A good taxi service in Chandigarh has to do two very different jobs. On weekdays it shuttles people across a grid of numbered sectors, between the Mohali airport, the railway station, PGI and the IT Park. On weekends and holidays it turns into a mountain service, climbing the Parwanoo ghat towards Shimla or pushing on to Manali. RutzIndia.com books both with one set of rules: a fixed fare you see before paying, a driver who knows the roads, and a car no older than four model years.
Whether you need a cab service in Chandigarh for a single airport run, a car for a full working day across the Tricity, or an SUV with a hill-experienced driver for a week in Himachal, the fares, inclusions and booking steps are laid out below.
Chandigarh taxi fares for 2026
A Chandigarh airport cab in a Dzire-class sedan costs Rs 3,750 Pay Now to Reserve for up to 40 km, which covers all of Chandigarh, Mohali, Panchkula and Zirakpur. The 8 hour / 80 km package costs Rs 6,840 Pay Now to Reserve in a sedan and Rs 11,970 Pay Now to Reserve in an Innova Crysta. Hill and outstation cabs are Rs 36 per km in a sedan, before 5% GST.
Chandigarh's local fares sit about five per cent under our national base. Per-km outstation rates are the same across India, so a Shimla run costs the same kilometre rate from here as from Delhi, just with far fewer kilometres.
| Car | Half day, 4 hr / 40 km | Full day, 8 hr / 80 km | IXC airport / station transfer | Per km outside the city |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sedan (Dzire, Amaze, Aura) | Rs 4,110 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 6,840 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 3,750 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 36 |
| Ertiga or Carens | Rs 5,130 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 8,550 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 4,710 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 42 |
| Innova Crysta or Hycross | Rs 7,170 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 11,970 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 6,570 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 57.6 |
| Fortuner or Gloster | Rs 12,840 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 21,360 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 11,760 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 84 |
| Tempo Traveller 12-17 seat | Rs 11,100 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 18,540 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 10,200 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 78 |
| Mercedes GLS, BMW X7, Audi Q7 | Rs 32,490 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 54,150 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 29,790 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 230 |
Prices exclude 5% GST. Tolls, Himachal and Punjab entry taxes and parking are passed on at actual cost, with receipts. When you stay overnight in the hills, the driver's night allowance is Rs 1,500 per night, and round trips are billed on at least 250 km per calendar day.

IXC airport and Chandigarh railway station pickups
Chandigarh International Airport is on the Mohali side, off the Airport Road that links the PR-7 corridor with Zirakpur. From Sector 17 it is roughly 12 to 14 km; from Kharar or Panchkula it is closer to 20. The drive is quick except at the Tribune Chowk and Zirakpur flyover bottlenecks at office hours. Your driver watches the flight status, waits in the arrivals area with your name on a board, and holds the car free for 30 minutes after a domestic landing or 60 minutes after an international one. Beyond that, the hourly rate applies.
Chandigarh railway station is in the Daria area, next to the Industrial Area Phase 1, and the Shatabdi arrivals from Delhi bring a rush of pickups at mid-morning and late evening. Panchkula also has the Chandimandir halt and Mohali its own small station; tell us which one you need.
| Destination in the Tricity | Approx. km from IXC | Sedan | Innova Crysta |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mohali Phase 7-11 / IT City | 8 km | Rs 3,750 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 6,570 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Zirakpur / VIP Road | 10 km | Rs 3,750 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 6,570 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Sector 17 / Sector 22 hotels | 13 km | Rs 3,750 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 6,570 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Chandigarh railway station | 11 km | Rs 3,750 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 6,570 Pay Now to Reserve |
| PGIMER, Sector 12 | 17 km | Rs 3,750 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 6,570 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Panchkula Sector 5 / 20 | 18 km | Rs 3,750 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 6,570 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Kharar / New Chandigarh | 22 km | Rs 3,750 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 6,570 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Pinjore Gardens | 32 km | Rs 3,750 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 6,570 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Kasauli (outstation, minimum fare applies) | 60 km | Rs 3,750 Pay Now to Reserve one way | Rs 6,570 Pay Now to Reserve one way |
For Kasauli or Morni the booking is treated as an outstation trip. A same-day return to Kasauli is about 120 km, but the 250 km daily minimum applies, so a sedan comes to Rs 9,000 Pay Now to Reserve and an Innova to Rs 14,250 Pay Now to Reserve before GST.
Getting around the sectors: local hire explained
Chandigarh is easy to navigate once you understand the sector grid, and the drivers we book know which roundabout leads where. The half-day 4 hr / 40 km slab suits a hospital visit to PGI, a court hearing in Sector 43, or a shopping trip to Elante and back. The 8 hr / 80 km slab is for a real working day: a meeting in the IT Park, lunch in Sector 26, an afternoon at a Mohali office and a drop at the airport for the evening flight.
Local rules that make a difference:
- Traffic enforcement is strict. Chandigarh police cameras catch lane jumping and seat-belt violations, including the rear seat. Please belt up; any fine for a passenger violation is not something the driver can absorb.
- Parking. Sector 17, the Rose Garden and Sukhna Lake have paid lots, charged at actual cost. Elante and the Sector 35 markets fill by 7 pm on weekends.
- Morning and evening peaks. Madhya Marg, Dakshin Marg and the Tribune Chowk-Zirakpur stretch are slow from 9 to 10:30 am and from 5:30 to 8 pm.
- Weddings and palaces. Many marriage palaces sit on the Zirakpur-Patiala road and the Kharar highway. Late-night drop-offs after 11 pm are common; tell us your finish time when you book.
If you want a chauffeur for several days, or a car to meet visiting relatives for a week of family functions, ask for a multi-day quote. For group movements of ten or more, a tempo traveller in Chandigarh keeps everyone in one vehicle.

One day in the City Beautiful: a sightseeing plan
Chandigarh was designed by Le Corbusier and his team in the 1950s, and the Capitol Complex is part of a UNESCO World Heritage listing of his architectural work. The Chandigarh Administration site has visitor information for the Capitol Complex tours. A relaxed day by taxi looks like this:
- Sukhna Lake at 7 am. Walk the promenade before the heat and the crowd; paddle boats open a little later.
- Rock Garden at 9 am. Nek Chand's sculpture garden of recycled tile and ceramic, a short drive from the lake.
- Capitol Complex at 10:30 am. Guided tours cover the High Court, the Open Hand Monument and the Assembly exterior; carry photo ID.
- Lunch in Sector 26 or Sector 7. Both have strong dhaba and cafe options.
- Rose Garden, Sector 16, at 3 pm. At its best in February and March.
- Pinjore Gardens at 5 pm. The Mughal-style terraced garden is about 20 km out towards Kalka; lights come on at dusk.
- Drop home by 8 pm. The whole loop stays within an 8 hr / 80 km package.
Hill drives and outstation cabs from Chandigarh
This is where Chandigarh cabs earn their keep. The city is the gateway to Himachal, and a chauffeur who drives the Parwanoo-Solan-Shimla road every week is worth more than any gadget. Our dedicated route pages give full fare breakdowns for the three busiest runs: Chandigarh to Shimla taxi, Chandigarh to Manali taxi and Delhi to Chandigarh taxi.
| Route | Approx. km | Typical time | Sedan one way | Innova one way | Sedan round trip |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chandigarh to Shimla (Innova: minimum fare applies) | 115 km | 3.5 hrs | Rs 4,140 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 6,570 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 9,000 Pay Now to Reserve (1 day) |
| Chandigarh to Manali | 310 km | 8 hrs | Rs 11,160 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 17,670 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 22,320 Pay Now to Reserve (2 days) |
| Chandigarh to Delhi | 245 km | 4.5 hrs | Rs 8,820 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 13,970 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 17,640 Pay Now to Reserve (1 day) |
| Chandigarh to Amritsar | 230 km | 4.5 hrs | Rs 8,280 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 13,110 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 16,560 Pay Now to Reserve (1 day) |
| Chandigarh to Dharamshala | 240 km | 6 hrs | Rs 8,640 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 13,680 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 17,280 Pay Now to Reserve (2 days) |
| Chandigarh to Kasauli (minimum fare applies) | 60 km | 1.5 hrs | Rs 3,750 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 6,570 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 9,000 Pay Now to Reserve (1 day) |
Round-trip figures are the higher of actual kilometres or 250 km per day, multiplied by the per-km rate, and exclude night allowance. For Manali over two days, the actual 620 km beats the 500 km minimum, so 620 x Rs 36 = Rs 22,320 Pay Now to Reserve in a sedan or Rs 35,340 Pay Now to Reserve in an Innova Crysta.
Hill driving notes from our desk:
- Leave early. Beat the Parwanoo toll plaza and the Solan bottleneck by crossing before 8 am on weekends.
- Choose the right car. A sedan is fine for Shimla and Kasauli. For Manali, Spiti or snow weekends we suggest an Innova Crysta or a Fortuner for ground clearance and comfort on long climbs.
- Snow months. From late December to February, roads above Shimla (Kufri, Narkanda) and beyond Manali (Solang, the Atal Tunnel side) can close after snowfall. Drivers will not attempt a closed road; the Himachal Tourism site and local police advisories guide the plan.
- Permits. Some high-altitude areas above Manali need an online vehicle permit. The driver's time spent queuing is part of the trip; the permit fee is charged at actual cost.
Planning a full Himachal circuit? Our Himachal taxi service page covers multi-day loops through Shimla, Manali, Dharamshala and Dalhousie, and there are city pages for taxi service in Shimla and taxi service in Manali once you arrive. Heading west to the Golden Temple instead? See taxi service in Amritsar.

When Chandigarh cabs get busy
- Summer escape (May and June). Weekend demand for Shimla and Manali cabs doubles as Delhi and Punjab families head for the hills. Book two weeks ahead.
- Snow weekends (December to February). Short trips to Kufri and Narkanda spike after every forecast of snowfall.
- Wedding season (November to February). Marriage palaces around Zirakpur, Mohali and the Kharar road need guest shuttles and decorated cars. For a statement arrival, see our luxury car rental in Chandigarh page.
- Lohri (13 January) and the Rose Festival (February). Local traffic heavy around Sector 16 and the lake.
- Monsoon (July to September). Landslides can slow the Shimla and Manali highways. We build buffer time into hill quotes and keep you updated through the desk.
Per kilometre cab charges from Chandigarh (2026)
Fares updated September 2026. Every trip that leaves the Tricity, whether a quick Kasauli run or a week in Kangra, is priced per kilometre by car class. The rates are national and do not rise in the snow season or on long weekends; what changes in peak weeks is availability, not price. The example columns show the one-way cost for three drives we book from Chandigarh almost every day.
| Chandigarh cab type | Seats | Per km | Shimla (115 km) | Dharamshala (240 km) | Katra (330 km) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Innova Crysta, hill favourite (Shimla: minimum fare applies) | 6 | Rs 57.6 | Rs 6,570 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 13,680 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 18,810 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Sedan | 4 | Rs 36 | Rs 4,140 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 8,640 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 11,880 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Fortuner / Gloster (Shimla: minimum fare applies) | 6 | Rs 84 | Rs 11,760 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 20,160 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 27,720 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Ertiga / Carens MUV | 6 | Rs 42 | Rs 4,830 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 10,080 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 13,860 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Tempo Traveller 12-17 seat (Shimla: minimum fare applies) | 16 | Rs 78 | Rs 10,200 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 18,720 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 25,740 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Honda City / Verna (Shimla: minimum fare applies) | 4 | Rs 48 | Rs 5,640 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 11,520 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 15,840 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Force Urbania 10-17 seat (Shimla: minimum fare applies) | 17 | Rs 102 | Rs 14,100 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 24,480 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 33,660 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Luxury SUV (Shimla: minimum fare applies) | 5 | Rs 230 | Rs 29,790 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 54,000 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 74,250 Pay Now to Reserve |
Because the rate is fixed, the only variables are distance and days. A one-way drop is simply the kilometres times the rate, with the minimum fare as the floor. A round trip uses the higher of the actual distance or 250 km for each calendar day, so a relaxed four-day Dharamshala and Dalhousie circuit is compared against a 1,000 km floor. Tolls, Himachal and Punjab entry taxes, the Jammu and Kashmir entry fee for Katra, and parking are added at actual cost, with receipts.
Half day, full day and 12 hour cab packages in the Tricity
The 12 hour / 120 km slab costs one and a half times the full-day fare plus 40 kilometres at the car's per-km rate, rounded to Rs 30. It suits long hospital days at PGI with a relative, a wedding that starts with a morning path at a gurdwara and ends with a late reception in Zirakpur, or a visiting delegation shuttling between Sector 1 offices, Mohali and Panchkula.
| Tricity package | Long day 12 hr / 120 km | Full day 8 hr / 80 km | Half day 4 hr / 40 km | Each extra km |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Innova Crysta, 6 seats | Rs 20,220 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 11,970 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 7,170 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 57.6/km |
| Sedan, 4 seats | Rs 11,700 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 6,840 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 4,110 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 36/km |
| Tempo Traveller, 12-17 | Rs 30,900 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 18,540 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 11,100 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 78/km |
| Ertiga, 6 seats | Rs 14,520 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 8,550 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 5,130 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 42/km |
| Fortuner, 6 seats | Rs 35,430 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 21,360 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 12,840 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 84/km |
| Honda City, 4 seats | Rs 17,310 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 10,260 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 6,150 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 48/km |
| Urbania, 10-17 | Rs 42,540 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 25,650 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 15,390 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 102/km |
Prices exclude 5% GST. The clock and the odometer start at your pickup, not at our driver's home. Kilometres beyond the package are charged at the per-km rate shown; time beyond the package is billed at the hourly rate displayed in the booker before payment. If you already know the day will stretch well past eight hours, book the 12 hour slab from the start so the price is settled before you travel.
Stations and bus stands across the Tricity
Rail and bus arrivals are billed like airport transfers: within 40 km, a flat Rs 3,750 Pay Now to Reserve in a sedan and Rs 6,570 Pay Now to Reserve in an Innova Crysta.
| Arrival point | Where most passengers go | Approx. km | Sedan | Innova Crysta |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chandigarh railway station (Daria) | Sectors 17, 22, 35 hotels | 8-10 km | Rs 3,750 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 6,570 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Chandigarh railway station (Daria) | Mohali Phases 7-11 | 14-18 km | Rs 3,750 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 6,570 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Panchkula / Chandimandir | Panchkula sectors, Pinjore | 5-15 km | Rs 3,750 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 6,570 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Mohali (SAS Nagar) station | Aerocity, IT City, Kharar | 5-12 km | Rs 3,750 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 6,570 Pay Now to Reserve |
| ISBT Sector 43 | PGI, Sector 12, Panjab University | 5-7 km | Rs 3,750 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 6,570 Pay Now to Reserve |
| ISBT Sector 17 | Zirakpur, Dhakoli, Peer Muchalla | 12-18 km | Rs 3,750 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 6,570 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Kalka railway station (toy train) | Chandigarh or Panchkula hotels | 25-30 km | Rs 3,750 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 6,570 Pay Now to Reserve |
Kalka is worth a note. Many visitors ride the heritage Kalka-Shimla toy train up and take a cab back down, or the reverse. We can meet the train at Shimla, or drop you at Kalka station early enough for the morning departure; the station is small and parking is limited, so drivers drop at the entrance and wait on the approach road.

More drives from Chandigarh
Beyond the classic Shimla and Manali runs, these destinations are requested regularly. One-way fares are distance times the rate, never below the minimum fare; the round-trip column shows the sedan fare over the number of days most people take.
| From Chandigarh | Approx. km one way | Sedan one way | Innova one way | Sedan round trip (days) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Patiala (minimum fare applies) | 70 km | Rs 3,750 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 6,570 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 9,000 Pay Now to Reserve (1) |
| Anandpur Sahib (minimum fare applies) | 90 km | Rs 3,750 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 6,570 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 9,000 Pay Now to Reserve (1) |
| Ludhiana (minimum fare applies) | 100 km | Rs 3,750 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 6,570 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 9,000 Pay Now to Reserve (1) |
| Kufri | 130 km | Rs 4,680 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 7,410 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 9,360 Pay Now to Reserve (1) |
| Narkanda | 175 km | Rs 6,300 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 9,970 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 18,000 Pay Now to Reserve (2) |
| Haridwar | 210 km | Rs 7,560 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 11,970 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 15,120 Pay Now to Reserve (1) |
| Rishikesh | 215 km | Rs 7,740 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 12,250 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 18,000 Pay Now to Reserve (2) |
| McLeodganj | 250 km | Rs 9,000 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 14,250 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 18,000 Pay Now to Reserve (2) |
| Katra | 330 km | Rs 11,880 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 18,810 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 23,760 Pay Now to Reserve (2) |
| Dalhousie | 350 km | Rs 12,600 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 19,950 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 25,200 Pay Now to Reserve (2) |
The Haridwar and Rishikesh runs cross into Uttarakhand through the Paonta Sahib or Yamunanagar side and are popular before the Char Dham season opens in May; once there, our taxi service in Rishikesh and taxi service in Dehradun pages take over. The Anandpur Sahib run peaks at Hola Mohalla in March. National highway updates, including the four-lane works on the Shimla road, are published by the National Highways Authority of India.
App cab, rental car or a hill-trained chauffeur?
Inside the sectors, an app cab or an auto is often the cheapest way to cover a few kilometres. The picture changes quickly once hills or a long day are involved.
| Choice | Works well for | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| App-based cab | Short rides inside the Tricity | Many app drivers do not take hill bookings; surge pricing at peak times |
| Self-drive rental | Experienced mountain drivers | Ghat fatigue, unfamiliar snow rules, parking in Shimla and Manali |
| Local taxi stand | Quick outstation drop at a negotiated price | Fare agreed verbally; tolls and night halt terms often unclear |
| RutzIndia.com chauffeur | Airport runs, full days, hill trips, groups | Book ahead in May-June and on snow weekends |
The biggest difference in the hills is the driver. On the Parwanoo-Solan section and above Manali, a driver who knows where the road narrows, where the dhabas are clean, and when to stop for the day is worth more than a small saving on the fare.
Hill-driving etiquette our drivers follow
Passengers often ask what to expect on a mountain drive. Our Himachal drivers work to a simple code:
- Uphill traffic has right of way. Downhill vehicles pull in at wider points, and our drivers do the same.
- No overtaking on blind curves. Horns are used before hairpins, as local practice expects.
- Engine braking downhill. Lower gears on long descents keep the brakes cool, especially on the Kalka and Mandi sections.
- Rest every two to three hours. Dharampur, Solan and Mandi have reliable food stops.
- No night driving on unfamiliar high roads. Beyond Manali and in snow months the car stops for the night rather than pressing on.
- Weather first. If police close a road, the driver waits or reroutes; the desk will call you with options.
Motion sickness is common on the ghats. Sit in front if you can, keep a window open a little, and ask the driver to stop whenever you need to; there is no charge for short stops.
