Six people, a reasonable budget and a road trip: that brief lands on the Maruti Ertiga more often than on any other car. It is light on fuel, easy to park, comfortable for four adults and two children or six adults on shorter runs, and it costs noticeably less per kilometre than an Innova. Book an Ertiga on rent with a driver through RutzIndia.com at Rs 42 per km for outstation travel or Rs 9,000 for an 8 hour city day, with the Kia Carens available in the same class.
Ertiga on rent: price list
An Ertiga on rent with driver costs Rs 42 per km for outstation trips, with a 250 km per day minimum on round trips (Rs 10,500 a day at least). Local hire is Rs 5,400 Pay Now to Reserve for 4 hours/40 km and Rs 9,000 Pay Now to Reserve for 8 hours/80 km, and an airport transfer up to 40 km is Rs 4,950 Pay Now to Reserve. Add 5% GST; tolls and parking are charged at actual cost.
The per-km fare is the same everywhere, while city packages shift a little with local costs. An 8 hour Ertiga day is Rs 9,000 Pay Now to Reserve in Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai and Pune, about Rs 9,900 Pay Now to Reserve in Mumbai and Goa, Rs 9,450 Pay Now to Reserve in Bangalore, Rs 8,550 Pay Now to Reserve in Jaipur or Kolkata and about Rs 8,280 Pay Now to Reserve in Lucknow.
| Trip | Km | Ertiga fare |
|---|---|---|
| Jammu to Katra, one way | 50 | Rs 4,950 Pay Now to Reserve (minimum fare applies) |
| Bangalore to Mysore, one way | 145 | Rs 6,090 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Mumbai to Pune, one way | 150 | Rs 6,300 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Chennai to Pondicherry, one way | 150 | Rs 6,300 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Delhi to Haridwar, one way | 220 | Rs 9,240 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Delhi to Agra, one way | 233 | Rs 9,790 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Mumbai to Shirdi, one way | 240 | Rs 10,080 Pay Now to Reserve |

| Bangalore to Ooty round trip, 2 days | 540 | Rs 22,680 Pay Now to Reserve |
The driver's night allowance of Rs 1,500 is added on trips with overnight stays, and state entry taxes are charged only where a checkpost actually collects them.

Who the Ertiga suits
Families of five or six on a budget. On a same-day Delhi to Agra trip the Ertiga costs Rs 19,570 Pay Now to Reserve against Rs 26,560 Pay Now to Reserve for an Innova Crysta on rent. Over a week-long tour that difference pays for a couple of hotel nights.
Airport pickups with moderate luggage. Three or four passengers with suitcases fit easily when the third row is folded; the boot then takes two large bags and cabin luggage. At Rs 4,950 Pay Now to Reserve for a transfer up to 40 km, it is our most economical way to move a family from the airport. See airport taxi for how pickups work.
City days. Shopping, family visits and sightseeing on the 8 hour / 80 km local package. The Ertiga's compact size helps in crowded markets and tight housing-society lanes.
Plains highways. Mumbai to Pune, Bangalore to Mysore, Chennai to Pondicherry, Delhi to Agra and Jaipur. On expressways it cruises comfortably at legal speeds.
When not to choose it. Six adults with full luggage on a 10 hour mountain drive will be happier in an Innova, which has more third-row legroom, more power on steep climbs and a sturdier ride on broken roads. For seven or more travellers, look at a 12 seater tempo traveller.
Inside the Ertiga: seats, luggage and comfort
The Ertiga is a three-row MPV. The front passenger seat and a three-seat middle bench take four people comfortably; the third row takes two adults for shorter journeys or two children for longer ones. Middle-row passengers can slide and recline their bench to share legroom with the back.
Rear AC vents in the roof reach the second and third rows, which matters in a north Indian May or a humid Chennai afternoon. With all six seats up, the boot takes a couple of soft bags; for six passengers on an outstation trip, the driver fits a roof carrier for suitcases, or we suggest travelling lighter. Manufacturer details are on the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga page.
The Kia Carens, supplied in the same class, is slightly larger inside with a more modern cabin, and some versions have captain seats in the middle row. If you have a preference, ask at booking; we confirm the model and number plate before your trip.

Ertiga for outstation and one-way trips
Outstation round trips are billed on actual distance or 250 km per calendar day, whichever is more. A few examples:
- Mumbai to Lonavala and back in a day: about 180 km, but the daily minimum means 250 km is billed, Rs 10,500 Pay Now to Reserve.
- Bangalore to Mysore and back in a day, with Srirangapatna: about 310 km billed, Rs 13,020 Pay Now to Reserve.
- Delhi to Jaipur round trip over two days: about 620 km including city sightseeing, Rs 26,040 Pay Now to Reserve, plus one night allowance.
One-way drops are charged on the route distance alone, which is why our Mumbai to Pune taxi at Rs 6,300 Pay Now to Reserve in an Ertiga is popular with students moving hostels and families shifting cities. Longer journeys and multi-city loops are covered under outstation cabs.
Ertiga route fares: one way and round trip
Round trips follow the usual number of days for each route and are billed on actual kilometres or 250 km a day, whichever is higher. Fares are before GST, tolls, parking, state tax and the driver's allowance on overnight trips.
| Ertiga route | Distance | Drop fare | Return fare | Days |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jammu to Katra | 50 km | Rs 4,950 Pay Now to Reserve (minimum fare applies) | Rs 10,500 Pay Now to Reserve | 1 |
| Bangalore to Mysore | 145 km | Rs 6,090 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 12,180 Pay Now to Reserve | 1 |
| Mumbai to Pune | 150 km | Rs 6,300 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 12,600 Pay Now to Reserve | 1 |
| Chennai to Pondicherry | 150 km | Rs 6,300 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 12,600 Pay Now to Reserve | 1 |
| Mumbai to Nashik | 170 km | Rs 7,140 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 14,280 Pay Now to Reserve | 1 |
| Pune to Shirdi | 185 km | Rs 7,770 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 15,540 Pay Now to Reserve | 1 |
| Delhi to Haridwar | 220 km | Rs 9,240 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 18,480 Pay Now to Reserve | 1 |
| Bangalore to Coorg | 265 km | Rs 11,130 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 22,260 Pay Now to Reserve | 2 |
| Hyderabad to Vijayawada | 275 km | Rs 11,550 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 23,100 Pay Now to Reserve | 1 |
| Delhi to Jaipur | 280 km | Rs 11,760 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 23,520 Pay Now to Reserve | 1 |
| Delhi to Shimla | 345 km | Rs 14,490 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 28,980 Pay Now to Reserve | 2 |
The Katra return is short, so the 250 km daily minimum sets the fare. Route guides include Bangalore to Mysore, Chennai to Pondicherry and Delhi to Haridwar.

Ertiga or Kia Carens: what is the difference?
Both are billed in the same class at Rs 42 per km, so the choice is about feel rather than price.
- Cabin: the Carens is a little longer and wider inside, with a more modern dashboard and often a larger boot behind the third row.
- Middle row: some Carens versions use two captain seats, making six seats in total and easier third-row access; the Ertiga uses a three-seat bench.
- Ride: both are comfortable on highways; the Ertiga is lighter and a touch nimbler in city traffic.
- Engine: Ertigas in commercial fleets are often petrol or CNG; Carens may be petrol or diesel. Both handle plains highways easily; for long hill climbs with six adults, an Innova is stronger.
If you prefer one model, tell us when booking and we confirm it with the registration number.
Ertiga for students, young professionals and small families
The Ertiga is the car we see most often for moves and short trips on a budget: students shifting hostels between Mumbai and Pune, young couples heading to Lonavala or Nandi Hills with friends, and families of five visiting relatives across town on a Sunday. It is also a sensible choice for elderly parents who find sedans too low to get out of; the Ertiga's seat height is closer to a chair. For weekend inspiration across India, the Incredible India portal lists destinations and festival dates by state.
Mileage-friendly, but billed per km
A common question is whether a CNG Ertiga should be cheaper. Our fare is set per kilometre for the class, whatever the fuel, so you pay the same Rs 42 per km for petrol, CNG or diesel versions. What changes the bill is distance, days on round trips, tolls and parking. CNG cars occasionally need a refuelling stop on long highway days, which the driver plans at stations on the way so it coincides with a tea break.
Worked example: an East Coast Road weekend from Chennai
Five friends take an Ertiga from Chennai to Mahabalipuram and Pondicherry, returning the next evening.
| Day | Plan | Approx km |
|---|---|---|
| Saturday | Chennai to Mahabalipuram (Shore Temple, Five Rathas), lunch, on to Pondicherry | 160 |
| Sunday morning | Pondicherry: French Quarter, Promenade, Auroville | 40 |
| Sunday evening | Pondicherry to Chennai along the ECR | 150 |
About 350 km driven, but two calendar days carry a 500 km minimum, so 500 km is billed: Rs 21,000 Pay Now to Reserve at Rs 42 per km. Add one night allowance, ECR tolls, parking and GST. Split five ways, the car costs about Rs 4,200 each for the weekend before extras, less than most bus-and-auto combinations once you add local transport in Pondicherry. A one-day version, with a same-day return, would be billed on the actual distance of about 300 km, Rs 12,600 Pay Now to Reserve.
Arriving with the family: an Ertiga airport pickup
A family of four lands at Hyderabad with two large suitcases and two cabin bags. The Ertiga's third row is folded before pickup, which leaves a boot big enough for all four bags. The driver tracks the flight, meets the family at the arrivals exit with a name board, and has 60 minutes of free waiting after an international landing (30 minutes after a domestic one). Rajiv Gandhi airport sits well south of HITEC City and Gachibowli, so many transfers exceed 40 km and add a few extra kilometres to the Rs 4,950 transfer fare. Our airport taxi page explains how transfers are priced city by city.
Ertigas for field teams and interns
Companies with sales teams, auditors or interns visiting several sites a day often find a six-seater more useful than two sedans. An Ertiga carries a team of four with laptops and sample kits, costs Rs 9,000 Pay Now to Reserve for an 8 hour city day at base rates, and waits at each stop. Monthly bookings can be invoiced together with GST, and the same driver can be assigned for continuity, which helps when the team visits the same client sites every week and the driver learns the gates, parking and security desks.
Taking an Ertiga into the hills
With four or five passengers and sensible luggage, an Ertiga climbs to Lonavala, Mahabaleshwar, Nandi Hills, Yercaud, Mussoorie and Shimla without fuss. The driver uses lower gears on long descents and keeps the AC off on the steepest climbs if the engine needs full power. For six adults with suitcases on long Himalayan routes such as Manali or the Char Dham circuit, we recommend moving up to an Innova Crysta, which has the torque and ground clearance those roads demand. Whatever the car, we plan hill legs to finish before dark where possible.
Ertigas in the wedding season
Between November and February, Ertigas are popular for guest pickups from railway stations and airports, for relatives shuttling between the family home and the venue, and as a budget alternative to Innovas in a baraat convoy. They are booked by the day with extra hours agreed in advance, and a clean white Ertiga with a little floral decoration looks smart in any convoy. For the couple's own car, see wedding car rental.
Weekend ideas from the big cities
- From Mumbai and Pune: Lonavala and Khandala in the monsoon, Mahabaleshwar for strawberries in winter, Shirdi and Nashik for darshan and vineyards. The Maharashtra Tourism site lists festivals and hill-station events.
- From Delhi: Agra for the Taj, Neemrana's fort, Vrindavan and Mathura, and Haridwar for the evening aarti.
- From Bangalore: Mysore, Nandi Hills at sunrise, Chikmagalur coffee country and Coorg.
- From Chennai: Mahabalipuram and Pondicherry along the East Coast Road.
- From Hyderabad: Vijayawada, Warangal's heritage sites and Srisailam.
Worked example: a six-day Golden Triangle in an Ertiga
A family of five, parents with three teenagers, takes an Ertiga from Delhi to Agra and Jaipur and back over six days, following our Golden Triangle tour by car outline.
- Day 1: Delhi sightseeing, about 60 km. Day 2: Delhi to Agra, about 233 km. Day 3: Taj Mahal at sunrise and Agra Fort, then Fatehpur Sikri on the way to Jaipur, about 240 km.
- Day 4: Jaipur's Amer Fort, City Palace and bazaars, about 50 km. Day 5: a day trip to Abhaneri stepwell or Sambhar, about 190 km. Day 6: Jaipur back to Delhi, about 280 km.
- Driven total: about 1,053 km. Six-day minimum: 1,500 km. The minimum is higher, so 1,500 km is billed.
- Fare: 1,500 km at Rs 42 = Rs 63,000 Pay Now to Reserve, plus five night allowances at Rs 1,500 each.
- Tolls, Rajasthan entry tax if collected, and monument parking at actual cost; 5% GST on the fare.
In an Innova the same six days would be billed at Rs 85,500 Pay Now to Reserve. For families who do not need the extra third-row space, the Ertiga saves about Rs 22,500 Pay Now to Reserve over the week.
Ertiga or sedan for four passengers?
A compact sedan at Rs 36 per km is the cheapest option for up to four people with light luggage. The Ertiga at Rs 42 per km is worth the small premium when you carry more bags than a sedan boot can take, when someone needs to stretch out on a long drive, or when a fifth traveller joins at the last minute. For airport runs with two large suitcases and cabin bags for four, the Ertiga with its third row folded is the more comfortable choice.
Travelling with children and elders
Put grandparents in the middle row, where the step-in height is low and the bench reclines; it is the smoothest place in the car. Children fit well in the third row on city and expressway runs, and you are welcome to bring your own child seat for the middle row; tell us in advance so the driver keeps that seat clear. On long drives, plan a break every two hours; the main highways out of Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore all have clean food courts and fuel stations with washrooms. Carry motion-sickness tablets for winding roads such as the Lonavala ghat or the climb to Nandi Hills.
How booking works
- Enter pickup, destination, date and passenger count in the online booker, or WhatsApp the desk.
- We confirm the car class, the model where requested, and a written fare listing inclusions.
- Pay an advance by card or UPI; the balance is settled at the end of the trip.
- The driver's name, number and car registration reach you the evening before.
Included: the car, fuel, the driver and air conditioning for your package distance and time. Not included: 5% GST, tolls, state entry tax where collected, parking, and the driver's night allowance on outstation stays. Extra kilometres and hours beyond a local package are charged at the rates stated in your quote.
Airport pickups include flight tracking and a name board at arrivals, with 60 minutes of free waiting for international flights and 30 minutes for domestic, after which waiting is billed by the hour.
Vehicle standards and cancellation
Every Ertiga or Carens we send is a commercially registered, yellow-plate tourist vehicle no more than four model years old, cleaned before each trip. Drivers are experienced on the routes they cover, and we plan hill legs to finish before dark where possible.
Our cancellation policy is the same for every car: cancel more than 72 hours before pickup for free, pay 10% within 72 hours, 50% within 48 hours, and the full fare within 24 hours or on a no-show.
When to book
Ertigas are among the first cars booked on long weekends, around Diwali and Holi, over Christmas and New Year, and for Saturday weddings from November to February. Book a week or two ahead for those dates. Otherwise, a day's notice is usually enough, and in the metros same-day airport or local bookings are often possible. Prefer a sedan for two or three people? Our general cab booking page covers every class from compact sedans upward.
