Why book a Delhi to Chandigarh taxi when there are trains and buses? Because the station is rarely where you are going. A private cab picks you up from your gate in Delhi, stops when you want a parantha at Murthal, and drops you at a house in Mohali Phase 7, a hospital in Sector 12 or a hotel in Zirakpur without a second change. On RutzIndia.com the Delhi to Chandigarh one way taxi is priced per kilometre, shown before payment, and driven by a chauffeur who does this road every week.
What a Delhi to Chandigarh taxi costs
A one-way Delhi to Chandigarh taxi is Rs 8,820 Pay Now to Reserve in a compact sedan, from 245 km at Rs 36/km, and Rs 13,970 Pay Now to Reserve in an Innova Crysta. Coming back the same day, the car is billed on 490 km: Rs 17,640 Pay Now to Reserve by sedan. Fares exclude 5% GST, and tolls and parking are added at actual.
| Car class | One-way drop | Same-day return (490 km) | Two days, return (500 km) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Compact sedan (Dzire, Amaze) | Rs 8,820 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 17,640 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 18,000 Pay Now to Reserve |

| MUV (Ertiga, Carens) | Rs 10,290 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 20,580 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 21,000 Pay Now to Reserve |

The two-day column reflects our round-trip rule: we bill the actual kilometres or 250 km for each calendar day, whichever is more, because the car stays reserved for you. Overnight trips also carry a driver night allowance of Rs 1,500. Our rates do not change at weekends or during festivals.

Kilometre by kilometre: the NH44 drive
The route is simple on a map and busy in practice. Your chauffeur leaves Delhi on the Grand Trunk Road, now numbered NH44, crossing the city limit at the Singhu border near Kundli. From there the highway runs straight north across the Haryana plains:
- Murthal (about 50 km): the famous parantha dhabas, open around the clock. Most families stop here, on the way up or the way back.
- Panipat (about 90 km): the historic battlefield town, bypassed by the highway on an elevated section.
- Karnal (about 125 km): a common second stop, with highway restaurants and fuel. Karna Lake sits just off the road.
- Kurukshetra turn at Pipli (about 160 km): for Brahma Sarovar and the Jyotisar tirtha, a detour of roughly 40 minutes each way.
- Ambala (about 200 km): the highway splits. Traffic for Amritsar carries on towards Rajpura; your car turns north on the road to Zirakpur.
- Zirakpur (about 235 km): the gateway to the Tricity, where the flyovers deliver you into Chandigarh, Mohali or Panchkula.
The six-lane highway has service roads, but trucks use every lane and cattle occasionally wander on to the carriageway near towns, so a chauffeur who respects speed limits is worth more than one who promises to beat the clock. The National Highways Authority of India maintains the corridor and its toll plazas.
Tolls, border crossings and permits
Expect several toll plazas: on NH44 in Haryana (the one near Karnal is the best known) and on the Ambala-Zirakpur stretch. Rates are revised annually, so rather than quote a figure that could date, we charge tolls at actual via FASTag and itemise each one on the invoice.
The trip crosses three jurisdictions: Delhi, Haryana and the Union Territory of Chandigarh. Our taxis carry All-India tourist permits for interstate commercial travel. If a specific vehicle attracts any state entry tax on the day, it is passed through at cost with a receipt. There is no separate permit to arrange on your side.

When to leave Delhi
The single biggest variable is getting out of north Delhi. The stretch from the Ring Road past Mukarba Chowk to the Singhu border can take an hour at the wrong time.
- Before 7 am on weekdays: clear roads, Chandigarh by about 11 am.
- Mid-morning, 10 am to noon: fine for leisure trips; lunch at Karnal.
- Weekday evening peak, 5 to 8 pm: slow exit from Delhi. Add 45 to 60 minutes.
- Friday evening: Delhi families head north for the hills, so both the highway and Zirakpur get congested.
- Winter mornings in December and January: dense fog on the Haryana plains. We may suggest a later start for safety.
Returning to Delhi, Sunday afternoon and evening are the busiest. Starting back before 2 pm or after 8 pm saves real time.
Pickup areas in Delhi NCR
We collect from anywhere in the capital region. North and west Delhi addresses such as Model Town, Pitampura, Rohini and Punjabi Bagh are closest to the highway and save time. We also pick up across south Delhi, the Lutyens' zone, East Delhi and Noida, Gurgaon and Faridabad; those add distance inside the city, which is reflected in the quote.
Airport to Chandigarh: many travellers fly into IGI and drive north rather than wait for a connection. Your chauffeur tracks the flight and meets you with a name board, with 60 free minutes after an international arrival and 30 after a domestic one; longer waits are billed at the hourly rate. The Delhi airport taxi page covers terminal meeting points.

Drop points across the Tricity
Chandigarh's sector grid makes drops easy. Typical destinations include:
- The central sectors: Sector 17's plaza, Sector 22 and Sector 35's market streets.
- PGIMER in Sector 12, for patients and families travelling for treatment; the chauffeur can drop at the main block or the hostels.
- Punjab and Haryana Civil Secretariat and the High Court in the Capitol Complex.
- Mohali: IT City, the cricket stadium in Phase 9, and residential phases.
- Panchkula: sectors across the Ghaggar and the road towards Morni Hills.
- Zirakpur and Kharar: the fast-growing suburbs on either flank.
- Chandigarh International Airport, on the Mohali side, for onward flights.
For sightseeing once you arrive, the Chandigarh administration's site describes the Rock Garden, Sukhna Lake and the Rose Garden, and a local Chandigarh taxi service car works well for a day of meetings or a family visit.
Same-day return and onward to the hills
A day trip is realistic: 245 km each way, four and a half hours each way, and five or six hours in Chandigarh. The car is billed on 490 km. If your day in the city runs long, discuss it at booking, since chauffeurs' driving hours are capped for safety.
Chandigarh is also the gateway to Himachal. Many bookings continue north rather than return:
- Chandigarh to Shimla taxi: about 115 km through Parwanoo and Solan.
- Chandigarh to Manali taxi: about 310 km through Bilaspur, Mandi and Kullu.
- Or book straight through with the Delhi to Shimla taxi or Delhi to Manali taxi and keep one car and one chauffeur for the whole holiday.
For Punjab, the Delhi to Amritsar taxi follows the same highway beyond Ambala to the Golden Temple.
Choosing a car, and who books this route
Sedans suit business travellers, students heading to Panjab University and couples. Families visiting relatives in Mohali or Panchkula often need an Ertiga or Innova for six people and the gifts that go with them. Patients travelling to PGIMER appreciate the Innova's legroom and easy step-in height. Corporate teams moving between Gurgaon and Mohali's IT parks can be invoiced monthly with a GST bill in the company's name, and groups of ten or more — a cricket team, a wedding party, a school group — should look at a Tempo Traveller in Chandigarh or from Delhi.
Every car we send is no more than four model years old, cleaned before the trip and air-conditioned.
Festivals and seasons on this corridor
Wedding season from November to February is heavy in Punjab and Haryana, and Saturday evenings bring baraat processions through Zirakpur and Kharar. Lohri in January and Baisakhi in April are busy family travel dates. Diwali week sees Delhi residents heading to family homes in the Tricity, and summer holidays in May and June push traffic through Chandigarh towards the hills. Book two or three days ahead for these periods.
Small details that make the ride easier
A few practical points our chauffeurs pass on to first-time passengers on this highway:
- Luggage: a compact sedan's boot takes two large suitcases and a cabin bag. If you are moving a student to a hostel with a trunk, bedding and a cooler, choose an Ertiga or an Innova; roof carriers are not used on our cars.
- Children: tell us the children's ages when you book. You are welcome to bring your own child seat, and the chauffeur will help fit it.
- Food in the car: packed snacks are fine; the chauffeur will stop wherever you want for a proper meal rather than eating on the move.
- Documents: carry a photo ID. Police checkpoints at state borders occasionally ask passengers for identification, particularly around elections and national holidays.
- Payments on the way: you do not hand over cash for tolls. The car's FASTag pays, and the amounts appear on the final invoice.
- Comfort breaks: the highway has clean food plazas every 40 to 60 km, so there is no need to wait until Karnal if someone needs a stop earlier.
If anything changes during the trip, WhatsApp the desk and we will adjust the plan or the drop address and confirm any fare difference before the chauffeur acts on it.

All fares are before 5% GST. Rolls-Royce, Bentley and Maybach are quoted on request, which is most often asked for by wedding families in Mohali and Panchkula. For the full range of premium cars based in the Tricity, see luxury car rental in Chandigarh.
Worked example: moving a student to Panjab University
A parent and a first-year student leave Pitampura at 7 am with two suitcases, a trunk, bedding and a small cooler. An Ertiga on rent fits all of it for Rs 10,290 Pay Now to Reserve one way; 5% GST adds Rs 510, and the plazas on NH44 and the Ambala-Zirakpur road are added at actual. If the parent wants to return the same evening after settling the student into the hostel in Sector 14 or 25, the same car on a same-day return is Rs 20,580 Pay Now to Reserve, which is cheaper than a one-way cab up and a second cab back.
Distance, time and toll plazas along NH44
The table follows a weekday morning run from Connaught Place to Sector 17. Distances are approximate; plaza locations are as commonly known and more may open as the corridor is upgraded. Every toll is paid by FASTag and billed at actual.
| Stretch | About | Typical time | Toll plaza |
|---|---|---|---|
| Connaught Place to the Singhu border | 35 km | 60-75 min | none inside Delhi |
| Singhu to Murthal | 15 km | 15 min | none |
| Murthal to Panipat | 40 km | 35 min | plaza on the Panipat stretch |
| Panipat to Karnal | 35 km | 30 min | Bastara plaza, near Gharaunda |
| Karnal to Pipli (Kurukshetra turn) | 35 km | 30 min | none |
| Pipli to Ambala | 40 km | 35 min | none |
| Ambala to Zirakpur | 35 km | 35-45 min | Dappar plaza, near Lalru |
| Zirakpur to Sector 17 | 10 km | 20-30 min | none |
| Total | about 245 km | about 4.5 hrs |
The figures leave out a meal at Murthal, which most families add. Leaving from Gurgaon or south Delhi adds 30 to 60 minutes of city driving before the Singhu border; the chauffeur may use the Western Peripheral Expressway around the city to skip central Delhi, which carries its own tolls.
Kalka Shatabdi, Volvo bus, self-drive or a chauffeur-driven cab?
Delhi and Chandigarh are linked by fast trains, frequent buses and a good highway, so here is how the options compare in practice.
| Option | Door to door? | Typical journey | Luggage | Suits |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kalka Shatabdi or Vande Bharat | No: station to station | About 3 to 3.5 hrs on the fastest trains | What you can carry on board | Solo business travellers near New Delhi station |
| State roadways Volvo (Haryana, HRTC, CTU and others) | No: bus terminal to ISBT 17 or 43 | About 5 hrs | Under-floor boot | Budget solo trips |
| Self-drive rental | Yes | About 4.5 hrs, you drive NH44 | Depends on car | Drivers who need the car in the Tricity for days |
| Chauffeur-driven cab | Yes | About 4.5 hrs, you rest | Boot plus cabin | Families, patients, students, airport arrivals |
The Kalka Shatabdi is one of India's best-known day trains, and current timings and availability are on the Indian Railways enquiry site. Its limitation is the station at each end: New Delhi station at 7 am is a struggle with luggage, and Chandigarh station is on the city's eastern edge, a taxi ride from Mohali or PGIMER. Haryana Roadways and the other state operators run frequent Volvo coaches from ISBT Kashmere Gate, excellent value for one person travelling light.
A private cab wins when the journey starts or ends away from those terminals, when someone needs to lie back or stop often, or when three or more people share the car. Self-drive is fine for experienced highway drivers, but NH44 is a truck-heavy road, and fog in winter makes it demanding.
Pickup variants in Delhi NCR
Wherever you start, the fare is worked out on the route distance plus any significant extra city distance; the booker shows the exact figure.
| Pickup point | Where we meet you | Tip |

| IGI Terminal 1 | Domestic arrivals pickup area | Share airline and flight number |
| New Delhi railway station | Paharganj or Ajmeri Gate side | Send coach number and exit |
| ISBT Kashmere Gate | Nearest permitted pickup bay | Already on the north side of the city |
| North and west Delhi homes (Model Town, Rohini, Pitampura, Punjabi Bagh) | Your gate | The quickest starts for NH44 |
| Central Delhi hotels (Connaught Place, Janpath, Lutyens' zone) | Hotel porch | Leave early to clear the Ring Road |
| Aerocity and Gurgaon | Hotel or office lobby | Western Peripheral Expressway often used |
| Noida and Ghaziabad | Your gate | The Eastern Peripheral Expressway can bypass Delhi |
Sightseeing add-ons in and around Chandigarh
If you want the car for a day after arriving, local packages in Chandigarh are priced at the city's rates, also shown on our Chandigarh taxi service page.
| Chandigarh local package | Compact sedan | Innova Crysta | Tempo Traveller |
|---|---|---|---|

| 8 hr / 80 km | Rs 6,840 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 11,970 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 18,530 Pay Now to Reserve |
What fits inside those packages:

- Zakir Hussain Rose Garden: Sector 16, at its finest during the February rose festival.
- Capitol Complex: Le Corbusier's High Court, Secretariat and Assembly, part of a UNESCO-listed body of his work; visits are by arrangement with the local tourism authorities.

- Mata Mansa Devi temple, Panchkula: busy during the Navratri fairs.
- Morni Hills: Haryana's only hill station, roughly 45 km away, a quiet half-day drive.
Longer excursions, such as Kasauli in the Shivaliks or Anandpur Sahib, are better booked as outstation day trips billed at the 250 km daily minimum: Rs 9,000 Pay Now to Reserve by sedan or Rs 14,250 Pay Now to Reserve by Innova before GST.

Onward fares: Chandigarh as a gateway
A large share of Delhi to Chandigarh bookings are really the first leg of a longer trip. These are the neighbouring one-way fares at our standard rates.
| Route | About | Compact sedan | Innova Crysta |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chandigarh to Shimla (Innova: minimum fare applies) | 115 km | Rs 4,140 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 6,570 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Delhi to Chandigarh | 245 km | Rs 8,820 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 13,970 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Chandigarh to Manali | 310 km | Rs 11,160 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 17,670 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Delhi to Shimla | 345 km | Rs 12,420 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 19,670 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Delhi to Amritsar | 450 km | Rs 16,200 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 25,650 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Delhi to Manali | 540 km | Rs 19,440 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 30,780 Pay Now to Reserve |
A popular three-day loop runs Delhi to Chandigarh, a night in the Tricity, up to Shimla the next morning, and straight back to Delhi on day three: about 705 km. Billed at the 250 km daily minimum, that is 750 km, which is Rs 27,000 Pay Now to Reserve by compact sedan or Rs 42,750 Pay Now to Reserve by Innova Crysta, plus two night allowances and 5% GST, with tolls and parking at actual. The same logic applies to Kasauli, Chail or Morni: one booking, one chauffeur, one invoice. How round trips are billed across the country is explained on the outstation cabs page.
Travelling to PGIMER or a Mohali hospital
Many families on this road are travelling for treatment, and a little planning makes the day far easier.
- Book the car the patient will be most comfortable in. An Innova's higher seat is easier to get into than a sedan, and there is room for a folded wheelchair, pillows and a small bag of reports.
- Tell us the block or gate. PGIMER is a large campus in Sector 12 with separate blocks and entrances; the chauffeur will drop you as close as security allows and wait at the designated parking.
- Plan the return realistically. OPD days can run long. If you might stay overnight, book one way and add a one-way taxi back when you know the discharge or appointment time.
- Build in breaks. The chauffeur will stop at clean food plazas whenever the patient needs, without affecting the fare.
We do not provide medical staff or ambulance services; for patients who need medical support in transit, please use an ambulance provider.
Fog, heat and monsoon on NH44
The Haryana plains are flat and fast, but the weather sets the pace. From mid-December to late January, dense fog often settles overnight and lingers into the morning, and chauffeurs will drive slowly with hazard lights or wait at a dhaba until it lifts. In May and June, midday temperatures can exceed 45 degrees; the air conditioning is kept on and water is carried in the car. During the monsoon, waterlogging at underpasses in Zirakpur and on Delhi's outer roads can slow the last few kilometres. None of these change the fare: you pay the per-km price, not for the time taken.
Booking and cancellation
Book on the RutzIndia.com booking page with your addresses, date and car. The fare and the separate 5% GST line appear before you pay by card or UPI. Included: car, chauffeur and fuel. At actual: tolls, parking, any state entry tax and, on overnight trips, the driver's night allowance. Free cancellation applies until 72 hours before pickup; after that the charge is 10% of the fare within 72 hours, 50% within 48 hours and 100% within 24 hours or if the traveller does not show. Full wording is in the cancellation policy.
