Mysuru moves at a gentler pace than Bangalore, but its sights are spread out: the palace in the centre, Chamundi Hill to the south-east, Srirangapatna and the KRS dam to the north, and the forest roads to Coorg and the Nilgiris beyond. Our taxi service in Mysore puts one chauffeur and one car at your disposal for all of it. A 4 hr/40 km city package starts at Rs 3,960 Pay Now to Reserve in a sedan, a full day at Rs 6,630 Pay Now to Reserve, and highway kilometres are billed at Rs 36 in a Dzire or Rs 57.6 in an Innova Crysta. You book on RutzIndia.com, see the fare upfront and pay by card or UPI.

Overnight trips add a driver allowance of Rs 1,500 per night, and a round trip out of town is billed at no less than 250 km per calendar day.

Mysore taxi rate per km, class by class
Fares updated September 2026. Mysuru's outstation pricing is simple: a rate per kilometre for each car class, a 250 km minimum for each calendar day on round trips, and nothing else hidden inside the number. The table prices three real bookings for every class so you can see what the rate means in practice: a one-way drop to Madikeri in Coorg, a one-way run to Kempegowda airport, and a two-day round trip that bills the 500 km minimum.
| Class | Coorg drop, about 120 km | Per km | Bangalore airport drop, about 180 km | Two-day loop, 500 km billed |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Swift Dzire, Aura, Amaze | Rs 4,320 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 36 | Rs 6,480 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 18,000 Pay Now to Reserve |

Every figure excludes 5% GST, tolls (the Bangalore-Mysuru expressway has toll plazas on the way), forest and state entry fees and parking, all charged at actual cost. A two-day loop also adds one driver night allowance of Rs 1,500.
Local packages in Mysuru: 4, 8 and 12 hours
For sightseeing inside the city and its near surroundings, hourly packages are better value than per-km billing. The 12 hr/120 km package is worked out as the 8-hour fare multiplied by 1.5 plus 40 extra kilometres at the class rate, which makes it the natural choice for Dasara evenings, long wedding days and a sightseeing day that ends with the Brindavan fountain and a late dinner.
| Package | Dzire | Ertiga | Innova Crysta | Fortuner | Tempo Traveller |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 4 hr / 40 km | Rs 3,960 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 4,980 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 6,960 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 12,420 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 10,770 Pay Now to Reserve |
| 8 hr / 80 km | Rs 6,630 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 8,280 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 11,580 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 20,700 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 17,940 Pay Now to Reserve |
| 12 hr / 120 km | Rs 11,370 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 14,100 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 19,680 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 34,410 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 30,030 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Extra km beyond package | Rs 36 | Rs 42 | Rs 57.6 | Rs 84 | Rs 78 |
Extra hours are shown in the booker before you confirm. For the national explanation of how local packages are counted (garage-to-garage versus pickup-to-drop), see local car rental 8 hr / 80 km.

A day of sightseeing in Mysore by car
An 8 hr/80 km package is usually enough to see the core of the city without rushing. A typical order our drivers suggest:
- Chamundi Hill early, before the tour buses arrive; the Nandi monolith is on the way down.
- Mysore Palace mid-morning, then Devaraja Market for jasmine, betel leaves and Mysore pak.
- St Philomena's Cathedral and the Jaganmohan Palace art gallery after lunch.
- Srirangapatna, about 15 km north, for Tipu Sultan's summer palace, the Ranganathaswamy temple and Gumbaz.
- Brindavan Gardens at KRS, roughly 20 km out, timed for the musical fountain at dusk.
That loop typically adds up to 60-75 km. If you also want Somanathapura's Hoysala temple or the Ranganathittu bird sanctuary, take the extra hours on the meter rather than squeezing them in. On Sundays and public holidays the palace illumination draws big crowds, so the driver will drop you close to the gate and wait at the designated parking.
Dasara and festival travel
Mysuru Dasara, held each year in September-October, is the city's biggest event, ending with the Jamboo Savari procession on Vijayadashami. The palace is lit every evening of the festival, roads around the Ambavilas complex are closed to traffic at times, and hotels fill across the city. For Dasara week we recommend:
- booking at least three weeks ahead, because every local operator is stretched;
- choosing an 8 hr package so the car can hold at a permitted spot while you watch the procession;
- checking the official schedule at Mysuru Dasara and diversion notices from the Mysuru district administration.
Makar Sankranti in January and the long weekends around Ugadi and Deepavali also see heavy traffic between Bangalore and Mysuru.

Airports: Mysuru and Bangalore
Mysuru's own airport at Mandakalli, about 12 km south of the city, has a small number of domestic flights; a transfer there is billed at the airport rate of Rs 3,630 in a sedan. Most travellers, including NRIs and foreign visitors, fly into Kempegowda International in Bangalore, roughly 180 km away. That run is priced as outstation: around 180 x Rs 36 = Rs 6,480 Pay Now to Reserve in a sedan or 180 x Rs 57.6 = Rs 10,260 Pay Now to Reserve in an Innova Crysta, plus expressway tolls.
For arrivals we monitor the flight, a chauffeur stands in the arrivals hall with your name on a board, and waiting is free for 60 minutes after international flights and 30 minutes after domestic ones. Beyond that the hourly waiting rate applies. The drive usually takes three to three and a half hours via the access-controlled Bangalore-Mysuru expressway. Starting in Bangalore instead? Use Bangalore airport taxi or the dedicated Bangalore to Mysore taxi page.
Outstation from Mysore: Coorg, Ooty, Wayanad and Kabini
Mysuru sits at the head of some of South India's best road trips, and most of them pass through forest.
Coorg (Madikeri). About 120 km west via Hunsur and Kushalnagar, with a stop at the Bylakuppe Tibetan settlement and the Golden Temple. Allow three hours. A one-way sedan costs around Rs 4,320 Pay Now to Reserve; a two-day round trip bills the 500 km minimum (Rs 18,000 Pay Now to Reserve sedan, Rs 28,500 Pay Now to Reserve Innova). Travelling from the capital? See Bangalore to Coorg taxi.
Ooty. Around 125 km via Gundlupet, Bandipur and Mudumalai. The road through Bandipur is closed to most traffic at night (roughly 9 pm to 6 am), so plan departures in daylight. Entering the Nilgiris requires a free e-pass for non-local vehicles plus a green tax. The Kalhatti ghat into Ooty is steep with many hairpins; our drivers use low gears and do not overtake on the bends. Coming from Bangalore, compare with the Bangalore to Ooty taxi.
Kabini and Nagarhole. About 80 km to the Kabini river lodges; safaris are booked separately with the forest department, and your driver waits at the resort.
Wayanad. Around 140 km to Sulthan Bathery via the Kerala border, which adds a tourist permit at actual cost.
Hassan, Belur and Halebidu. Roughly 120 km to Hassan for the Hoysala temples, often combined with Shravanabelagola on a long day.
Popular outstation routes from Mysore with one-way fares
These are the drives we are asked for most often from Mysuru, priced one way at the per-km rate. If you want the car to stay with you, the round trip bills the actual kilometres or 250 km per day, whichever is more.

|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bangalore city | 145 | Rs 5,220 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 8,270 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 11,310 Pay Now to Reserve | Expressway, tolled |

| Kozhikode | 215 | Rs 7,740 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 12,250 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 16,770 Pay Now to Reserve | Via Wayanad ghat |
Continuing south into Tamil Nadu? Our Coimbatore taxi service covers the Nilgiris from the other side. For drops that end in a different city from where you started, the one-way taxi page explains how return-empty kilometres are handled. Shorter forest and river outings, such as the Kabini lodges (about 80 km), BR Hills (about 90 km) or the Shivanasamudra falls, are almost always done as a day out with the car waiting, which is billed at the 250 km daily minimum: Rs 9,000 Pay Now to Reserve in a sedan or Rs 14,250 Pay Now to Reserve in an Innova Crysta, plus entry fees and parking.
Four Mysore day plans that work
The royal day (8 hr package). Mysore Palace at opening, the Jaganmohan Palace art gallery, lunch in the Sayyaji Rao Road area, the Rail Museum near the station, St Philomena's in the late afternoon and the palace illumination on Sunday evening or a festival night.
Srirangapatna and the dam (8 or 12 hr package). The Ranganathaswamy temple, Tipu's Daria Daulat Bagh summer palace, the Gumbaz, the confluence at Sangama, Ranganathittu for storks and painted pelicans (boats run through the day), then KRS and the Brindavan fountain after dark. Taking the 12-hour package removes the rush at the end.
Hoysala and river temples (outstation, one day). Somanathapura's star-shaped Keshava temple, the sand-buried temples of Talakadu, and the Shivanasamudra falls if the Kaveri is running full, typically from August to October. This loop is roughly 180-200 km, billed at the 250 km day minimum.
Forest day (outstation). Kabini or Nagarhole for a forest department safari, or BR Hills for the Biligiri Ranganatha temple and the wildlife sanctuary. Safari tickets are separate and limited; book them before the car. General visitor information for Karnataka's heritage sites is also available on Incredible India.
Groups, weddings and family trips
Mysuru is a popular wedding city, with ceremonies in palace-view hotels and choultries across Kuvempunagar and Vijayanagar. For guests shuttling between venues, a Tempo Traveller at Rs 17,940 Pay Now to Reserve for a local day or an Ertiga at Rs 8,280 Pay Now to Reserve keeps everyone together. Large family groups travelling on from Bangalore can look at Tempo Traveller in Bangalore. For a groom's entry car or a luxury SUV for the bride's family, the Fortuner class is available at Rs 20,700 Pay Now to Reserve for a local day, and other luxury options are listed under wedding car rental.
School groups, yoga students heading to Gokulam's ashtanga shalas for a month, and conference delegates at the university campus also use our longer packages. Companies can ask for GST invoices and consolidated billing.
Airport and railway station transfers in Mysuru
A transfer of up to 40 km is a fixed fare. For anything longer, the total below is the transfer fare plus the kilometres beyond 40 at the car's per-km rate. Longer airport runs such as Bangalore's Kempegowda airport are booked as one-way outstation drops and are shown in the routes table above.
| Transfer | About km | Sedan | Innova Crysta | Ertiga |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mysuru airport (Mandakalli) to the palace area | 12 | Rs 3,630 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 6,390 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 4,560 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Mysuru airport to Srirangapatna | 25 | Rs 3,630 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 6,390 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 4,560 Pay Now to Reserve |

| Mysuru Junction to Melkote | 50 | Rs 3,990 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 6,960 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 4,980 Pay Now to Reserve |
Mysuru Junction is a short drive from the palace and most central hotels. Trains from Bangalore such as the Shatabdi and the intercity services arrive through the day; share your train number and the driver will wait at the main exit with your name. The same flight-tracking rules apply at Mandakalli: 30 minutes free after a domestic landing, 60 after an international one, then hourly waiting.
Localities we cover in and around Mysuru
We pick up from homes, hotels, hostels and yoga shalas across the city:
- Central and old city: Chamarajapuram, Agrahara, Mandi Mohalla, Nazarbad, Lakshmipuram, Devaraja Mohalla, the Sayyaji Rao Road area.
- North and west: Gokulam, Yadavagiri, Vijayanagar (all stages), Hebbal, Metagalli, Hootagalli, Bogadi, Hinkal.
- South and south-west: Kuvempunagar, Saraswathipuram, Jayalakshmipuram, JP Nagar, Srirampura, Ramakrishnanagar, Vidyaranyapuram, Siddhartha Layout, Alanahalli.
- Around town: Bannimantap, Chamundi Hill foothills, the Hebbal industrial area, Srirangapatna, Nanjangud, KRS and Hunsur.
Gokulam's ashtanga yoga community and the students around the university campus in Manasagangotri often book early-morning airport or Bangalore runs; mention the lane name, as some streets are narrow.
Which cab is cheaper in Mysore?
For hops of a few kilometres inside the city, an auto-rickshaw or an app ride will normally cost less. The picture changes once the car needs to wait at the palace, climb Chamundi Hill, run out to Srirangapatna and bring you back: a fixed Rs 6,630 Pay Now to Reserve eight-hour sedan day, with a driver who knows the parking rules at each sight, is typically cheaper than several separate rides, and it is far easier during Dasara when on-demand cars are hard to find. For intercity trips, the per-km outstation fare is fixed in advance and does not rise at night or in the rain. See cab booking for how our fixed quotes work.
Is Ola or Uber available in Mysore?
App-based ride-hailing operates in Mysuru for city trips, and availability is generally better in the central areas than on the outskirts. For forest-road journeys, Coorg or Ooty trips, a car that waits all day, or a specific vehicle such as an Innova Crysta or a Tempo Traveller for a group, a pre-booked chauffeur is the dependable option: the vehicle, the driver and the fare are confirmed before you travel, with a GST invoice at the end.
Cars, seats and luggage for Mysore trips
Two travellers with airline suitcases fit comfortably in a Dzire. A family of five heading to Coorg with a week's luggage is better off in an Innova Crysta on rent, which also rides the potholed stretches near Hunsur more smoothly. For couples who want a premium SUV feel for a Kabini lodge stay, the Fortuner on rent class is popular, and for weddings or corporate guests arriving through Bangalore, cars from luxury car rental in Bangalore can be positioned to Mysuru.
Booking, inclusions and cancellation
Enter your pickup in Mysuru, pick the package and the car in the online booker, and pay by card or UPI. The confirmation shows the chauffeur and vehicle details before your trip. We only send cars within four model years.
Your fare covers the vehicle, fuel, the driver's wages and the kilometres in your package. It excludes 5% GST, tolls, parking, forest and state entry fees, extra hours or kilometres and the driver's night allowance on overnight tours. Everything paid at actual cost appears on the final invoice with receipts.
Plans change: cancel more than 72 hours ahead and you pay nothing. Inside 72 hours the charge is 10% of the fare, inside 48 hours 50%, and inside 24 hours or on a no-show 100%. Details are in our cancellation policy.
Practical tips for getting around Mysuru
Traffic windows. Mysuru's inner ring and Sayyaji Rao Road are pleasant for most of the day, but the stretch between the palace and Devaraja Market slows sharply around 5-8 pm, and school hours bring queues near Jayalakshmipuram and Saraswathipuram. Heading to Bangalore, leave before 7 am or after 8 pm on Fridays and Sundays to avoid the weekend surge at the expressway toll plazas near Ramanagara and Mandya.
Parking. The palace has a paid car park on the south side; the driver drops you at the entrance and waits there. Chamundi Hill has limited parking near the temple, so on festival days vehicles may be held lower down and you walk the last stretch. Brindavan Gardens charges separately for vehicle entry, added to your invoice at actual cost.
Weather. October to February is the most comfortable period, with cool mornings that suit the Chamundi steps. April and May are hot in the afternoons, so plan outdoor sights early. The south-west monsoon from June to September makes the Coorg and Wayanad roads beautiful but slippery; drivers slow down on the ghats and we may suggest an earlier start.
Dress and entry. Temples at Chamundi Hill and Srirangapatna expect modest dress, and shoes are left at stands outside. Cameras are restricted inside the Mysore Palace, so keep your phone and bags in the car if you prefer; the car stays locked with the driver.
Longer stays. Students and families spending a month in Gokulam or visiting relatives often want a car on selected days only. Rather than a daily contract, book 4 hr or 8 hr packages as you need them, or ask about monthly car rental with driver if you need one car every weekday.
The Bangalore-Mysuru expressway: what changes for your trip
The access-controlled expressway between Bengaluru and Mysuru has turned what used to be a stop-start drive through Ramanagara, Channapatna and Mandya into a much faster run for most of its length. A few practical consequences for anyone booking a cab:
- Tolls are higher than on the old road, and they are billed at actual cost on your invoice. The service road alongside remains available for local traffic, but our drivers use the expressway unless you ask otherwise.
- The famous snack stops have moved off the main line. Channapatna's wooden toy shops and the thatte idli and Maddur vada stalls are reached via exits and the service road. Tell the driver if you want a breakfast stop; it adds perhaps 20 minutes.
- Two-wheelers, autos and tractors are not permitted on the main carriageway, so average speeds are more predictable, but the approaches at the Bengaluru end, around Kengeri and the Nice Road junction, still back up at peak hours.
- Airport runs to Kempegowda still cross the whole of Bengaluru or skirt it on the ring roads, which is why we quote about three and a half hours from Mysuru rather than the two hours the expressway alone would suggest.
Why book a Mysore cab through RutzIndia.com
You get a fixed fare instead of haggling at the palace gate, a driver who knows the forest-road timings on the way to Ooty and Kabini, and the same booking desk if you continue to Bangalore, Coorg or Kerala. Travellers doing a longer South India loop often pair this page with our Bangalore taxi service and the outstation cabs rate card. Karnataka's tourism department publishes attraction timings on karnatakatourism.org, which is worth checking for palace and zoo closing days.
