A one way drop taxi takes you from one city to another and ends the booking there. You do not pay for the car's journey home, and you do not pay a daily minimum. For a student moving to Pune, a family heading from Delhi to a wedding in Jaipur, a pilgrim going up to Katra, or a traveller catching a flight from a different city, the one way taxi is almost always the cheapest comfortable option. RutzIndia.com runs one way cabs on the busiest intercity corridors in India at a fixed fare per kilometre, with the price confirmed before you pay.
What does a one way drop taxi cost?
A one way taxi costs Rs 36 per km in a sedan and Rs 57.6 per km in an Innova Crysta, charged only for the distance you travel, with a minimum fare on short drops. Mumbai to Pune is Rs 5,400 Pay Now to Reserve, Delhi to Jaipur Rs 10,080 Pay Now to Reserve and Jammu to Katra Rs 3,960 Pay Now to Reserve in a sedan, before 5% GST, tolls and parking.

One way fare per km by class
Every one way cab is priced the same way: road distance times the class rate, with no return charge and no daily minimum. Three distance bands show what that means for typical short, medium and long drops.
| Car class | Per km | 150 km drop | 300 km drop | 500 km drop |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Compact sedan | Rs 36 | Rs 5,400 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 10,800 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 18,000 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Ertiga | Rs 42 | Rs 6,300 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 12,600 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 21,000 Pay Now to Reserve |

A 150 km drop is roughly Mumbai to Pune or Chennai to Pondicherry; 300 km is close to Delhi to Mussoorie; 500 km is in the range of Delhi to Manali. All figures are before 5% GST, with tolls, border fees and parking added as paid.

How we can charge only one side
A traditional outstation quote builds in the car's empty journey home. Ours does not, and the reason is matching: on busy corridors such as Mumbai-Pune, Delhi-Jaipur or Bangalore-Mysore, there is steady demand in both directions, so a car that drops you in Pune is usually booked back to Mumbai the same day. That is why the fares in the route table are simply distance times rate.
On thinner routes, for example a drop into a small hill town or a remote pilgrimage site, the car may well come back empty. In those cases the quote may include positioning kilometres, and it will say so clearly before you pay. You will never discover a return charge on the final bill.
One way or round trip: the arithmetic
The saving is easiest to see on a real corridor. Take Delhi to Chandigarh, about 245 km:
- One way drop in a sedan: 245 km x Rs 36 = Rs 8,820 Pay Now to Reserve.
- Same-day round trip in a sedan: about 490 km x Rs 36 = Rs 17,640 Pay Now to Reserve, because the car and driver come back with you.
- Two-day round trip: the 250 km per day minimum makes it 500 km, so Rs 18,000 plus one driver night allowance.
If you are staying in Chandigarh for a few days, or flying out from there, the one way drop costs roughly half. If you need the car for local running on arrival, or to drive on to Shimla, a round trip or a multi-day outstation cab becomes better value. The desk will happily price both so you can compare.

One way cab, train, bus or self-drive?
For a family of four on a 280 km trip like Delhi to Jaipur, the options look like this. We only quote our own prices; for trains and buses, check the operator's current fare.
| Consideration | One way cab (sedan) | Train | Intercity bus | Self-drive rental |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cost for the group | Rs 10,080 Pay Now to Reserve before GST, about Rs 2,520 per head | Per ticket, varies by class | Per ticket | Rent plus fuel, tolls and deposit |
| Door to door | Yes, home to hotel | Station to station; add taxis at both ends | Bus stand to bus stand | Yes |
| Departure time | Whenever you choose | Fixed timetable | Fixed timetable | Whenever you choose |
| Luggage | Full boot, and an Innova if you have more | Limited by berth space | Limited by hold | Your car's boot |
| Stops on the way | As many as you like | None | Scheduled halts only | As many as you like |
| Who drives | Professional driver | Not applicable | Not applicable | You |
The cab's advantage grows with group size and luggage: split four ways, a sedan often costs little more than good train seats once the taxis at both stations are added, and an Innova for six is even more efficient. Trains win for solo travellers on long overnight routes; buses win on pure price. Self-drive suits confident drivers who want a car at the destination.
Drops to another city's airport
Many one way bookings end at a terminal. Travellers from Agra, Mathura and Vrindavan fly out of Delhi's IGI; Mysore residents use Bengaluru's Kempegowda airport; visitors to Pondicherry usually arrive and leave through Chennai; Pune travellers catch international flights from Mumbai; and Shimla holidaymakers often drive down to Chandigarh's airport. These drops are priced exactly like any other one way trip, by distance at the class rate, with airport parking or entry charges added at actual. Build in generous time: add your flight number so the desk can advise a departure time that allows for highway traffic, city congestion near the airport and check-in. For flights from your own city, the fixed-fare airport taxi is simpler.
Who uses one way cabs?
- Families shifting cities or visiting relatives, with more luggage than a train berth allows.
- Students and young professionals moving between Mumbai and Pune or Bangalore and Chennai at the start of term or a new job.
- Wedding guests going from Delhi to Jaipur, Agra or Chandigarh who will return with the family convoy or by train.
- Pilgrims heading to Haridwar, Rishikesh, Shirdi or Vaishno Devi, often returning by a different route; see our pilgrimage taxi page.
- Flyers catching a flight from a bigger airport, for example from Agra or Vrindavan to Delhi's IGI, where an airport taxi drop is the last leg.
- Tourists stitching together a trip by road one leg at a time, such as Agra to Jaipur and then Jaipur to Udaipur.
Which car for a one way drop?
The fare difference between cars is mostly the per-km rate, so choose by comfort and luggage:
- Sedan at Rs 36/km for up to four people with two suitcases and a couple of soft bags.
- Ertiga at Rs 42/km when you need six seats for a short, light-luggage run.
- Premium sedan at Rs 48/km for business travellers who want a quieter, roomier car on a five-hour drive.
- Innova Crysta on rent at Rs 57.6/km for families with real luggage or anyone who wants to stretch out on a long day such as Delhi to Manali.
- Tempo Traveller on rent at Rs 78/km for groups of eight to sixteen travelling together.
What is included in a one way fare
The fare covers the car (always within four model years of manufacture), fuel, the driver and the distance of the drop from your pickup address to your destination address. Pickup can be anywhere in the origin city, and drop anywhere in the destination city, including railway stations, hotels, hostels and airport terminals. A tea or meal break on the way is part of every trip. Beyond that:
- Tolls are debited by FASTag and billed as charged. You can look up toll plaza rates on the NHAI website.
- Interstate permits and entry fees, for example entering Himachal or Uttarakhand, are paid at the border and receipted.
- Parking at stations, airports and hotels is billed at actual.
- Detours and extra stops that add distance, such as a sightseeing halt off the highway, are added at the per-km rate, and waiting beyond a short break is charged as shown on your quote.
- 5% GST is added to the fare, and a GST invoice can be issued in your company's name.
Border fees on a one way drop
A one way cab that crosses into another state may meet a border charge once, on the way in. Taxis run on tourist permits, and under the All India Tourist Vehicles (Permit) Rules, 2023 the permit fee is paid centrally; the Centre has asked states not to add further taxes. Some states still collect: Himachal Pradesh operates entry tax barriers and is moving collection onto FASTag, as reported by The Tribune, and Uttarakhand has announced a green cess on outside vehicles collected the same way.
For you, the practical effect is small and transparent. If a fee is collected when your car enters the destination state, it appears on your bill at the exact amount, with the receipt or FASTag record. Anything the car pays on its empty return journey is our cost, never yours. And if a charge is not lawfully due under the car's permit, we do not pass it on. Drops that stay inside one state, such as Mumbai to Pune or Bangalore to Mysore, normally involve tolls only.
Highways worth knowing about
Several one way routes have become dramatically faster thanks to new access-controlled roads. The Mumbai-Pune Expressway turns a notoriously slow drive into about three hours. The Yamuna Expressway carries Delhi to Agra traffic past Greater Noida and Mathura. The Bengaluru-Mysuru highway cut the Mysore run to around three hours. National highway policy and new corridors are published by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. Our drivers use these roads by default and will mention any faster or toll-free alternative before the trip.
Corridor notes from our drivers
A few practical observations on the one way routes we run most often:
- Mumbai to Pune: the expressway climbs through the Lonavala and Khandala ghat, where weekend and holiday traffic can bunch up badly on Saturday mornings and Sunday evenings. Leaving before 7 am or after 8 pm usually saves an hour. In the monsoon the ghat is beautiful but misty, so our drivers slow down there.
- Delhi to Jaipur: NH 48 runs through Gurgaon and Manesar before opening up past Behror and Shahpura. The Gurgaon section is the bottleneck; a start by 6.30 am puts you in Jaipur by late morning. Pink City hotels in the old town have narrow approaches, so tell us the exact hotel for the drop.
- Bangalore to Chennai: the highway via Hosur, Krishnagiri and Vellore is a long, steady run of about six hours; Electronic City traffic on the way out is the main variable.
- Delhi to Haridwar and Rishikesh: during the Kanwar Yatra in the monsoon month of Sawan, typically July, parts of this route are diverted or closed to cars for several days. We check the dates each year and reschedule or re-route if needed.
- Jammu to Katra: most pilgrims arrive at Jammu by train or air and drop straight to Katra, the base for Vaishno Devi. It is a short run of about an hour and a half, and we time pickups around train arrivals.
- Mumbai to Goa: at around 11 hours this is the longest regular one way drive we run. We usually suggest an early start and a lunch halt on the coast, and in heavy monsoon weeks we may recommend splitting the drive.
Before your one way drop: a quick checklist
- Give both full addresses, not just city names. "Pune" could mean Hinjewadi or Camp, a difference of well over half an hour, and the quote is built on the real distance.
- Check your arrival against the hotel's check-in. A 6 am start from Mumbai puts you in Pune long before a 2 pm check-in; ask the hotel about early access or plan a breakfast stop.
- Count the bags honestly and mention anything unusual, such as a cycle, a guitar or a cooler box.
- List planned stops, including a second pickup on the way, so they are priced and timed.
- Keep ID handy. Gated societies, hotels and some border points ask for it.
- Share the booking with whoever is expecting you; the confirmation shows the car, registration and driver.
- Settle tolls on the final bill. You do not need cash for plazas, because FASTag handles them and the amounts appear itemised afterwards.
Most one way trips need nothing more than this, and the driver will call before arriving at your door.
Travelling back later by the same road? Book the return as a second one way drop once your dates are fixed; on busy corridors that is usually cheaper than keeping a car and driver waiting for you over several days.
How to book a one way taxi
- Enter pickup city, drop city, date and time in the booker, or WhatsApp the desk.
- Choose your car and see the fixed fare with GST shown separately.
- Pay by UPI or card to confirm.
- Receive the driver's name, contact and car registration before departure.
- Pay tolls, permits and parking at actual on the final bill.
Need to cancel? It is free more than 72 hours before pickup. Within 72 hours we charge 10%, within 48 hours 50%, and within 24 hours or on a no-show 100% of the fare. The full wording is on our cancellation policy page.
One way availability is tightest on Friday evenings out of the metros and Sunday evenings back into them, and during Diwali, Holi and the wedding season. Book two or three days ahead on those dates.
