Booking a Delhi to Mathura taxi usually means one of three things: a family heading for darshan at the birthplace of Lord Krishna, a group planning the Govardhan parikrama, or a traveller who wants Mathura's temples and ghats in a single unhurried day before returning to Delhi by dinner. RutzIndia.com covers all three with a private car and a driver who has done the Braj run many times, a fare you can see before you pay, and cars that are never older than four model years. Whether you need a Delhi to Mathura one way taxi or a same-day return, the price is worked out from the kilometres, not guessed at the kerb.
Delhi to Mathura taxi fare in 2026
A Delhi to Mathura one way taxi costs Rs 6,480 Pay Now to Reserve in a compact sedan (about 180 km at Rs 36/km) and Rs 10,260 Pay Now to Reserve in an Innova Crysta. A same-day round trip is billed on 360 km: Rs 12,960 Pay Now to Reserve by sedan. Fares are before 5% GST; tolls, state entry tax and parking are charged at actual.
Every figure below is simply the route distance multiplied by the published per-km rate for that class of car, so you can check the arithmetic yourself. A round trip is billed on the higher of the actual kilometres or 250 km for each calendar day the car is with you, which is why a two-day Braj circuit is billed on 500 km even if you only drive 420.
| Car class | One way (180 km) | Same-day return (360 km) | Two-day return (500 km billed) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Swift Dzire / Honda Amaze | Rs 6,480 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 12,960 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 18,000 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Honda City / Hyundai Verna | Rs 8,640 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 17,280 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 24,000 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Maruti Ertiga / Kia Carens | Rs 7,560 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 15,120 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 21,000 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Innova Crysta / Hycross | Rs 10,260 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 20,520 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 28,500 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Toyota Fortuner | Rs 15,120 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 30,240 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 42,000 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Tempo Traveller (12-17 seat) | Rs 14,040 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 28,080 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 39,000 Pay Now to Reserve |
On an overnight trip add a driver night allowance of Rs 1,500 per night, depending on the car. Toll plazas on the Yamuna Expressway, any Uttar Pradesh entry tax that applies to a Delhi-registered commercial car, and temple-area parking are passed on at exactly what the receipt says. The fare calculator shows the same numbers for any other distance.

Which road your driver takes to Mathura
There are two sensible ways out of Delhi, and the choice depends on where you are picked up and what time you leave.
Yamuna Expressway (the usual choice)
From South Delhi, Noida, Greater Noida or East Delhi, the driver heads for the DND or Kalindi Kunj, joins the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway and then the Yamuna Expressway, an access-controlled six-lane road that runs south towards Agra. You leave it at the Mathura interchange and cross over to the city on the old highway. The expressway is fast and dull, which is exactly what you want with elderly parents in the back. There are toll plazas along it; the amounts change from time to time, so we bill them at actual rather than printing a figure that may be stale.
NH-19 through Faridabad and Palwal
From Gurgaon, Faridabad or West Delhi, the older route along NH-19 (the former NH-2) through Faridabad, Ballabhgarh, Palwal, Hodal, Kosi Kalan and Chhata is often just as quick door to door, because it avoids crossing the whole city to reach Noida. It is busier, with more trucks and more towns, but it passes close to Kokilavan near Kosi Kalan, which some Shani devotees like to include. Your driver will suggest whichever road is lighter at the hour you leave.
Timing the drive
Leave Delhi by 6 am and you are usually in Mathura before 9, in time for the morning darshan before the heat and the crowds build. Weekday afternoons back into Delhi are straightforward; Sunday evenings on the expressway approach to Noida can add 45 minutes. Around Janmashtami, Holi and long weekends, allow an extra hour each way.
Planning darshan: Janmabhoomi, Dwarkadhish and the ghats
Mathura is a working city with temples woven into it, not a temple town that ends at a single gate, so a little planning pays off. The district administration keeps an official list of Mathura tourist places that is useful for checking what is where.
- Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi. The complex marking the traditional birthplace of Krishna is the first stop for most visitors. Security is tight: mobile phones, cameras, bags and most electronic items are generally not allowed inside, so leave them in the car with your chauffeur or at the lockers near the entrance. The temple closes for a few hours in the afternoon, and the exact opening hours shift with the season, so check the notice board or ask the driver to confirm on the day. The Wikipedia entry on Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi gives useful background on the site's history.
- Dwarkadhish temple. In the old city near the river, reached through narrow lanes. Cars cannot get close; your driver drops you at the nearest workable point and waits, and an e-rickshaw covers the last stretch comfortably.
- Vishram Ghat and the Yamuna aarti. The most important of Mathura's ghats, where the evening aarti on the river is a fine end to the day. Boats can be hired along the ghats for a short ride.
- Kans Qila and the Government Museum. The museum has a well-regarded collection of Mathura-school sculpture and suits anyone interested in history; the old fort ruins overlook the river.
A comfortable one-day plan is Janmabhoomi in the morning, Dwarkadhish and Vishram Ghat before the midday closing, lunch, then either Gokul and Mahavan across the river or a drive out to Govardhan, returning to Delhi after the evening aarti.

Beyond the city: Govardhan, Barsana, Nandgaon and Gokul
A private car earns its keep in Braj because the sacred sites are scattered across villages that buses serve badly.
- Govardhan is about 22 km west of Mathura. Devotees walk the parikrama around Govardhan Hill, roughly 21 km on foot; the car can meet you at Daan Ghati or Radha Kund so you do not have to walk back to where you started.
- Barsana and Nandgaon, the villages of Radha and of Krishna's foster family, are about 45 to 50 km north-west. They are the setting for Lathmar Holi in the week before Holi, when the roads choke with visitors and outer parking is enforced.
- Gokul, Mahavan and Baldeo lie across the Yamuna to the south-east and make a neat half-day loop.
If your group also wants the temples of Vrindavan, which sits about 15 km north of Mathura and has its own rhythm of darshan timings, look at our Delhi to Vrindavan taxi page and ask for a two-day Braj itinerary. Bigger families often book an Innova or a Tempo Traveller from Delhi so that everyone rides together.
Delhi to Mathura distance, drive time and toll stretches
The table breaks the Yamuna Expressway route into its natural sections, measured from central Delhi. Distances are approximate and times assume a weekday morning start. We show which stretches carry toll plazas rather than printing rupee amounts, because operators revise charges; current national highway toll information is published by the National Highways Authority of India.
| Stretch | Distance (about) | Typical time | Toll plaza on this stretch? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Central Delhi to Kalindi Kunj or the DND | 15 km | 30-45 min | No |
| Noida to the start of the Yamuna Expressway at Greater Noida | 25 km | 25-35 min | No |
| Yamuna Expressway to the Mathura interchange | 115 km | about 1 hr 20 min | Yes, billed at actual |
| Interchange into Mathura city | 20 km | 20-30 min | No |
| Whole trip by the NH-19 alternative via Palwal and Kosi Kalan | 180 km | 3.5-4 hrs | Yes, billed at actual |
The expressway section is where the time is made up; the slow parts are always the first half hour in Delhi and the last twenty minutes into Mathura's old city, where cycle-rickshaws, cattle and pilgrims share the road.

Taxi, train, bus or self-drive to Mathura?
Mathura is one of the best-connected railway towns in north India: Mathura Junction sits on the main lines south from Delhi, so trains are plentiful. The right choice depends on who is travelling and how much you want to see.
| Way to travel | From your door? | Elders and luggage | Stops on the way | What you pay for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chauffeur taxi with RutzIndia.com | Yes, gate to temple parking | Easy, driver helps with bags | Any, such as Kokilavan or Gokul | The whole car: Rs 6,480 Pay Now to Reserve sedan one way |
| Train to Mathura Junction | No, auto or e-rickshaw at both ends | Stairs, platforms and crowds | None | A seat per person |
| Bus from Delhi | No, Mathura bus stand | Tight luggage space | Scheduled halts only | A seat per person |
| Self-drive rental car | Yes | You load, drive and park | Any | Rental plus fuel, tolls and your own driving |
Two budget travellers with backpacks will usually save money on the train. A family of four or five with a grandparent, who would otherwise pay for autos at both ends and walk long platforms, often finds the per-head gap small and the comfort gap large. Self-drive suits confident drivers, but parking near Janmabhoomi and the lanes around Dwarkadhish are genuinely stressful if you do not know them.
Pickup variants for a Delhi to Mathura cab
| Where you start | Where the chauffeur meets you | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|
| Delhi airport, T1 or T3 | Arrivals hall, holding a name board | Flight tracked; 60 min free waiting after international, 30 min after domestic |
| New Delhi or Hazrat Nizamuddin station | Station parking, agreed by message | Timed to the train's actual arrival |
| Hotels in Connaught Place, Paharganj or Karol Bagh | Hotel porch | Standard 180 km one-way fare applies |
| Homes in Noida or Greater Noida | Your gate | Often a shorter drive; billed on actual km |
| Gurgaon or Faridabad | Your gate | NH-19 usually quicker; billed on actual km |
Families in the suburbs can also book a regular Noida taxi or Gurgaon taxi for local errands before or after the trip.
Sightseeing add-ons around Mathura
| Add-on | Distance from Mathura (about) | Time to allow | Extra billing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Govardhan parikrama, drop and pickup | 22 km each way | Half a day on foot | About 44 km extra, roughly Rs 1,590 by sedan |
| Barsana and Nandgaon | 45-50 km each way | Half a day | Extra km, or make it a two-day trip |
| Gokul, Mahavan and Baldeo loop | 10-25 km | 3 hours | Extra km at your car's rate |
| Vrindavan temples | 15 km | Half a day | Extra km at your car's rate |
| Continue to Agra as a one-way drop | 60 km | 1 hr 15 min | One-way extension at the same per-km rate |
Barsana's Radha Rani temple sits on a hilltop reached by steps, which the Barsana entry on Wikipedia describes along with the Lathmar Holi tradition. If you are continuing to the Taj, our Agra taxi service covers local sightseeing once you arrive, and larger families may prefer an Innova Crysta on rent in Delhi for the whole circuit. Prices for any one-directional drop follow our one way taxi rules, and multi-day trips our outstation cabs rules.
Festivals, seasons and crowd days
Mathura is at its most joyous and most crowded on the same days.
- Janmashtami (August or September): midnight celebrations at Janmabhoomi draw enormous crowds; police close roads near the temple and set up outer parking. Book early and expect to walk.
- Holi season (February or March): Lathmar Holi at Barsana and Nandgaon, then Holi itself across Braj. Wear clothes you can throw away and keep phones in a sealed pouch.
- Govardhan Puja the day after Diwali, and Guru Purnima (Mudiya Purnima), fill the parikrama marg.
- Winter (November to February) brings fog on the expressway, especially before 9 am; drivers slow down and trips take longer. Summer (April to June) is very hot by noon, so start early.
Pickup points, drop points and the booking process
We pick up anywhere in Delhi NCR: hotels in Connaught Place, Karol Bagh and Paharganj, homes in South and West Delhi, Delhi airport terminals T1 and T3, New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin railway stations, and addresses in Noida, Greater Noida, Gurgaon, Faridabad and Ghaziabad. Drops in Mathura include the Janmabhoomi parking area, the old-city approach to Dwarkadhish, hotels along the highway, Mathura Junction railway station, or any ashram or dharamshala address you give us.
- Choose one way or round trip, the car class and your pickup time on the booking page.
- See the fare with GST shown separately, and pay a part advance by card or UPI through the secure booker.
- Receive the driver's name and car number by message the evening before.
- Pay the balance, tolls and parking at the end of the trip; corporates can ask for a GST invoice.
For an airport pickup we track your flight, the driver meets you with a name board, and waiting is free for 60 minutes after an international arrival and 30 minutes after a domestic one; after that it is billed at the hourly rate on your booking.
What is included, and our cancellation rules
The fare includes the car, fuel, the driver's wages and a clean, air-conditioned vehicle within four model years. It does not include tolls, state entry tax, parking or temple fees, which are paid at actual, or the driver's night allowance on multi-day trips. Plans change, especially around festivals, so here is how cancellation works: free more than 72 hours before pickup, 10% within 72 hours, 50% within 48 hours, and 100% within 24 hours or for a no-show. The full wording is on our cancellation policy page.
Travelling on to Agra afterwards? Mathura is about 60 km short of Agra on the same expressway, so a one-way Delhi-Mathura-Agra day works well. See our Delhi to Agra taxi fares or the same-day Agra tour by car.
For other temple circuits across north India, including Haridwar, Rishikesh and the Char Dham, our pilgrimage taxi service works on the same transparent per-km basis, and the Delhi taxi service page covers local hire once you are back in the capital.
