Udaipur is a city you want to look at, not drive through. The lanes around the City Palace were built for horses and palanquins, parking by the lakes is scarce, and the best views come at sunrise and sunset when you would rather not be arguing over a fare. What does a taxi in Udaipur cost?

Fares are before 5% GST. Parking at the palaces and lakeside ghats, tolls and Rajasthan permits for out-of-state vehicles are charged at actual cost. On overnight trips the driver night allowance is Rs 1,500 per night, and round trips are billed on at least 250 km per calendar day. The national card is on our fares page.

Dabok airport and Udaipur City station transfers

Maharana Pratap Airport lies at Dabok, about 22 km east of the old city along NH48 and the Debari road. Most flights connect with Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Jaipur, and wedding season brings a lot of charter traffic. Your driver follows the flight, waits outside arrivals with a name board and allows 30 minutes of free waiting after domestic landings, or 60 minutes after an international arrival. After that, waiting is charged at the hourly rate.

Udaipur City railway station is in the south-east, near Hiran Magri. Trains from Delhi, Jaipur and Ahmedabad arrive early morning, and the station road is congested at those times.

Lake-city sightseeing by car: a one-day plan

Most visitors choose the 8 hour / 80 km package for Udaipur's sights, because the lakes and palaces are spread out and the day naturally splits into a morning in the old city and an evening at the hills. The Rajasthan Tourism page on Udaipur has opening times worth checking the day before.

1. 8:00 am, Jagdish Temple. The 17th-century temple is a short climb from the palace gates and quietest early.
2. 9:00 am, City Palace. Allow two to three hours for the museum courtyards and the views over Lake Pichola.
3. 12:00 pm, Boat on Lake Pichola. Boats leave from the palace side and circle Jag Mandir.
4. 1:30 pm, Lunch with a lake view. Lal Ghat and Gangaur Ghat have rooftop restaurants.
5. 3:00 pm, Saheliyon ki Bari and Fateh Sagar. The fountain garden, then a drive along the Fateh Sagar embankment.
6. 5:30 pm, Sajjangarh (Monsoon Palace). The hill fort about 8 km west is the classic sunset point; the last stretch uses a shuttle or permitted vehicles, and the driver waits below.
7. 7:00 pm, Bagore ki Haveli. The evening folk dance show at Gangaur Ghat before dinner.

Drivers drop and collect you at the edge of the pedestrian areas around the palace; bigger vehicles cannot enter every lane. With a larger family or a group of friends, book a tempo traveller in Udaipur and keep everyone together.

Day trips and outstation cabs from Udaipur

The Aravalli hills around Udaipur hide some of Rajasthan's finest forts and temples. Short trips are billed on the 250 km daily minimum for round trips; longer ones on actual kilometres. One-way drops are simply the distance times the rate. Full rules are on outstation cabs.

Worked example: Kumbhalgarh and Ranakpur in a day. The loop through the fort and the Jain temple adds up to roughly 250 km, so it is billed at the day minimum: Rs 9,000 Pay Now to Reserve in a sedan or Rs 14,250 Pay Now to Reserve in an Innova Crysta, before GST and parking. Leave at 7:30 am; Ranakpur's temple has fixed visiting hours for non-worshippers, and Kumbhalgarh's walls are best walked before the afternoon heat.

Worked example: Udaipur to Jaipur. A one-way cab covers about 395 km in six and a half hours: Rs 14,220 Pay Now to Reserve in a sedan or Rs 22,510 Pay Now to Reserve in an Innova. Destination weddings: moving guests around the lakes

Udaipur is one of India's busiest destination-wedding cities, and transport is what guests remember when it goes wrong. For a typical three-day wedding we plan:

• Airport and station arrivals with name boards and a guest list shared with every driver.
• Guest shuttles in tempo travellers or Innovas between hotels, the mehendi venue, the sangeet and the wedding lawns, often on the Badi road and around Udai Sagar.

Best time to visit, and the busy dates

• October to March is peak season: pleasant days, cool nights and the wedding calendar in full swing from November to February.
• Gangaur and the Mewar Festival (March-April). Processions to Gangaur Ghat close lanes in the old city for the evening.
• Holi. The Holika Dahan at the City Palace draws crowds; roads around the palace are restricted.
• Shilpgram Utsav (late December). The crafts fair at Shilpgram near Fateh Sagar brings heavy evening traffic on that side of town.
• Monsoon (July to September). The lakes fill, the Monsoon Palace lives up to its name, and hill roads to Kumbhalgarh are green but slippery. Drivers slow down on the ghats.
• Summer (April to June). Hot days; do sightseeing early and late.

Traffic advisories for festival days, VIP visits and road works are published by the district administration; the Udaipur district portal is a good place to check before a big event. On the busiest wedding weekends, hotel porches around Lake Pichola and Udai Sagar get crowded with guest vehicles, so drivers may ask you to walk a few metres to a marked pickup point; it keeps everyone moving and saves you waiting in the queue.

Udaipur cab fare per km by vehicle (2026)

Fares updated September 2026. Once your plan takes you beyond the lakes, the fare is calculated per kilometre according to the car. Rates stay the same in the wedding season; availability is what gets tight. The example columns show one-way costs to the temple town of Nathdwara, the fort at Kumbhalgarh and the desert city of Jaisalmer.

For one-way drops you pay only the one-way distance, subject to the minimum fare. For round trips, the bill uses the higher of actual kilometres or 250 km for each calendar day, and a driver night allowance of Rs 1,500 applies on nights away. A four-day loop from Udaipur to Jodhpur and Jaisalmer and back covers roughly 1,100 km, above the 1,000 km minimum, so an Innova Crysta costs about 1,100 x Rs 57.6 = Rs 62,700 Pay Now to Reserve before GST, tolls and three nights' allowance.

4, 8 and 12 hour taxi packages in Udaipur

Destination weddings are why the 12 hour / 120 km package exists in Udaipur. A car that starts with airport arrivals in the morning, runs the family to a mehendi at a lakeside lawn and finishes after the sangeet will often need twelve hours. We charge 150 per cent of that car's Udaipur 8 hour fare and add forty more kilometres at its outstation rate, then round to the nearest Rs 10; that is the whole calculation.

Prices exclude 5% GST. The package starts when the driver collects you and ends at your final drop. Railway station, bus stand and hotel jetty transfers

Rail and bus arrivals inside 40 km cost exactly what an airport pickup costs: a Dzire-class car Rs 3,960 Pay Now to Reserve, a six-seat Ertiga Rs 4,950 Pay Now to Reserve, an Innova Rs 6,930 Pay Now to Reserve.

Overnight trains from Delhi, Jaipur and Mumbai reach Udaipur City early in the morning. The approach road outside the station is narrow, so the driver may ask you to walk to the main road if autos block the entrance; it is a matter of a minute or two.

Longer drives from Udaipur

Beyond the Aravalli day trips, guests often ask about these longer drives. Sunrise, sunset and photography stops by car

Udaipur's light is the reason many people come, and a driver who knows where to be at the right minute makes a difference. For sunrise, the Ambrai ghat at Hanuman Ghat looks straight across Lake Pichola to the City Palace, and the Doodh Talai side catches the first light on the old city; both are best reached by 6 am in winter. For sunset, the Sajjangarh hill fort gives the widest view over the lakes and the Aravallis, while the Karni Mata temple hill above Doodh Talai offers a closer angle on the palace. Fateh Sagar is at its prettiest in the blue hour after sunset, when the Nehru Garden island is lit.
