A lake wedding's key day often runs from a morning haldi to a post-midnight after-party, which is why many families reserve the 12 hr / 120 km package for their main cars. Its price is the 8-hour fare times 1.5, plus 40 km charged at the model's per-km rate: Rs 62,850 Pay Now to Reserve for an executive saloon, Rs 89,400 Pay Now to Reserve for the Vellfire, Rs 94,500 Pay Now to Reserve for a Range Rover, GLS, X7 or Q7 and Rs 1,57,200 Pay Now to Reserve for a flagship S-Class or 7 Series. Why Udaipur weddings need careful car planning

The most famous venues are on or beside water: palace hotels on Lake Pichola, island pavilions reached only by boat, heritage properties on Fateh Sagar, and newer resorts on lakes and hilltops outside the city. A sample three-day car plan for an Udaipur wedding

Is a luxury car in Udaipur worth it?

Island and lakeside weddings in Udaipur depend on boats, gates and daylight, and the car plan has to fit them. A typical evening at a Lake Pichola palace venue might run like this, with our timings built backwards from the muhurat:

• Three hours before. The couple's hero car and the Vellfire arrive at the hotel for a final check: fuel, air-conditioning, flowers fixed and the cabin cleaned again after decoration.
• Two hours before. The bride's party leaves by Vellfire for the jetty; the chauffeur waits at the jetty car area rather than returning to the hotel, so the car is ready if anyone needs to go back.
• Ninety minutes before. Elders travel in E-Class saloons, timed to catch the boat before the main guest wave.
• One hour before. The baraat assembles at the agreed point; the groom's car moves at walking pace with the procession, and the chauffeur follows the planner's cues.

Not every Udaipur wedding happens in winter. Landing at Dabok

Maharana Pratap Airport sits at Dabok, roughly 22 km east of the city, about 30 to 40 minutes from the lakes depending on traffic. Beyond the lakes: day trips in comfort

Udaipur sits in the heart of Mewar, surrounded by forts, temples and hills that reward a day out. Outstation trips are charged per kilometre, and a round trip is billed on no fewer than 250 km for each calendar day. Overnight trips carry one small extra: the chauffeur's stay, covered by an allowance of Rs 1,500 a night.

• Kumbhalgarh and Ranakpur loop. The great walls of Kumbhalgarh and the marble Jain temple at Ranakpur make a classic full day through the Aravallis. Seasons and festivals

• October to March is Udaipur's high season and the heart of the destination-wedding calendar. Rolls-Royce, vintage and Vellfire dates can be taken months in advance.
• Gangaur, in March or April, sees processions to Gangaur Ghat and a festival on Lake Pichola; roads near the ghats are crowded in the evenings.
• April to June is hot. Open vintage cars are best used after sunset, and saloons with strong air-conditioning for daytime.
• The monsoon, July to September, fills the lakes and turns the Aravallis green. It is a lovely, quieter time for couples and pre-wedding shoots, with easy availability.
