For many Mumbai families, the trip to Shirdi is a promise kept: a visit on a Thursday, on a birthday, after an exam result or a recovery. A Mumbai to Shirdi taxi lets the whole family travel together, leave at an hour that suits the darshan queue rather than the train timetable, and come home without hunting for transport in a crowded pilgrim town. RutzIndia.com books the car online, shows the fare upfront and sends a chauffeur who has done the Shirdi run many times.
Mumbai to Shirdi cab fare
A Mumbai to Shirdi one way taxi costs Rs 8,640 Pay Now to Reserve by compact sedan, for about 240 km at Rs 36/km, or Rs 13,680 Pay Now to Reserve by Innova Crysta. A two-day return with an overnight in Shirdi is billed on 500 km: Rs 18,000 Pay Now to Reserve by sedan, plus a Rs 1,500 Pay Now to Reserve night allowance. Prices exclude 5% GST; tolls are at actual.
Most pilgrims book a return, and the key choice is whether to come back the same day. A same-day round trip is billed on 480 km, but it means around ten hours of driving plus the temple queue, which is a lot for elderly travellers and for the chauffeur. Staying one night is billed on 500 km, only a little more, and makes the visit calmer.
| Car | One way (240 km) | Same-day return (480 km) | 2 days with overnight (500 km) | 3 days incl. Shani Shingnapur & Nashik (750 km) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Compact sedan | Rs 8,640 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 17,280 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 18,000 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 27,000 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Premium sedan | Rs 11,520 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 23,040 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 24,000 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 36,000 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Ertiga / Carens | Rs 10,080 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 20,160 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 21,000 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 31,500 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Innova Crysta | Rs 13,680 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 27,360 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 28,500 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 42,750 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Tempo Traveller | Rs 18,720 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 37,440 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 39,000 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 58,500 Pay Now to Reserve |
The three-day column applies the 250 km per day minimum, which comfortably covers Shirdi, the side trip to Shani Shingnapur and a stop at Trimbakeshwar or Nashik on the way home. Add night allowances for two nights. None of our prices rise on Thursdays or festival days.
Book a Shirdi taxi from Mumbai

Two ways to drive from Mumbai to Shirdi
Samruddhi Mahamarg. The Samruddhi Mahamarg, the Mumbai-Nagpur expressway, has an interchange for Shirdi. From the Thane side, the chauffeur joins it and runs on an access-controlled road through the Sahyadri with tunnels and long viaducts, then exits for Shirdi. Where it is open end to end from your side of the city, it is the smoother and often faster option, with fewer towns and trucks.
The Nashik highway via Kasara ghat. The traditional route takes the Mumbai-Nashik highway through Bhiwandi and Shahapur, climbs the Kasara (Thal) ghat to Igatpuri, passes Nashik's outskirts and then turns east through Sinnar to Shirdi. It is busier, but it has more food stops and lets you visit Nashik or Trimbakeshwar on the way.
The chauffeur picks the route on the day based on your pickup point and traffic. The fare is the same either way, because we charge on the route distance, not on the road chosen. Tolls vary a little between the two and are charged at actual by FASTag, itemised on the invoice. Mumbai and Shirdi are both in Maharashtra, so no interstate permit or border tax applies.
Timing your departure around darshan
Shirdi runs on the temple's daily schedule, which begins with the early Kakad Aarti and closes with the Shej Aarti at night, with the noon and evening aartis in between. Exact timings, darshan pass options and rules are published by the Shri Saibaba Sansthan Trust, which manages the Samadhi Mandir, and many devotees book darshan or aarti passes online before they travel.
Common plans:
- Leave Mumbai around 2 to 3 am: reach Shirdi before dawn for the Kakad Aarti or an early darshan, finish by mid-morning, and be back in Mumbai by evening. This is the classic same-day plan, but it is tiring.
- Leave around 6 am: reach Shirdi by about 11 am to noon, check in, attend the evening aarti, take darshan early next morning when queues are shorter, and drive home.
- Leave after work on Friday: reach late at night, sleep, and spend Saturday at the temple and Shani Shingnapur. Return on Sunday.
Thursdays are the busiest day of the week in Shirdi. Ram Navami, Guru Purnima and Vijayadashami, when Sai Baba's Punyatithi is observed, draw very large crowds, as do Diwali holidays and school vacations. Book several days ahead for these dates.

Stops and side trips on the way
- Kasara ghat and Igatpuri: misty viewpoints during the monsoon, and the Vipassana centre at Igatpuri for those who know it.
- Nashik: grape country and the Godavari's Ramkund ghat; see the Mumbai to Nashik taxi for a standalone trip.
- Trimbakeshwar: one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, about 30 km beyond Nashik. Many families combine it with Shirdi over two days.
- Sinnar: the old Gondeshwar temple and a good tea stop before the final stretch.
- Shani Shingnapur: about 70 km from Shirdi, famous for the open-air shrine of Lord Shani and the village of houses without doors. It is the most requested add-on and fits easily into a two-day plan.
Food on the Nashik highway is plentiful, from misal pav in Nashik to simple thali restaurants near Sinnar. On the expressway, stops are at the official wayside amenities.
Pickup across Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai
We collect from any address in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. Thane, Mulund, Ghatkopar, Kalyan and Dombivli are closest to both routes and save an hour against a pickup in Colaba or Bandra. Navi Mumbai and Panvel pickups work well too. For South Mumbai and the western suburbs, the chauffeur uses the Eastern Freeway or the Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road to get across the city before dawn.
From the airport: devotees flying in from abroad or other cities often head straight to Shirdi from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. The chauffeur tracks the flight and waits with a name board; international arrivals have 60 minutes free, domestic arrivals 30, and waiting after that is billed hourly. Details are on the Mumbai airport taxi page.

Drop and parking in Shirdi
Shirdi is a small town that swells with visitors. Your chauffeur drops you as close to the temple gates as police barricades allow, then parks in the designated parking and waits. Hotels and the Sansthan's accommodation complexes are all within a short drive of the temple. Parking fees are charged at actual. If you are flying onward, Shirdi also has its own airport a short drive from town.
A relaxed two-day Shirdi plan
This is the itinerary our desk suggests most often to families who want the visit to feel unhurried. It fits inside the 500 km two-day billing.
Day 1
- 6.00 am: pickup from Thane or central Mumbai. Breakfast halt after the ghat at Igatpuri or at an expressway amenity.
- 11.00 am: arrive in Shirdi, check in and rest through the midday heat.
- 4.00 pm: visit Dwarkamai, Chavadi and Gurusthan, the places associated with Sai Baba's life, all within walking distance of the Samadhi Mandir.
- Evening: attend the Dhoop Aarti if you hold a pass, or simply sit in the temple complex. Dinner at the Sansthan's prasadalaya or a hotel.
Day 2
- Early morning: darshan while queues are at their shortest.
- 9.00 am: drive to Shani Shingnapur, about 70 km, for the open-air shrine.
- 1.00 pm: lunch on the way back towards Sinnar.
- 2.00 pm: head home to Mumbai, arriving in the evening before the Sunday rush builds on the Thane approach.
If you would rather include Trimbakeshwar, swap Shani Shingnapur for the Nashik side on day 2, or extend to three days. For a drop-only trip where you will make your own way back, the national one-way taxi page explains how single-direction fares work, and pilgrims continuing to Pune afterwards can use the reverse of our Mumbai to Pune taxi corridor.

Worked example: a building society's darshan trip
Fifteen members of a Ghatkopar housing society plan a Saturday-Sunday visit with an overnight in Shirdi. A Force Urbania seats them with room for overnight bags and the two days come to Rs 51,000 Pay Now to Reserve, being 500 km at Rs 102 a kilometre. Add 5% GST of Rs 2,550, one night allowance and the tolls and Shirdi parking at actual. Before tolls, that works out to about Rs 3,570 per person for a private, door-to-door trip. For 25 or more, a mini bus on rent at Rs 67,500 Pay Now to Reserve for the same two days is the better fit.
Distance, time and toll points on the Nashik highway route
This breakdown follows the traditional route from Sion. Distances are approximate and times are typical for a pre-dawn start. Toll point locations are as commonly known and may shift as the highway is upgraded; all tolls are paid by FASTag and billed at actual.
| Section | Approx. km | Usual time | Where tolls are collected |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sion to Thane (Eastern Express Highway) | 20 km | 30-40 min | none in the city |
| Thane to Shahapur (via Bhiwandi bypass) | 45 km | 50 min | plaza near Padgha |
| Shahapur to Igatpuri (Kasara ghat) | 40 km | 45 min | plaza near Ghoti, beyond Igatpuri |
| Igatpuri to the Nashik outskirts | 45 km | 45 min | none |
| Nashik to Sinnar | 30 km | 35 min | plaza near Shinde |
| Sinnar to Shirdi | 60 km | 60 min | a plaza on the four-laned Sinnar-Shirdi road |
| Total | about 240 km | about 5 hrs |
On the Samruddhi Mahamarg the toll works differently: you pay for the distance between the interchange where you join and the one where you leave, recorded by FASTag. Either way, the amount appears on your invoice line by line, and the booker quotes the same distance fare whichever road the chauffeur chooses.
Vande Bharat, flight, bus, self-drive or a private cab?
| Mode | Starts at your door? | Time taken | Suits | Catch |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Vande Bharat to Sainagar Shirdi | No: station to station | Around 5 to 6 hrs from CSMT | Solo devotees near CSMT or Dadar | The station is a short drive from the temple |
| Flight to Shirdi Airport | No: airport to airport | Short flight plus airport time | Travellers flying in from other cities | Limited daily flights, a drive into town |
| MSRTC or private bus | No: depot to bus stand | About 6-7 hrs | Budget solo trips | Crowded on Thursdays and festivals |
| Self-drive hire | From the rental hub | Roughly 5 hrs at the wheel yourself | Drivers wanting the car for several days | Night driving and ghat fog |
| Private cab with driver (RutzIndia.com) | From your own gate | Roughly 5 hrs, you sleep or pray | Families, elderly devotees, groups | Book early for festivals |
The Vande Bharat that runs from Mumbai to Sainagar Shirdi railway station has made the train a genuine option, and running days are listed on the Indian Railways enquiry site. Shirdi Airport, at Kakadi, has scheduled flights from some cities. For a family with elderly parents, a 2 am departure by car is often gentler than a station transfer, a train journey and a second transfer at the other end, and the car stays with you for Shani Shingnapur or Trimbakeshwar. Self-driving the Kasara ghat in the dark after a working day is the option we would least recommend.

Sightseeing add-ons from Shirdi
Most devotees combine Shirdi with one or two other shrines. On a one-way booking, add-on kilometres are priced at the car's per-km rate; on a two-day or three-day return they usually fit inside the billed distance.
| Add-on from Shirdi | Roughly | Sedan | Innova Crysta | Tempo Traveller |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Shani Shingnapur and back | 140 km | Rs 5,040 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 7,980 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 10,920 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Trimbakeshwar via Nashik on the way home | detour of a few hours | on the route | on the route | on the route |
| Ellora caves and Grishneshwar | roughly 100 km each way | quoted on request | quoted on request | quoted on request |
- Shani Shingnapur: the open-air shrine of Lord Shani, where Saturdays and Shani Amavasya draw the largest crowds. The temple trust's own site, shanidev.com, has visiting information.
- Trimbakeshwar: the Jyotirlinga at the source of the Godavari, near Nashik. Best visited on the drive home to Mumbai.
- Sakori: the ashram associated with Upasni Maharaj, a few kilometres from Shirdi.
- Ellora and Grishneshwar: the rock-cut caves and the nearby Jyotirlinga, a long day trip that works better as part of a three-day plan.

What a 2 am departure actually looks like
The pre-dawn start is the most requested Shirdi plan, and it helps to know how the night unfolds.
- The evening before: the chauffeur's name and car number reach you by message. Keep darshan passes, ID and a light shawl in a small bag rather than the boot.
- Around 1.45 am: the chauffeur calls from the gate. Elderly passengers settle in the middle row with a pillow; children can sleep across the back.
- 2 am to 4.30 am: the city is empty, so the run through Thane and up the Kasara ghat is quick. The chauffeur drives the ghat at a steady pace, especially if there is monsoon mist.
- Around 4.30 am: a short tea stop at Igatpuri or near Nashik for everyone, including the chauffeur.
- Around 7 am: arrival in Shirdi. The car is parked in the designated area and you walk to the temple.
- After darshan: breakfast, a visit to Dwarkamai and Chavadi, and on a same-day plan the chauffeur rests while you are at the temple before the drive home.
If the family includes someone who cannot sleep in a moving car, the 6 am departure and overnight plan described earlier on this page is far kinder.
Temple-day practicalities
A little preparation saves time at the Samadhi Mandir:
- Dress: modest clothing that covers shoulders and knees is appropriate for a temple visit.
- Footwear, bags and phones: shoes are left at the footwear counters before entering. The Sansthan sets its own rules on phones, cameras and bags inside the temple; check its site before travelling and leave anything not allowed in the locked car with the chauffeur.
- Prasad and offerings: flower and prasad stalls line the approach roads; the chauffeur can point you to where you can park briefly to collect boxes on the way out.
- Water and snacks: queues can be long, so eat before joining one and carry water, especially from April to June when afternoons are very hot.
Monsoon and the Kasara ghat
From June to September, the Kasara ghat between Shahapur and Igatpuri is at its greenest, with waterfalls beside the road, but it is also foggy and slippery. Weekend crowds heading for the Igatpuri waterfalls add traffic. Our chauffeurs drive the ghat with headlights on and at moderate speed, and if heavy rain causes a landslip or a police closure they switch to the Samruddhi Mahamarg where possible. Allow an extra hour in the monsoon, and remember that none of this changes your distance-based fare.
Timing the drive home
The return leg is where most Shirdi trips lose time. Sunday evening traffic builds on the Nashik highway from about 4 pm as weekend visitors to Igatpuri, Nashik and Shirdi all head back, and the approach through Bhiwandi and Thane can crawl after dark. Leaving Shirdi by 11 am on a Sunday, or after an early dinner at about 8 pm, usually brings you home far faster. On weekdays the highway is freer, and a mid-afternoon start reaches central Mumbai by late evening. Tell the chauffeur your preferred time the night before so the rest break can be planned around it.
Group and family travel
Shirdi trips are often multi-generational. For five or six people, an Innova Crysta gives grandparents easy step-in seats and space for the prasad boxes on the way home. An Ertiga is a sensible budget option for smaller families. Societies, office groups and mandals travelling together book a Tempo Traveller from Mumbai or a Force Urbania, which has more headroom and a smoother ride for a long night drive. Larger groups can ask about a mini bus on the pilgrimage taxi page.
If your group is starting from Pune instead, the Pune to Shirdi taxi covers about 185 km through Ahmednagar.
Safety on an overnight pilgrimage
Night departures are common on this route, so we take a few extra precautions. Chauffeurs are rested before a 2 am start and do not drive the same car back without a proper break. On a same-day plan with a very early start, the return leg may begin only after the chauffeur has rested for a few hours in Shirdi while you are at the temple. Ghat sections are driven at moderate speed, particularly in monsoon fog. Every car on this route is within four model years of manufacture and is serviced regularly.
Booking, payment and cancellation
Use the online booker to choose one way or return, the car and the pickup time. The fare, with 5% GST on a separate line, is confirmed before you pay by card or UPI; corporates and trusts can receive a GST invoice. The price covers the car, chauffeur and fuel. Tolls, parking and the night allowance on overnight trips are added at actual. Darshan passes, hotel rooms and offerings are your own arrangement; our desk can suggest how to book them.
Change of plans? Cancellation is free until 72 hours before pickup. Within 72 hours we retain 10% of the fare, within 48 hours 50%, and within 24 hours or on a no-show 100%. See the cancellation policy for full terms. The routes hub lists every other intercity fare from Mumbai.
