Most people spend less than two days in Agra, and almost all of that time revolves around three monuments. That makes the car you choose unusually important: a taxi service in Agra needs to get you to the Taj Mahal gate before the sunrise queue builds, know which parking lot serves which entrance, wait patiently while you walk the Agra Fort ramparts, and then take you on to Jaipur or back to Delhi without drama. RutzIndia.com books exactly that, at a fixed fare you see before paying.
This page covers local sightseeing packages, pickups from Agra Cantt station and Kheria airport, the rules around vehicles near the Taj, and the most common onward drives. It is written for domestic families, foreign tourists on the Golden Triangle, and pilgrims combining Agra with Mathura and Vrindavan.

Pickups from Agra Cantt station, Kheria airport and the hotel belt
Agra Cantt is the main railway station and the stop for the Gatimaan and Shatabdi trains from Delhi, which is why so many day-trippers start their Agra visit on its platform at about 8 or 9:30 am. Agra Fort and Raja ki Mandi stations serve other trains. Kheria, the civil airport inside the Air Force area, has a limited number of flights; security procedures there mean the driver waits at the designated civil enclave parking. The driver tracks your train or flight, meets you with a name board, and allows 30 minutes of free waiting after a domestic arrival (60 minutes after an international flight); after that the hourly rate applies.
| Drop point | Distance from Agra Cantt | Usual drive | Dzire-class fare | Innova Crysta fare |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sadar Bazaar and cantonment hotels | about 2 km | 10 min | Rs 3,630 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 6,390 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Fatehabad Road hotel belt | about 5 km | 15 min | Rs 3,630 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 6,390 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Taj Ganj, near the West Gate | about 6 km | 20 min | Rs 3,630 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 6,390 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Shilpgram parking for the East Gate | about 7 km | 20 min | Rs 3,630 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 6,390 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Kheria civil enclave | about 8 km | 20 min | Rs 3,630 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 6,390 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Akbar's Tomb, Sikandra | about 12 km | 30 min | Rs 3,630 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 6,390 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Fatehpur Sikri monument parking | about 40 km | 1 hr | Rs 3,630 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 6,390 Pay Now to Reserve |
How to see the Taj Mahal properly by car
The Taj sits inside a protected zone, and the rules shape your day. Petrol and diesel vehicles cannot drive up to the gates; they stop at designated parking lots, the main one being at Shilpgram for the East Gate, with battery buses and golf carts covering the last stretch. The West Gate is reached through the lanes of Taj Ganj and is usually busier. Your driver will tell you where the car will wait and how to find it afterwards.
A few other things worth knowing before you go, all confirmed on the official Taj Mahal website:
- The Taj is closed on Fridays for prayers. Plan Agra Fort, Mehtab Bagh or Fatehpur Sikri for that day instead.
- Sunrise is the best time. Gates open around dawn; aim to leave your hotel 45 minutes earlier to clear parking and security.
- Security is airport-style. Large bags, tripods, food and many electronics are not allowed; leave them in the car, which is one of the quiet advantages of having your own driver waiting outside.
- Night viewing runs on a few nights around each full moon, with limited tickets bought in advance.
- Mehtab Bagh, across the Yamuna, gives the classic sunset view of the Taj; the driver can take you there in about twenty minutes from the Fort.

An Agra sightseeing day by taxi
This route fits within an 8 hour / 80 km package if your hotel is on Fatehabad Road or in the cantonment. It starts with the Taj and ends with sunset across the river.
Morning: the Taj Mahal and breakfast
Leave at 5:30 am for the East Gate parking, see the Taj at sunrise and spend two unhurried hours inside. Return to the hotel for breakfast and a rest around 9:30 am.
Midday: Agra Fort and the Baby Taj
At 11 am the driver takes you to Agra Fort, the red sandstone citadel where Shah Jahan spent his last years looking at the Taj. Allow ninety minutes. Lunch is near Sadar Bazaar, then cross the river to Itmad-ud-Daulah, the jewel-box marble tomb often called the Baby Taj.
Afternoon and evening: Sikandra or Mehtab Bagh
If you prefer quiet gardens, head to Akbar's Tomb at Sikandra on the Mathura road. Otherwise, finish at Mehtab Bagh for sunset before dinner.
Many visitors prefer to add Fatehpur Sikri as a separate half day. At about 40 km each way it just exceeds a 4 hour / 40 km package, so book the 8 hour / 80 km package for Rs 6,630 Pay Now to Reserve in a sedan and combine it with the Fort. If you are coming from Delhi for one day only, the same day Agra tour by car page has a timed plan built around the expressway.
Beyond Agra: Fatehpur Sikri, Braj, Jaipur and Delhi
Agra sits at the corner of the Golden Triangle and at the edge of Braj, the land of Krishna. Outstation fares are the distance multiplied by the per-km rate, with round trips billed on the higher of actual kilometres or 250 km per calendar day.
| From Agra to | Approx. km | Typical drive | Sedan one way | Innova one way |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mathura (minimum fare applies) | 55 km | 1.25 hrs | Rs 3,630 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 6,390 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Bharatpur (Keoladeo) (minimum fare applies) | 55 km | 1.25 hrs | Rs 3,630 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 6,390 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Vrindavan (minimum fare applies) | 70 km | 1.5 hrs | Rs 3,630 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 6,390 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Gwalior | 120 km | 2.5 hrs | Rs 4,320 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 6,840 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Delhi (Yamuna Expressway) | 233 km | 3.5 hrs | Rs 8,390 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 13,280 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Jaipur | 240 km | 4.5 hrs | Rs 8,640 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 13,680 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Lucknow, by the six-lane expressway | 335 km | about 5 hrs | Rs 12,060 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 19,090 Pay Now to Reserve |
Worked example: Agra to Jaipur with a Fatehpur Sikri stop. The detour adds little distance, so the one-way sedan fare stays close to Rs 8,640 Pay Now to Reserve (240 km at Rs 36) plus Rajasthan permit and tolls. Many travellers also stop at the Abhaneri stepwell. The full route guide is at Agra to Jaipur taxi, and once you arrive our taxi service in Jaipur covers the Pink City.
Worked example: Mathura and Vrindavan day trip. A same-day return of about 150 km is billed on the 250 km day minimum: Rs 9,000 Pay Now to Reserve in a sedan or Rs 14,250 Pay Now to Reserve in an Innova Crysta. Temple darshan timings change with the season, so start by 7 am. Coming from the capital instead? See Delhi to Mathura taxi and Delhi to Vrindavan taxi.
Back to Delhi. The Yamuna Expressway runs from Agra to Greater Noida; the Yamuna Expressway Authority publishes toll and speed information. Our Delhi to Agra taxi page covers the route in both directions. For the full Delhi-Agra-Jaipur circuit, see the Golden Triangle tour by car, and for travel east along the expressway, taxi service in Lucknow.

Groups, school trips and busy seasons
Agra sees school groups, pilgrims and wedding parties in large numbers. For eight to seventeen travellers a tempo traveller in Agra or a Force Urbania is more comfortable than two cars and simplifies Taj parking. Things that change the plan:
- Winter fog (late December to January). Dense fog on the expressways slows traffic and can delay trains; sunrise at the Taj may be a grey haze. We build in time and never push a driver to speed.
- October to March is peak foreign-tourist season; book your car at the same time as your hotel.
- Taj Mahotsav (February). The ten-day crafts and culture festival near Shilpgram adds evening traffic on Fatehabad Road.
- Holi and Janmashtami. Mathura and Vrindavan draw huge crowds; roads close near the temples and parking moves to the town edges.
- Summer (April to June). Marble gets hot by mid-morning. Do the Taj at sunrise and keep afternoons for the car's air conditioning.
Agra taxi rate per km for 2026, by vehicle
Fares updated September 2026. Agra's own sights fit neatly into packages, but most visitors also leave the city: for Fatehpur Sikri with a drop in Jaipur, for Gwalior's fort, or on the long road south to Khajuraho's temples. Those legs are charged per kilometre, by vehicle, at national rates. The right-hand columns give one-way prices for those three drives.
| Agra car type | Seats | Per km | Fatehpur Sikri (40 km) | Gwalior (120 km) | Khajuraho (400 km) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Force Traveller (groups) | 16 | Rs 78 | Rs 9,870 Pay Now to Reserve (minimum fare applies) | Rs 9,870 Pay Now to Reserve (minimum fare applies) | Rs 31,200 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Crysta or Hycross | 6 | Rs 57.6 | Rs 6,390 Pay Now to Reserve (minimum fare applies) | Rs 6,840 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 22,800 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Dzire / Aura | 4 | Rs 36 | Rs 3,630 Pay Now to Reserve (minimum fare applies) | Rs 4,320 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 14,400 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Urbania (tour groups) | 17 | Rs 102 | Rs 13,650 Pay Now to Reserve (minimum fare applies) | Rs 13,650 Pay Now to Reserve (minimum fare applies) | Rs 40,800 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Ertiga | 6 | Rs 42 | Rs 4,560 Pay Now to Reserve (minimum fare applies) | Rs 5,040 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 16,800 Pay Now to Reserve |
| City / Verna | 4 | Rs 48 | Rs 5,460 Pay Now to Reserve (minimum fare applies) | Rs 5,760 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 19,200 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Luxury sedan | 3 | Rs 170 | Rs 18,990 Pay Now to Reserve (minimum fare applies) | Rs 19,800 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 66,000 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Fortuner | 6 | Rs 84 | Rs 11,370 Pay Now to Reserve (minimum fare applies) | Rs 11,370 Pay Now to Reserve (minimum fare applies) | Rs 33,600 Pay Now to Reserve |
Remember the two billing rules. One-way drops are the one-way distance times the rate, with the minimum fare as the floor, so Agra to Gwalior in a Dzire is 120 x Rs 36 = Rs 4,320 Pay Now to Reserve. Return journeys use whichever is larger, the real kilometres or 250 km for every calendar day, so a Gwalior and Orchha overnight trip of about 440 km is billed on 500 km (two days): Rs 18,000 Pay Now to Reserve in a Dzire, plus one night of driver allowance. Tolls, parking and any Madhya Pradesh or Rajasthan permit are added at actual cost.
Agra city packages: 4, 8 and 12 hours
Agra rewards the early riser, and a determined visitor can see the Taj at dawn, Agra Fort and the Baby Taj by lunch, Fatehpur Sikri in the afternoon and Mehtab Bagh at sunset. That is roughly eleven hours and a little over 100 km, which is exactly what the 12 hour / 120 km slab is for. We price it at the 8 hour fare multiplied by 1.5, with 40 kilometres at the vehicle's outstation rate added, rounded to Rs 30.
| Agra hire slab | After the km limit | 12 hr / 120 km | 8 hr / 80 km | 4 hr / 40 km |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Urbania for tour groups | Rs 102/km | Rs 41,340 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 24,840 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 14,910 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Traveller for 12-17 | Rs 78/km | Rs 30,030 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 17,940 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 10,770 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Innova for six | Rs 57.6/km | Rs 19,680 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 11,580 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 6,960 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Ertiga for six | Rs 42/km | Rs 14,100 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 8,280 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 4,980 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Dzire for four | Rs 36/km | Rs 11,370 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 6,630 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 3,960 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Verna for four | Rs 48/km | Rs 16,830 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 9,930 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 5,970 Pay Now to Reserve |
| E-Class for three | Rs 165.6/km | Rs 58,350 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 34,500 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 20,700 Pay Now to Reserve |
GST at 5% is extra. The slab begins when you step into the car and ends at your last drop. Distance beyond the limit is billed at the per-km figure in the first column, and extra time at the hourly rate the booker displays before payment. A national explanation of the packages is on local car rental 8 hr / 80 km.
More rail and road arrival points
The Agra Cantt table above covers most visitors. These other arrival points use the same transfer price within 40 km: a Dzire for Rs 3,630 Pay Now to Reserve, an Ertiga for Rs 4,560 Pay Now to Reserve, an Innova for Rs 6,390 Pay Now to Reserve.
| Arriving at | Typical hotel area | Distance | Dzire | Innova |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Agra Fort railway station | Taj Ganj, Fatehabad Road | about 4-6 km | Rs 3,630 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 6,390 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Raja ki Mandi station | Civil Lines, Kamla Nagar | about 2-5 km | Rs 3,630 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 6,390 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Idgah bus stand | Sadar Bazaar, Fatehabad Road | about 3-6 km | Rs 3,630 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 6,390 Pay Now to Reserve |
| ISBT, Transport Nagar | Sikandra, Kamla Nagar | about 3-6 km | Rs 3,630 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 6,390 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Tundla Junction | Taj Ganj hotels | about 25 km | Rs 3,630 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 6,390 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Yamuna Expressway toll plaza exit | Fatehabad Road hotels | about 8 km | Rs 3,630 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 6,390 Pay Now to Reserve |
Tundla is worth knowing about. Some long-distance trains on the Delhi-Howrah line stop at Tundla rather than Agra, and it is about 25 km east of the Taj. The drive takes forty minutes to an hour. Agra Fort station sits right below the fort walls and is handy for trains from the east and from Jaipur.

Longer and less obvious trips from Agra
Beyond the Golden Triangle legs, Agra is a good base for these drives:
| Destination from Agra | Road km (approx.) | Travel time | One-way Dzire | One-way Innova | Suggested plan |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Firozabad glass markets (minimum fare applies) | 45 | 1 hr | Rs 3,630 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 6,390 Pay Now to Reserve | Half-day return, day minimum applies |
| Govardhan (minimum fare applies) | 75 | 1.75 hrs | Rs 3,630 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 6,390 Pay Now to Reserve | Same-day parikrama |
| Barsana and Nandgaon (minimum fare applies) | 100 | 2.25 hrs | Rs 3,630 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 6,390 Pay Now to Reserve | Same day, best around Holi week |
| Etawah safari park | 125 | 2 hrs | Rs 4,500 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 7,130 Pay Now to Reserve | Same day by expressway |
| Orchha | 240 | 4.5 hrs | Rs 8,640 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 13,680 Pay Now to Reserve | Overnight, via Gwalior |
| Ranthambore (Sawai Madhopur) | 250 | 5 hrs | Rs 9,000 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 14,250 Pay Now to Reserve | Two nights for two safaris |
| Kanpur | 290 | 4 hrs | Rs 10,440 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 16,530 Pay Now to Reserve | One way by expressway |
| Khajuraho | 400 | 8 hrs | Rs 14,400 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 22,800 Pay Now to Reserve | Overnight at Orchha on the way |
Braj pilgrimages are the most common extra. The Mathura district portal posts crowd and traffic advisories for Janmashtami, the Govardhan parikrama days and the Barsana Lathmar Holi, when roads into the villages close and parking moves far out. The whole Rajasthan loop from here is laid out on Rajasthan tour by car.
E-rickshaw, app cab or a chauffeur in Agra?
Inside the Taj protected zone, only battery vehicles run close to the monument, so everyone ends up in an electric cart or on foot for the last stretch. For the rest of the city the choice looks like this:
| Option | Useful for | Things to weigh |
|---|---|---|
| E-rickshaw or tonga | Short rides around Taj Ganj | Fares agreed on the spot; not for luggage |
| App-based cab | Point-to-point city rides | Availability varies near the monuments and late at night |
| Self-drive car | Independent travellers | Taj zone restrictions, parking at each monument, expressway fatigue |
| Chauffeur-driven car (RutzIndia.com) | Sunrise Taj runs, full sightseeing days, Jaipur or Delhi transfers | Book early for October to March and Taj Mahotsav week |
The waiting is the big difference. On a Taj day you might spend three hours inside the monument; with a package, your driver waits at the parking with your bags, and nobody needs to negotiate a new ride afterwards.
Tips for foreign visitors hiring a car in Agra
- Carry your passport. Foreign-national tickets at the Taj and Agra Fort are checked, and hotels ask for it at check-in.
- Buy tickets online where possible to save queue time; the official Taj website links to the ticket portal.
- Use approved guides. Licensed guides carry identity cards; ask at the ticket office rather than accepting offers in the car park.
- Your itinerary is yours. If you do not want to visit marble or carpet showrooms, tell the driver at the start; there is no obligation to stop.
- Pay as you prefer. Book by card through the booker; international cards work, and the invoice arrives by email.
- Hydrate. Summer days are very hot and the Taj's marble platform reflects heat; the car carries drinking water.
Visitors on a first India trip often continue to Jaipur and Delhi; our taxi service in Delhi and the NRI car hire in India page cover arrivals and longer stays.
Agra with elderly parents or young children
Agra involves more walking than people expect: from the parking to the Taj gates, across the forecourt, up to the marble platform, and around the long ramparts of Agra Fort. A few adjustments make the day far easier for grandparents and small children:
- Start at sunrise and stop by noon. The marble heats up quickly from March to October, and the queues grow through the morning.
- Use the battery carts. From the East Gate parking, the electric shuttle saves a tiring walk; your driver will point you to the pickup point.
- Split the day. Book two 4 hour packages or one 12 hour package with a long hotel rest in the middle, rather than one exhausting loop.
- Choose the right car. An Innova Crysta's higher seats are easier to climb into than a low sedan, and its boot takes a folding wheelchair.
- Pick the quieter sights. Itmad-ud-Daulah and Mehtab Bagh are compact and shaded, and far less crowded than the Taj.
- Keep snacks in the car. Food is not allowed inside the Taj, so plan a proper breakfast before and a meal soon after.
Tell the booking desk about any mobility needs when you book, and the driver will plan drop points as close to each entrance as the rules allow.
Fleet and luggage for Agra

Before you book: inclusions, payment and cancellation
What you pay for with RutzIndia.com is simple: a clean car no older than four model years (the rare Rolls-Royce, Bentley or Maybach may be seven), an experienced chauffeur, the fuel needed for your quoted distance, and the chauffeur's own food on single-day trips. Anything outside that, such as GST, parking at the monuments, tolls, permits and any overnight allowance, appears as its own line so nothing is hidden. You pay by card or UPI through the booker, and a GST invoice arrives by email; tour operators and companies can request it in their own name.
Cancelling is free more than 72 hours before pickup. Within 72 hours we keep 10% of the fare, within 48 hours 50%, and within 24 hours or for a no-show 100%. The cancellation policy has the full terms, and you can compare vehicles on the fleet page.
Monument tickets, guides and camera fees are paid by you at the site; the driver can point you to the authorised ticket counters but does not sell tickets. The Agra district portal lists other heritage sites around the city.
