A mini bus sits in the useful middle of group transport. It is big enough to carry an entire wedding side, a class of thirty students or a sales team in one go, yet small enough to turn into a hotel porch, climb to Mussoorie and park where a 45 seat coach would be waved away. Book a mini bus on rent through RutzIndia.com in 20, 27 or 35 seat sizes, air-conditioned and with a driver, for Rs 134.4 per km outstation or Rs 42,000 for a full city day.
Mini bus on rent: fares for 2026
A mini bus on rent costs Rs 134.4 per km for outstation journeys, with round trips billed on at least 250 km per day. City packages are Rs 25,200 Pay Now to Reserve for 4 hours/40 km and Rs 42,000 Pay Now to Reserve for 8 hours/80 km, and an airport transfer within 40 km is Rs 23,100 Pay Now to Reserve. Add 5% GST; tolls, parking and state taxes are charged at actual cost.
Local packages vary a little by city because traffic and operating costs vary. At base rates an 8 hour day is Rs 42,000 Pay Now to Reserve in Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai and Pune, about Rs 46,200 Pay Now to Reserve in Mumbai, Rs 44,100 Pay Now to Reserve in Bangalore and Rs 39,900 Pay Now to Reserve in Kolkata. The outstation per-km rate does not change.
| Trip | Km | Mini bus fare |
|---|---|---|
| Delhi to Vrindavan, one way | 165 | Rs 23,100 Pay Now to Reserve (minimum fare applies) |

| Delhi to Mathura, one way | 180 | Rs 24,300 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Delhi to Chandigarh, one way | 245 | Rs 33,070 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Delhi to Dehradun, one way | 250 | Rs 33,750 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Hyderabad to Vijayawada, one way | 275 | Rs 37,130 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Bangalore to Chennai, one way | 345 | Rs 46,570 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Delhi to Mussoorie round trip, 2 days | 580 | Rs 78,300 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Delhi to Amritsar round trip, 2 days | 900 | Rs 1,21,500 Pay Now to Reserve |
On a two-day round trip the crew's night allowance of Rs 1,500 is added, and every round trip is billed on the greater of actual kilometres or 250 km per calendar day.

Sizes and seating layouts
Mini coaches in India are built by bodybuilders on truck-derived chassis from the major commercial vehicle makers, so interiors vary from operator to operator. What stays consistent is the size band, set out in detail below.
Headroom is the difference you notice first after a tempo traveller. Adults can walk the aisle upright, which matters on a five-hour drive when people want to swap seats or pass food along. For individual photos and seat plans of the specific bus, ask when you book; we share them before confirmation.
If you need reclining luxury seats, air suspension and a larger hold for a long tour, compare with a Volvo bus on rent. If your group is 16 or fewer, a tempo traveller on rent is cheaper per km.
Mini bus rates by seat count, 2026
All mini buses we book sit in one fare class, whatever the seat count. What changes with size is comfort and luggage room, not the per-km price.
| Mini bus | Per km outstation | Daily minimum (round trip) | Lowest day bill | Crew allowance per night | Local 8 hr / 80 km |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 20 seat | Rs 130 | 250 km | Rs 33,750 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 1,500 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 42,000 Pay Now to Reserve |
| 26 to 27 seat | Rs 130 | 250 km | Rs 33,750 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 1,500 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 42,000 Pay Now to Reserve |
| 30 to 32 seat | Rs 130 | 250 km | Rs 33,750 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 1,500 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 42,000 Pay Now to Reserve |
| 35 seat | Rs 130 | 250 km | Rs 33,750 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 1,500 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 42,000 Pay Now to Reserve |
The local package figure is at base city rates; see the city table further down. Interstate journeys run on an All India Tourist Permit, and the MoRTH circular on tourist permits asks states not to levy additional taxes on permitted tourist vehicles; where a border checkpost still collects one, it appears on your bill at the receipted amount.

A closer look at each mini bus size
20 seat mini bus
Built on a shorter chassis, the 20 seater turns tighter than any other bus and fits most hotel porches and farmhouse gates. Seating is usually 2+1, so every passenger has an aisle or window seat and the aisle is wide enough to walk with a bag. It carries roughly as many people as a 20 seat tempo traveller but with standing headroom and overhead racks, which matters on a five-hour drive. Families of eighteen to twenty and small office teams book it most.
26 to 27 seat mini bus
The most common size in operators' yards. With 2+2 pushback seating and a centre aisle, it is long enough for a wedding side or a school class and still manageable in city traffic. Many 27 seaters have a small luggage space at the rear or under the floor, plus racks above the seats for day bags. It is also the most practical size for daily staff shuttles.
30 to 32 seat mini bus
A stretched body with an extra row or two. It suits groups that are just over the 27 seat line, such as a college class with two teachers, or a residents' association picnic. It is a highway and city bus; on narrow hill approaches, two smaller vehicles are often easier.
35 seat mini bus
The largest bus we still call a mini, and the upper limit for many resort driveways and older wedding venues. Most 35 seaters carry a proper luggage hold, which makes them useful for airport groups who would otherwise need a full-size coach. For long tours with heavy luggage, compare it with a Volvo bus on rent at Rs 210 per km.

Mini bus or two tempo travellers for 25 people?
For a same-day Delhi to Agra outing (about 466 km), here is how the options compare for a group of 25.
| Option | Seats | Per km | Fare for 466 km | Crew | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| One 27 seat mini bus | 27 | Rs 130 | Rs 62,910 Pay Now to Reserve | one | Standing headroom, racks, often a hold |
| Two 12 seat tempo travellers | 24 (one short) | Rs 160 combined | Rs 72,700 Pay Now to Reserve | two | Would need a third vehicle for the 25th person |
| One 17 + one 12 seat Traveller | 29 | Rs 160 + any long-body supplement | Rs 72,700 Pay Now to Reserve and up | two | Group split across two vans |
| One 41 seat luxury coach | 41 | Rs 210 | Rs 97,860 Pay Now to Reserve | one | Most comfortable, most expensive |
For 20 to 32 people on a highway day, the mini bus is almost always the best value.
Mini buses in other cities
Mumbai and Pune. Popular for corporate offsites in Lonavala and Karjat, college trips to Mahabaleshwar and family groups to Shirdi. The Mumbai-Pune expressway handles buses well; in the monsoon, plan extra time for the ghat section. See Mumbai to Pune for the drive.
Bangalore. Tech-park team outings to Nandi Hills, Mysore and resorts on Kanakapura Road, and daily staff shuttles across the Outer Ring Road. Peak-hour traffic around Silk Board and Marathahalli means early starts.
Hyderabad and Chennai. Day trips to Ramoji Film City and Srisailam from Hyderabad; Mahabalipuram and Pondicherry along the East Coast Road from Chennai.
Kolkata. Durga Puja pandal tours, picnics to Digha and Mandarmani on the coast (roughly 180 km each way), and wedding guest shuttles through the winter season.
Jaipur and Udaipur. Wedding guest transport between palace hotels, and group sightseeing where the bus parks at the edge of the old city.
Worked example: a Kolkata office picnic
A Salt Lake office takes 30 staff to the coast for a Saturday picnic in a 32 seat mini bus.
- Kolkata to Mandarmani and back, about 360 km.
- One calendar day with a 250 km minimum; the actual 360 km is higher, so 360 km is billed.
- Fare: 360 km at Rs 130 = Rs 48,600 Pay Now to Reserve.
- Tolls and beach parking at cost, and 5% GST on the fare. No night allowance for a same-day trip.
About Rs 1,620 per head before tolls and GST, door to door from the office, with the bus parked beside the beach while the team spends the day on the sand.
Mini bus on rent in Delhi and the NCR
Delhi is our busiest mini bus market. Common bookings include wedding guest loops between Aerocity or Mahipalpur hotels and farmhouse venues on the Chhatarpur and Mehrauli belt, corporate shuttles between Gurgaon's Cyber City and Noida's sectors, and school excursions to the Red Fort, Qutub Minar and India Gate circuits. The Delhi Tourism site lists monument timings that help plan such days.
A few Delhi realities we plan around:
- Old Delhi: buses stop at the edge, near the Red Fort parking, and the group walks or takes cycle rickshaws into Chandni Chowk.
- Airport: at IGI the bus uses the designated commercial pickup area; our driver meets the group with a name board inside, then walks them to the coach. Free waiting is 60 minutes after an international arrival and 30 minutes after a domestic one.
- Traffic windows: morning and evening rush on the Outer Ring Road, NH-48 to Gurgaon and the DND flyway can add an hour; we pad pickup times accordingly.
- Winter fog: from late December into January, early-morning departures to Agra, Jaipur or Chandigarh slow down on the highway; start after sunrise when you can.
For smaller groups within the city, our tempo traveller in Delhi page covers 9 to 26 seat vans, and popular outstation runs from the capital include the Delhi to Mussoorie drive, Agra, Jaipur and Haridwar.
Who books mini buses, and why
Wedding families. A 27 or 35 seater moves the baraat, then shuttles guests between hotel, mehendi venue and reception without a fleet of cars. In the November to February season, especially on auspicious Saturdays, book a month ahead.
Schools and coaching institutes. Day trips to science museums and heritage sites, and two or three day study tours. We provide registration, permit and driver details for your records ahead of time.
Companies. Team outings, plant visits and daily staff runs. Regular users can move to monthly billing with GST invoices; see our employee transport services for shift-based contracts.
Religious and community groups. Temple circuits such as Mathura and Vrindavan, gurudwara visits to Amritsar, and Shirdi from Mumbai or Pune.
Sports teams and bands. Kit and instruments go in the hold, players and musicians in the seats, one bus to the venue and back.
Permits, crew and safety standards
Every mini bus is a commercially registered tourist vehicle with a valid fitness certificate, and interstate trips run under the All India Tourist Permit framework. Where a state checkpost still collects entry tax, the crew pays it against a receipt and it appears on your bill at cost. Vehicles are within four model years of manufacture.
A helper can be arranged on request to load luggage, manage the door at stops and keep the aisle clear. On routes with more than about ten hours of driving in a day, we schedule a halt instead of pushing one driver through the night. Please remind passengers that standing in the aisle while the bus is moving is unsafe, however short the hop.
For those interested in the chassis and safety equipment on modern Indian buses, manufacturers such as Eicher publish specifications for their bus ranges.
Worked quote: a 30-person office trip to Mussoorie
A Gurgaon team of thirty leaves on Friday morning, stays two nights in Mussoorie, and returns Sunday evening.
- Route: Gurgaon to Mussoorie via Dehradun and back, plus local runs to Kempty Falls and George Everest viewpoint, about 640 km.
- Minimum: three days at 250 km is 750 km, which is higher than the driven distance, so 750 km is billed.
- Fare: 750 km at Rs 130 = Rs 1,01,250 Pay Now to Reserve.
- Crew allowance: two nights at Rs 1,500.
- Tolls and hill-town parking at actual cost; 5% GST.
Roughly Rs 3,370 per person before tax and tolls, for three days of transport. If the team shrinks to fourteen, the same trip in a tempo traveller would be 750 km at Rs 78, or Rs 58,500 Pay Now to Reserve.
Planning a wedding shuttle with mini buses
Guest transport is one of the easiest wedding jobs to underestimate. A few principles from the season:
- Map the loops first. List every hotel, the venue and the airport or railway station, then decide which loop each bus covers. Two 27 seaters running fixed loops every 45 minutes usually beat one 35 seater trying to serve everyone on demand.
- Stagger the big moments. For the baraat, bring buses to the groom's hotel 30 minutes before the procession, and keep one on standby near the venue for elders who want to leave early.
- Put a family coordinator on each bus. A cousin with the guest list and the driver's number saves a dozen phone calls.
- Book overtime in advance. Receptions run late. Agreeing extra hours at booking avoids a midnight negotiation.
- Pair buses with cars. Elders and VIPs may prefer a car; see our wedding car rental range for decorated sedans and SUVs that run alongside the coaches.
For temple circuits and gurudwara visits by community groups, our pilgrimage taxi guide covers dress codes, shoe counters and darshan timings, and companies can open a billing account through corporate car rental.
Mini bus or tempo traveller: a quick comparison
- Price per km: Rs 130 for a mini bus against Rs 78 for a tempo traveller and Rs 102 for an Urbania.
- Capacity: 20 to 35 seats against 9 to 26.
- Headroom and aisle: a mini bus lets adults stand and walk; vans do not.
- Luggage: most mini buses have racks plus a hold; vans rely on roof carriers or small rear compartments.
- Access: vans fit narrower lanes and tighter hill roads.
For 18 to 22 passengers, the maths often favours one 20 or 27 seat mini bus over two vans, both on fare and on keeping the group together.
Sample wedding shuttle timetable with two mini buses
For a two-day wedding with guests at two hotels and functions at a separate venue, a fixed timetable keeps everyone moving without a stream of phone calls. Here is a typical plan for the evening function using two 27 seat buses.
| Time | Bus A | Bus B |
|---|---|---|
| 6:30 pm | Leaves Hotel 1 with first guests | Leaves Hotel 2 with first guests |
| 7:00 pm | Arrives venue, returns to Hotel 1 | Arrives venue, returns to Hotel 2 |
| 7:30 pm | Second run from Hotel 1 | Second run from Hotel 2 |
| 8:00 pm to 10:30 pm | Parked at venue for elders leaving early | Parked at venue |
| 11:00 pm | First return run to Hotel 1 | First return run to Hotel 2 |
| 12:00 midnight | Final return run | Final return run |
Print the timetable on the welcome card in each guest's room, and give the family coordinator both drivers' numbers. Book the buses for the full day with the late finish agreed in advance, so the last run is not rushed.
Daily staff transport with mini buses
Factories, hospitals, schools and IT offices use mini buses for fixed-route commutes, often across two or three shifts. A route contract differs from a tourist booking in a few ways:
- Pricing is based on route length, number of trips per day and working days per month, not on the tourist per-km rate, and is quoted after we study your pickup points.
- The same bus and driver run the route every day, so employees know their stop, time and driver.
- Spare cover is arranged by the operator when a bus is in for servicing.
- Invoicing is monthly, with GST, in the company's name.
A 27 seat mini bus suits most shift routes; lower-density routes may use a tempo traveller instead. Our employee transport services page describes how we plan routes and timings.
Airport and railway pickups by mini bus
For groups arriving together, a mini bus waits in the airport's commercial pickup area while the driver meets the group at the arrival exit with a name board. International arrivals have 60 minutes of free waiting and domestic arrivals 30 minutes, after which waiting is billed per hour. An airport transfer within 40 km is Rs 23,100 Pay Now to Reserve at base city rates. At major railway stations such as New Delhi, Hazrat Nizamuddin, Mumbai CSMT and Chennai Central, the bus parks in the station's commercial lot and the driver meets the group at the named exit; share the coach number and arrival platform if you know them.
Mini buses on hill routes
A mini bus can reach Mussoorie, Shimla, Nainital, Ooty and Mount Abu with an experienced driver, but a few realities change the plan. Average speed drops to 25 to 30 km an hour on the climbs. Hill towns restrict buses on their central roads, so the group is dropped at a designated stand and walks or takes local taxis. A 35 seater may not reach some hotels at all; ask your hotel whether a bus can come to the door. For the narrowest roads, including many Himachal valleys and the upper Char Dham circuit, we recommend switching to tempo travellers. We plan hill legs to finish before dark where possible.
Passenger conduct and safety on board
- Stay seated while the bus is moving, and keep the aisle clear of bags.
- Use seat belts where fitted, especially on highways.
- Do not lean out of windows or ride on the steps.
- Smoking and alcohol are not allowed in the vehicle.
- Children should sit with an adult on long drives.
- Keep valuables with you; the bus is locked at stops, but hotels and venues are busy places.
A clear briefing from the group leader in the first five minutes of the journey makes the whole trip calmer, and it helps the driver concentrate on the road.
What to check before the bus leaves
At pickup, take a few minutes to confirm the AC cools the rear rows, the door closes and locks properly, the emergency exit is not blocked by luggage, and the registration, permit and insurance papers are in the bus. Count heads, and share the driver's name and number with the group. If anything is wrong, message the desk before you set off.
Day-by-day: a two-day Jaipur trip by mini bus from Gurgaon
A Gurgaon housing society takes 28 residents to Jaipur for a weekend in a 32 seat mini bus.
| Day | Plan | Approx km |
|---|---|---|
| Saturday | Gurgaon to Jaipur on NH-48, lunch at a highway dhaba, evening at Hawa Mahal and Johari Bazaar | 250 |
| Sunday morning | Amer Fort, Jal Mahal photo stop, City Palace | 40 |
| Sunday afternoon | Jaipur to Gurgaon, with a tea stop near Behror | 250 |
About 540 km driven, above the two-day minimum of 500 km, so 540 km is billed: Rs 72,900 Pay Now to Reserve at Rs 134.4 per km. Add one night of crew allowance, tolls on NH-48, Rajasthan entry tax where collected, monument parking and 5% GST. Roughly Rs 2,610 per resident for the transport, before extras. The bus parks outside Jaipur's walled city while the group explores the bazaars on foot.
Three myths about mini bus pricing
Myth: a bigger bus costs more per km. Within the mini bus class, a 20 seater and a 35 seater are billed at the same Rs 134.4 per km. Choose on comfort and luggage, not price.
Myth: a one-way trip costs half of a round trip. On listed routes a one-way drop is billed on the route distance only. But a round trip spread over several days is billed on at least 250 km a day, so a relaxed three-day return may cost more than twice a one-way drop.
Myth: an all-inclusive quote is cheaper. A quote that bundles tolls and taxes has to guess them, and usually guesses high. Our quote lists the fare and adds tolls, parking and state tax at the exact receipted amounts.
College fests, NSS camps and study visits
College groups use mini buses for inter-college fests, national service scheme camps in villages, industrial visits and field trips for geography and architecture students. Faculty in charge should carry the student list with parents' contact numbers and the institution's permission letter. For rural camps, tell us the last stretch of road; a 20 or 27 seater reaches most village schools and panchayat halls where a full coach cannot. We share vehicle and driver documents in advance for the college's records.
Satsang, kirtan and temple groups
Religious groups often travel as whole congregations: a satsang heading to Vrindavan for Holi, a gurudwara committee taking families to the Golden Temple, a temple trust visiting Tirupati or a mandali on its way to Shirdi. A 27 or 35 seat mini bus keeps the group together through early starts and long darshan queues. Tell us the darshan or kirtan time and we set departure accordingly. Most temple towns have designated bus parking some distance from the shrine, so allow for a walk, and carry a bag for everyone's footwear. On overnight pilgrimages, choose a hotel or dharamshala with bus access and let us know the address in advance.
Who pays for what on the day
The crew pays tolls, parking and any border tax as the trip goes, and keeps every receipt; you settle them with the balance at the end. Fuel is included in the fare. The group pays its own entry tickets, meals and hotel rooms, and the crew takes meals and lodging from the night allowance on multi-day trips. If a toll or tax is paid by card, the receipt still appears on your invoice, so the total is transparent.
Accessibility and comfort for older passengers
Mini buses have a higher first step than a car, and some have a narrow door. For groups with elderly members, ask for a bus with a grab rail at the door, seat elders in the first two rows near the door and the AC vents, and plan stops at restaurants or fuel stations with proper washrooms every two hours. If a traveller uses a wheelchair, tell us at booking; a folded chair fits in most holds, and we can add an Innova Crysta or Ertiga to the booking for anyone who would find the bus uncomfortable. The car travels on the same schedule, so the group still moves together and nobody is left behind at the hotel.
How to book, pay and cancel
Share your pickup points, dates, head count and plan in the online booker or on WhatsApp. We send a written quote that names the bus size and lists every inclusion. Pay the advance by card or UPI through the booker; the balance is settled at the end of the trip, and GST invoices are issued for businesses.
Cancellation follows our published policy: free more than 72 hours before pickup, 10% of the fare within 72 hours, 50% within 48 hours, and the whole fare within 24 hours or for a no-show. Dates can often be moved free of charge if you tell us early and a bus is available.
Best time to book
Mini buses are in shortest supply on wedding weekends from November to February, during Diwali and Durga Puja, in December and January when schools travel, and around New Year. For those periods, reserve three to four weeks ahead. From April to June, hill-station demand from the plains is high, and the monsoon brings occasional road closures in the hills, so keep a spare half-day in any mountain plan. For the full range of group vehicles, see the bus on rent overview.
