Hiring a tempo traveller in Delhi is the simplest way to move a family of twelve, a baraat party or a department of twenty without splitting everyone across four cabs and three WhatsApp groups. RutzIndia.com rents Force Travellers from 9 to 26 seats with a driver, fuel and AC included, for local use inside Delhi NCR, airport runs from IGI and outstation tours to Agra, Jaipur, Haridwar, Rishikesh, Shimla, Manali and the Char Dham. Fares are fixed before you travel and you can book online in a few minutes.
Tempo traveller on rent in Delhi: price at a glance
A tempo traveller on rent in Delhi costs Rs 11,700 Pay Now to Reserve for 4 hours / 40 km, Rs 19,500 Pay Now to Reserve for a full 8 hours / 80 km day and Rs 10,740 Pay Now to Reserve for an IGI airport transfer. Outstation trips are Rs 78 per km with a minimum of 250 km per day, before 5% GST, tolls and state taxes.
The table below uses Delhi's base rate card (city multiplier 1.00). Local packages include fuel, driver and AC for the stated hours and kilometres; extra time and distance are billed pro rata at the same rates. The Traveller fares apply to the standard 9 to 17 seat bodies; 20 and 26 seat Travellers are quoted on request because fewer are on the road and they cost more to run.
| Vehicle | Seats | 4 hr / 40 km | 8 hr / 80 km | IGI airport (up to 40 km) | Outstation |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tempo Traveller | 9 / 12 / 17 (20, 26 on request) | Rs 11,700 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 19,500 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 10,740 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 78/km |
| Force Urbania | 10 / 13 / 17 | Rs 16,200 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 27,000 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 14,850 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 102/km |
| Mini bus | 20 / 27 / 35 | Rs 25,200 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 42,000 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 23,100 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 134.4/km |
All prices are before 5% GST. Tolls, interstate permits and state entry taxes, and parking are added at actual cost with receipts. On multi-day trips a driver night allowance of Rs 1,500 per night applies, and outstation round trips are billed on at least 250 km for each calendar day.

How much is a tempo traveller in Delhi in 2026? Seat-by-seat rates
Fares updated September 2026. The table sets every seat size against the four numbers that decide an outstation bill: the per-km rate, the minimum kilometres charged per day, the driver's night allowance and the local day package. Use it to compare like with like before you book.
| Seat size (Delhi) | Seating layout | Outstation rate | Billing floor per day | Driver night allowance | Local 8 hr / 80 km |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 9 seater Maharaja | 1+1 reclining captain chairs | Rs 78/km | 250 km | Rs 1,500 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 19,500 Pay Now to Reserve |
| 12 seater | 2+1 pushback seats | Rs 78/km | 250 km | Rs 1,500 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 19,500 Pay Now to Reserve |
| 17 seater | 2+1 pushback with rear row | Rs 78/km | 250 km | Rs 1,500 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 19,500 Pay Now to Reserve |
| 20 seater | 2+1, longer body | quoted on request | 250 km | Rs 1,500 Pay Now to Reserve | quoted on request |
| 26 seater | 2+2, longest body | quoted on request | 250 km | Rs 1,500 Pay Now to Reserve | quoted on request |
| Force Urbania 13 | individual reclining seats | Rs 102/km | 250 km | Rs 1,500 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 27,000 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Mini bus 27 | 2+2 coach seats | Rs 134.4/km | 250 km | Rs 1,500 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 42,000 Pay Now to Reserve |
Two worked examples help. A three-day Haridwar-Rishikesh-Mussoorie trip in a 12 seater that actually covers 640 km is billed on 750 km (3 x 250), so the kilometre charge is Rs 58,500 Pay Now to Reserve, plus two driver nights of Rs 1,500 each, tolls, Uttarakhand state tax and GST. A single-day Agra trip of 466 km is simply 466 x Rs 78, Rs 36,350 Pay Now to Reserve, with no night allowance because the driver is home the same night.
Every Traveller size explained for Delhi groups
The number on the brochure only tells you how many seats there are. What matters in Delhi is how that body behaves in a Chandni Chowk lane, on the Yamuna Expressway and on the climb above Kalka, and how much luggage it swallows. Here is how we match sizes to the trips people actually book from the capital.
9 seater Maharaja Traveller
Four rows of wide captain chairs with an aisle between them, armrests, individual reading lights and more knee room than a business-class seat on a short-haul flight. Delhi families book it for grandparents on the Char Dham, NRI relatives landing at T3 with jet lag, and senior management moving between Aerocity hotels and Gurgaon offices. Because only nine people share the cabin, there is room for nine full-size suitcases inside plus the roof carrier, which is why it is the default for foreign tourists doing the Golden Triangle. The rate is the same Rs 78 per km as a 12 or 17 seater, so you pay for comfort in fewer heads per vehicle rather than a higher tariff.
12 seater Traveller
The most booked size in Delhi NCR. Twelve pushback seats in a 2+1 layout, a rear luggage space behind the last row and a covered roof carrier. It is short enough to reach farmhouse gates in Chhattarpur and the lanes of Old Delhi, and on hill roads to Mussoorie or Nainital it turns tighter than longer bodies. Two families on a Mathura-Vrindavan darshan, a cousins' Rishikesh rafting weekend or a small office team heading to Neemrana all fit comfortably. For layouts and photos, see our 12 seater tempo traveller page.
17 seater Traveller
Five more seats in a slightly longer body, still in 2+1 format with a full-width back row. This is the value choice when every seat is filled: a school class trip to the Taj, a wedding shuttle between Karol Bagh hotels and a Chhattarpur venue, or a society outing to Damdama Lake. Luggage is the constraint. With 17 adults and suitcases for a week, the roof carrier fills quickly, so for long hill holidays we suggest 14 or 15 passengers and a lighter packing list.
20 seater Traveller
A longer wheelbase built for plains and expressways. It works well on the Delhi-Agra, Delhi-Jaipur and Delhi-Chandigarh highways and for large wedding loops across South Delhi and Gurgaon. It is less happy on the tight hairpins of Himachal and the narrow approach roads of some old-city hotels. We quote 20 seaters individually because fewer are available and they cost more to run; the billing rules (250 km per day minimum, night allowance, tolls at cost) are the same.
26 seater Traveller
The largest Traveller, with 2+2 seating and limited luggage space once every seat is occupied. Delhi schools, colleges and corporate teams use it for single-day outings to Sohna, Neemrana or Agra where bags are minimal. Above 26 people, or for groups carrying luggage for several days, two 12 or 17 seaters or a single mini bus on rent usually make more sense. For 35 to 45 guests, move up to bus on rent or a Volvo bus on rent.
If the headcount sits between sizes, compare a Force Urbania as well. Its monocoque body is quieter and smoother, it has individual AC vents and USB points, and it suits premium travel. See Urbania on rent for the full specification.

Trip cost from Delhi: eight popular group trips
Each row multiplies the billed kilometres by the per-km rate. Billed km is the higher of the actual round-trip distance and 250 km for every calendar day. Tolls, state taxes, parking, driver nights and 5% GST are added on top.
| Trip from Delhi | Round-trip distance | Days | Billed km | Tempo Traveller | Force Urbania | Mini bus | Driver nights |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Agra (Taj Mahal) | about 466 km | 1 | 466 km | Rs 36,350 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 47,530 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 62,910 Pay Now to Reserve | 0 |
| Vrindavan and Mathura | about 330 km | 1 | 330 km | Rs 25,740 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 33,660 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 44,550 Pay Now to Reserve | 0 |
| Jaipur | about 560 km | 2 | 560 km | Rs 43,680 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 57,120 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 75,600 Pay Now to Reserve | 1 |
| Haridwar and Rishikesh | about 480 km | 2 | 500 km | Rs 39,000 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 51,000 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 67,500 Pay Now to Reserve | 1 |
| Shimla | about 690 km | 2 | 690 km | Rs 53,820 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 70,380 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 93,150 Pay Now to Reserve | 1 |
| Nainital | about 600 km | 3 | 750 km | Rs 58,500 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 76,500 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 1,01,250 Pay Now to Reserve | 2 |
| Amritsar | about 900 km | 3 | 900 km | Rs 70,200 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 91,800 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 1,21,500 Pay Now to Reserve | 2 |
| Manali | about 1,080 km | 4 | 1,080 km | Rs 84,240 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 1,10,160 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 1,45,800 Pay Now to Reserve | 3 |
Divide by the number of travellers and a Traveller is usually the cheapest way for a group to move. Fifteen people sharing the Rs 39,000 Pay Now to Reserve Haridwar-Rishikesh weekend pay under Rs 2,700 each before GST and extras. Car fares for the same routes are on the Delhi to Shimla taxi, Delhi to Nainital taxi, Delhi to Amritsar taxi and Delhi to Mussoorie taxi pages, and the full price logic is explained on our fares page.
Group trips people book from Delhi
Delhi sits at the centre of the Golden Triangle and at the foot of the Himalayan highways, so the same vehicle can serve a Sunday temple run or a nine-day mountain loop. Typical itineraries and the maths behind them:
Agra and the Taj Mahal in a day
Delhi to Agra is about 233 km each way via the Yamuna Expressway, roughly 3.5 hours without stops. A same-day return is billed on 466 km, so a Traveller costs about Rs 36,350 Pay Now to Reserve (466 x Rs 78) plus the expressway tolls. The Taj Mahal is closed on Fridays, so plan the day accordingly. Single couples and small families can compare the Delhi to Agra taxi fares.
Haridwar, Rishikesh and the Char Dham
Delhi to Haridwar is about 220 km and Rishikesh about 240 km. A two-day Ganga aarti weekend is billed on the 500 km minimum (2 days x 250 km), so a Traveller works out to Rs 39,000 plus one driver night and tolls. The Delhi to Haridwar taxi and Delhi to Rishikesh taxi pages carry car fares for smaller parties. The Char Dham circuit from Delhi typically runs 10 to 12 days once the temples open around May; see the Char Dham yatra by car plan for stage-wise timings and the Uttarakhand registration you need before departure.
Manali, Shimla and the hills
Delhi to Manali is about 540 km, typically 12 hours on the road. A three-day minimum round trip is billed on 1,080 km, which comes to Rs 84,240 Pay Now to Reserve in a Traveller before tolls, Himachal entry tax and two or three driver nights; most groups stay five or six days and simply pay the extra 250 km per added day only if they use it. Rohtang Pass needs a separate online permit and some days are closed to diesel vehicles, so plan Solang and the Atal Tunnel as a backup. The Delhi to Manali taxi page has seasonal road notes.
Mathura, Vrindavan and Jaipur
Vrindavan is about 165 km from central Delhi, so a Holi or Janmashtami day trip in a Traveller is billed on 330 km, about Rs 25,740 Pay Now to Reserve. Jaipur is about 280 km via the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway spur and NH48; a two-day trip is billed on 560 km, about Rs 43,680 plus one driver night. Compare the Delhi to Vrindavan taxi and Delhi to Jaipur taxi for car options.

Weddings, corporate offsites and airport groups inside Delhi NCR
Weddings. Farmhouse venues in Chhattarpur, Sultanpur, Mehrauli and along the Gurgaon-Faridabad road often sit at the end of narrow lanes, so a 12 or 17 seat Traveller is easier to manoeuvre than a coach. Families use them to shuttle guests between hotels in Aerocity, Karol Bagh or Paharganj and the venue across the sangeet, mehendi and pheras. We recommend booking one Traveller per 12 to 15 guests per shift and staggering the runs by 45 minutes. Pair the fleet with a decorated sedan for the couple from our wedding car rental in Delhi range. November to February is peak shaadi season; December weekends and auspicious muhurat dates sell out six to eight weeks ahead.
Corporate groups. Offsites to Neemrana, Damdama Lake, Sohna, Jim Corbett or Rishikesh are easiest in a mini convoy of Travellers or Urbanias. Companies receive a single GST invoice with the vehicle number, driver name and duty slip for each day, and can pay by card, UPI or bank transfer through the booker. Conference traffic to Bharat Mandapam at Pragati Maidan and Yashobhoomi in Dwarka is another common use.
Airport groups. Pilgrim groups returning from Umrah, cricket teams, wedding guests flying in from abroad and conference delegates all land at Indira Gandhi International. Our driver tracks the flight, waits with a name board and allows 60 minutes of free waiting after an international arrival and 30 minutes after a domestic one; after that, waiting is billed at the hourly rate. Terminal details, including the pickup zones at T1 and T3, are published on the Delhi airport website. If only four or five of you are landing, a sedan from our Delhi airport taxi page is cheaper.
Delhi traffic, permits and parking: what affects your trip
- Rush hours. Ring Road, NH48 towards Gurgaon and the DND flyway slow to a crawl from about 8:30 to 11 am and 5:30 to 9 pm on weekdays. An 8 hour package that starts at 7 am covers far more sightseeing than one starting at 10 am.
- Pollution curbs. In winter the Graded Response Action Plan can restrict older diesel vehicles. Because our vehicles are within four model years, they meet BS-VI norms and are not caught by those curbs.
- Interstate travel. Commercial vehicles leaving Delhi pay state tax or permit fees in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Punjab where applicable. These are passed on at actual cost; you can read about tourist permits on the Parivahan portal.
- Parking. Monuments such as Qutub Minar, Humayun's Tomb and Red Fort have bus and coach bays. In Chandni Chowk and Connaught Place, the driver drops you and waits at a paid lot; parking is billed at actual cost.
- Pickup points. We collect from homes, hotels, metro stations such as Rajiv Chowk or Kashmere Gate, and colony gates in Noida and Gurgaon. Groups starting east of the Yamuna may prefer our tempo traveller in Noida team.
A five-day Delhi to Mussoorie and Rishikesh plan, day by day
Here is how a typical family holiday runs in a 12 seater, with the kilometres that drive the bill.
- Day 1, Delhi to Mussoorie (about 290 km). Pickup at 6 am from South Delhi, breakfast on the Meerut Expressway, lunch in Dehradun and arrival in Mussoorie by mid-afternoon. The driver parks at the hotel or the nearest permitted lot, since Mall Road is closed to vehicles for much of the day.
- Day 2, Mussoorie local (about 60 km). Kempty Falls, Company Garden and the drive to Dhanaulti. The 250 km daily floor applies even though the Traveller covers less.
- Day 3, Mussoorie to Rishikesh (about 80 km). Descend via Dehradun, check in near Tapovan or Laxman Jhula, and join the Triveni Ghat aarti in the evening.
- Day 4, Rishikesh and Haridwar (about 60 km). Morning rafting for the young, Neelkanth Mahadev for the devout, and Har ki Pauri aarti in Haridwar before returning to the hotel.
- Day 5, back to Delhi (about 240 km). Leave after breakfast to beat the evening rush into the city.
Actual distance is roughly 730 km, but five days carry a 1,250 km floor, so the kilometre charge is Rs 97,500 Pay Now to Reserve in a Traveller, plus four driver nights, tolls, Uttarakhand entry tax and GST. For fourteen people that is about Rs 6,960 each before extras.
Tempo traveller vs train, bus or several cabs from Delhi
| Option for 12 people, Delhi to Haridwar return | What it involves | Door-to-door? | Luggage | Flexibility |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| One 12 seater Traveller | Rs 39,000 Pay Now to Reserve for 2 days plus tolls, one night allowance and GST | Yes, home to hotel | Inside plus roof carrier | Stop anywhere, change plans on the day |
| Three sedans | Three separate bills, three drivers, cars get separated | Yes | Boot of each car | Hard to keep the group together |
| Train (Shatabdi or Jan Shatabdi) | Tickets per head, taxis at both ends | No | Carry your own | Fixed timings; seats sell out on festival dates |
| Roadways bus | Cheapest per head | No | Limited | Fixed stops, crowded on weekends |
Trains remain excellent for two or three travellers. The case for a Traveller grows with the headcount, the number of elders and the amount of luggage, and it wins outright when you want to visit places between stations, such as Neelkanth, Kempty Falls or Rajaji's forest gates.
Standard, Maharaja and Urbania: which cabin to choose
Delhi has the widest choice of group vehicles in India, and the labels can confuse. Here is what each actually means when you book with RutzIndia.com.
- Standard Traveller (12, 17, 20 or 26 seats): pushback seats with armrests in a 2+1 layout on the smaller sizes, roof-ducted AC, reading lights, a music system and charging points. It is the practical choice for most family, office and pilgrim trips.
- Maharaja Traveller (9 seats): the same Force Traveller body fitted with fewer, larger captain chairs. Many also have a small LED screen and curtains. It suits elders, NRI and foreign guests and executive groups who want lounge-style comfort on four-to-six-hour drives.
- Force Urbania (10, 13 or 17 seats): a newer, taller and more car-like van with a monocoque body, individual AC vents, better suspension and lower cabin noise. It costs Rs 102 per km and Rs 27,000 for an 8 hour Delhi day, and is the pick for corporate delegations, wedding VIPs and premium tour groups.
For all three, the vehicle is within four model years, the driver holds a commercial badge, and the fare includes fuel and AC. Ask for the cabin you want on the booking form, and we confirm the exact configuration with the vehicle number the evening before travel.
Group travel for Delhi's festivals and big events
Delhi's calendar decides vehicle availability more than the weather does. Around Holi, families head to Vrindavan and Barsana for the celebrations, and Travellers for that week are booked out early. Janmashtami repeats the Braj rush in August or September. The kanwar yatra in the Sawan month closes or diverts parts of the Delhi-Meerut and Haridwar roads for several days, so we reroute Uttarakhand trips or advise shifting the dates. Dussehra and Diwali bring family reunions, gift-shopping trips to Sadar Bazar and Chandni Chowk, and heavy evening traffic across the city. Christmas and New Year send groups to Shimla, Manali and Jim Corbett in the hope of snow. Delhi's big exhibitions at Bharat Mandapam and Yashobhoomi and cricket matches at Arun Jaitley Stadium also create short, sharp spikes in demand for Travellers and mini buses. When your dates overlap any of these, book two to six weeks early.
Areas we cover across Delhi NCR
Pickups at the Delhi rate card are available from every part of the capital region, including: Connaught Place, Karol Bagh, Paharganj, Chandni Chowk, Civil Lines, Rajouri Garden, Janakpuri, Dwarka, Vasant Kunj, Mehrauli, Chhattarpur, Saket, Greater Kailash, Lajpat Nagar, Defence Colony, Mayur Vihar, Preet Vihar, Rohini, Pitampura, Model Town, Aerocity, Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad, Indirapuram, Gurgaon and Faridabad. Railway groups are met at New Delhi, Old Delhi, Hazrat Nizamuddin and Anand Vihar stations, and bus groups at Kashmere Gate ISBT.
Driver allowance, state taxes and road rules on Delhi trips
Driver night allowance. When the Traveller stays away overnight, the driver receives Rs 1,500 per night for food and rest; the exact figure depends on the destination and whether your hotel provides a driver's room. Please make sure he gets a proper eight-hour break, which is also a safety matter on hill roads.
State taxes. A Delhi-registered tourist vehicle crossing into Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh or Punjab may pay a state tax or permit fee at the border or online, depending on its permit. We pay it and add the receipted amount to your bill.
Tolls. The expressways out of Delhi are tolled, including the Yamuna Expressway to Agra, the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway spur towards Jaipur and the Delhi-Meerut Expressway towards Haridwar. Toll rates for commercial vehicles are set by the national highways authority and listed on the NHAI website.
Speed and rest. Commercial vehicles follow lower speed limits than cars on expressways, and drivers stop for a break roughly every two to three hours.
On-board comfort and house rules
A long day in a Traveller is only as good as the cabin. Every vehicle is cleaned inside before pickup, carries a first-aid kit and a fire extinguisher, and has working AC, seat belts where fitted, reading lights and charging points. The driver will adjust the AC and music to the group's preference and stop for restrooms and meals roughly every two to three hours on the highway.
A few rules keep everyone safe and the vehicle ready for the next group: no smoking or alcohol inside the vehicle, no standing passengers beyond the registered seat count, and no overloading of the roof carrier. Children should occupy a seat of their own; infants can travel on a parent's lap as the law permits. Paan, gutka and messy food stain the upholstery, and a cleaning charge may apply if the interior needs specialist work afterwards. The driver has the final say on safety matters, including refusing to drive through a flooded underpass or up a snowbound road.
What is included, what is extra, and how booking works
Included: the vehicle with pushback seats, AC throughout the trip (switched off only on steep climbs where the engine needs it), fuel, a licensed driver with commercial badge, the driver's food and stay on local duties, first-aid kit and a clean interior at every pickup.
Extra at actual cost: tolls (the Yamuna Expressway and Delhi-Mumbai Expressway are tolled), state taxes and permits, parking, and monument or hill permits such as the Rohtang permit. Extra at a fixed rate: driver night allowance of Rs 1,500 per night on outstation trips, and extra hours or kilometres beyond your package.
Luggage. A 12 seater takes roughly one medium suitcase per passenger inside plus a covered roof carrier. Tell us about wedding trunks, golf bags or sound equipment so we send a vehicle with a larger boot or a second vehicle.
How to book. Enter your pickup address, date, seat count and itinerary on book online. You see the fixed fare, pay a part advance by card or UPI and receive the driver and vehicle details the evening before travel. For itineraries of more than three days or more than two vehicles, WhatsApp the desk or call us and we send a written quote. Cancellation is free more than 72 hours before pickup; 10% applies within 72 hours, 50% within 48 hours and 100% within 24 hours or on a no-show, as set out in our cancellation policy.
For a group of five or six, an Innova Crysta at Rs 12,600 Pay Now to Reserve for 8 hours is cheaper than a Traveller. Compare sedans, MUVs and SUVs on our taxi service in Delhi page, and see every Traveller size nationwide on tempo traveller on rent.
Why a chauffeur-driven Traveller beats self-arranged transport
A group that tries to manage with app cabs pays surge pricing at the airport, loses people at every stop and waits for the last car at every monument gate. One Traveller keeps everyone together, keeps luggage in one place and gives you a single point of contact. Our drivers know the Delhi to Chandigarh and Delhi to Dehradun highways, the hill roads above Kalka and Rishikesh, and where to pull in for clean restrooms and dhaba breaks. For a nine-day hill tour the difference between a well-rested driver and a tired one is everything, which is why we insist on the driver's night rest and plan hill sectors in daylight.
For long stays, such as a month of wedding preparations or a film shoot, ask about monthly car rental with driver, and for daily staff runs see corporate car rental. If you are flying in for a family function and want the whole visit handled, the travel desk can combine a Traveller for guests with sedans for elders and a decorated car for the couple, on one invoice.
