Delhi to Manali is the road trip that half of north India takes at least once: for a honeymoon, the first snow of a child's life, a college reunion or a summer escape from 45 degrees. Overnight buses are cheap, but they arrive at dawn with stiff backs and leave you at a bus stand below Mall Road. A Delhi to Manali taxi from RutzIndia.com starts at your front door, lets you break the journey where you like, and keeps a chauffeur with you in the valley for Solang, Old Manali and the Atal Tunnel.
Delhi to Manali taxi price
A Delhi to Manali one way taxi costs Rs 19,440 Pay Now to Reserve in a compact sedan (about 540 km at Rs 36/km) and Rs 30,780 Pay Now to Reserve in an Innova Crysta. A round trip needs at least three days and is billed on 1,080 km: Rs 38,880 Pay Now to Reserve by sedan, Rs 61,560 Pay Now to Reserve by Innova. Fares are before 5% GST; tolls, Himachal entry tax and parking are at actual.
Most families book a round trip with the car staying in Manali. Round trips are billed on the actual kilometres or 250 km for every calendar day, whichever is higher, so a six-day holiday is billed on 1,500 km. That allowance usually covers the drive both ways plus local sightseeing around Manali.
| Car | One way (540 km) | 3-day return (1,080 km) | 6-day holiday (1,500 km) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Swift Dzire / Honda Amaze | Rs 19,440 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 38,880 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 54,000 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Maruti Ertiga / Kia Carens | Rs 22,680 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 45,360 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 63,000 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Innova Crysta / Hycross | Rs 30,780 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 61,560 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 85,500 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Toyota Fortuner | Rs 45,360 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 90,720 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 1,26,000 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Tempo Traveller | Rs 42,120 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 84,240 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 1,17,000 Pay Now to Reserve |
Add Rs 1,500 per night for the chauffeur's night allowance: two nights on the three-day trip, five on the six-day holiday. On a one-way drop the chauffeur's return is our cost, not yours.

Should you drive it in one day or two?
At about 540 km and roughly twelve hours of driving, Delhi to Manali is a very long day. We run it both ways, and the right choice depends on the season and on who is travelling.
One long day. Leave Delhi at 4 or 5 am, cross the plains before the heat and the trucks, and reach Manali by late afternoon or early evening. This works in summer, when daylight lasts until after 7 pm, for fit adults who do not mind a full day in the car. Our rule is that the hill section beyond Bilaspur should be driven in daylight wherever possible, so the early start matters.
Two easier days. Break the journey at Chandigarh (about 245 km) or, better, at Mandi or near Bilaspur, so the second day is a relaxed half-day up the Beas. This is what we recommend for elderly parents, young children, winter trips when days are short, and anyone who gets car-sick on bends. On a one-way booking the break adds one night allowance; on a round trip the extra day is usually absorbed by the per-day billing anyway.
Either way, the chauffeur takes a rest stop at least every two to three hours and does not start the return leg without adequate sleep.
The route from Delhi to the Kullu valley
The drive falls into three parts.
Delhi to Kiratpur (about 310 km, plains). North up NH44 past Murthal, Panipat, Karnal and Ambala, then across to Kharar and Ropar on the Sutlej, or through Chandigarh itself if you are breaking the trip there. This is fast highway driving with toll plazas and good food stops. The Delhi to Chandigarh taxi page describes this stretch in detail.
Kiratpur to Mandi (about 125 km, foothills). The Kiratpur-Manali highway climbs past the Gobind Sagar reservoir near Bilaspur and through Sundernagar to Mandi. Recent four-laning with tunnels has made this far easier than it used to be.
Mandi to Manali (about 110 km, the Beas gorge). After the Pandoh dam the road threads the gorge, passes through the Aut tunnel and opens into the Kullu valley at Bhuntar, then follows the river through Kullu to Manali. Expect slower speeds, occasional one-lane sections and, in season, heavy tourist traffic near Manali.
These are national highways under the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, which publishes road-network and toll policy. Tolls are collected on the plains and on the four-lane hill sections, and Himachal levies an entry tax on commercial vehicles registered outside the state. All of these are paid on the way, never marked up, and itemised on your invoice at actual cost.

Permits and interstate notes
The journey crosses Delhi, Haryana, Punjab or Chandigarh, and Himachal Pradesh. Our cars carry All-India tourist permits, so there is nothing for you to arrange for the drive itself. Beyond Manali:
- Rohtang Pass requires an online permit for the date of travel, with a cap on vehicle numbers, and is open only in the warmer months.
- The Atal Tunnel, which bores under the Rohtang ridge for a little over nine kilometres to Sissu in Lahaul, has made Lahaul reachable for much more of the year. Local rules and fees on this approach are revised by the district administration, and our desk confirms the current position when you book.
- Spiti and Leh: the Manali-Leh highway and the Kunzum Pass road to Spiti open only in summer and early autumn. These trips need different planning, a suitable car and extra days.
Any permit fee or green tax is charged at actual.
Seasons, festivals and road conditions
- Mid-March to June: the main season. Delhi's heat drives families north, and May and June weekends are the busiest of the year in Manali, with slow traffic from Kullu onwards. Holi week in March and the Easter and summer school holidays fill hotels early.
- July to mid-September: monsoon. Rain brings landslides and, in bad years, flood damage to the Kiratpur-Manali highway and the Mandi-Kullu stretch. We keep a close watch on road status with local chauffeurs and will advise postponing if the highway is closed. Travel is quieter and greener if the weather allows.
- Mid-September to November: the clearest skies of the year. Kullu Dussehra in October is a week-long festival of the valley's deities.
- December to February: snow season. Manali and Solang often get snow, and the Atal Tunnel approach may close temporarily after heavy falls. Christmas, New Year and weekends are packed with honeymooners and families. An SUV such as the Fortuner or an Innova with good tyres is strongly advised, and chains may be needed on higher roads.
Check festivals and state travel advisories on Himachal Tourism before you go.

Where to stop on the way
- Murthal: paranthas and lassi within the first hour.
- Karnal or Ambala: a second breakfast or early lunch on the highway.
- Ropar or Kiratpur Sahib: gurdwaras on the Sutlej, and the last plains town.
- Bilaspur and the Gobind Sagar: broad views of the reservoir from the new highway.
- Mandi: temples, the old market and a good lunch; the natural overnight halt on a two-day plan.
- Kullu and Bhuntar: shawl co-operatives and the turn for Kasol and Manikaran in the Parvati valley.
Pickup in Delhi, drop in Manali
We pick up from any address in Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad and Faridabad. North and west Delhi are closest to NH44; very early starts from Gurgaon or Noida are fine because the city is empty at 4 am. For a traveller arriving by air, the chauffeur tracks the flight into IGI and waits with a name board, allowing 60 minutes free for international arrivals and 30 for domestic ones before hourly waiting applies. After a long-haul flight we usually suggest resting overnight in Delhi and leaving next morning.
In Manali, we drop at Mall Road and the Model Town hotels, the guest houses of Old Manali, Hadimba temple, Vashisht, the resorts on the Left Bank road and at Aleo, Solang Valley, and Naggar across the river. Very narrow lanes in Old Manali may mean a short walk from the last point a car can safely reach.
Choosing your car for the hills
- Compact sedan (Rs 19,440 Pay Now to Reserve one way): two passengers travelling in summer with light bags. Comfortable on the plains, adequate in the hills.
- Ertiga (Rs 22,680 Pay Now to Reserve): a family of five on a budget.
- Innova Crysta (Rs 30,780 Pay Now to Reserve): our recommendation for most families. Captain seats for the long day, strong brakes, and space for winter clothing.
- Fortuner (Rs 45,360 Pay Now to Reserve): the choice for snow trips, higher roads beyond Manali and anyone wanting the reassurance of an SUV.
- Tempo Traveller or Force Urbania: college groups, extended families and office trips; book a Tempo Traveller from Delhi for 12 to 17 people.
Every car is within four model years of manufacture.
More hill trips and local cars
If Manali feels too far for the time you have, the Delhi to Shimla taxi reaches the Queen of Hills in about seven hours, and the Chandigarh to Manali taxi suits travellers who fly or take the train to the Tricity first. Once you are in the valley, the Manali taxi service offers local cars by the day. For longer circuits combining Dharamshala, Dalhousie, Kasol and Spiti, see the Himachal taxi service and our outstation cabs page.
How much is a Delhi to Manali taxi in 2026?
Because Delhi to Manali is usually a holiday rather than a transfer, this chart prices the four trip lengths people actually book: a one-way drop, the shortest sensible round trip of three days, a six-day family holiday, and an eight-day trip that includes Lahaul or the Parvati valley. Multi-day figures use the rule of actual kilometres or 250 km per calendar day, whichever is higher. Rates as of September 2026, identical in peak and off-peak weeks.
| Vehicle | Charge per km | Drop in Manali | 3-day there and back (1,080 km) | 6-day holiday (1,500 km) | 8-day trip (2,000 km) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dzire, compact | Rs 36 | Rs 19,440 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 38,880 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 54,000 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 72,000 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Ertiga, 6 seats | Rs 42 | Rs 22,680 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 45,360 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 63,000 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 84,000 Pay Now to Reserve |

| Vellfire, 5 seats | Rs 210 | Rs 1,13,400 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 2,26,800 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 3,15,000 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 4,20,000 Pay Now to Reserve |
| GLS or Range Rover, 5 seats | Rs 230 | Rs 1,21,500 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 2,43,000 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 3,37,500 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 4,50,000 Pay Now to Reserve |
None of these include 5% GST, the chauffeur's night allowance of Rs 1,500 per night, tolls, the Himachal entry tax or parking.
Worked example: a college group's six-day trip
Fourteen friends from a Delhi college want six days in Manali over the summer break. One Tempo Traveller on rent seats them all, with luggage stowed behind the last row. Six days are billed on 1,500 km: Rs 1,17,000 Pay Now to Reserve. GST adds Rs 5,850, five night allowances come to Rs 7,500, and tolls, entry tax and parking are added at actual. Before those road charges, the vehicle costs about Rs 8,370 per head for six days of door-to-door travel. A group of 17 wanting more headroom can take an Urbania on rent for Rs 1,53,000 Pay Now to Reserve over the same six days.
The one-day drive, hour by hour
This timeline assumes a 5 am departure from north Delhi on a clear summer day, with a breakfast halt and a lunch halt. Distances are cumulative and approximate; road charges are listed by type because plaza locations shift as new sections open. All charges are paid on the way and itemised at actual.
| Around | Point reached | Km from Delhi | Road charges passed |
|---|---|---|---|
| 6.00 am | Murthal | 50 | none yet |
| 7.15 am | Karnal, breakfast | 125 | NH44 plazas on the Panipat and Karnal stretches |
| 8.30 am | Ambala | 200 | none |
| 9.40 am | Kharar, via the Zirakpur bypass | 255 | Ambala-Zirakpur plaza |
| 10.45 am | Kiratpur Sahib on the Sutlej | 310 | Punjab highway toll |
| 12.00 pm | Bilaspur and the Gobind Sagar | 365 | Himachal entry tax at the border; four-lane toll |
| 1.45 pm | Mandi, lunch | 435 | none |
| 3.30 pm | Aut tunnel, after the Pandoh gorge | 475 | four-lane toll on this corridor |
| 4.30 pm | Kullu | 500 | none |
| 5.30 pm | Manali | 540 | none |
In winter the same plan finishes close to dark, which is why we usually recommend an overnight break between November and February.
Where to break the journey
| Overnight at | Km from Delhi | Km still to Manali | Why it works |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chandigarh or Zirakpur | about 245 | about 295 | Leave Delhi after work; hotels of every budget; the hill section is all on day two |
| Kiratpur or Anandpur Sahib | about 310 | about 230 | Plains done on day one; gurdwaras and quiet guest houses |
| Bilaspur | about 365 | about 175 | Lakeside hotels above the Gobind Sagar; short day two |
| Mandi | about 435 | about 105 | Temple town with a good market; only the gorge and valley left |
On a one-way booking, an overnight halt adds one night allowance; on a round trip it is usually absorbed by the daily billing. The Chandigarh taxi service page has local ideas if you stop in the Tricity.
HRTC Volvo, a flight, self-drive or a private cab to Manali?
| How | From your door? | Journey | Best for | Drawback |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| HRTC or private Volvo from ISBT Kashmere Gate | No | Overnight, roughly 12-14 hrs | Solo travellers and couples on a budget | Dawn arrival at the bus stand; little sleep |
| Flight to Bhuntar | No | Short flight, then about 50 km by road | Time-poor travellers | Few flights; cancellations in bad weather |
| Train to Chandigarh, then a cab | No | Train plus about 8 hrs by road | Rail fans who want the plains by train | Two bookings, a transfer with luggage |
| Self-drive | Yes | About 12 hrs of your own driving | Experienced hill drivers | Fatigue, hairpins, snow, monsoon slides |
| Car with a chauffeur | Yes | About 12 hrs, or two easy days | Families, groups, honeymooners | Needs planning for daylight hill driving |
HRTC, the Himachal Road Transport Corporation, runs overnight Volvo coaches from Delhi, and for one or two people they are the cheapest way up. Flights to the Kullu-Manali Airport at Bhuntar are quick when they operate, but the small valley airport is sensitive to weather. A chauffeur-driven car is the only option that starts at your gate, stops wherever you like, lets you break the trip, and stays with you in the valley for sightseeing.

| Central Delhi and Aerocity hotels | Hotel porch | A 4.30 am start beats all city traffic |
| Gurgaon | Lobby or gate | The Western Peripheral Expressway skips central Delhi |

Terminal and flight information is on the Delhi airport website; our Delhi airport taxi page explains how meeting points work.
Day trips from Manali once you are there
| Day trip from Manali | Roughly, return | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Hadimba temple, Old Manali and Vashisht | 20 km | An easy first day after the long drive |
| Solang Valley | 30 km | Snow in winter, adventure sports in summer |
| Naggar castle and the Roerich estate | 45 km | Quieter left-bank road through orchards |
| Sissu via the Atal Tunnel | 80 km | When open; rules checked at booking |
| Rohtang Pass | 100 km | Online permit, warmer months only |
| Kasol and Manikaran | 150-160 km | Long day in the Parvati valley |
On a multi-day round trip these kilometres come out of the billed allowance, so a six-day holiday at 1,500 km has plenty of room for most of the list. Manali's local rules can restrict outside taxis on certain sightseeing routes; where that applies, our Manali taxi service arranges a locally registered car at the valley's local rates and tells you in advance. October visitors can time the trip for Kullu Dussehra, when deities from across the valley are brought to Kullu's Dhalpur ground.

Month by month: which car and which plan
| Months | What the valley is like | Car we suggest | Plan |
|---|---|---|---|
| March-April | Apple blossom, cool days, snow on the high slopes | Any; Innova for families | One long day or two easy ones |
| May-June | Peak season, warm days, heavy traffic near Manali | Innova or Traveller for groups | Leave Delhi by 4.30 am; book early |
| July-mid September | Monsoon, lush but landslide-prone | Innova or Fortuner | Flexible dates; two-day drive |
| Mid September-November | Clear skies, crisp nights, Kullu Dussehra | Any | The best time for photography |
| December-February | Snow in Manali and Solang, short days | Fortuner or Innova | Always break the drive; chains ready |
The fare does not change with the season, but the plan does. Summer trips can manage the whole drive in daylight in one day; winter trips cannot, and we will always build in a night halt between November and February.
What to pack for the road and the valley
- In the cabin: water, light snacks, a warm layer, motion-sickness tablets, phone chargers and any regular medicines. The boot is hard to reach on narrow hill roads.
- For summer: sunscreen, sunglasses and a light jacket; Manali evenings are cool even in June.
- For the monsoon: a rain jacket, quick-dry footwear and a little extra cash in case a road closure means an unplanned night.
- For winter: thermals, gloves, woollen socks, waterproof boots for snow at Solang, and lip balm.
- Documents: photo ID for every adult for hotel check-in and police checkpoints, and printed or downloaded permits if you are going to Rohtang.
Mobile signal is good along NH44 and in Manali town, patchy in the Pandoh gorge and beyond the Atal Tunnel, so save hotel details offline.
Two cars for one group
Large families often split between two cars, for example an Innova for the grandparents and a Dzire for younger members. Both cars travel together with the chauffeurs in touch, stop at the same halts and are billed as separate bookings on one invoice. For groups of seven to seventeen, a single Traveller or Urbania is usually cheaper and keeps everyone together. On a six-day trip, an Innova plus a Dzire costs Rs 1,39,500 Pay Now to Reserve before GST, while one Traveller costs Rs 1,17,000 and carries up to seventeen, which is why most college and office groups choose the larger vehicle.
Booking, payment and cancellation
Book on the RutzIndia.com booking page: pickup, drop, dates, car and whether you want an overnight break. The fare appears with 5% GST shown separately, and you pay by card or UPI; businesses can request a GST invoice. Included: car, chauffeur, fuel and the chauffeur's return on one-way trips. At actual: tolls, Himachal entry tax, permits, parking and night allowances.
Cancellation is free when made more than 72 hours before pickup. Inside 72 hours the charge is 10% of the fare, inside 48 hours 50%, and inside 24 hours or on a no-show the whole fare. Weather-related road closures are discussed case by case, and you can move your dates free of charge if a car is available. The cancellation policy has the full wording.
