Ask any Indian family which car they want for a long road trip and the answer is usually the same: an Innova. The Toyota has earned that reputation over two decades of mountain passes, wedding convoys and midnight airport runs, and the current Innova Crysta and Innova Hycross keep the formula of space, comfort and durability. RutzIndia.com offers Innova Crysta on rent with a professional driver in cities across India at Rs 57.6 per km outstation and Rs 12,600 for a full 8 hour city day.
Innova Crysta on rent: fares and rent per km

Why travellers choose the Innova
Space for six. The Crysta seats six passengers plus the driver: one beside the driver, two in captain chairs in the middle row and three on the third-row bench. Captain seats leave a walkway to the back, so nobody folds a seat to get in or out.
Luggage. With the third row in use, the boot takes two or three soft bags; for six people with suitcases, the driver fits a roof carrier. Four passengers with the third row folded get a generous boot, which is why many families of four still pick the Innova for airport pickups.
Hills and bad roads. High ground clearance, a torquey diesel on most Crystas, and a chassis that shrugs off potholes make it the default on routes to Manali, Shimla, Mussoorie and the Char Dham. Mountain drivers trust it.
Comfort over distance. Rear AC vents, reclining middle-row seats and a quiet cabin make a 10 hour highway day tolerable, even pleasant.
Toyota's own specification pages for the model are on Toyota Bharat.
Crysta or Hycross?
Both are billed in the same class at the same rate. The Crysta, usually diesel with rear-wheel drive, is the hill favourite and has a slightly more rugged ride. The Hycross is a newer, petrol-hybrid monocoque MPV, quieter and smoother in the city, with a flat floor and often a panoramic sunroof. On the plains and for airport work either is excellent; for serious mountain routes we lean towards a Crysta. If you prefer one model, tell us at booking and we confirm it with the registration number.

Innova Crysta one-way and round-trip fares on popular routes
Round trips use the number of days typical for each route and our rule of actual kilometres or 250 km per day, whichever is higher. Fares are before GST, tolls, parking, state tax and the driver's allowance on overnight trips.

Hill routes: why the Innova is the default
Himalayan and Western Ghats roads punish small cars: long climbs, broken patches after the monsoon, and steep descents that heat brakes. The Crysta's ladder-frame build, ground clearance and diesel torque handle all three, and its middle-row captain seats make nine-hour mountain days bearable. A few route notes:
- Delhi to Manali: about 12 hours through Chandigarh, Bilaspur, Mandi and the Kullu valley, usually split with a night stop. Beyond Manali, the Atal Tunnel and Rohtang routes need local permits.
- Delhi to Shimla: about 7 hours, with the four-lane highway now covering much of the way; Kufri and Narkanda make good add-ons.
- Char Dham: the Innova is the car most families choose for the ten-day yatra; see Char Dham yatra by car.
- Bangalore to Ooty and Coorg: forest check-posts on the Ooty road have night-time traffic restrictions, so plan to cross in daylight.
Uttarakhand's official tourism portal is useful for hill-town information and seasonal advisories. We plan hill legs to finish before dark where possible.
Innova for NRIs and overseas visitors
NRI families landing for weddings, property work or a month with parents often keep one Innova for the whole stay. The driver meets you at arrivals with a name board, waits 60 minutes free after an international landing, loads the luggage and takes you home; after that the car is on call for relatives' visits, bank and government-office errands, and weekend trips. Payment is by card or UPI through the booker, and invoices are emailed. For stays longer than a few weeks, see our NRI car hire in India page for arrangements with a regular driver.
Innova against other cars in our fleet
- Ertiga on rent at Rs 42 per km also seats six, but has less legroom in the third row and a smaller engine. Good for city and plain-highway family trips on a tighter budget.
- Compact sedan at Rs 36 per km suits up to four people with modest luggage.
- Fortuner on rent at Rs 84 per km offers SUV presence and four-wheel-drive versions for snow and rough tracks, with less rear space than an Innova.
- Tempo traveller at Rs 78 per km becomes the better buy once your group reaches eight or more.
For most families of five or six travelling more than a couple of hundred kilometres, the Innova is the sweet spot of comfort and cost. It also holds its value on long tours: the same car is equally at home on an expressway, a ghat road and a narrow market lane, so you rarely need to switch vehicles midway.
Popular trips in an Innova Crysta
Hill holidays. Delhi to Shimla, Manali, Mussoorie and Nainital; Chandigarh to Kasauli; Bangalore to Coorg and Ooty. Hill days are planned to finish before dark, and in winter we check snow and road status the evening before.
Pilgrimages. Haridwar and Rishikesh, Vrindavan, Shirdi, Tirupati, Vaishno Devi base at Katra, and the full Char Dham circuit in summer.
One-way intercity drops. Mumbai to Pune, Delhi to Jaipur, Bangalore to Chennai: our one way taxi service bills only the route distance. For multi-day loops, see outstation cabs.
Weddings. Innovas are the backbone of baraat convoys and guest shuttles. A white Innova with floral decoration is a common choice for the groom's family, and our wedding car rental desk can arrange decoration.
Airport runs. Families with luggage, business travellers who like to work in the back, and NRIs landing late at night. Drivers track your flight and wait with a name board, free for 60 minutes after international arrivals and 30 minutes after domestic ones.
Baraat convoys and wedding shuttles in Innovas
For many North Indian weddings, a convoy of white Innovas is as traditional as the band. A few planning points from the season:
- Count seats, not cars. Each Innova carries six passengers; with elders and children, plan on five per car to leave room for gifts and garment bags.
- Stagger arrivals. Send the car carrying the groom's parents first, so they are at the venue gate to receive the baraat.
- Book full days. Wedding timings slip; a day booking with extra hours agreed in advance avoids tense conversations at midnight.
- Decoration. Floral or ribbon decoration for the lead car can be arranged through our wedding car rental desk; tell us at booking so the decorator has time.
- Coordinate with one person. Give all drivers' numbers to a single family coordinator, who dispatches cars as guests are ready.
For bigger guest movements, Innovas work alongside tempo travellers or a mini bus on the same booking and invoice.
A business day in an Innova: sample roadshow
A four-person sales team visits clients across Pune in one day: Hinjewadi in the morning, Magarpatta and Kharadi after lunch, and a dinner meeting in Koregaon Park. The 8 hour / 80 km package at Rs 12,600 Pay Now to Reserve covers most of it; if the day runs to ten hours, two extra hours are billed at the rate on the quote. The Innova's boot takes sample cases and a display stand, the middle-row captain seats let two people work on laptops, and the driver waits at each office while meetings run. The company receives a GST invoice at the end of the month.
What to pack in the car for a long drive
- A small day bag with water, snacks, medicines and chargers, kept in the cabin rather than the boot
- A light jacket or shawl for air-conditioned hours and cool hill evenings, even in May
- Motion-sickness tablets for ghat roads, plus ginger sweets or lemon drops for children who dislike tablets
- Printed or phone copies of hotel bookings and photo ID for every traveller, since hotels and some temples check them
- A garbage bag to keep the car tidy through the day, and wet wipes for dusty sightseeing stops
- Some cash for roadside tea, temple offerings and small purchases in markets
Innova for pilgrimages with elders
Temple journeys are among the most common Innova bookings. The middle-row captain seats are easy for elderly parents to get into, the ride is gentle on long days, and there is room for puja items, water and a folding stool for long queues. Popular circuits include Haridwar and Rishikesh, Mathura and Vrindavan, Shirdi and Trimbakeshwar, Tirupati, and Vaishno Devi from Jammu to Katra. Tell us the darshan or aarti time you want to reach, and we set the pickup so the family arrives early rather than rushed. On overnight pilgrimages, the driver can also drop the family at the temple gate before dawn and collect them after darshan, while he rests near the car park. For temple timings, dress codes and route ideas, see our pilgrimage taxi guide.
Worked example: Delhi to Manali and back
A family of six takes an Innova from Delhi to Manali for a three-day trip, the short version favoured by long-weekend travellers.
- Delhi to Manali is about 540 km each way; the round trip is about 1,080 km.
- Three calendar days at 250 km per day is 750 km, so the actual 1,080 km is billed.
- Fare: 1,080 km at Rs 57.6 = Rs 61,560 Pay Now to Reserve.
- Two night allowances at Rs 1,500 each.
- Tolls, Himachal entry tax for the tourist vehicle, and parking in Manali at actual cost; permits for Rohtang or beyond are extra and arranged locally.
- 5% GST on the fare.
A relaxed plan adds a night each way at Mandi or Kullu. A five-day version at the same distance would be billed on 1,250 km, Rs 71,250 Pay Now to Reserve, because the daily minimum then exceeds the kilometres driven.
Innova Crysta for corporate travel and monthly hire
Companies like the Innova for the same reasons families do, plus a few of their own. A visiting delegation of four can travel with laptops open and luggage in the back; a plant manager can cover three factory sites in a day without changing cars; a board member landing at midnight gets a quiet, familiar cabin. We supply Innovas on single-day bookings, on multi-day roadshows and on monthly contracts with a dedicated driver. Monthly users get consolidated GST invoices, and cars can be replaced for servicing without breaking the schedule. See corporate car rental for account terms and monthly car rental with driver for long-term arrangements.
For expatriates settling into Indian cities and NRIs visiting family for a month, a monthly Innova with a regular driver is often simpler than hailing app cabs several times a day, especially with elderly parents in tow.
Where you can book an Innova with driver
Innovas are available in every city we serve. Local fares follow each city's factor, and outstation trips start from your door. Popular starting points include Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai, Jaipur, Chandigarh and Dehradun, the last two being natural gateways to the Himalaya. In smaller towns we source from the nearest permitted operator, and a day's notice helps.
What to expect from your driver
Your driver arrives 15 minutes before pickup with a clean car, a full tank or enough fuel for the first leg, and the route agreed with you. He handles luggage, parking, tolls and fuel, keeps to the speed limits, and takes his breaks and meals at stops you agree on. On multi-day trips he arranges his own stay out of the night allowance. If you prefer quiet, a simple request is enough; if you would like a local tip for a dhaba or a viewpoint, most of our route drivers have plenty.
Permits, vehicle age and safety
Every Innova we dispatch is a yellow-plate commercial tourist vehicle within four model years, carrying the permits needed for interstate travel. Tourist permit rules are administered by the transport ministry through the Parivahan portal. Some states still collect entry tax from tourist vehicles at the border; the driver pays against a receipt and it is added to your bill at cost.
Drivers are experienced on the routes they drive, rest overnight on multi-day trips, and we plan hill legs to finish before dark where possible. Seat belts are fitted in every row, and we ask all passengers to use them on highways.
Booking and cancellation
Book through the online booker or WhatsApp the desk with pickup, drop, dates and passengers. You receive a written quote, pay an advance by card or UPI, and get the car number and driver's details before travel. Companies receive GST invoices, and regular users can open a monthly account.
If plans change, our cancellation policy is clear: no fee if you cancel more than 72 hours ahead, 10% within 72 hours, 50% within 48 hours and the full fare within 24 hours or on a no-show.
Innovas are the first cars to go during Diwali, Holi, the Char Dham opening weeks in May, the summer hill rush and wedding Saturdays from November to February. Book two to three weeks ahead for those periods. Outside the peaks, a day's notice is usually plenty, and in the big cities a same-day airport or local booking is often possible.
