RutzIndia.com runs three Goa circuits of 3, 4 and 5 days that begin at Dabolim or Mopa airport, plus two onward trips, Karnataka and Ajanta-Ellora, for people living or wintering in Goa. You keep one car and one chauffeur for the whole holiday; the fare counts kilometres, with a floor of 250 per day.
Two airports, one chauffeur
Goa is small, but it has two airports at opposite ends and the choice changes your first day. Dabolim, near Vasco in the middle of the state, is about 40 km from the northern beaches and handy for the south. Mopa, the newer Manohar International airport in Pernem, sits in the far north, around 35 km and 45 minutes from Calangute, but a long way from Palolem. Tell the desk which airport your airline uses; the chauffeur tracks the flight, waits with a name board, and allows 30 minutes free after a domestic landing and 60 after an international one.
For single rides, the Goa airport taxi page gives the fixed fares, and for a day of errands or dinners the Goa taxi service and car rental with driver in Goa by the 8-hour block cover it. The packages below are for people who want the same car and driver from arrival to departure.

Three lengths of Goa
Three days is the long weekend. The 3-day Goa package gives you an afternoon on Candolim or Baga after landing, dinner in the villages of Assagao or Siolim with the car waiting, and a full second day for Old Goa's churches and the painted lanes of Fontainhas in Panaji. The last morning goes to Anjuna, Vagator and the headland at Chapora fort before the airport.
Four days adds the south, which many first-time visitors never see. The 4-day package crosses the Zuari bridge for Colva and Benaulim, turns inland to Chandor for the grand old Braganza House, and ends the afternoon at Palolem's crescent bay. That day is about 140 km of driving, and it is the reason a chauffeur is worth having: the southern roads are narrow and there is nowhere easy to park near the beaches in season.
Five days is the full picture. The 5-day package adds a ferry to Divar island for its hilltop church and village houses, and a day inland to the Mollem gate of the Bhagwan Mahavir sanctuary. From there the forest jeep takes you to Dudhsagar falls, and the afternoon goes to the spice farms and temples around Ponda. The jeeps usually stop for the monsoon, roughly June to early October, so plan this version for the dry months.
If you are choosing between them, the four-day trip is the best balance. It shows you both halves of Goa without a single rushed day. Our North Goa, South Goa and Old Goa road guides help you decide where to stay.
Old Goa and the Portuguese inheritance
Old Goa is the heart of every circuit here. The Basilica of Bom Jesus, which holds the relics of St Francis Xavier, and the Se Cathedral across the lawn are part of the UNESCO-listed churches and convents of Goa. Go early, because the sun is hard on the open squares by late morning, and dress modestly, with shoulders and knees covered. Fontainhas in Panaji, with its ochre and blue houses, is best in the late afternoon, and Chandor's family mansions, some of which open to visitors, show the other side of Portuguese Goa. The Goa Tourism site lists opening times and events.

Onward trips for Goa-based travellers
Some people live in Goa, or spend winters there, and want to see more of the region. Two circuits suit them.
The 5-day Karnataka package starts in Bengaluru. From Goa, the quickest approach is a flight of about an hour, after which the chauffeur takes you down the expressway to Mysore, west into the Coorg coffee estates and north to the Hoysala temples at Belur and Halebidu, before returning to Bengaluru. Driving from Goa to Bengaluru is possible but it is a very long day.
The 5-day Maharashtra package begins in Mumbai for the drive to Aurangabad, the Ellora and Ajanta caves and Pune. From Goa you can fly to Mumbai, take the train up the Konkan coast, or ask the desk to start the circuit closer to the caves to save the long first day. Remember that Ajanta shuts on Mondays and Ellora on Tuesdays. The Mumbai to Goa taxi page shows the one-way fare if you prefer to be driven the 590 km coast road.
Closer to home, shorter drives sit happily alongside any package. Gokarna and its beaches are about 145 km south, Dandeli's forests and river are about 120 km inland, and Tarkarli's clear water lies about 120 km north on the Maharashtra coast. See our Gokarna, Dandeli and Tarkarli guides.
Goa through the year
November to February is the high season: dry, sunny and busy, with Christmas and New Year the most crowded weeks of the year and prices for rooms at their highest. Carnival brings floats and music to Panaji and the larger towns before Lent, usually in February or early March, and Shigmo follows in spring. From March to May the heat and humidity build, and the beaches are quieter.
The monsoon, June to September, changes Goa completely. The sea is rough and swimming is unsafe; most beach shacks are taken down; but the paddy fields and hills are brilliantly green and hotels are far cheaper. Sao Joao in late June, when young men leap into village wells and streams, and Ganesh Chaturthi, which Goans celebrate at home with great care, are the monsoon festivals worth planning around.

Which car for Goa's roads
- A Dzire-class sedan (Rs 72 per km) is plenty for a couple doing the beaches, Panaji and Old Goa.
- The seven-seat Ertiga (Rs 84 per km) or the Innova Crysta (Rs 114 per km) for families; the Innova copes best with the Mollem forest road and a boot full of beach gear. Details are on the Innova Crysta on rent page.
- A Fortuner (Rs 168 per km) if you want height and space on the long southern day or on the onward Karnataka trip.
- The Tempo Traveller (Rs 156 per km) for wedding parties, office retreats and gangs of friends; see tempo traveller in Goa.
- Luxury cars for honeymoons and anniversaries are listed on our luxury car rental in Goa page.
Because Goa's distances are short, the arithmetic usually lands on the daily floor. A four-day holiday is counted as 1,000 billable kilometres even if the odometer shows less, and that figure is multiplied by the rate of the car you choose. What sits outside it: a nightly allowance for the driver, somewhere between Rs 1,800 Pay Now to Reserve and 600; ferry, toll and parking charges exactly as paid; a border entry tax only if you leave the state; and GST at 5%. No car in the fleet is older than four model years, and each class is photographed on the fleet page.
Where to base yourself
The choice of hotel area decides how much of the holiday is spent in the car. Candolim, Calangute and Baga are lively, close to the restaurants and busiest in December. Assagao, Siolim and Morjim are quieter and greener, with villas and boutique guesthouses a short drive from the northern beaches. Panaji makes a good town base for Old Goa, Divar and the Mandovi riverfront, and is central enough for day trips both ways. In the south, the resorts around Benaulim, Varca and Cavelossim face long sandy beaches, while Palolem and Agonda offer smaller cottages by quieter bays. Heritage homes in the villages inland from Margao suit people who want the Portuguese houses rather than the sea. The travel desk can hold rooms in any of these areas and put them into a single written quote.
What the chauffeur plans around
Goa's roads are narrow once you leave the highway, and the chauffeur's job is mostly timing. The bridges over the Mandovi at Panaji and the Zuari towards the south are the pinch points, slow at office hours and on weekend evenings in season. Beach parking near Baga and Calangute fills by late morning in December, so the car drops you at the lane end and waits away from the crush. Markets change the plan too: the Anjuna flea market runs on Wednesdays in season and Mapusa's market is busiest on Fridays. Night drives on the unlit village roads are slower than the map suggests, and the driver will tell you so honestly when you are choosing a dinner spot far from your hotel.
Booking, payment and cancellation
Type your flight number and airport into the online booker, select a car class, and settle the transport fare by card or UPI in the same visit. If you would like villas, resorts or heritage homes bundled with entries and a guide, write to the travel desk for an itemised all-inclusive offer. GST invoices are issued for company bookings. Nothing is charged if you cancel with more than three days to go; once the pickup is under 72 hours away the charge is 10%, rising to half the fare under 48 hours and the entire fare under 24 hours or if nobody turns up. The cancellation policy page has the wording.
