Most visitors spend only a day or two in Agra, which is exactly why transport has to work first time. A tempo traveller in Agra from RutzIndia.com meets your group at Agra Cantt station or Kheria airport, handles the Taj Mahal's no-vehicle zone, takes you out to Fatehpur Sikri and on to Mathura and Vrindavan, and can drop everyone in Delhi or Jaipur at the end. We rent AC Force Travellers with 9, 12, 17, 20 and 26 seats, plus Urbanias and mini buses, with fixed fares shown before you pay.
Tempo traveller hire in Agra: what it costs
Hiring a tempo traveller in Agra costs Rs 17,940 Pay Now to Reserve for a full 8 hour / 80 km day, Rs 10,770 Pay Now to Reserve for 4 hours / 40 km and Rs 9,870 Pay Now to Reserve for an airport or station transfer. Out-of-town travel to Mathura, Vrindavan, Bharatpur or Delhi is Rs 78 per km, 250 km minimum per day, plus 5% GST.
Agra's local and transfer prices carry a city factor of 0.92, so they are among the lowest on our rate card. Kilometre rates for highway travel are identical across India. Traveller prices cover 9, 12 and 17 seat bodies; 20 and 26 seaters are priced on enquiry.
| What you book | Tempo Traveller | Force Urbania | Mini bus |

GST at 5% is added to all prices. Yamuna Expressway and other highway tolls, state permit or tax when you enter Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh or Delhi, and parking fees are charged exactly as paid. For multi-day tours, the driver's night allowance is Rs 1,500 per night, and any round trip is billed on at least 250 km for each calendar day.

Seeing the Taj Mahal with a group
The Taj Mahal sits inside a protected zone where petrol and diesel vehicles are not allowed near the gates. Your Traveller parks at the designated parking areas near the East and West gates, and battery-operated buses and carts cover the final stretch. Our drivers know which gate suits your hotel and time of day: the East Gate usually has the shorter queue in the early morning, while the West Gate is closer to the old city and the Agra Fort.
Practical tips for groups:
- The Taj is closed on Fridays for prayers, and it opens around sunrise on other days. A 6 am entry beats both the crowds and the heat.
- Tickets, security rules and the full-moon night viewing calendar are published on the official Taj Mahal website. Night viewing is limited to a few nights around each full moon.
- Large bags, tripods and food are not allowed inside; leave them in the locked Traveller with the driver.
- Agra Fort, Itimad-ud-Daulah (the "Baby Taj") and Mehtab Bagh, across the Yamuna for the sunset view, fit comfortably into the same 8 hour package.
Fatehpur Sikri, Mathura, Vrindavan and Bharatpur
These are the trips that fill Agra's Travellers, with fares worked at Rs 78 per km for highway days or the local package where the distance fits.
- Fatehpur Sikri, about 40 km: the Mughal capital with Buland Darwaza and Salim Chishti's dargah. A return trip of about 80 km fits the 8 hour / 80 km local package, Rs 17,940 Pay Now to Reserve, with time for the Taj in the morning. Vehicles park below the complex, and a shuttle runs up to the gate. Information on protected monuments across the region is on the Archaeological Survey of India website.
- Mathura and Vrindavan, about 60 and 70 km: Krishna Janmabhoomi, Banke Bihari, Prem Mandir and ISKCON in one day covers about 150 to 170 km, billed on the one-day floor of 250 km: Rs 19,500 Pay Now to Reserve. Vrindavan's lanes around Banke Bihari are very narrow, so the driver drops you at the nearest parking and you walk the last part.
- Barsana and Nandgaon, about 110 km: Lathmar Holi in the week before Holi draws enormous crowds; vehicles are stopped well outside the towns. We plan early starts and a fixed meeting point.
- Govardhan, about 75 km: the parikrama is usually done on foot; the Traveller waits at the starting point.
- Bharatpur's Keoladeo bird sanctuary, about 55 km: a winter birding day between November and February is billed on 250 km, Rs 19,500 Pay Now to Reserve, plus Rajasthan's tourist vehicle tax.
- Gwalior, about 120 km: the fort and Jai Vilas Palace in a long day, about 240 km, again on the Rs 19,500 Pay Now to Reserve minimum plus Madhya Pradesh permit charges.
Delhi-based families doing Braj darshan can compare the Delhi to Mathura taxi and Delhi to Vrindavan taxi pages.

A sample two-day plan for a family of twelve
Day one. The Traveller collects the family at Agra Cantt off the morning express from Delhi and heads straight to the Taj Mahal's East Gate parking, reaching the monument before the late-morning crowd. After lunch on Fatehabad Road, the group sees Agra Fort, rests at the hotel through the hottest hours and ends the day at Mehtab Bagh for the sunset view of the Taj across the river. That is one 8 hour / 80 km day, Rs 17,940 Pay Now to Reserve.
Day two. An early start to Fatehpur Sikri, then on to Mathura for Krishna Janmabhoomi and Vrindavan for Banke Bihari and the evening lights at Prem Mandir, returning to Agra late at night or continuing to Delhi. As a single outstation day it is billed on the 250 km minimum or actual distance, whichever is higher, at Rs 78 per km, so roughly Rs 19,500 depending on where the day ends.
The combined cost for twelve people is typically under Rs 3,600 a head before GST, tolls, parking and tickets, far less than three separate cabs and with everyone travelling together.
The Chambal ravines and Bateshwar
For groups who have seen the monuments, the National Chambal Sanctuary near Bah, about 70 km south-east, offers river safaris to spot gharials, mugger crocodiles, Indian skimmers and, with luck, Gangetic dolphins, best from November to March. Bateshwar, on the Yamuna nearby, has a long riverside row of temples and hosts a large cattle and livestock fair around Kartik Purnima. A day covering both stays within the 250 km floor, Rs 19,500 Pay Now to Reserve in a Traveller; boat safaris are booked with local operators.

Food and rest stops around Agra
On the Yamuna Expressway there are food plazas with clean washrooms at regular intervals, which makes the Delhi-Agra run easy with children and elders. On the Jaipur road, Bharatpur and Mahuwa have highway restaurants, and Abhaneri's stepwell makes a good leg-stretch. In Agra itself, Sadar Bazar is known for chaat and the famous bedai-jalebi breakfast, and Fatehabad Road has family restaurants with space for large groups. Tell the driver about dietary needs, such as pure vegetarian or Jain food, and he will choose stops accordingly.
Elders, wheelchairs and the Taj
Families with elders often worry about the walk at the Taj. From the parking areas, battery-operated vehicles run to the gates, and inside the complex the main paths are paved, though the platform of the mausoleum involves steps. Wheelchairs may be available at the entrance; check current arrangements before your visit. Our drivers choose the parking closest to your gate, drop elders as near as the rules allow and keep the Traveller cool for their return. The Maharaja version, with its wide captain chairs, is easiest to board.
Onward drops to Delhi and Jaipur
Many groups arrive in Agra on the Gatimaan or Vande Bharat express, spend a day, then continue by road. One-way Traveller drops are priced on the route distance at Rs 78 per km:
- Agra to Delhi, about 233 km: Rs 18,170 Pay Now to Reserve on the Yamuna Expressway, plus tolls and GST. Car fares are on the Delhi to Agra taxi page, and our Delhi tempo traveller service covers the capital end.
- Agra to Jaipur, about 240 km: Rs 18,720 Pay Now to Reserve, typically with stops at Fatehpur Sikri and the Chand Baori stepwell at Abhaneri, plus Rajasthan permit charges. See the Agra to Jaipur taxi guide and our Jaipur tempo traveller team for the Rajasthan leg.
If you are planning the whole circuit, the Golden Triangle tour by car can be run in a Traveller for groups, and short-stay visitors from Delhi can book the same-day Agra tour by car.
The Golden Triangle for a group of fourteen
Many overseas and NRI groups run the whole triangle in one Traveller. A comfortable five-day version:
- Day 1, Delhi. Qutub Minar, Humayun's Tomb, India Gate and an evening at a Chandni Chowk food lane (walk-in from the parking).
- Day 2, Delhi to Agra (about 233 km). Yamuna Expressway, lunch in Agra, Agra Fort in the afternoon and Mehtab Bagh at sunset.
- Day 3, Agra. Sunrise at the Taj, breakfast back at the hotel, then Itimad-ud-Daulah and a marble-inlay workshop, or a half day at Fatehpur Sikri.
- Day 4, Agra to Jaipur (about 240 km). Fatehpur Sikri and the Chand Baori stepwell at Abhaneri en route, arriving for an evening at the bazaars.
- Day 5, Jaipur, then back to Delhi (about 280 km). Amer Fort in the morning and the drive to Delhi in the afternoon.
Real driving comes to about 900 to 950 km, which is under the five-day floor of 1,250 km, so the Traveller charge is Rs 97,500 plus four allowance nights, tolls, state taxes and GST, roughly Rs 6,960 a head for fourteen before extras. Our Golden Triangle tour by car page has shorter versions.
Braj parikrama and Govardhan
Pilgrims coming to Mathura and Vrindavan from Agra often want to walk the Govardhan parikrama, about 21 km around the sacred hill, or the shorter Vrindavan parikrama. The Traveller drops the group at the starting point at Daan Ghati or Manasi Ganga and waits there, or meets you at an agreed point on the circuit; elders who cannot complete the walk can ride part of the way. On Guru Purnima and Govardhan Puja the town is extremely crowded and vehicles are stopped at the edge. Barsana, Nandgaon and Gokul fit into a longer day from Agra, still inside the 250 km floor for most routes.
Orchha and Khajuraho in three days
- Day 1, Agra to Orchha (about 250 km). Via Gwalior, with a stop at the fort and the Sas-Bahu temples, reaching Orchha by late afternoon for the riverside chhatris at sunset.
- Day 2, Orchha to Khajuraho (about 175 km). The Jahangir Mahal and Ram Raja temple in the morning, then on to Khajuraho for the Western Group of temples and the evening light show.
- Day 3, Khajuraho to Agra (about 390 km). A long drive home, or a one-way drop at Jhansi station for the train.
The loop is roughly 800 km over three days, charged on actual distance, Rs 62,400 Pay Now to Reserve in a Traveller, plus two allowance nights, Madhya Pradesh permit charges, tolls and GST.
Tempo traveller vs Gatimaan Express plus cabs
| 12 visitors doing Delhi to Agra and back in a day | What it involves | Door to door | Taj, Fort and Fatehpur Sikri in one day | Luggage |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| One 12 seat Traveller from Delhi | About Rs 36,350 plus tolls and GST | Yes | Yes, same vehicle | Inside the vehicle |
| Gatimaan or Vande Bharat plus a local Traveller | Train tickets per head plus Rs 17,940 in Agra | No | Yes | Carry your own |
| Three cars from Delhi | Three bills, three drivers | Yes | Yes, group splits | Car boots |
The fast trains are excellent for couples and small groups travelling light. For larger families, or anyone who wants Fatehpur Sikri too, a single road vehicle is simpler and usually cheaper per head.
Areas we pick up from in Agra
Taj Ganj, Fatehabad Road, Taj East Gate Road, Shilpgram area, Sadar Bazar, Agra Cantt, Civil Lines, Sanjay Place, Belanganj, Rawatpara, Kinari Bazaar (from the nearest permitted point), Kamla Nagar, Dayal Bagh, Sikandra, Bodla, Shahganj, Khandari, Awas Vikas, Kalindi Vihar, Rambagh and Trans Yamuna, plus the hotels on the Gwalior and Mathura roads.
Allowance, state taxes and expressway notes
Allowance. Each night the vehicle stays away from Agra adds 750 to 1,500 rupees for the driver.
State taxes. Agra sits close to three state borders. Trips to Bharatpur and Jaipur enter Rajasthan, Gwalior and Orchha enter Madhya Pradesh, and Delhi drops enter the capital, each of which may involve a tax or entry charge for tourist vehicles; we pay it and show the receipt on your bill.
Expressways. The Yamuna Expressway to Greater Noida and the Agra-Lucknow Expressway are tolled and fast, but winter fog brings speed limits down sharply. National tourism information for the Taj and the Braj region is on Incredible India.
School groups, foreign tours and weddings
Schools and colleges visit Agra in the cooler months from October to March. A 26 seat Traveller or a 27 seat mini bus suits most class groups; we ask for a teacher's name and a passenger list with every booking.
Foreign tour groups and NRI families often combine Agra with Delhi and Jaipur. Guides can join the group in the Traveller, and we can arrange sedans for guests who want to split off; families from abroad can also use our NRI car hire in India service for the rest of their stay.
Weddings at the hotels along Fatehabad Road and Taj East Gate Road are increasingly popular, many with Taj-view sundowners before the ceremony. Travellers run guest shuttles between hotels and venues, and we plan around the Friday Taj closure when guests want a visit.
Business visitors from the city's leather, footwear and handicraft trades often host buyers in groups; a Traveller with a GST invoice keeps the visit tidy, and card or UPI payment is accepted.
Mehtab Bagh and the other bank
Across the Yamuna from the Taj, Mehtab Bagh is a restored Mughal garden aligned with the mausoleum, and at sunset it offers the classic reflection view without the crowds of the main complex. The Traveller reaches it by the bridge north of Agra Fort in about twenty minutes from Taj Ganj. Nearby Itimad-ud-Daulah and the Chini ka Rauza make a quiet afternoon on the same side of the river.
Fatehpur Sikri, done properly
Akbar's red-sandstone capital deserves more than a rushed hour. Vehicles stop at the official parking below the ridge, and a shuttle bus takes visitors up to the complex. There are two parts: the royal palaces (ticketed, managed by the Archaeological Survey) and the Jama Masjid with the white marble tomb of Salim Chishti and the towering Buland Darwaza (free, with shoes removed at the gate). Hawkers and unofficial guides can be persistent near the mosque; licensed guides are available at the ticket office. Allow two to three hours, carry socks for the hot stone courtyards in summer, and keep the visit early or late in the day from April to June.
Taj Mahotsav, shopping and Agra evenings
Every February, the Taj Mahotsav at Shilpgram near the Taj's East Gate brings ten days of crafts, food and folk performances from across India, and it is a relaxed evening outing for groups. Year-round, Agra's evenings are for shopping and food: marble-inlay workshops and showrooms on Fatehabad Road, leather and footwear on MG Road and Hing ki Mandi, and petha and dalmoth sweets in Sadar Bazar, followed by dinner at one of the Taj-view rooftop restaurants. A 4 hour / 40 km evening package, Rs 10,770 Pay Now to Reserve, covers most of this; the driver drops the group at each stop and moves the vehicle to the nearest lot.
Regular, Maharaja and Urbania cabins in Agra
Regular Traveller. Pushback seats, roof AC with outlets over each row, reading lights and charging points; the choice for school groups, pilgrims and budget tours.
Maharaja Traveller. Nine big recliners and curtains in the same van, priced like the standard body; foreign guests and elders appreciate it on the expressway runs.
Force Urbania. A car-like cabin with individual recliners and vents, less noise and a gentler ride over Agra's speed breakers, at Rs 102 a kilometre and Rs 24,840 Pay Now to Reserve for a city day. Tour operators use it for premium Golden Triangle groups.
Weather, timings and traffic in Agra
- October to March is peak season, and December and January mornings can be very foggy. Yamuna Expressway speed limits drop in fog, so allow extra time for Delhi drops and early trains.
- April to June is very hot; plan outdoor monuments for early morning and late afternoon.
- July to September brings monsoon showers and fewer tourists, which means shorter queues at the Taj.
- City roads around the Taj Ganj area, Sadar Bazaar and the MG Road stretch slow down in the evenings; the driver will suggest the best order for your stops.
How much is a tempo traveller in Agra in 2026? Rates at a glance
Fares updated September 2026. Agra's city packages carry a 0.92 factor, making them among the lowest on our card, while trips out of Agra use the national kilometre rates. Each column below is one vehicle; each row is one part of the bill.
| Agra price element | Standard Traveller (9, 12, 17) | Long Traveller (20, 26) | Urbania | Mini bus |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kilometre rate on day trips and tours | Rs 78 | quoted per trip | Rs 102 | Rs 130 |
| Kilometres counted at minimum for each outstation date | 250 | 250 | 250 | 250 |
| Driver's overnight allowance | 750 to 1,500 rupees | 750 to 1,500 rupees | 750 to 1,500 rupees | 750 to 1,500 rupees |
| Half day in Agra, 4 hr / 40 km | Rs 10,770 Pay Now to Reserve | quoted per trip | Rs 14,910 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 23,190 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Full day in Agra, 8 hr / 80 km | Rs 17,940 Pay Now to Reserve | quoted per trip | Rs 24,840 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 38,640 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Extended day, 12 hr / 120 km | Rs 30,030 Pay Now to Reserve | quoted per trip | Rs 41,340 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 63,360 Pay Now to Reserve |
The extended day is the full-day fare times 1.5 plus 40 km at the kilometre rate. For trips outside Agra, the minimum explains most bills: Mathura-Vrindavan, Bharatpur and Gwalior all come in under 250 km and so cost the same Rs 19,500 Pay Now to Reserve in a Traveller.
Traveller sizes for Agra visitors
9 seat Maharaja Traveller
Nine deep recliners with room between them. Foreign families on the Golden Triangle, grandparents on the Braj parikrama, and NRI relatives arriving off the Gatimaan Express with big suitcases all choose it. The kilometre rate is the standard Rs 78.
12 seat Traveller
The practical choice for Agra, since it fits the approach roads to Fatehabad Road hotels and the tighter lanes of Vrindavan and Mathura, with a luggage space behind the last row. Seat plans are on the 12 seater tempo traveller page.
17 seat Traveller
Best value for school classes, tour groups and wedding shuttles on Fatehabad Road. With seventeen travellers and suitcases, space gets tight on multi-day tours; fifteen is more comfortable.
20 seat Traveller
Suited to the Yamuna and Agra-Lucknow expressways and one-way drops to Delhi or Jaipur with light luggage. Less happy in the old Kinari Bazaar area. Quoted per trip.
26 seat Traveller
For school and college groups doing Taj, Agra Fort and Fatehpur Sikri in a day. For thirty or more, or for heavy luggage, choose a mini bus on rent or a coach through bus on rent; for five or six, an Innova Crysta on rent is cheaper.
Seven trips from Agra and what they cost
The distance on the bill is the real round trip or 250 km for each calendar day, whichever is greater. GST, tolls, state taxes for Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh or Delhi, parking and allowance nights are extra.
| Leaving Agra for | Traveller fare | Mini bus fare | Urbania fare | Km billed | Approx. round trip | Days away |

A family of twelve splitting the Mathura-Vrindavan day pays about Rs 1,620 each before extras. For how the billing works, see our fares page.
Pickups, comfort and on-board rules
We meet groups at Agra Cantt, Agra Fort and Raja ki Mandi stations, Kheria airport (limited flights, about 7 km from the Taj), hotels across Fatehabad Road and Taj Ganj, and anywhere in the city. At the airport, the driver tracks your flight and meets you with a name board, and waiting is free for 60 minutes after an international arrival and 30 minutes after a domestic one; after that the hourly rate applies.
Every vehicle is within four model years, with pushback or captain seats, roof AC, reading lights and charging points. It arrives cleaned, with a medical kit on board. Smoking and alcohol are not allowed inside, and the driver has the final say on safety, including slowing right down in dense winter fog. For a quieter premium cabin, compare the Force Urbania on rent. Smaller parties can see car fares on our Agra taxi service.
