Searching for a taxi service near me usually means one of two things: you need a car in the next hour, or you are planning a trip and want a taxi you can trust for the whole of it. RutzIndia.com is built for the second, and does the first well whenever a car is free. We run a pre-booked taxi service in the metros, in the leisure cities of Rajasthan, Goa and Kerala, on the pilgrim roads of Uttarakhand and Punjab, and up into the Himalaya, with one consistent promise: the fare is fixed before you travel, the car is recent and clean, and the driver is there for your trip alone.
Taxi service fares at a glance
Our taxi service starts at Rs 3,960 Pay Now to Reserve for an airport transfer in a sedan, Rs 7,200 Pay Now to Reserve for a full 8 hr/80 km day and Rs 36 per km for outstation trips. Short hops such as Jammu to Katra are charged the Rs 3,960 Pay Now to Reserve minimum fare one way. An Innova Crysta is Rs 57.6/km. All fares are before 5% GST.
The table below uses the base (Delhi) rate for local and airport work; other cities apply a small multiplier, for example 1.10 in Mumbai and Goa or 0.92 in Lucknow, Agra and Varanasi. Kilometre-based fares are identical nationwide.

Taxi fare per km by car class
For any journey outside a city package, the taxi fare is simply kilometres multiplied by the class rate. To make that concrete, the last two columns price two real one way corridors: Delhi to Jaipur (about 280 km) and Bangalore to Chennai (about 345 km).
| Taxi class | Seats | Rate per km | Delhi to Jaipur drop | Bangalore to Chennai drop |

| Innova Crysta | 6 | Rs 57.6 | Rs 15,960 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 19,670 Pay Now to Reserve |

Round trips use the same rates but are billed on at least 250 km per calendar day, plus Rs 1,500 per night for the driver. Every price here is before 5% GST; tolls, border fees and parking are added at actual. Route-by-route detail sits on the Delhi to Jaipur and Bangalore to Chennai pages.

Taxi service in North India
Delhi NCR is our busiest region. Most visitors land at IGI, and the Delhi airport taxi page explains terminal pickups; the official Delhi Airport site lists which airlines use T1, T2 and T3. For day hire inside the capital see taxi service in Delhi, and for the satellite cities see Gurgaon and Noida. The classic drives out of Delhi are Delhi to Agra on the Yamuna Expressway, Delhi to Jaipur, and Delhi to Chandigarh along NH 44.
Uttar Pradesh combines business and faith. Lucknow is a wedding and administrative hub, Agra is Taj country, and Varanasi is where an early start matters: the ghats are at their finest at sunrise, and our drivers know which lanes the car can reach. Krishna devotees head for Vrindavan and Mathura, about three hours from Delhi.
Punjab means Amritsar, the Golden Temple and the Wagah border ceremony in the late afternoon; plan to leave the city at least two hours before the retreat begins.
Taxi service in the hills
Mountain driving is its own craft. Drivers give way to uphill traffic, avoid overtaking on blind bends, and plan the steepest climbs for daylight. We use experienced hill drivers for these routes and prefer SUVs or Innovas where the road is rough.
- Uttarakhand: Dehradun and Rishikesh are the gateways to Mussoorie, the Ganga ghats and the Char Dham Yatra by car, which usually opens in late April or May. Seasonal advice and registration notes are published by Uttarakhand Tourism. For the drive up from the capital see Delhi to Rishikesh and Delhi to Dehradun.
- Himachal Pradesh: Shimla and Manali need drivers comfortable on narrow roads and, in December to February, snow. Our Himachal taxi service page covers the Atal Tunnel, Solang and Spiti, and the Chandigarh to Manali route is the usual approach.
- Jammu and Kashmir: the Kashmir taxi service covers Srinagar, Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Sonamarg, while Jammu to Katra serves Vaishno Devi pilgrims.

Taxi service in West and Central India
Mumbai traffic rewards local knowledge: a taxi service in Mumbai that knows when to take the Sea Link or the Eastern Freeway saves real time. Pune is linked by the expressway in about three hours; see Mumbai to Pune. Pilgrims to Sai Baba book Mumbai to Shirdi or Pune to Shirdi. Goa has two airports, Dabolim in the south-centre and Mopa in the north, so tell us which one when you book a Goa taxi. Ahmedabad and Indore round out the region; Indore's taxi page covers day trips to Ujjain and Omkareshwar.
Rajasthan is best seen by road. Jaipur, Udaipur and Jodhpur are connected by good highways, and October to March is the comfortable season; Rajasthan Tourism publishes festival calendars that help with timing.
Taxi service in South India
Bangalore is our southern base for drives to Mysore, Coorg and Ooty. Hyderabad and Chennai serve their IT corridors and airports, with Chennai also the start of the pleasant coastal drive to Pondicherry. In Kerala, Kochi is the gateway to Munnar, Alleppey's backwaters and the Kerala tour by car. Coimbatore and Mysore serve the Nilgiris and the palace circuit.
Taxi service in Kolkata and the East
Kolkata runs to its own clock. Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose airport sits to the north-east of the city, and the run to Park Street or Ballygunge can stretch well past an hour when the VIP Road and EM Bypass are jammed in the evening. Salt Lake and New Town are the business districts, and many visitors combine meetings there with a day at Dakshineswar and Belur Math across the river. During Durga Puja, usually in September or October, whole neighbourhoods close to traffic for pandal crowds, so a driver who knows the diversions is worth more than any map. We quote Kolkata local packages at a slightly lower city factor of 0.95, which puts a sedan's 8 hr/80 km day at Rs 6,840 Pay Now to Reserve before GST.
All 27 taxi service cities at a glance
Every city below has its own page with sightseeing plans, airport and railway notes, localities we cover and popular drives. The short-package price is the 4 hr/40 km slab in a compact sedan, rounded to the nearest Rs 10 and before GST.
A day with a pre-booked taxi, start to finish
It helps to know what actually happens after you book. Take a typical 8 hr/80 km sightseeing day in Jaipur:
- The evening before, you receive the driver's name, a contact route and the car's registration. If you want to start earlier or add a stop, this is the moment to say so.
- At the reporting time, the car is at your hotel porch. The clock starts now, not when the driver left home, and the odometer reading is noted.
- During the day, the driver waits at each stop, whether that is Amer Fort's parking area, the City Palace or a bazaar in the old city, and moves on when you are ready. Monument and parking fees are paid as they arise and noted.
- If the day runs long, extra hours and kilometres are charged at the rates printed on your booking; nobody renegotiates in the car.
- At drop-off, the closing odometer and time are recorded, and your bill arrives by email with tolls and parking listed line by line. Pay any balance by card or UPI.
The same pattern applies in every city, which is why regular travellers stop shopping around once they have used it.
Matching the taxi to the road
Road type matters as much as headcount. City traffic and short airport runs suit a compact sedan, which slips through gaps and parks anywhere. Expressways such as Mumbai-Pune or the Yamuna Expressway are comfortable in any car, but on long days the extra space of a premium sedan or Innova makes a difference by the fourth hour. Mountain roads with broken patches, such as the approach to Spiti or parts of the Kumaon, deserve ground clearance, so choose an SUV. Unpaved village roads to a family home or farmhouse wedding are fine in an Innova driven gently. Tell us where you are going and the desk will suggest the class; we would rather send the right car than the cheapest one.
Sightseeing by taxi: four classic city days
A full-day 8 hr/80 km taxi is the most relaxed way to see an Indian city, because the car waits at each stop and nobody has to bargain at the gate. Four day plans our drivers run often, with the sedan price for each city's package:
- Delhi (Rs 7,200 Pay Now to Reserve): start at Humayun's Tomb when it opens, continue to Qutub Minar in Mehrauli, then lunch in Khan Market or Connaught Place. Afternoon at India Gate and Rashtrapati Bhavan's avenue, finishing at Lodhi Garden or an evening in Chandni Chowk, where the car parks outside the lanes and you walk in.
- Jaipur (Rs 6,840 Pay Now to Reserve): Amer Fort early, before the tour buses; a photo stop at Jal Mahal; then the City Palace, Jantar Mantar and the facade of Hawa Mahal in the old city. End at Nahargarh for sunset over the Pink City.
- Mumbai (Rs 7,920 Pay Now to Reserve): the Gateway of India and Colaba in the morning, the Kala Ghoda galleries and the Fort area's Victorian buildings, then Marine Drive, Haji Ali from the promenade and Bandra's Bandstand, using the Sea Link to cut the drive north.
- Varanasi (Rs 6,630 Pay Now to Reserve): a pre-dawn drive to the ghats for the sunrise boat ride, breakfast back at the hotel, Sarnath in the late morning, and an evening drop near Dashashwamedh Ghat for the Ganga aarti.
Monument tickets and parking are paid as you go and noted on the bill. For multi-city sightseeing, the Golden Triangle and Rajasthan tours keep one taxi and driver with you throughout.

The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board publishes yatra registration and facilities on its official website; check it before planning the Katra leg, especially around Navratri.
Crossing state lines: permits, entry tax and green cess
India's taxi rules are made partly in Delhi and partly in each state capital, and a long taxi journey can pass through three or four jurisdictions. What you need to know as a passenger:
- The national layer. Tourist taxis can hold an all-India permit under the 2023 rules issued by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. The operator pays its fee centrally, and the ministry has advised states not to charge those vehicles further taxes.
- Himachal Pradesh. The state collects entry tax from outside vehicles at barriers such as Parwanoo and Mehatpur, and publishes the procedure for outside contract carriages on district sites like Kangra's entry tax page. The treatment of all-India-permit taxis has been contested, so amounts on the day can differ from what you read online.
- Uttarakhand. The state has announced a green cess on vehicles from outside Uttarakhand, to be collected automatically from FASTag balances as cars enter towards Dehradun, Haridwar and the hills.
- Everywhere else. Most day-to-day intercity journeys, say Delhi to Agra or Mumbai to Pune, involve only FASTag tolls, but city entry fees, eco fees at particular destinations and parking at monuments still apply.
How we bill it: the driver pays whatever is lawfully collected, keeps the receipt or the FASTag record, and it appears on your bill line by line. We never add a guessed permit amount to the fare, and we do not pass on charges that turn out not to be due.
How quickly can a taxi reach me?
"Taxi service near me" often means "how soon can you be here?" The honest answer: RutzIndia.com is a pre-booked service, not an on-street hail. In the metros a few hours' notice is usually enough, and a car booked the evening before is almost never a problem. In smaller cities and hill towns, where fewer cars are on our roster, a day's notice is safer, and in peak weeks, earlier still. If you need a car within the hour, WhatsApp the desk; if we can do it, we will say so, and if we cannot, we will tell you straight away rather than leave you waiting.
When to book your taxi
India's calendar shapes taxi availability. Diwali, Holi and Durga Puja see heavy family travel; the wedding season from roughly November to February ties up Innovas and luxury cars on weekends; and the Char Dham opening in May fills Uttarakhand. During the monsoon, typically June to September, the Western Ghats and the hills can see landslides and slow traffic, so we build buffer time into schedules. If your dates fall in any of these windows, reserve a week or two early.
Fair rules, clearly written
Every taxi from RutzIndia.com is within four model years, commercially registered and driven by a professional chauffeur. You pay by card or UPI through the booker, and business travellers receive GST invoices. Cancellation costs nothing if you cancel more than 72 hours ahead; after that the charge is 10% inside 72 hours, 50% inside 48 hours and the whole fare inside 24 hours or on a no-show, as set out in our cancellation policy. Airport pickups include 60 minutes of free waiting after an international landing and 30 minutes after a domestic one.
