Between Telangana's capital and Andhra Pradesh's busiest commercial city runs one of South India's most travelled highways, and a Hyderabad to Vijayawada taxi is often faster door to door than a flight once you add airport time at both ends. RutzIndia.com runs this route for business travellers heading to meetings in the Amaravati region, families visiting relatives across the Krishna, students returning after holidays and devotees going to Kanaka Durga temple. The fare is fixed by kilometres, the car is within four model years, and the chauffeur has driven NH65 through every festival rush.
How much is a Hyderabad to Vijayawada taxi in 2026?
Fares updated September 2026.
A Hyderabad to Vijayawada one way taxi is Rs 9,900 Pay Now to Reserve in a compact sedan (275 km at Rs 36/km) and Rs 15,670 Pay Now to Reserve in an Innova Crysta. A same-day return is billed on 550 km: Rs 19,800 Pay Now to Reserve sedan, Rs 31,350 Pay Now to Reserve Innova. Fares are before 5% GST, with tolls and the inter-state permit at actual.
Round trips are billed on whichever is greater: the real return distance or 250 km for each calendar day. For Vijayawada, that has a useful side effect. Because the return trip is already 550 km, a two-day round trip with an overnight stay in Vijayawada is billed on the same 550 km as a same-day return; the only addition is the chauffeur's night allowance of Rs 1,500. A three-day trip rises to the 750 km minimum.
| Car | Per km | One way, 275 km | Return, 1 or 2 days (550 km) | Return, 3 days (750 km) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Compact sedan (Dzire, Amaze) | Rs 36 | Rs 9,900 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 19,800 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 27,000 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Premium sedan (City, Verna) | Rs 48 | Rs 13,200 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 26,400 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 36,000 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Ertiga / Carens | Rs 42 | Rs 11,550 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 23,100 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 31,500 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Innova Crysta / Hycross | Rs 57.6 | Rs 15,670 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 31,350 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 42,750 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Tempo Traveller (12-16) | Rs 78 | Rs 21,450 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 42,900 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 58,500 Pay Now to Reserve |
NH65 has several toll plazas between the two cities, and a Telangana-registered commercial car entering Andhra Pradesh pays an inter-state permit or tax at the border; both are passed on at the exact receipted amount. Parking at Indrakeeladri, Prakasam Barrage or city malls is added as paid. Everything is quoted before 5% GST. Companies can add their GSTIN in the booker and receive a proper GST invoice for each trip, which makes this route easy to put on a corporate account. Our full rate table is on the fares page.

The route: NH65 from LB Nagar to Benz Circle
The drive is simple in outline: leave Hyderabad on the eastern side and stay on National Highway 65 almost all the way.
- Hyderabad to Choutuppal - from LB Nagar or the Outer Ring Road interchange near Pedda Amberpet, the highway runs east past Hayathnagar and Abdullapurmet. This is the slowest section on weekday mornings because of city traffic; a start before 7 am avoids most of it.
- Choutuppal to Suryapet - open four-lane highway through Chityal, Narketpally and Nakrekal, with the first toll plazas and a good choice of breakfast halts. Suryapet, roughly the midpoint, is where many drivers take a tea break.
- Suryapet to the state border - through Kodad to the Telangana-Andhra Pradesh boundary near Garikapadu, where the inter-state permit is handled.
- Jaggayyapet to Vijayawada - through Nandigama, Kanchikacherla and Ibrahimpatnam, with the Kondapalli hills on your left, before entering Vijayawada near Bhavanipuram or continuing to Benz Circle and Labbipet.
Typical driving time is about five hours, a little more with a meal stop. Evening returns to Hyderabad slow down near LB Nagar after 7 pm, so for same-day trips we suggest leaving Vijayawada by about 3 or 4 pm.
NH65 stage by stage
| Stage | About km | Usual time | Toll plazas |
|---|---|---|---|
| Central Hyderabad to LB Nagar | 15 | 40 min to 1 hr | city traffic, no plaza |
| LB Nagar to Choutuppal | 45 | about 45 min | Panthangi, near Choutuppal |
| Choutuppal to Suryapet via Narketpally | 80 | about 1 hr 15 min | Korlapahad, near Kethepally |
| Suryapet to the state border via Kodad | 50 | about 45 min | border permit check for Telangana taxis |
| Border to Vijayawada via Jaggayyapet and Nandigama | 85 | about 1 hr 15 min | Chillakallu, near Jaggayyapet |
| Door to door | about 275 | about 5 hrs | tolls and permit at actual |
The car pays by FASTag, so plazas cost little time outside festival peaks; every toll and the permit appear on your statement with receipts.
Festival traffic on NH65
This highway sees some of the heaviest seasonal traffic in South India. During Sankranti in January, huge numbers of families drive from Hyderabad to their home towns in coastal Andhra, and the toll plazas can back up for kilometres; returns a few days later are equally busy. Dasara, when Vijayawada's Kanaka Durga temple hosts its Navaratri celebrations, brings another surge, as do long weekends and the Diwali holidays. For these dates, book a week or two ahead and consider leaving before dawn.
Stops and sights along the way
- Choutuppal and Chityal - highway restaurants serving idli, dosa and Andhra-style meals.
- Suryapet - the natural halfway break, with fuel and food.
- Kodad - the last Telangana town of any size before the border.
- Kondapalli - a short detour to the hill fort and the village famous for its painted wooden toys, just before Vijayawada.

Vijayawada: temples, the Krishna and the capital region
With a return trip or a multi-day booking, the chauffeur can take you around the city and its surroundings.
- Kanaka Durga temple on Indrakeeladri hill - Vijayawada's best-known shrine, overlooking the Krishna. Cars drive up the ghat road to the hilltop parking at most times, though access is regulated during Dasara. The temple's official website lists darshan and seva timings.
- Prakasam Barrage - the long barrage across the Krishna, especially attractive at dusk.
- Bhavani Island - a river island park reached by boat.
- Undavalli caves - rock-cut cave temples across the river on the Guntur side.
- Mangalagiri - the Panakala Narasimha Swamy temple, a short drive towards Guntur.
- Amaravati - the new capital area and the historic Buddhist site at Amaravati town, further along the river.
The Andhra Pradesh government's tourism portal has current details on these and other attractions across the state, and the NTR district website posts local notices for Vijayawada.
Business travellers often use this route as a same-day shuttle: leave Hyderabad at 6 am, meetings in Vijayawada or at the secretariat side from 11 am to 3 pm, and home by about 9 pm. The car and chauffeur wait between meetings, and the fare stays at the 550 km same-day figure.
Taxi, train or flight: which suits you?
Hyderabad and Vijayawada are linked by frequent trains and by short flights into Gannavaram, so it is fair to ask why people choose a car. The answer is usually the door-to-door time and the flexibility. A flight is under an hour in the air, but once you add the drive to Shamshabad, security, boarding, the wait for bags and the 20 km run from Gannavaram into the city, the total often approaches the five-hour road journey. Trains are economical but tie you to fixed departures, and confirmed berths can be scarce around festivals.
A taxi works best when you are travelling as a family or a small team (the per-head cost falls quickly), when you are carrying heavy luggage, gifts or samples, when you need to make stops on the way, or when your destination is outside central Vijayawada, such as a Guntur factory, an Amaravati office or a village near Nandigama. It is also the natural choice for elderly parents who find station platforms and airport queues tiring.
The options side by side
| Mode | How it works | Suits | Things to weigh |
|---|---|---|---|
| Train | many daily trains between Secunderabad or Hyderabad and Vijayawada (see Indian Railways) | solo travellers, overnight journeys | confirmed berths are scarce at Sankranti and Dasara |
| State or private bus | frequent TGSRTC and APSRTC services, including night buses | budget travel | bus-stand pickup and drop, fixed timings |
| Flight to Gannavaram | short hop from Shamshabad, then about 20 km into the city | business travellers with airport access | airport time at both ends often matches the drive |
| Self-drive | your fuel, tolls, permit and five hours at the wheel | confident highway drivers | fatigue on the return leg of a same-day trip |
| Chauffeur taxi | door to door, the car waits between meetings | families, teams, same-day business | leave Hyderabad early to beat LB Nagar traffic |

Comfort and safety on a long highway day
NH65 is a fast road, and fast roads are where fatigue causes trouble. Our chauffeurs start the day rested, take a short break roughly every two hours, and keep to sensible highway speeds rather than racing the clock. Seat belts are fitted and working in every row, and we ask passengers to use them. Cars carry drinking water, and the chauffeur can stop at clean restrooms at the larger highway restaurants. If you are travelling at night, the driver avoids stopping at isolated spots and keeps you informed of progress.
Pickup in Hyderabad, drop in Vijayawada
We collect from anywhere in Hyderabad and Secunderabad: HITEC City, Madhapur, Gachibowli, Kondapur, the Financial District, Jubilee Hills, Banjara Hills, Begumpet, Ameerpet, Kukatpally, Dilsukhnagar, LB Nagar and Uppal. Pickups from Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Shamshabad include flight tracking and a name board, with 60 minutes of free waiting after international arrivals and 30 after domestic ones, then hourly billing; see our Hyderabad airport taxi page. From the airport, the chauffeur uses the Outer Ring Road to join NH65 without crossing the city.
In Vijayawada we drop at hotels around Benz Circle, MG Road and Governorpet, at Vijayawada railway station, at Gannavaram airport, at the Kanaka Durga temple, and onward to Guntur, Mangalagiri, Amaravati, Machilipatnam or Eluru on request, priced by the extra kilometres.
