Picture a Tuesday in Mumbai: a 9.30 am meeting at Bandra Kurla Complex, lunch with a supplier in Lower Parel, a site visit in Thane, and a client dinner at Colaba. By app cab that is four separate bookings, four waits at the kerb and four chances of a cancellation during a downpour. With car rental with driver in Mumbai you book the whole day once. The same car and chauffeur collect you at home, wait outside each building and carry your bags and papers until you release them at night. RutzIndia.com sells that time in clear blocks of 4 hours / 40 km, 8 hours / 80 km and 12 hours, and moves you to per-km billing the moment the trip heads out to Lonavala, Nashik or Goa.
Car rental with driver in Mumbai: day rates at a glance
In Mumbai a chauffeur-driven Dzire costs Rs 7,920 Pay Now to Reserve for 8 hours / 80 km and Rs 4,740 Pay Now to Reserve for 4 hours / 40 km. An Innova Crysta is Rs 13,860 Pay Now to Reserve for the full day, a Honda City class sedan Rs 11,880 Pay Now to Reserve and a Mercedes E-Class Rs 41,250 Pay Now to Reserve. All fares are before 5% GST, with tolls and parking at actual cost.
Mumbai rates carry a small city factor over the national base because parking, fuel and the distances between suburbs make a working day here more expensive to run. The full table:

Why Mumbai suits hiring by the hour, not by the ride
Mumbai is long and thin, and the distance between two addresses matters less than the time it takes to cross the choke points in between: the Western Express Highway around Andheri, the Sion junction, the Kurla approaches, Peddar Road at school time. You cannot control that, but you can control how much of your day is lost to it. When a car is already waiting outside, the only delay is the road itself, not the extra ten or fifteen minutes of finding, calling and waiting for a fresh cab after every stop.
Self-drive is rarely practical here. Visitors are unfamiliar with the one-ways around Fort and Kala Ghoda, building parking in South Mumbai is scarce, and a car left on the kerb is quickly towed. A chauffeur solves all three: he drops you at the lobby, finds a legal spot or keeps circling, and comes back on a message. App cabs, meanwhile, are fine for a single hop but struggle in heavy rain, and surge pricing peaks exactly when you most need a car. A booked 8-hour package does not surge.
When does hiring by the ride make more sense? If your day is one airport run and one dinner, use our Mumbai airport taxi for the flight and the Mumbai taxi service for the dinner. Time-based hire wins once you have three or more stops or a long wait in between.
| Question | Self-drive car | Kaali-peeli or app cab | Car with chauffeur on a package |
|---|---|---|---|
| Who finds parking in Fort, Kala Ghoda or Bandra | You, with towing risk | Nobody; you are dropped and the car leaves | The chauffeur, who returns on your message |
| Cost on a red-alert monsoon day | Same rent, but you drive through waterlogging | Cars scarce, fares can surge | Same package fare you booked |
| Five stops from Powai to Colaba and back | One car, but every stop is a parking hunt | Five bookings and five waits | One car waiting at each stop |
| Sea Link, Atal Setu and expressway tolls | Paid by you at the plaza | Added to each trip | Passed on at cost with receipts |
| Deposit or account | Security deposit and licence checks | App account and card | Booking and payment only |
| Laptop, samples or shopping between meetings | Stay in your car | Travel with you | Stay locked in the boot |
| Works best for | Residents on a weekend drive | One quick hop across town | Visitors, executives, families and shoot crews |
The table is the practical summary of the section above. The deciding factor in Mumbai is rarely the rupee difference; it is whether you can afford to lose twenty minutes at every kerb.
Reading the meters: packages, extra hours and extra km
Each package gives you a fixed number of hours and kilometres, counted from the reporting time at your pickup point until the car is released at your drop point. Cross either limit and the extra is billed at the class rate: per kilometre at the outstation rate of that car, and per hour at roughly one-eighth of the 8-hour price.
Here is how a real Mumbai day adds up. A Dzire picks you up in Powai at 8.30 am for a 9-hour day that touches BKC, Nariman Point and Worli and returns to Powai, a total of about 74 km. You pay Rs 7,920 Pay Now to Reserve for the package plus one extra hour at about Rs 990, so about Rs 8,910 plus the Sea Link toll, parking and GST. The kilometres stayed inside the limit, which is typical: in Mumbai, the clock almost always runs out before the odometer.
For long days we offer a 12-hour option, which is simply the 8-hour package plus four extra hours and 40 extra km. That comes to Rs 13,320 Pay Now to Reserve for a Dzire and Rs 23,070 Pay Now to Reserve for an Innova Crysta for 12 hours / 120 km. Wedding families, film and ad shoots, and roadshows often need it.

Five real Mumbai days, priced
Every figure below uses the rates in the table above and assumes a pickup and drop at the same address. Tolls, parking and 5% GST are extra.
| The day | Car | Time and distance | Package plus overage | Fare before GST |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Colaba heritage loop, Elephanta ferry wait, Marine Drive at dusk | Dzire | 8 hr, about 35 km | 8 hr package, no overage | Rs 7,920 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Powai home to BKC, Nariman Point and Worli meetings | Dzire | 9 hr, about 74 km | 8 hr plus 1 hour | about Rs 8,910 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Andheri hotel to Navi Mumbai plant via Atal Setu and back | Innova Crysta | 9 hr, about 95 km | 8 hr plus 1 hour and 15 km | about Rs 16,450 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Wedding shopping: Dadar, Zaveri Bazaar, Crawford Market, Bandra | Innova Crysta | 12 hr, about 60 km | 12 hr package | Rs 23,070 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Goregaon shoot, 6 am call to 8 pm pack-up | Tempo Traveller | 14 hr, about 90 km | 12 hr package plus 2 hours | about Rs 40,650 Pay Now to Reserve |
Two patterns stand out. First, Mumbai days almost never exhaust the kilometres; it is the clock that decides the bill, so choose the package by the hours you expect. Second, when a day is likely to run past ten hours, booking the 12-hour package from the start costs the same as letting overage run, but it guarantees the car and chauffeur are rostered for the full day.
Workdays across BKC, Lower Parel, Andheri and Thane
Most corporate bookings in Mumbai follow a pattern. Airport pickups from CSMIA land in Santacruz or Sahar, or increasingly at the new Navi Mumbai International Airport across the harbour. The chauffeur tracks the flight, holds a name board, and waits free for 60 minutes after an international arrival and 30 minutes after a domestic one; after that, waiting counts toward your hours. From there the day moves between the financial district of BKC, the mill-land offices of Lower Parel and Worli, the media and tech campuses of Andheri East and Goregaon, and the industrial belt beyond Thane and Airoli.
The Coastal Road and the Sea Link have cut the drive from South Mumbai to Bandra, and the Atal Setu makes a same-day Navi Mumbai or Panvel meeting realistic. A single car with driver makes it easy to stack those without worrying about the next booking. Companies can put regular users on a monthly account with one GST invoice; our corporate car rental page explains billing, and teams that need the same chauffeur every day for weeks should look at monthly car rental with driver.
Client-facing days call for a premium sedan or a Mercedes car on rent, and the full luxury range, from BMW 7 Series to Rolls-Royce, is on the luxury car rental in Mumbai page. For crews and delegations, a Tempo Traveller in Mumbai moves twelve to twenty-six people as one unit, and weddings are covered on wedding car rental in Mumbai.

Stations, the cruise terminal and hotel pickups
Long-distance trains arrive at four big Mumbai terminals, and each needs a slightly different plan. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus in the Fort area is right beside South Mumbai's offices and hotels; Mumbai Central serves many western-line Rajdhani and Shatabdi services; Bandra Terminus sits on the edge of the western suburbs; and Lokmanya Tilak Terminus at Kurla handles many long-distance departures to the south and east. Give the desk your train and coach and the chauffeur waits at the right exit, because at CSMT or LTT the difference between two gates can be a ten-minute walk with luggage.
Cruise passengers disembarking at the international cruise terminal on the Ballard Estate waterfront often want a half-day city tour before an evening flight. A 4 hr / 40 km package, Rs 4,740 Pay Now to Reserve in a Dzire or Rs 8,310 Pay Now to Reserve in an Innova Crysta, covers the Gateway of India, Marine Drive and a drive past the Bandra-Worli Sea Link with luggage safely in the boot. Hotel districts matter too: Colaba and Nariman Point for heritage hotels, Juhu and the Sahar airport belt for transit stays, BKC and Powai for business hotels. Each has its own pickup quirks, and the chauffeur plans around them.
Areas we cover across Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai
Packages start and end at any address in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. Frequent pickup points include:
- South Mumbai: Colaba, Cuffe Parade, Nariman Point, Fort, Churchgate, Marine Lines, Malabar Hill, Breach Candy, Tardeo
- Central Mumbai: Worli, Lower Parel, Prabhadevi, Dadar, Matunga, Sion, Wadala
- Western suburbs: Bandra, Khar, Santacruz, Juhu, Vile Parle, Andheri, Jogeshwari, Goregaon, Malad, Kandivali, Borivali
- Eastern suburbs: Kurla, Chembur, Ghatkopar, Vikhroli, Powai, Mulund, BKC
- Thane: Ghodbunder Road, Majiwada, Thane West
- Navi Mumbai: Vashi, Nerul, Belapur, Kharghar, Airoli, Panvel
If you need a six-seater for several days, the Innova Crysta on rent in Mumbai page covers longer bookings; for a single ride inside these areas, cab booking is quicker.
Monsoon, Ganeshotsav and the Mumbai calendar
From June to September the southwest monsoon changes the rules. Low-lying spots such as the Andheri subway, Milan subway and parts of Hindmata can flood quickly, and the local trains slow down or stop. A chauffeur who drives these roads every day knows when to swap the Western Express Highway for the Link Road or when to wait out a cloudburst at a petrol pump. On red-alert days, booking a car with driver for the whole day is often the only way to keep a schedule.
Ganeshotsav in August or September brings processions, road closures around Lalbaug and Girgaon, and big crowds on immersion days at Girgaum Chowpatty and Juhu. Plan pandal visits in a car that will wait for you rather than trying to find a cab in the middle of the crowd. Diwali brings shopping traffic around Crawford Market, Zaveri Bazaar and Linking Road, while the wedding season from November to February fills banquet halls from Juhu to Navi Mumbai. The Maharashtra Tourism site lists festival dates and heritage timings that are worth checking when you plan a sightseeing day.
For sightseeing itself, a comfortable 8-hour loop covers the Gateway of India and Colaba Causeway, the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya, Marine Drive, Haji Ali from the road, Mahalaxmi Dhobi Ghat, and Bandra Bandstand at sunset. Elephanta Caves need a ferry from the Gateway, so the chauffeur waits while you are on the water.
Getaways: Lonavala, Nashik, Shirdi, Alibaug and Goa
Trips outside the city are billed per kilometre, with a minimum of 250 km for each calendar day of a round trip. That minimum matters for short escapes from Mumbai. Some worked examples, before GST and tolls:
- Lonavala and Khandala for the day in a Dzire: the round trip is well under 250 km, so the day minimum applies: 250 x Rs 36 = Rs 9,000 Pay Now to Reserve. Monsoon weekends on the ghat are beautiful and busy, so leave early.
- Pune for a same-day meeting: about 300 km there and back, so 300 x Rs 36 = Rs 10,800 Pay Now to Reserve in a Dzire. The Mumbai to Pune taxi page has a one-way option if you are staying on.
- Shirdi darshan and back in one long day: about 480 km, so 480 x Rs 36 = Rs 17,280 Pay Now to Reserve in a Dzire or 480 x Rs 57.6 = Rs 27,360 Pay Now to Reserve in an Innova Crysta. See Mumbai to Shirdi taxi.
- Nashik vineyards over two days in an Innova Crysta: about 340 km, below the two-day minimum of 500 km, so 500 x Rs 57.6 = Rs 28,500 plus one night's driver allowance. The Mumbai to Nashik taxi page covers the Kasara ghat.
- Goa by road over four days: about 1,180 km in total, above the 1,000 km four-day minimum, so 1,180 x Rs 57.6 = Rs 67,260 Pay Now to Reserve in an Innova Crysta plus three nights of allowance. The Mumbai to Goa taxi page has the coastal route options.
Driver night allowance is Rs 1,500 per night on multi-day trips and covers his food and bed. The Mumbai Trans Harbour Link has made Alibaug and the Konkan faster to reach, with the toll charged at actual cost like every other.
Film shoots, roadshows and event days
Mumbai's media and events industry is one of the heaviest users of time-based hire. Production crews heading to studios in Goregaon's Film City, Andheri West and Madh Island, or to a location in Gorai, usually need cars from a pre-dawn call time until well after pack-up. Those days suit the 12-hour package, with extra hours added if the shoot overruns. Exhibition and conference days at the Jio World Centre in BKC or at NESCO in Goregaon are similar: guests need to be collected from hotels in the morning, shuttled between venues and dropped at night.
For multi-car requirements, send the call sheet or event plan to the travel desk and we quote each car and each day in writing, with one GST invoice at the end. Groups that do not need a car to wait can use a one way taxi for the return, and the full range of vehicles is on the fleet page. If you are flying in for the event, the CSMIA terminal you land at decides how long the drive to BKC or Goregaon will take.
Choosing your car and booking it
A Dzire suits one or two people with airport luggage. An Ertiga carries a family of five on a budget, and the Innova Crysta remains the best all-rounder for six adults, monsoon luggage and long days. Every car we send is within four model years; only Rolls-Royce, Bentley and Maybach may be up to seven, as they are kept for occasions.
Book online by choosing Mumbai, the package and the car; the fare shows before you pay by card or UPI. Weddings, shoots and multi-car days are quoted in writing. Under our cancellation policy, cancelling more than 72 hours ahead is free, within 72 hours costs 10% of the fare, within 48 hours 50%, and within 24 hours or on a no-show the full amount.
