Pilgrim families rarely travel light or alone, which is why a Tempo Traveller in Haridwar is the most requested vehicle in this town from April to November. RutzIndia.com places 12, 17, 20 and 26-seat Force Travellers in Haridwar with chauffeurs who drive the Uttarakhand hills for a living, for a single evening at Har Ki Pauri, a day across to Rishikesh and Neelkanth, or a ten-day Char Dham yatra with the whole joint family.
Tempo Traveller price in Haridwar, 2026
Hiring a Tempo Traveller in Haridwar costs Rs 19,500 Pay Now to Reserve for a full local day (8 hr, 80 km), Rs 11,700 Pay Now to Reserve for a half day (4 hr, 40 km) and Rs 10,740 Pay Now to Reserve for a single transfer up to 40 km, such as Jolly Grant airport. Char Dham and other hill trips run at Rs 78 a kilometre, 250 km a day minimum, all before 5% GST, with tolls, permits and parking extra.
Haridwar is priced on national base rates, with no city uplift. The table shows the four group vehicles most families compare, plus the Innova for smaller parties.
| Haridwar package | Traveller (12-26) | Innova (6) | Ertiga (6) | Urbania (10-17) | Mini bus (20-35) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hills and outstation, per km | Rs 78 | Rs 57.6 | Rs 42 | Rs 102 | Rs 130 |
| Full day, 8 hr and 80 km | Rs 19,500 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 12,600 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 9,000 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 27,000 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 42,000 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Station or airport drop, 40 km | Rs 10,740 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 6,930 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 4,950 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 14,850 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 23,100 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Half day, 4 hr and 40 km | Rs 11,700 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 7,560 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 5,400 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 16,200 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 25,200 Pay Now to Reserve |
GST at 5% is added to the vehicle fare. Tolls, the Uttarakhand and other state permits, and parking at ghats, ropeways and temples are charged at actual cost. Any trip with an overnight halt adds the chauffeur's night allowance, between Rs 900 and Rs 1,800 for each night away. For round trips we bill whichever is larger: the kilometres actually driven, or 250 km multiplied by the number of calendar days. You can read the reasoning behind each line on our fares explainer.

Seat size, per-km rate, daily minimum and bata
Most Haridwar enquiries are for the yatra, so the worked example in this table is the single most booked hill trip, Ek Dham Kedarnath over four days. Four days at the 250 km daily minimum bills 1,000 km, which is enough for the drive to Sonprayag or Guptkashi and back with the local shuttles in between.
| Van and seating | Per km | Least billed a day | Least day fare | Kedarnath, 4 days, 1,000 km billed | Bata for each night away |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Traveller, 9 wide recliners | Rs 78 | 250 km | Rs 19,500 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 78,000 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 1,500 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Urbania, 10 or 13 seats | Rs 102 | 250 km | Rs 25,500 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 1,02,000 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 1,500 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Traveller, 12 seats | Rs 78 | 250 km | Rs 19,500 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 78,000 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 1,500 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Traveller, 17 seats | Rs 78 | 250 km | Rs 19,500 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 78,000 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 1,500 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Traveller, 20 seats | Rs 78 | 250 km | Rs 19,500 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 78,000 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 1,500 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Traveller, 26 seats | Rs 78 | 250 km | Rs 19,500 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 78,000 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 1,500 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Mini bus, 27 to 35 seats | Rs 130 | 250 km | Rs 33,750 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 1,35,000 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 1,500 Pay Now to Reserve |
For Kedarnath the three nights add Rs 4,500 Pay Now to Reserve of bata, and GST at 5% applies to the vehicle fare. Tolls, the vehicle's hill permits and parking at Sonprayag, Guptkashi or Phata are charged at actual cost. The trek, pony, palki or helicopter to the shrine is always separate.
Local days in Haridwar sometimes stretch from a dawn snan to the evening aarti at Har Ki Pauri and a late dinner. For those, the 12-hour, 120 km option is priced at one and a half times the 8-hour fare plus 40 km at the per-km rate: about Rs 32,370 Pay Now to Reserve for a Traveller (Rs 19,500 Pay Now to Reserve x 1.5 + 40 x Rs 78), Rs 44,580 Pay Now to Reserve for an Urbania and Rs 68,400 Pay Now to Reserve for a mini bus, before GST.
The seat sizes and how they handle Uttarakhand roads
All our Haridwar Travellers are high-roof Force vans with roof-duct AC, push-back seats, a music system and a luggage carrier. On the plains they all behave the same. In the hills, length matters, and our dispatcher will tell you honestly if a long body is the wrong choice for your route.
9 seats: the yatri's comfort choice
Pilgrims in their sixties and seventies on a ten-day Char Dham circuit spend long hours seated, and a 9-seat 2x1 recliner layout makes a real difference to backs and knees. It is the same Traveller rate as any other seat count. For those who struggle with the high step, the 10-seat Force Urbania has a lower floor and a smoother ride on broken hill roads.
12 seats: the best all-round hill van
On the Gangotri and Yamunotri spurs, and on the climb from Rudraprayag to Guptkashi, the shorter 12-seat body takes hairpins more easily and finds parking where a long one cannot. With ten passengers there is room for the woollens, medicines and puja kit a yatra needs. See the national 12-seater Tempo Traveller page for layouts.
17 seats: sangats and satsang groups
Seventeen seats suit a satsang group from one mohalla heading to Rishikesh ashrams, Neelkanth or a Do Dham trip to Kedarnath and Badrinath. On the Badrinath highway the 17-seater is comfortable; on the smaller roads it is slower but manageable. Keep bags soft and light; the roof carrier is used for everything bulky.
20 seats: local darshan and Kumbh-year groups
Twenty seats are best used on the plains: Haridwar temples, Rishikesh, the Shantikunj and Patanjali campuses, or a Delhi transfer. On snan days, when police push parking far from the ghats, one 20-seater keeps a large family together on the walk-in and the ride back.
26 seats: schools, trusts and large ashrams
The 26-seater suits school trips to Rishikesh and Haridwar, trust groups staying at ashrams in Bhupatwala, and conference groups at the yoga centres. We do not recommend it for the upper Char Dham roads; above about 26 people, two 12 or 17-seaters or a mini bus on rent handle the hills better than one long van.

Standard Traveller, maharaja fit-out or Urbania
- Standard Traveller: push-back fabric seats, AC ducts over each row and a roof carrier; the right choice for most pilgrim groups.
- Maharaja or deluxe interior: fewer, wider seats with better upholstery, at the same per-km rate when one is available on your dates.
- Force Urbania: a modern van with independent suspension, lower step and quieter cabin; Rs 102 per km and Rs 27,000 for a Haridwar local day.
- Innova Crysta for small families: six seats at Rs 57.6 per km, often paired with a Traveller so elders can travel separately.
Eight trips from Haridwar with estimated totals
The totals below add 5% GST and the chauffeur's bata for each night, which is what a group treasurer needs to collect. Tolls, parking, permits, hotels and the treks or ropeways at the far end are extra.
| From Haridwar | Days | Km billed | Traveller fare | Estimated total with GST and bata |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rishikesh and Neelkanth loop | 1 | 80 + 35 extra | Rs 22,230 | about Rs 23,340 |
| One-way drop to Delhi | 1 | 220 | Rs 17,160 Pay Now to Reserve | about Rs 18,030 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Mussoorie and Kempty Falls | 2 | 500 | Rs 39,000 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 35,625 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Chopta and Tungnath | 3 | 750 | Rs 58,500 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 54,200 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Ek Dham Kedarnath | 4 | 1,000 | Rs 78,000 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 72,750 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Auli via Joshimath | 4 | 1,000 | Rs 78,000 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 72,750 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Do Dham Yamunotri and Gangotri | 6 | 1,500 | Rs 1,17,000 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 1,09,875 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Char Dham, all four shrines | 10 | 2,500 | Rs 1,95,000 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 1,84,125 Pay Now to Reserve |
The Rishikesh line uses the local 8-hour package plus 35 km at Rs 78 each, because the loop stays close to Haridwar. Smaller families can price the Delhi leg by car on the Delhi to Rishikesh taxi and Delhi to Mussoorie taxi pages.

Hill permits, green cards and state entry
Commercial passenger vehicles on the Char Dham routes carry trip documents checked by the Uttarakhand authorities at barriers along the way, and our vans are prepared with these before departure. Every pilgrim also registers individually; the Shri Badarinath-Shri Kedarnath Temple Committee's official site carries darshan and opening-date information, and registration is on the state portal linked earlier. Groups joining from Delhi or Uttar Pradesh in a van registered outside Uttarakhand pay a state entry tax at the border; with our Haridwar-based vans that cost does not arise for trips inside the state. Anything paid at a barrier appears on your bill at actual cost with the receipt.
Where we pick up in and around Haridwar
Chauffeurs collect from stations, hotels, dharamshalas, ashrams and homes across the Haridwar and Rishikesh belt:
- Around the ghats: Har Ki Pauri, Upper Road, Moti Bazaar, Mayapur, Bhimgoda, Kharkhari
- Ashram and hotel belts: Bhupatwala, Sapt Sarovar, Shantikunj, Haridwar-Rishikesh road, Raiwala
- City and industrial areas: Kankhal, Jwalapur, Shivalik Nagar, Ranipur and BHEL township, SIDCUL, Jagjeetpur, Bahadrabad, the Patanjali Yogpeeth campus
- Nearby towns: Rishikesh, Roorkee, Dehradun and Jolly Grant airport
Many dharamshalas stand on lanes no van can enter; the chauffeur will agree a pickup point on the nearest road the evening before.
On board the yatra van
Yatra vans carry a first-aid kit, a fire extinguisher and seat belts on every seat; we advise families to add their own medicines for altitude and motion sickness. The chauffeur keeps a torch, a tow rope and snow chains in the winter months. Vans are cleaned before each duty and, on multi-day trips, every morning before departure. There is no smoking or alcohol on board, and many pilgrim groups also ask for no non-vegetarian food inside the van, which the chauffeur respects. Drinking water for passengers can be added through the travel desk.
Day-by-day: a six-day Kedarnath and Badrinath plan
Do Dham is the most booked multi-day trip from Haridwar after Char Dham itself. This plan suits most groups, weather permitting.
| Day | Route | Approximate road km | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Haridwar to Guptkashi or Sitapur via Devprayag and Rudraprayag | 210 | Early start; Devprayag confluence stop |
| 2 | To Sonprayag, shuttle to Gaurikund, trek or helicopter to Kedarnath | 30 | Van waits at Sonprayag parking |
| 3 | Return from Kedarnath to the van, drive towards Chamoli | 160 | Long day; elders may prefer a night at Kedarnath |
| 4 | To Badrinath, darshan, Mana village | 110 | Evening aarti at Badrinath |
| 5 | Badrinath to Rudraprayag or Srinagar (Garhwal) | 160 | Descend in daylight |
| 6 | Back to Haridwar | 150 | Arrive by evening |
Actual road distance is typically 800 to 900 km, but six days at the daily minimum bills 1,500 km, Rs 1,17,000 Pay Now to Reserve in a Traveller before GST, plus five nights of bata. If landslides close a stretch, the extra day is billed at the same daily minimum.
Local darshan in Haridwar and the Rishikesh loop
Haridwar's own sights sit close together but the traffic around them does not move quickly, especially on bathing days. A 12-seat Traveller on the 8 hr / 80 km package covers a comfortable local day.
- Har Ki Pauri and the evening Ganga aarti: vehicles cannot reach the ghat itself. The chauffeur drops the group at the nearest permitted point, often near the Lalita Rao bridge or the parking lots along the Upper Road, and the group walks the last stretch. Arrive at least an hour before sunset to find a place on the steps.
- Mansa Devi and Chandi Devi: both hilltop temples have ropeways; the van waits at the base stations.
- Bharat Mata Mandir, Pawan Dham and the Sapt Rishi ashrams: on the Rishikesh side of town, easy with a van.
- Rishikesh, about 25 km: Triveni Ghat, the Ram Jhula and Laxman Jhula areas, and the evening aarti at Parmarth Niketan. For car-sized groups the Rishikesh taxi service is cheaper.
- Neelkanth Mahadev: about 30 km beyond Rishikesh on a narrow ghat road. A Haridwar-Rishikesh-Neelkanth-Haridwar loop is typically 110 to 120 km, so the local package plus about 35 extra km at Rs 78 each, around Rs 22,230 before GST.
Families who want a slower pace often split the plan over two half days at Rs 11,700 each instead of one crammed day.
Char Dham yatra by Tempo Traveller from Haridwar
Haridwar is the traditional starting point of the Char Dham circuit: Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath. The shrines open around Akshaya Tritiya in late April or May and close around Diwali and Bhai Dooj in October or November, with the monsoon months of July and August bringing landslide risk. Our detailed Char Dham yatra by car page has day-by-day plans; this section covers the group van side.
Typical plans and fares
- Char Dham, 10 days: about 1,400 to 1,600 km of actual driving, but the minimum rule of 250 km per day sets the billable distance at 2,500 km, so the Traveller fare is 2,500 x Rs 78 = Rs 1,95,000 Pay Now to Reserve before GST, plus nine driver night allowances, tolls and permits.
- Do Dham, Kedarnath and Badrinath, 6 days: billed at the 1,500 km minimum, Rs 1,17,000 Pay Now to Reserve, plus five night allowances.
- Ek Dham, Kedarnath, 4 days: billed at 1,000 km, Rs 78,000 Pay Now to Reserve, plus three night allowances.
Two cost points surprise first-time yatris. First, the Kedarnath trek from Gaurikund, the helicopter from Phata or Guptkashi, the ponies and palkis are all separate from the vehicle. Second, road closures for landslides can add a day; extra days are billed at the same daily minimum.
Registration, permits and hill rules
Every yatri must register with the Uttarakhand tourism department before travelling; registration is free on the state's yatra registration portal. The vehicle's own yatra paperwork, including the Char Dham permit and fitness documents required for commercial vehicles, is handled by us. Several yatra roads are closed to traffic after dark, and our chauffeurs do not drive the hill stretches at night in any case; the day plans are built around that. Hill-driving etiquette applies throughout: uphill traffic has right of way on narrow stretches, and horns are used before blind bends.
A Traveller is the right vehicle for the Char Dham roads for most groups, but on the Gangotri and Yamunotri spurs the narrow sections favour smaller vans. For a group of 10 or fewer, a 12-seater or two Innova Crysta cars are easier than a 26-seat body.
Pickup points: station, bus stand and Jolly Grant
- Haridwar Junction railway station: trains from Delhi, Mumbai, Howrah and Ahmedabad arrive here. Vans wait in the station parking and the chauffeur meets the group at the main exit.
- Jolly Grant Airport, Dehradun (DED): typically about 35 km and an hour away via the Rishikesh bypass, which fits the Rs 10,740 Pay Now to Reserve transfer. Flights are tracked, with 30 minutes' free waiting after domestic arrivals, after which the hourly rate applies.
- Hotels and dharamshalas: most are around Har Ki Pauri, the Upper Road, Bhupatwala and the Haridwar-Rishikesh road. Many sit on lanes a 26-seater cannot enter, so we agree a pickup point on the main road.
- Delhi pickups: many families start in Delhi. A one-way Traveller from Delhi to Haridwar, about 220 km, costs 220 x Rs 78 = Rs 17,160 Pay Now to Reserve; see the Delhi to Haridwar taxi page for car fares, and Tempo Traveller in Delhi for van pickups there.
One-way transfers from Haridwar station
Trains arriving at Haridwar Junction deliver most of our pilgrim groups, and many go straight on to an ashram, a rafting camp or the airport. A transfer covers up to 40 km for Rs 10,740 Pay Now to Reserve in a Traveller; beyond that each kilometre is Rs 78.
| Haridwar Junction to | Typical distance | Traveller fare before GST |
|---|---|---|
| Har Ki Pauri and Upper Road hotels | about 3 km | Rs 10,740 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Roorkee | about 30 km | Rs 10,740 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Rishikesh, Tapovan and Laxman Jhula area | about 30 km | Rs 10,740 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Jolly Grant airport | about 35 km | Rs 10,740 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Shivpuri rafting camps | about 45 km | about Rs 11,130 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Dehradun city centre | about 55 km | about Rs 11,910 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Mussoorie | about 90 km | about Rs 14,640 Pay Now to Reserve |
For a short hop from the station to a ghat-side hotel, a smaller car is cheaper; our Rishikesh taxi service and Dehradun taxi service cover sedans and Innovas on the same roads. For one-way drops further afield, the national one-way taxi page lists car fares.
Rishikesh rafting, camps and yoga groups
A growing share of Haridwar van work is not pilgrimage at all but adventure and wellness. College groups and corporate teams arrive by the Shatabdi or Jan Shatabdi, and the van takes them to riverside camps at Shivpuri or Byasi for rafting on the Ganga, usually from September to June; rafting pauses in the monsoon when the river runs high. Yoga-retreat groups staying in Tapovan and Swarg Ashram book a van for arrival, a Neelkanth or Kunjapuri sunrise outing, and departure. The chauffeur knows where camp jeeps take over on the steep tracks down to the river beaches, and the van waits at the road head. A weekend of arrival transfer, one local day and a departure transfer costs about Rs 10,740 Pay Now to Reserve + Rs 19,500 Pay Now to Reserve + Rs 10,740 Pay Now to Reserve, Rs 40,980 Pay Now to Reserve before GST, for up to 26 people.
Travelling with elders on the yatra: a checklist
Char Dham and Do Dham trips are harder on elders than most families expect, and a few precautions make a real difference.
- See a doctor first. Kedarnath and Yamunotri involve altitude and exertion; people with heart or lung conditions should get medical advice before registering.
- Seat by need. Front rows ride smoothest; keep them for anyone prone to motion sickness.
- Layer up. Even in May and June, Badrinath and Kedarnath mornings are cold; keep woollens in the cabin, not on the roof.
- Keep medicines and ID in a small bag that stays with each person on treks and ropeways.
- Plan rest days. Adding a night at Guptkashi or Joshimath costs one more day at the daily minimum but spares everyone a punishing return.
- Book ponies and helicopters early. They sell out in the opening weeks; the van fare does not include them.
Monthly and ashram group hire
Ashrams, yoga schools and trusts in Haridwar and Rishikesh that receive visiting groups every week sometimes prefer a van on a monthly arrangement, with the same chauffeur and a fixed kilometre allowance. The monthly car rental with driver plan explains how it works and how the GST invoice is raised to the trust or company.
Kanwar, Kumbh and the bathing-day calendar
Haridwar's calendar shapes everything about road travel here. During the Kanwar Yatra in the month of Sawan, usually July into August, lakhs of kanwariyas walk the Delhi-Haridwar highway, and the police divert or close vehicle lanes for days. Book Travellers well ahead and expect routes via Roorkee and the canal roads to change daily. Kumbh and Ardh Kumbh years bring even stricter controls, with vehicles parked far outside the mela zone and shuttle buses taking pilgrims in.
Other peak days include Ganga Dussehra in May or June, Somvati Amavasya, Kartik Purnima and the Char Dham opening weeks. On these dates the local package is often better value than a transfer, because the van may spend hours waiting in controlled traffic. The Haridwar district administration publishes traffic plans ahead of major snan days.
Mussoorie, Dehradun and Chakrata by van
Many pilgrim groups add two cool days in the hills. Mussoorie is about 90 km from Haridwar through Dehradun, and a two-day Mussoorie trip is billed at the 500 km minimum, Rs 39,000 Pay Now to Reserve, plus one night allowance. Our Tempo Traveller in Dehradun team covers Mussoorie, Dhanaulti and Chakrata departures from the capital if your group is based there. Winter visitors should know that Dhanaulti and the upper Mussoorie roads can see snow between late December and February, when vans may stop short of the highest points.
Winter in the Garhwal hills: Auli, Chopta and snow days
When the shrines close after Diwali, Haridwar's vans turn to winter trips. Auli's ski slopes above Joshimath usually get their best snow from late December to February, and Chopta, the base for the Tungnath temple and Chandrashila summit trek, turns into a snowy meadow in the same months. Both roads can close for a day after heavy snowfall. Our chauffeurs carry snow chains in winter, follow police advisories at Joshimath and Ukhimath, and never drive iced stretches after dark. Plan a buffer day for every winter hill trip; if it is not needed, the group simply gets an extra morning in the snow. Pack proper snow boots and gloves; the ropeway from Joshimath to Auli and the ski slopes have their own schedules and tickets, and they sometimes pause in high winds. Hotels in Auli and Joshimath fill fast over Christmas and New Year, so book rooms before the van.
Weddings and family functions in Haridwar and Rishikesh
Riverside resorts between Haridwar and Rishikesh, and the heritage properties near Narendra Nagar, host a growing number of destination weddings, alongside the many family ceremonies held at the Haridwar ghats: mundan, asthi visarjan and anniversaries of elders. For weddings, vans shuttle guests from Haridwar Junction, Dehradun airport and hotels to the venue; for ghat ceremonies a single Traveller on the 4-hour package usually suffices. For the couple's own car, see our national wedding car rental page.
What to pack and how to plan the van day
Pilgrim groups with elders do best with a little structure. Keep one small bag per person inside the cabin, with medicines, warm layers and a water bottle, and let the rest ride in the boot or on the roof carrier under a tarpaulin. Seat grandparents in the front two rows, where the ride is smoothest and the step is closest. On Char Dham days start by 6 am so that the longest climbs are done before the afternoon traffic and the occasional rain, and plan lunch at a known dhaba rather than wherever the group feels hungry. Carry cash for tolls on smaller state roads and for temple offerings; the chauffeur keeps FASTag receipts and hands the toll list over with the final bill.
Our Haridwar chauffeurs
The chauffeurs who drive our Haridwar vans hold commercial passenger licences, are police-verified, and most have driven the Char Dham circuit through many seasons. They know which dhabas near Devprayag and Rudraprayag serve clean vegetarian food, where the landslide-prone stretches sit, and how early the Sonprayag parking fills in May. They do not drink on duty, do not drive the hills after dark and will stop whenever a passenger feels unwell. On multi-day yatras the same chauffeur stays with the group from Haridwar back to Haridwar, which gives the group one familiar face for every early start and long mountain day. If you have a preference for a chauffeur who speaks Gujarati, Marathi or Bengali, mention it at booking and the desk will try to match it.
Booking your Haridwar Traveller
- Pick the date, package and seat count on the RutzIndia.com booker, or send a full yatra plan to the travel desk.
- Pay the fixed fare by card or UPI; a GST invoice is available for trusts, companies and ashram groups.
- We confirm the chauffeur and vehicle number the evening before. Call us or WhatsApp the desk if a train is late or plans change.
Every vehicle is within four model years, fully air-conditioned and cleaned before each trip. If plans change, cancelling earlier than 72 hours before the pickup time costs nothing; after that we retain a tenth of the fare, rising to half once you are inside 48 hours and the whole amount inside the final 24 hours or if the group does not show. Weather closures on the yatra route are handled case by case; read the cancellation policy before you book, and see the wider pilgrimage taxi page for car options to Vrindavan, Varanasi and Vaishno Devi.
