rishikesh taxi with driver costs about Rs 3,840 Pay Now to Reserve for a sedan transfer to or from Dehradun's Jolly Grant airport, Rs 4,200 Pay Now to Reserve for 4 hr/40 km and Rs 6,990 Pay Now to Reserve for 8 hr/80 km. A one-way sedan to Delhi is about Rs 8,640 Pay Now to Reserve and an Innova Rs 13,680 Pay Now to Reserve. Prices are before 5% GST; tolls and parking are extra.
| Car | Jolly Grant airport | 4 hr / 40 km | 8 hr / 80 km | Outstation per km |

| Tempo Traveller | Rs 10,410 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 11,340 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 18,900 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 78 |
Local and airport fares in Rishikesh are set slightly below the Delhi baseline; outstation distance uses the standard per-km rate for each class. Add 5% GST. Tolls, Uttarakhand entry and green fees, interstate permits, parking at ghats and camps and any Char Dham trip-card charges are billed at actual cost. A driver's night allowance of Rs 1,500 applies to every night away on a multi-day tour, and outstation round trips carry a minimum of 250 km for each calendar day. The complete rate card is on our fares page.
What typical Rishikesh trips cost
- Neelkanth Mahadev temple, about 32 km each way on a winding forest road: fits a 4 hr/40 km package only if you are quick, so most pilgrims take the 8 hr day at Rs 6,990 Pay Now to Reserve in a sedan.
- Haridwar evening aarti and back: around 50-60 km in total, well within the 8 hr/80 km day.
- One-way to Mussoorie, about 75 km: the minimum fare applies, Rs 3,840 Pay Now to Reserve in a sedan or Rs 6,720 Pay Now to Reserve in an Innova.
- Delhi one way, 240 km: Rs 8,640 Pay Now to Reserve sedan, Rs 13,680 Pay Now to Reserve Innova, plus tolls.
- Ten-day Char Dham loop in an Innova Crysta: ten days x 250 km = 2,500 km minimum x Rs 57.6 = Rs 1,42,500 Pay Now to Reserve, plus nine night allowances, tolls and parking.

Per-km taxi rates from Rishikesh
Fares updated September 2026. Once you leave the Rishikesh-Haridwar area, every kilometre is charged at the class rate below. The comparison columns price the two trips that most people plan from here: the drive back to Delhi (240 km) and a one-way run up the Alaknanda valley to Badrinath (about 295 km), plus the 2,500 km minimum that applies to a ten-day Char Dham yatra.
| Vehicle class | Per km | Delhi one way, 240 km | Badrinath one way, 295 km | Ten-day yatra minimum, 2,500 km |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dzire or Amaze sedan | Rs 36 | Rs 8,640 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 10,620 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 90,000 Pay Now to Reserve |

| Force Urbania | Rs 102 | Rs 24,480 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 30,090 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 2,55,000 Pay Now to Reserve |
Luxury sedans and SUVs are available for the Delhi and Dehradun runs but are not offered on the high Char Dham roads, where ground clearance and local servicing matter more than badges. A ten-day yatra also adds nine night allowances (Rs 1,500 each), tolls, permits and 5% GST.
Rishikesh local packages: 4, 8 and 12 hours
Within Rishikesh and out to Haridwar, Neelkanth or the rafting stretch, hourly packages are the simpler buy. A 12 hr/120 km day is calculated as the 8-hour fare times 1.5 plus 40 km at the class rate; it is popular with pilgrims who want Haridwar's morning snan and the Rishikesh evening aarti on the same day.
| Car | 12 hr / 120 km | 8 hr / 80 km | 4 hr / 40 km | Per extra km |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dzire sedan | Rs 11,910 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 6,990 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 4,200 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 36 |
| Ertiga MUV | Rs 14,760 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 8,730 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 5,250 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 42 |

| Fortuner | Rs 36,090 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 21,840 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 13,080 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 84 |
| Tempo Traveller | Rs 31,500 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 18,900 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 11,340 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 78 |
| Force Urbania | Rs 43,380 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 26,190 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 15,720 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 102 |
Extra hours are listed in the booker before you pay. The general rules for local packages, including when the clock starts, are on local car rental 8 hr / 80 km.

Jolly Grant airport to Rishikesh
Dehradun's Jolly Grant airport (DED) is actually closer to Rishikesh than to Dehradun: about 20 km, typically 35-45 minutes through Bhaniyawala and the Rajaji forest edge. Tapovan, Laxman Jhula, Swarg Ashram and the Muni-ki-Reti ashrams all fall within our airport fare, and so do Shivpuri camps on the Badrinath road.
Your driver tracks the flight, waits at arrivals with a name board and gives you 30 minutes of free waiting after a domestic landing (60 minutes after an international arrival, if you connect through Delhi on a single ticket). After that, waiting is billed hourly. Flying into Delhi instead? The Delhi to Rishikesh taxi page covers the drive from IGI, and with the new Delhi-Dehradun expressway the plains stretch is quicker than it used to be.
Getting around Rishikesh: ashrams, ghats and parking
Rishikesh is a town of two banks joined by footbridges, and cars cannot cross at Ram Jhula. Laxman Jhula, the old suspension bridge, has been closed for years, so traffic between the banks goes round by road bridges further upstream or downstream. In practice:
- Tapovan and Laxman Jhula side: cafés, yoga schools and guesthouses on steep lanes. Parking is tight in the evening; the driver drops you at the nearest point and waits in a paid lot.
- Swarg Ashram and Parmarth Niketan: on the far bank, reached on foot over Ram Jhula or by road via the Neelkanth approach. The Parmarth evening aarti draws large crowds; we suggest arriving 45 minutes early.
- Triveni Ghat: in the main town near the bus stand, the busiest aarti location for pilgrims arriving by car.
- Muni-ki-Reti and the Beatles Ashram: a short walk apart, with limited kerbside parking.
The International Yoga Festival in March, long weekends and the rafting season (roughly September to June, paused in the monsoon) bring the heaviest traffic. During the Kanwar Yatra in the monsoon month of Shravan, the Haridwar-Rishikesh corridor sees major diversions and some roads close to cars altogether; we plan routes around the police advisories and may suggest shifting dates.

Rafting, camping and adventure transfers
Most rafting stretches start upstream at Shivpuri, Marine Drive or Kaudiyala and finish near Rishikesh. A car takes you to the camp with luggage, and the rafting company runs its own vehicles to the put-in point. Book a one-way transfer to the camp and another for the return, or keep an 8 hr package if you want the car to wait. Bungee and giant swing sites at Mohan Chatti are reached by a narrow hill road, so a sedan or Ertiga is easier to manoeuvre than a large SUV.
For groups of 10-17 travelling together, a Tempo Traveller at Rs 18,900 Pay Now to Reserve for a local day is cheaper than three cars. Pilgrim groups starting from Haridwar can also look at Tempo Traveller in Haridwar.
Rishikesh to the Char Dham and the Garhwal hills
Rishikesh is the traditional starting point for the Char Dham Yatra to Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath. The temple portals open around late April or May and close around Diwali, and the months of May and June are the busiest. A few rules shape how we run these trips:
- Pilgrim registration is mandatory for the Char Dham; every traveller registers on the Uttarakhand government's registration and tourist care portal before departure.
- Commercial vehicles on the yatra routes carry the permits and trip documents required by the state transport department; we arrange these for our cars and add any fee at actual cost.
- No night driving in the mountains. Drivers stop by early evening, which is also when local police often restrict movement on the highways.
- Monsoon landslides in July and August can close the Badrinath and Kedarnath roads for hours or days; itineraries include buffer days in that period.
- Helicopter and pony bookings for Kedarnath are separate; the car waits at Sonprayag or Phata.
Temple timings and puja bookings are published by the Shri Badarinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee. Our Char Dham Yatra by car page lays out 9- to 12-day plans, and shorter pilgrimages to Do Dham or Neelkanth sit under pilgrimage taxi. Hill stations such as Mussoorie, Dhanaulti and Tehri Lake make good two-day side trips; see taxi service in Dehradun for that side of the valley.
Pairing Rishikesh with Haridwar and Mussoorie
Many families combine the two holy towns in one weekend: the morning holy dip at Har ki Pauri, lunch at Chotiwala in Rishikesh and the Parmarth aarti at sunset. Keep one car on an 8 hr package for that day rather than booking two transfers. A third day in the hills is easy too: Mussoorie via Dehradun is about 75 km, with Kempty Falls and Landour's bakeries on the way, and larger groups can continue in a Tempo Traveller from Dehradun. If you are starting and ending in the capital, compare the fare with the Delhi to Mussoorie taxi route, which can be booked as a two-day round trip that returns via Rishikesh.
Popular outstation routes from Rishikesh with one-way fares
The table lists one-way fares at the per-km rate. If the car stays with you, the bill is the actual distance or 250 km per calendar day, whichever is higher, plus night allowances. Uttarakhand entry and green fees, tolls, parking and 5% GST are extra.
| Rishikesh to | About km | Sedan one way | Innova one way | Tempo one way | Plan for |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|

| Badrinath | 295 | Rs 10,620 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 16,810 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 23,010 Pay Now to Reserve | Two-day drive advised |
In the hills the distance column tells only half the story. Rishikesh to Badrinath is about 295 km but typically ten to twelve hours of driving, which is why we split it with a night at Srinagar (Garhwal), Rudraprayag or Joshimath. Chandigarh and Shimla connect to our Chandigarh taxi service and Shimla taxi service. For the Kumaon hills from the capital, see Delhi to Nainital taxi, and for how interstate kilometres and permits are billed, outstation cabs.
Day plans for Rishikesh and around

Rafting and cafes (8 hr package). Transfer with luggage to a Shivpuri camp, the rafting run organised by the operator, a riverside lunch, and the car back to your hotel by early evening. Add Kunjapuri temple for sunrise the next day if you are staying on.
Haridwar pairing (8 hr package). Har ki Pauri, Mansa Devi by ropeway, Chandi Devi, lunch at the bazaar and the Ganga aarti at Har ki Pauri. The car waits in the designated lots, which fill quickly on weekends.
Tehri and Kanatal (outstation, one day). Up through Chamba to Tehri Lake for boating and water sports, with a stop at Kanatal on the ridge. Billed at the 250 km day minimum.
Hill driving in Uttarakhand: what to expect
Roads north of Rishikesh follow river gorges, and even the widened all-weather highways have single-lane stretches where traffic waits for trucks and buses. Our drivers are used to reversing to passing points, using the horn on blind bends and giving way to uphill traffic. Expect average speeds of 25-35 km an hour beyond Devprayag. Motion sickness is common for first-timers; ask for mid-morning starts and regular stops, and keep a front seat for anyone who feels unwell.
Winter from December to February brings snow above Joshimath and Harsil but rarely in Rishikesh itself, which stays mild. The Char Dham temples are closed then, but Auli and Chopta make excellent snow trips in an Innova or Fortuner with chains carried on board.
Airport and railway station transfers around Rishikesh
Up to 40 km, a transfer is a flat fare. Beyond that, the total is the transfer fare plus the extra kilometres at the per-km rate; the table shows those totals worked out. Rishikesh has its own terminus, Yog Nagari Rishikesh, a short way from the old station, while many long-distance trains stop at Haridwar Junction and some travellers arrive at Dehradun station.

A month-by-month guide to Rishikesh travel
- January and February: cool, clear days and foggy mornings in the plains. Delhi drives start later to avoid fog on the expressway approaches; rafting runs on the shorter stretches.
- March: the International Yoga Festival fills ashram guest rooms and Tapovan streets; Holi brings crowds from Delhi on the long weekend.
- April to June: peak rafting and camping season, and the Char Dham portals open, so Rishikesh becomes the main staging post for pilgrim cars and buses heading north. Book cars two to three weeks ahead.
- July and August: monsoon. Rafting pauses, landslides affect the Badrinath and Kedarnath highways, and the Kanwar Yatra reshapes traffic between Haridwar and Rishikesh. Keep plans flexible.
- September to November: the river clears, rafting restarts, and the second Char Dham window runs until the temples close around Diwali. This is arguably the best time for the Garhwal hills.
- December: quiet in town, snow higher up at Auli and Chopta, and year-end holiday traffic from the plains. Hotels in Tapovan fill for New Year's Eve, so book the airport car with the room.
Rishikesh falls within Dehradun district, and official advisories on roads, festivals and traffic diversions are posted by the Dehradun district administration. Our desk checks them before every hill departure. If an advisory closes a road on your travel day, we call or message you the evening before with the options: wait a day in Rishikesh, take an alternative route where one exists, or reshuffle the order of the dhams so the closed sector comes last.

Which cab is cheaper in Rishikesh?
For a short hop from Tapovan to the market, a shared or private auto (often called a vikram here) is the cheapest option. For airport runs, a sightseeing day, or any trip with luggage to a camp or ashram, a pre-booked car with a fixed fare is usually better value, because the price is set before you travel and the car waits. Rishikesh also has a strong local taxi stand culture with rates that vary by season; our fares do not change on long weekends or during the International Yoga Festival. Compare how fixed pricing works on cab booking.
Is Ola or Uber available in Rishikesh?
App-based cab availability in Rishikesh is limited compared with a metro and varies by season and time of day; many visitors find it hard to get an app car at the airport at night or up at Tapovan in the early morning. For Char Dham, Chopta, Auli or Delhi runs, and for groups, a pre-booked chauffeur is the practical choice: a confirmed Innova Crysta on rent or Tempo Traveller, a named driver and a GST invoice.
Booking and what is included
- Pick airport, local package or outstation in the online booker and add your hotel or ashram name as the pickup.
- Choose the car; all vehicles are within four model years and air-conditioned.
- Pay by card or UPI. For Char Dham and multi-day plans, WhatsApp the desk for a written quote and GST invoice.
The fare includes the car, fuel, driver wages and the package kilometres. It does not include 5% GST, tolls, permits, parking, green fees, extra hours or kilometres, or the driver's night allowance.
Cancellation: no charge more than 72 hours before pickup, 10% within 72 hours, 50% within 48 hours and 100% within 24 hours or for a no-show. If a landslide closes the road on the day, the desk works with you on a reroute or new date. Full terms: cancellation policy.
Who books Rishikesh taxis with us
Yoga teacher-training students with heavy luggage arriving from Delhi; families on a Haridwar-Rishikesh weekend from Delhi or Chandigarh (Delhi to Haridwar taxi); foreign travellers who want a driver for a week in the Garhwal; and corporate offsite groups at the riverside camps. The state tourism board, Uttarakhand Tourism, is a good source for festival dates and road advisories.
