A Mumbai to Pune taxi is the most booked intercity ride in western India, and for good reason: the two cities are joined by an access-controlled expressway, the drive is short enough to do before lunch, and a private cab drops you at the exact gate you need rather than at a bus stand on the edge of town. On RutzIndia.com you book a Mumbai to Pune cab online, see the fare before you pay, and ride with a chauffeur in a car no older than four model years.
Mumbai to Pune taxi fare at a glance
A one-way Mumbai to Pune taxi costs Rs 5,400 Pay Now to Reserve in a compact sedan (150 km at Rs 36/km) and Rs 8,550 Pay Now to Reserve in an Innova Crysta (Rs 57.6/km). A same-day round trip is billed on 300 km: Rs 10,800 Pay Now to Reserve by sedan. Fares are before 5% GST; expressway tolls and parking are charged at actual.
The fare card further down this page lists every car class. Here is the shorter version most travellers ask about, calculated straight from our published per-km rates so you can check the arithmetic yourself.
| Car | One way (150 km) | Same-day return (300 km) | Two-day return (500 km billed) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Swift Dzire / Honda Amaze | Rs 5,400 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 10,800 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 18,000 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Honda City / Hyundai Verna | Rs 7,200 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 14,400 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 24,000 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Maruti Ertiga / Kia Carens | Rs 6,300 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 12,600 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 21,000 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Innova Crysta / Hycross | Rs 8,550 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 17,100 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 28,500 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Toyota Fortuner | Rs 13,620 Pay Now to Reserve (minimum fare applies) | Rs 25,200 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 42,000 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Tempo Traveller (12-17 seat) | Rs 11,790 Pay Now to Reserve (minimum fare applies) | Rs 23,400 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 39,000 Pay Now to Reserve |
Why the two-day column jumps to 500 km: on round trips we bill a minimum of 250 km for each calendar day the car is with you, because the car and chauffeur cannot take another booking while they wait in Pune. If you drive more than that, the higher figure applies. On a two-day trip add a driver night allowance of Rs 1,500 depending on the car. Every quote is before 5% GST, and the booker shows the exact figure for your pickup and drop addresses before you confirm.

The road: Mumbai-Pune Expressway and the Bhor Ghat
Your chauffeur will almost always take the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, the six-lane, access-controlled road that opened in the early 2000s and cut the old journey on the Bombay-Poona highway roughly in half. From South Mumbai the car first works up the Eastern Freeway or the Sion-Panvel Highway to Vashi and Panvel; from the western suburbs it crosses via the Santacruz-Chembur Link Road or the Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road. The expressway proper begins near Kalamboli, runs past Khalapur, climbs the Bhor Ghat to Lonavala and Khandala, then rolls down the Deccan plateau to Talegaon, Somatne and Kiwale, where it joins the Pune bypass.
Two things shape the drive. First, the ghat. The climb between Khopoli and Khandala is steep, curving and often slow when heavy trucks crawl in the left lanes; a good chauffeur keeps the car in the correct lane, does not weave, and respects the speed limits that the Highway Police enforce with cameras along the route. Second, the city ends. Most of the three hours is spent getting out of Mumbai and into Pune, not on the expressway itself. Leave Colaba at 8.30 am on a weekday and the first hour can go on reaching Vashi.
If the expressway is closed for a ghat block (the authorities occasionally halt traffic for short periods to install gantries or clear rockfall), the chauffeur can use the old NH48 through Khopoli and Lonavala town. It is slower but scenic, and it passes the chikki shops that Lonavala is famous for.
Toll plazas and what you pay on the way
There are two main toll plazas on the expressway, near Khalapur on the Mumbai side and near Talegaon on the Pune side, plus smaller city tolls such as the Vashi creek bridge entry if your route uses it. Toll rates are revised periodically by the state, so we do not print a fixed figure. They are charged at actual: the car pays through FASTag, and the amount appears on your invoice line by line. Parking at Pune airport, malls or hotels is also passed on at actual cost. There is no interstate permit on this route because both cities are in Maharashtra, which keeps the add-ons simple compared with drives that cross a state border.
For road and toll policy the national reference is the National Highways Authority of India, though this particular expressway is a state project; for sightseeing ideas along the ghats, Maharashtra Tourism lists Lonavala, Karla caves and the forts of the Sahyadri.

Best time to leave Mumbai
Timing matters more than the car you choose. From what our chauffeurs see week after week:
- Weekday early start (5.30 to 7 am): the easiest window. You clear the city before office traffic builds and reach Pune by 9 or 9.30 am, in time for a morning meeting in Hinjewadi or Kharadi.
- Weekday late morning (10.30 am to 1 pm): the second-best slot. Traffic out of Mumbai has eased and Pune's lunch hour is manageable.
- Friday evening and Saturday morning: avoid if you can. The ghat fills with weekend traffic heading for Lonavala, and the approach to the Khalapur toll can queue.
- Sunday evening, Pune to Mumbai: the busiest direction of the week. If you book a return, try to leave Pune before 3 pm or after 9 pm.
- Monsoon (June to September): the ghat is at its most beautiful, with waterfalls beside the road, but fog and rain slow everything down. Budget an extra 45 minutes and let the chauffeur set the pace.
Festival weekends are their own category. Ganeshotsav in August or September brings heavy traffic into Pune's old city, and the long Diwali weekend empties Mumbai towards the hills. Book two or three days ahead for these dates so that a car is held for you.
Stops along the way
The expressway is designed for speed, so there are fewer roadside stops than on older highways, but the ones that exist are good:
- Food Mall near Khalapur: the standard halt, with clean washrooms, vada pav, south Indian breakfasts and coffee, just before the ghat climb.
- Lonavala and Khandala: take the exit for chikki and fudge, the viewpoints at Tiger's Leap and Duke's Nose, or a short monsoon walk to Bhushi Dam. A detour adds roughly an hour.
- Karla and Bhaja caves: ancient Buddhist rock-cut caves a few kilometres off the old highway near Malavli, worth it if you have a free afternoon.
- Kamshet: known for paragliding in the dry season; a longer detour for adventure groups in a Tempo Traveller.
A short stop does not change a one-way fare. A long sightseeing day is better booked as a round trip or as a local package once you arrive; ask the desk and we will price it both ways.

Pickup areas in Mumbai and drop areas in Pune
We pick up anywhere in Greater Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai. The common starting points are South Mumbai (Colaba, Nariman Point, Fort, Malabar Hill), the business districts of BKC, Lower Parel and Worli, the western suburbs from Bandra to Borivali, Powai and Andheri East, and Thane, Vashi, Belapur and Kharghar. Starting from Navi Mumbai or Panvel shaves 30 to 60 minutes off the drive because the car is already at the mouth of the expressway.
Airport pickups: a very common booking is straight from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport to a Pune hotel. The chauffeur tracks your flight, waits with a name board, and gives you 60 minutes free after an international arrival and 30 minutes after a domestic one; waiting beyond that is billed at the hourly rate. Our Mumbai airport taxi page explains terminal meeting points in detail.
At the Pune end we drop to any address: Pune airport at Lohegaon, Viman Nagar and Kalyani Nagar, Koregaon Park, Camp and Shivajinagar, the IT parks of Hinjewadi, Baner, Wakad, Magarpatta and Kharadi, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and the colleges around Karve Road and Kothrud. Hinjewadi, on the western edge of the city, is typically the quickest drop because it sits near the expressway's end at the bypass.
Same-day return and multi-stop plans
Many bookings are business trips: out in the morning, a meeting or a site visit, back the same evening. A same-day return in a sedan is billed on 300 km, which is Rs 10,800 Pay Now to Reserve before GST, and the chauffeur stays with the car in Pune. If your day in Pune will run past about 12 hours, tell us at booking; a driver's working day is capped for safety and an overnight may be cheaper than a very long single day.
Other patterns we arrange regularly:
- Mumbai to Pune one way, then local hire: drop at the hotel, then use an 8 hr / 80 km local car in Pune for meetings the next day.
- Pune plus Shirdi or Nashik: a three-city loop works well over two or three days. See the Mumbai to Shirdi taxi and Mumbai to Nashik taxi routes for distances.
- Return leg only: if someone else drives you to Pune, book the Pune to Mumbai taxi for the way back.
- Groups and families: 10 or more people with luggage travel more comfortably in a Tempo Traveller from Mumbai than in two cars, and the per-head cost is usually lower.
Who books this route, and which car to choose
The sedan is the sensible choice for one to three people with normal luggage; Swift Dzire and Honda Amaze have space for two large suitcases. Students moving to college in Pune with trunks and bags, or families of five, should take an Ertiga or an Innova Crysta. For client pickups or a senior executive, a Honda City or a Toyota Fortuner reads better at the hotel porch, and the Fortuner's high seating is appreciated on the ghat. Wedding parties shuttling guests between a Mumbai hotel and a Pune venue can combine sedans with a Tempo Traveller or a mini coach.
NRIs flying into Mumbai and heading home to Pune often book the airport pickup months ahead; the fare is fixed at booking and GST invoices are issued in the traveller's or company's name. Corporates can pay on account with monthly billing; individuals pay by card or UPI through the booker.
How much is a Mumbai to Pune taxi in 2026?
The first table on this page covers the six cars most people book. This one lists every class we run on the corridor, including the luxury cars and the group vehicles, with the per-km rate so you can see how each figure is built. Fares were updated in September 2026 and are the same on weekdays, weekends and festival dates.
| Vehicle class | Per km | One way (150 km) | Same-day return (300 km) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Compact sedan (Dzire, Amaze, Aura) | Rs 36 | Rs 5,400 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 10,800 Pay Now to Reserve |
| MUV (Ertiga, Carens) | Rs 42 | Rs 6,300 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 12,600 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Premium sedan (City, Verna, Camry) | Rs 48 | Rs 7,200 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 14,400 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Innova Crysta / Hycross | Rs 57.6 | Rs 8,550 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 17,100 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Tempo Traveller (12-17 seat) | Rs 78 | Rs 11,790 Pay Now to Reserve (minimum fare applies) | Rs 23,400 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Premium SUV (Fortuner, Gloster) | Rs 84 | Rs 13,620 Pay Now to Reserve (minimum fare applies) | Rs 25,200 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Force Urbania | Rs 102 | Rs 16,320 Pay Now to Reserve (minimum fare applies) | Rs 30,600 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Mini bus (20-35 seat) | Rs 130 | Rs 25,410 Pay Now to Reserve (minimum fare applies) | Rs 40,500 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Mercedes E-Class / BMW 5 Series | Rs 170 | Rs 24,750 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 49,500 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Luxury coach (35-45 seat) | Rs 210 | Rs 43,560 Pay Now to Reserve (minimum fare applies) | Rs 63,000 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Toyota Vellfire / Carnival Limousine | Rs 210 | Rs 32,670 Pay Now to Reserve (minimum fare applies) | Rs 63,000 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Luxury SUV (GLS, X7, Q7, Range Rover) | Rs 230 | Rs 34,500 Pay Now to Reserve (minimum fare applies) | Rs 67,500 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Mercedes S-Class / BMW 7 Series | Rs 330 | Rs 58,080 Pay Now to Reserve (minimum fare applies) | Rs 99,000 Pay Now to Reserve |
Rolls-Royce, Bentley and Maybach are quoted on request. Every figure is before 5% GST. A same-day return is billed on 300 km because the actual round trip is longer than the 250 km one-day minimum; if you drive a lot around Pune and the odometer passes 300 km, the extra kilometres are billed at the same per-km rate.
A worked example
Four colleagues from a BKC office need to reach a client in Hinjewadi by 11 am and return the same evening. An Innova Crysta on rent for the day is Rs 17,100 Pay Now to Reserve; 5% GST adds Rs 850, and tolls at the two expressway plazas in each direction are added at actual from the FASTag statement. Split four ways, the car costs well under Rs 4,800 a head before tolls, with door-to-door pickup and a chauffeur waiting through the meeting.
Distance, time and toll plazas, stretch by stretch
This breakdown assumes a pickup in Bandra and a drop in central Pune. Times are typical for a mid-morning weekday; toll plaza locations are as commonly known and every toll is paid by FASTag and charged at actual.
| Stretch | About | Typical time | Toll plaza on the stretch |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bandra to Vashi (via Sion or Chembur) | 25 km | 45-60 min | Vashi creek bridge toll, if routed this way |
| Vashi to Kalamboli (Sion-Panvel Highway) | 15 km | 20 min | Kharghar plaza on the highway |
| Kalamboli to Khalapur (expressway) | 30 km | 25 min | Khalapur plaza |
| Khalapur to Lonavala (Bhor Ghat climb) | 25 km | 25-35 min | none |
| Lonavala to Talegaon | 30 km | 25 min | Talegaon plaza |
| Talegaon to Shivajinagar (Pune bypass and city) | 25 km | 35-50 min | none |
| Total | about 150 km | about 3 hrs |
From Colaba, Nariman Point or Worli, the chauffeur may instead cross the harbour on the Atal Setu (Mumbai Trans Harbour Link) from Sewri to Chirle, which skips the Vashi approach and can save a good part of an hour at busy times. It is a tolled bridge, so the toll appears on the invoice like any other. Your chauffeur decides between the two approaches on the morning of travel, and the fare does not change because it is based on the route distance.
FASTag balances and toll receipts can be checked by the vehicle owner on the national FASTag system run by Indian Highways Management Company; we attach the deductions to your invoice so you do not need to.
Train, bus, self-drive or a chauffeur-driven cab?
Mumbai and Pune are well connected by every mode, and a taxi is not always the right answer. Here is an honest comparison.
| Option | Door to door? | Typical journey | Luggage | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Train (Deccan Queen, Intercity, Pragati) | No: station to station | About 3 to 3.5 hrs plus transfers | Limited to what you can carry | Solo travellers near CSMT, Dadar or Pune Junction |
| Bus (MSRTC Shivneri and private coaches) | No: depot or pickup point | About 3.5 to 4 hrs plus transfers | Boot space, but handled by you | Budget solo trips |
| Self-drive rental | Yes | About 3 hrs, you drive the ghat | Depends on car | Confident drivers who want the car for days |
| Chauffeur-driven cab (RutzIndia.com) | Yes | About 3 hrs, you rest or work | Boot plus cabin | Families, airport pickups, business trips |
The famous Deccan Queen is a lovely way to travel if you live near the line, and train timings can be checked on the Indian Railways national train enquiry system. The catch is the first and last mile: getting a family with suitcases to CSMT at 5 pm, and then finding transport from Pune station to Baner or Wakad, can take as long as the train itself. MSRTC's Shivneri coaches leave frequently from Dadar, Thane and other points and are good value for one person with a backpack.
Self-drive rentals make sense if you need a car for several days in Pune, but you drive the Bhor Ghat in monsoon fog yourself, manage fuel, tolls and parking, and usually leave a security deposit. With a chauffeur, the car arrives at your gate, you can work on the laptop or sleep, and the only extras are tolls and parking at actual. For three or more people, a sedan or Innova is also often cheaper per head than individual train or bus tickets plus taxis at both ends.
Pickup variants: airport, stations and hotel districts
The per-km fare is the same wherever you start, but where you start changes how long the trip takes and where the chauffeur meets you.
| Pickup point | Where the chauffeur meets you | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| CSMIA Terminal 2 (international and most domestic) | Arrivals, with a name board, after tracking your flight | 60 min free after international, 30 after domestic |
| CSMIA Terminal 1 (domestic) | Outside arrivals at the designated pickup lane | Share your terminal when booking |
| Navi Mumbai International Airport | Arrivals kerb | Already on the Panvel side, the quickest start for Pune |
| CSMT, Dadar, LTT or Bandra Terminus stations | Main exit or the taxi bay nearest your coach | Send the coach number so the chauffeur waits at the right exit |
| South Mumbai hotels (Colaba, Nariman Point, Marine Drive) | Hotel porch | The Atal Setu route often saves time |
| BKC, Lower Parel, Worli offices | Building lobby or visitor bay | Security passes are your office's arrangement |
| Juhu, Andheri East and Powai hotels | Hotel porch | Leave early to beat the western suburbs' office traffic |
| Thane, Vashi, Belapur, Kharghar | Your home or society gate | 30 to 60 minutes quicker than a South Mumbai start |
At the Pune end, besides homes and offices, the common drops are Pune Junction and Shivajinagar railway stations, Pune airport at Lohegaon, the hotel belts of Koregaon Park and Kalyani Nagar, and the IT parks at Hinjewadi, Kharadi and Magarpatta. The Pune district administration site is a useful reference for the city's offices and visitor information.
Sightseeing add-ons in and around Pune
Many travellers keep a car for a day after arriving. Pune local packages use the city's standard rates, as listed on our Pune taxi service page.
| Package in Pune | Compact sedan | Innova Crysta | Tempo Traveller |
|---|---|---|---|
| 4 hr / 40 km city hire | Rs 4,320 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 7,560 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 11,700 Pay Now to Reserve |
| 8 hr / 80 km full day | Rs 7,200 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 12,600 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 19,500 Pay Now to Reserve |
Ideas that fit inside those packages:
- Old Pune in half a day: Shaniwar Wada, the Lal Mahal, Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati and Tulshibaug market, all within a few kilometres of each other in the Peth areas. Parking is tight, so the chauffeur drops you and circles.
- Aga Khan Palace and Osho Garden: the palace where Mahatma Gandhi and Kasturba were interned during the Quit India movement, followed by the green lanes of Koregaon Park.
- Sinhagad Fort and Khadakwasla: the hill fort of Sinhagad sits roughly 35 km south-west of the city; go early for the climb and the famous pithla-bhakri at the top, then stop at the dam on the way back. A full-day package covers it comfortably.
- Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga: about 110 km from Pune in the Sahyadri forests. A return day trip is billed as an outstation round trip at the 250 km daily minimum: Rs 9,000 Pay Now to Reserve by sedan or Rs 14,250 Pay Now to Reserve by Innova before GST.
On the way up from Mumbai you can also build in Lonavala, the Karla caves or Bhaja; tell us at booking so we can plan the day and quote it as a round trip if the stop is long.
What the fare includes and what it does not
| Item | One-way drop | Round trip |
|---|---|---|
| Car, fuel and chauffeur | Included | Included |
| Chauffeur's empty return to Mumbai | Included, not charged to you | Not applicable |
| 5% GST | Added on the invoice | Added on the invoice |
| Expressway, bridge and city tolls | At actual | At actual |
| Parking at airports, malls and hotels | At actual | At actual |
| Interstate permit | Not applicable (both in Maharashtra) | Not applicable |
| Driver night allowance | Not applicable | Rs 1,500 per night on multi-day trips |
| Kilometres beyond the billed distance | Not applicable | Billed at the car's per-km rate |
| Airport waiting beyond free minutes | Billed hourly | Billed hourly |
That is the full list. There is no surge multiplier, no night surcharge on a one-way transfer and no fuel adjustment added after the trip. How every fare is built is explained on the fares page, and seat counts and luggage space for each class are on the fleet page.
