Jaipur and Udaipur are the two cities almost every Rajasthan itinerary includes, and the 395 km between them is where a private car beats every alternative. Trains are few and slow on this line, flights involve airports at both ends, and buses do not stop at Chittorgarh or Nathdwara. A Jaipur to Udaipur taxi from RutzIndia.com collects you from your haveli or hotel in the Pink City and drops you at your lakeside door in Udaipur, with a fixed per-km fare, a chauffeur who has driven the route many times, and a car within four model years.
How much is a Jaipur to Udaipur taxi in 2026?
A Jaipur to Udaipur one way taxi costs Rs 14,220 Pay Now to Reserve in a compact sedan (about 395 km at Rs 36/km) and Rs 22,510 Pay Now to Reserve in an Innova Crysta. A two-day round trip is billed on 790 km, Rs 28,440 Pay Now to Reserve by sedan. Fares are before 5% GST; highway tolls and parking are paid at actual.
Both cities are in Rajasthan, so there is no interstate permit on this drive, only the toll plazas on the national highway, which we bill at the receipt amount. Round trips are billed on the higher of the actual kilometres or 250 km per calendar day. For Jaipur-Udaipur-Jaipur that means 790 km for a two or three day trip and 1,000 km if you keep the car for four days.
| Car class | One way (395 km) | 2 or 3 day return (790 km) | 4 day return (1,000 km billed) |

Every night the car stays out adds a driver night allowance of Rs 1,500. For a detour, say to Pushkar or Kumbhalgarh, the extra kilometres are billed at the same per-km rate; our fare calculator gives the exact figure.
Reserve a Jaipur to Udaipur cab

Two good roads south
Your driver will pick between two routes, depending on whether you want the fastest drive or a particular stop.
Via Kishangarh, Bhilwara and Chittorgarh
The main route follows NH-48, part of the Golden Quadrilateral, south-west from Jaipur to Kishangarh, then down through Nasirabad and Bhilwara to Chittorgarh and on to Udaipur. It is a wide, divided highway most of the way, which makes it the most relaxed option for a long day, and it passes right below Chittorgarh Fort.
Via Ajmer, Beawar and Nathdwara
The alternative goes through Ajmer and Beawar, then south through Bhim and Rajsamand to Nathdwara and Udaipur. It suits pilgrims who want Shrinathji darshan at Nathdwara, and it is the natural route if you are starting with the Ajmer Sharif dargah or Pushkar.
Either way, leave Jaipur by 7 am. The first hour through the city's southern edge and the Ajmer Road junctions is the slowest part of the day; after Kishangarh the road opens up.
Where to stop between Jaipur and Udaipur
A one-way drop can include stops on the way at no extra charge beyond any added kilometres and parking.
- Kishangarh, about 100 km from Jaipur, is known for its marble market and the stark white dumping yard that has become a photo spot.
- Ajmer and Pushkar. The dargah of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti in Ajmer is a short detour from the highway, and Pushkar with its lake and Brahma temple is about 15 km beyond Ajmer. Allow two to three hours for both.
- Chittorgarh Fort. The largest fort in India and part of the UNESCO-listed Hill Forts of Rajasthan, it sits about 115 km before Udaipur. The Wikipedia article on Chittorgarh Fort is a good primer on the Vijay Stambh, the palace of Rani Padmini and the fort's three sieges. A car can drive up and around the fort's main road, which makes a two-hour visit comfortable even for elderly travellers.
- Nathdwara. The Shrinathji temple, about 48 km north of Udaipur, is one of the most important Vaishnav shrines in India. Darshan happens in short windows called jhankis through the day, with long gaps between them, so check the day's schedule and let your driver time the arrival. Phones and leather items are generally not allowed inside.
- Haldighati and Kumbhalgarh, reached from the Nathdwara side, turn the drive into a two-day trip; Kumbhalgarh's great wall is best seen in the late afternoon.

Udaipur arrival: drop points and the old city
Udaipur's heart is the old city around Lake Pichola, with narrow lanes near the City Palace, Jagdish Temple, Gangaur Ghat and Lal Ghat. Larger cars cannot always reach the door of a small haveli hotel; your driver will get as close as the lanes allow and help with bags to the entrance or arrange a porter. Lake-palace hotels on the islands are reached by the hotel's own boat from a jetty, where we drop you. Other common drops are the hotels around Fateh Sagar, the Ambamata and Hiran Magri areas, Udaipur City railway station and Maharana Pratap airport at Dabok. Rajasthan Tourism's Udaipur destination guide and the district's official Udaipur website are useful for planning your days in the city.
Once you arrive, a local Udaipur taxi on the 8 hour / 80 km package covers the City Palace, Saheliyon ki Bari, Fateh Sagar and a sunset at Ambrai Ghat, or a day trip to Ranakpur's Jain temples.
Jaipur to Udaipur distance, timing and toll plazas
The figures below follow the main NH-48 route. Distances are rounded and times assume an early start; the six-lane sections are tolled, and each plaza is billed at actual rather than estimated.
| Leg | Distance (about) | Typical time | Tolled? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jaipur (Ajmer Road) to Kishangarh | 100 km | 1 hr 30 min | Yes |
| Kishangarh to Bhilwara via Nasirabad | 125 km | 1 hr 45 min | Yes |
| Bhilwara to Chittorgarh | 60 km | 50 min | Yes |
| Chittorgarh to Udaipur | 115 km | 1 hr 45 min | Yes |
| Whole route, driving only | about 395-400 km | about 6.5 hrs | Several plazas at actual |
The Beawar-Rajsamand-Nathdwara alternative is of similar length and also tolled in places. Current national highway toll information is published by the National Highways Authority of India.

Car, train, flight, bus or self-drive: which suits you?
| Option | Door to door? | Sights on the way | Luggage and elders | Cost basis |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chauffeur taxi | Yes, hotel to hotel | Chittorgarh, Nathdwara, Pushkar as you choose | Easy | Rs 14,220 Pay Now to Reserve sedan or Rs 22,510 Pay Now to Reserve Innova for the whole car |
| Train | No, stations at both ends | None | Porters needed | A ticket per person; direct services are limited |
| Flight | No, and often a connection | None | Baggage rules apply | A ticket per person plus two airport transfers |
| Bus (RSRTC or private sleeper) | No, bus stands | None | Hold luggage only | A seat per person |
| Self-drive | Yes | Any | You drive 400 km | Rental, fuel, tolls and parking |
For couples with a relaxed schedule, the car turns a transfer day into a sightseeing day, because Chittorgarh and Nathdwara sit on the road itself. Udaipur's airport is at Dabok, about 22 km east of the city according to the Maharana Pratap Airport entry, so flyers still need a car at that end.

Nathdwara lies on the Banas river about 48 km north-east of Udaipur, and Kumbhalgarh is famous for a fortification wall that runs for about 36 km. If you want the same car for a longer Rajasthan loop, add Jodhpur with a Jodhpur taxi service, or plan from the capital with the Delhi to Jaipur taxi. Families of six travel best in an Innova Crysta on rent, and first-time visitors often begin with the Golden Triangle tour by car before heading south. Drops without a return follow our one way taxi pricing.
Weddings, groups and luxury cars on this route
Udaipur is one of India's favourite destination-wedding cities, and many guests start their journey in Jaipur. Families moving together book a Tempo Traveller in Udaipur or from Jaipur, while the wedding party often wants something grander for arrival day: an E-Class, a BMW 5 Series, a Range Rover or a Vellfire from our luxury car rental in Udaipur collection. For the baraat itself, speak to the desk about a vintage car or a Rolls-Royce; those are quoted on request. During the wedding season from November to February, cars in Udaipur book up weeks ahead, so reserve early, and ask for a GST invoice if a company or event planner is paying.
What your fare covers, and what it does not
Knowing exactly what you are paying for avoids awkward conversations at the end of a long day.
- Included: the car and its fuel, the chauffeur's wages and meals, air conditioning throughout, a vehicle within four model years, and stops on the way that do not add distance.
- Charged at actual: toll plazas on NH-48 or the Beawar road, parking at Chittorgarh, Pushkar, Nathdwara and hotel car parks, and monument entry tickets.
- Added on multi-day trips: a driver night allowance of Rs 1,500 per night; most hotels in Udaipur and Chittorgarh have drivers' rooms, but let us know if yours does not.
- Not included: 5% GST, which appears as a separate line on your invoice.
Families from Jaipur heading to a wedding often combine the drive with a separate booking for the ceremony days: a wedding car rental in Jaipur for the send-off and a Tempo Traveller in Jaipur to carry relatives and luggage south together. The desk can quote both on one invoice.
Seasons, festivals and road conditions
October to March is the best time for this drive, with cool mornings and clear skies. Summer from April to June brings daytime temperatures above 40 degrees on the plains around Bhilwara, so an early start matters. The monsoon, roughly July to September, turns the Aravallis green and fills Udaipur's lakes, but heavy showers slow the highway for short spells.
Busy periods include Diwali, the Christmas and New Year week when Udaipur hotels are full, and the spring Gangaur festival, when processions close lanes near Gangaur Ghat. Sheep and cattle on the road are common after Bhilwara, especially at dusk, which is one reason our drivers prefer to arrive before dark.
Booking, pickup points and the rules we work to
We pick up anywhere in Jaipur: hotels in C-Scheme, MI Road, Bani Park and the old walled city, homes in Malviya Nagar, Vaishali Nagar and Mansarovar, Jaipur Junction, and Jaipur airport at Sanganer. For airport pickups we track your flight, meet you with a name board and wait free for 60 minutes after international arrivals and 30 minutes after domestic ones; after that the waiting is billed at the hourly rate on your booking.
- Choose one way or round trip and the car on the booking page.
- Pay the advance by card or UPI; GST is shown separately.
- Receive the chauffeur's details the evening before.
- Pay the balance, tolls and parking at the end.
Cancellation is free more than 72 hours before pickup, 10% within 72 hours, 50% within 48 hours and 100% within 24 hours or for a no-show; see our cancellation policy. If Jaipur and Udaipur are two stops on a longer journey, our Rajasthan tour by car includes Jodhpur and Jaisalmer, and travellers arriving from the Taj can start with our Agra to Jaipur taxi.
