Punekars take their weekends seriously. The first heavy rain sends half the city to Lonavala and Tamhini ghat, Sankashti chaturthi fills the Ashtavinayak temples, and every IT team seems to plan a Mahabaleshwar offsite in October. For all of it, a tempo traveller in Pune from RutzIndia.com is the easy answer: an air-conditioned Force Traveller with 9, 12, 17, 20 or 26 seats, a driver who knows the expressway and the Sahyadri ghats, and a fixed fare you see before you pay. Urbanias and mini buses are available for bigger or more premium groups.
Pune tempo traveller hire charges
Tempo traveller hire in Pune is Rs 11,700 Pay Now to Reserve for 4 hours / 40 km, Rs 19,500 Pay Now to Reserve for 8 hours / 80 km and Rs 10,740 Pay Now to Reserve for a Pune airport transfer. Outstation trips cost Rs 78 per km with a 250 km daily minimum, so a one-way drop to Mumbai, about 150 km, is Rs 11,700 Pay Now to Reserve. GST of 5% is extra.
Pune uses our base city rate (multiplier 1.00) for local packages and airport runs, and the national per-km rate for highway travel. The Traveller column covers the 9, 12 and 17 seat bodies; the less common 20 and 26 seaters are priced on request.
| Package | Tempo Traveller (9, 12, 17 seats) | Force Urbania (10, 13, 17 seats) | Mini bus (20, 27, 35 seats) |
|---|---|---|---|
| City half day, 4 hr / 40 km | Rs 11,700 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 16,200 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 25,200 Pay Now to Reserve |
| City full day, 8 hr / 80 km | Rs 19,500 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 27,000 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 42,000 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Lohegaon airport, up to 40 km | Rs 10,740 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 14,850 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 23,100 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Outstation, per km | Rs 78 | Rs 102 | Rs 130 |
GST at 5% is charged on top. Expressway tolls, state taxes if you head into Goa or Karnataka, and parking are passed on at the receipted amount. A driver night allowance of Rs 1,500 applies for every night on the road, and outstation round trips are billed on at least 250 km for each calendar day.

Monsoon getaways into the Sahyadris
From late June to September the ghats around Pune turn into waterfalls and fog, and a Traveller lets the whole gang go without anyone designated as the sober driver. Popular plans, at Rs 78 per km on the chargeable distance before GST, tolls and parking:
- Lonavala and Khandala, about 65 km: Bhushi dam, Tiger Point and Rajmachi viewpoint. A day out falls under the 250 km minimum, Rs 19,500 Pay Now to Reserve. Weekend traffic near the Lonavala exit can be heavy from 10 am; leave by 7.
- Tamhini ghat and Mulshi, about 50 km: waterfalls along the road and lakeside resorts. Also a Rs 19,500 Pay Now to Reserve day.
- Bhimashankar, about 110 km: a jyotirlinga temple in a misty forest. The final climb is steep; a 12 or 17 seater is the right size.
- Mahabaleshwar and Panchgani, about 120 km: most groups stay a night; a two-day trip is billed on 500 km, around Rs 39,000 plus the driver's night. The strawberry season runs roughly December to March.
- Malshej ghat, about 125 km: flamingos in the rains and cloud-covered cliffs.
A word of caution: during very heavy rain, the Maharashtra authorities sometimes close tourist spots such as dams and waterfalls, and ghat roads can see landslides. Our drivers check advisories on the morning of the trip, and we would rather reroute than take risks. Destination guides and seasonal notes are on Maharashtra Tourism.
Temple circuits: Ashtavinayak, Shirdi and the jyotirlingas
- Ashtavinayak yatra: the eight Ganesh temples at Morgaon, Siddhatek, Pali, Mahad, Theur, Lenyadri, Ozar and Ranjangaon ring Pune. The full circuit is roughly 650 to 700 km, usually done over two days, which comes to about Rs 45,500 Pay Now to Reserve in a Traveller plus one driver night.
- Shirdi and Shani Shingnapur, about 185 km: a same-day return of roughly 370 km is about Rs 28,860 Pay Now to Reserve; many families stay overnight for the Kakad aarti, billed on 500 km, about Rs 39,000 Pay Now to Reserve. Darshan and aarti bookings are made on the Shri Saibaba Sansthan Trust website. For a car instead, see the Pune to Shirdi taxi page.
- Trimbakeshwar and Nashik, about 210 km: two days with Panchavati and the vineyards, billed on 500 km.
- Pandharpur, about 210 km: during the Ashadhi Ekadashi wari in June or July, roads fill with lakhs of warkaris; we plan routes and timings around the palkhi processions.
- Kolhapur Mahalaxmi, about 230 km, and Jejuri, closer to home at about 50 km, round out the pilgrim list.

The Ashtavinayak order most families follow
The eight swayambhu Ganesh temples are traditionally visited in a set sequence, starting and ending at Morgaon. A practical two-day routing from Pune that respects the tradition while keeping driving sensible:
- Day 1. Morgaon (Mayureshwar) at dawn, then Siddhatek (Siddhivinayak) on the Bhima, Theur (Chintamani) on the way back towards Pune, and across the Sahyadris to Pali (Ballaleshwar) by evening, staying overnight near Pali or Mahad.
- Day 2. Mahad (Varadvinayak) in the morning, then the long drive to Lenyadri (Girijatmaj), where a climb of a few hundred steps leads to the cave shrine, Ozar (Vighneshwar) nearby, Ranjangaon (Mahaganapati) on the Nagar road, and a closing darshan back at Morgaon before returning to Pune.
The loop comes to roughly 680 km and is billed on actual distance, Rs 53,040 Pay Now to Reserve in a Traveller, with one allowance night, tolls and GST on top. Sankashti and Angarki chaturthi days are very crowded; weekdays are calmer.
Pandharpur and the Ashadhi wari
Every June or July, lakhs of warkaris walk from Alandi and Dehu to Pandharpur behind the palkhis of Sant Dnyaneshwar and Sant Tukaram, and the Pune-Solapur and Pune-Saswad roads fill with pilgrims. Families who want to join for a day, or to reach Pandharpur for Ashadhi Ekadashi, book Travellers well ahead. On the peak days the police close stretches to vehicles and set up parking zones outside Pandharpur, so plan to walk the last part. At other times of year, Pandharpur is about 210 km away and a two-day trip with Tuljapur or Akkalkot is billed on 500 km, Rs 39,000 Pay Now to Reserve.

Forts, museums and a heritage day in Pune
Pune was the seat of the Peshwas, and a heritage day makes good use of the 8 hour / 80 km package at Rs 19,500 Pay Now to Reserve. Start at Shaniwar Wada before the day warms up, walk across to Lal Mahal and the Kasba Ganpati, then drive to the Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum with its collection of lamps, instruments and everyday objects. After lunch, the Aga Khan Palace in Yerawada tells the story of the freedom movement, and the rock-cut Pataleshwar cave temple on Jangli Maharaj Road is a quiet stop on the way back. Parking near Shaniwar Wada is limited, so the driver drops you at the gate and waits a short distance away.
Fort lovers can head for Sinhagad, about 35 km from the city, where the last stretch has vehicle rules that change with the season; the driver will park at the permitted point and the group walks or takes a local shuttle. Lohagad and Visapur near Malavli, and Rajgad and Torna further south, are day treks with the Traveller waiting at the base village. For Ajanta and Ellora, about 235 to 260 km away near Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, plan two or three days; Ellora is closed on Tuesdays and Ajanta on Mondays, so we sequence the visits accordingly.
Goa by road from Pune: a three-day plan
- Day 1, Pune to North Goa (about 450 km). Leave at 5 am on the Bengaluru highway towards Kolhapur, breakfast near Satara or Karad, lunch in Kolhapur, then down the Amboli ghat and into Goa by late afternoon. Evening at Calangute, Baga or Anjuna.
- Day 2, Goa (about 100 km). Old Goa's Basilica of Bom Jesus and Se Cathedral in the morning, Panjim's Fontainhas quarter, then Aguada fort and a sunset cruise on the Mandovi.
- Day 3, back to Pune (about 450 km). Early start to cross the ghat in daylight and reach Pune by evening.
Actual driving is about 1,000 km, billed on the real distance: about Rs 78,000 Pay Now to Reserve in a Traveller, plus two nights of allowance, Goa entry tax, tolls and GST. Parking near popular beaches is limited, so the driver drops the group and waits at the nearest paid lot.
The Konkan coast: Alibag, Harihareshwar and Ganpatipule
Pune families love the Konkan for quiet beaches and seafood. Alibag and Kashid, about 140 to 160 km via the Tamhini ghat, make a two-day trip billed on 500 km, Rs 39,000 Pay Now to Reserve. Harihareshwar and Diveagar, about 170 km via Mangaon, and Ganpatipule, about 330 km via Chiplun or Kumbharli ghat, are good three-day trips. In the monsoon, the Tamhini and Varandha ghats are spectacular but slow, and some stretches close after landslides; October to March is easier for the coast.
Tempo traveller vs Shivneri bus, Deccan Queen or several cabs
| 13 people, Pune to Mumbai for a day of sightseeing | How it is paid | Pickups from homes | Local transport in Mumbai | Luggage |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| One 17 seat Traveller | 300 km day at Rs 78 per km, plus tolls, parking and GST | Yes | Included | Inside the vehicle |
| Shivneri or e-Shivneri bus | Tickets per head | No | Separate cabs or trains | Limited |
| Deccan Queen or other trains | Tickets per head | No | Separate cabs or local trains | Carry your own |
| Three or four ride-hailing cars | One fare each, higher at peak hours | Yes | Included | Car boots |
For two or three people, the train or bus is cheaper. For a family or team moving around Mumbai all day, a Traveller is simpler and often cheaper per head.
School trips and student safety in Pune
Pune's schools send classes to the Katraj snake park and zoo, the National War Memorial Southern Command, the Aga Khan Palace, Shaniwar Wada and the Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum, and colleges take study tours to Ajanta-Ellora, Hampi or Goa. A 26 seat Traveller or a 27 seat mini bus suits most class groups. We ask for a teacher who travels with the students, a passenger list with parents' contacts and the principal's approval, and we do not schedule student groups on ghat roads after dark. Stops are agreed in advance and the driver's details reach the teacher the evening before.
What changes in the monsoon
From mid-June to September, Pune's getaways are at their best and its roads at their slowest. Waterlogged underpasses at Sinhagad Road and the Mula-Mutha crossings slow city runs; the ghats to Lonavala, Tamhini and Mahabaleshwar see fog and occasional landslides; and the district administration sometimes restricts visits to dams, waterfalls and forts after heavy rain. We build in extra time, avoid night driving on the ghats, and adjust the plan on the morning of travel when advisories change.
Areas we pick up from in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad
Hinjewadi, Wakad, Baner, Balewadi, Aundh, Pashan, Bavdhan, Kothrud, Karve Nagar, Warje, Deccan, Shivajinagar, Model Colony, Camp, Koregaon Park, Kalyani Nagar, Viman Nagar, Kharadi, Wagholi, Hadapsar, Magarpatta, Kondhwa, Undri, Katraj, Swargate, Sinhagad Road, Pimpri, Chinchwad, Nigdi, Akurdi and Bhosari, plus hotels across the city. Railway groups are met at Pune Junction, Shivajinagar and Hadapsar stations.
Allowance, interstate charges and road rules from Pune
Allowance. Each night the driver sleeps away from Pune adds 750 to 1,500 rupees; Shirdi lodges and Mahabaleshwar hotels often have a drivers' dormitory, which keeps it low.
Interstate charges. Goa charges an entry tax for tourist vehicles, and trips into Karnataka or Gujarat may involve a permit or tax. We pay and add the receipted amount.
Expressway rules. The Mumbai-Pune Expressway is tolled and has lane discipline and speed limits for heavy vehicles, which Travellers follow; the ghat section between Khopoli and Lonavala has lower limits. Pune's traffic police publish city diversions for festivals and events on the Pune Police website.
Mumbai airport and expressway transfers
Pune's own airport at Lohegaon handles most domestic flights, but many international travellers fly in and out of Mumbai. A Traveller solves the family-at-the-airport problem both ways:
- Pune to Mumbai airport one-way drop: about 150 km on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, Rs 11,700 Pay Now to Reserve at Rs 78 per km, plus expressway tolls and airport parking. Allow at least four hours before an international departure, as traffic around the Mumbai end is unpredictable. Car fares for the same route are on the Pune to Mumbai taxi page, and the reverse journey on Mumbai to Pune taxi.
- Pune airport transfers: up to 40 km for Rs 10,740 Pay Now to Reserve, which covers Viman Nagar, Koregaon Park, Kalyani Nagar, Hadapsar and most of the city; Hinjewadi and Wakad may exceed 40 km, with extra distance billed per km.
On every airport pickup the driver follows the flight status and meets you with a name board. Waiting is free for the first 60 minutes after an international arrival and 30 minutes after a domestic one, then charged at the hourly rate. For groups based in Mumbai, our Mumbai tempo traveller team can start from that end.
Mumbai for the day, with Pune pickups
Families visiting Pune often want one day in Mumbai. A Traveller leaving at 6 am reaches the Gateway of India by about 9:30, covers Colaba, the Kala Ghoda museums, Marine Drive, Chowpatty and Siddhivinayak in Prabhadevi, and heads back after an early dinner. The day is typically about 330 to 360 km, billed on actual distance at Rs 78 per km, roughly Rs 23,400, plus expressway tolls, Mumbai parking and GST. Weekday office hours in south Mumbai are slow; Sundays are far easier for a large vehicle.
Nashik wineries and the Kumbh town
Nashik, about 210 km north, combines the Trimbakeshwar jyotirlinga, Panchavati's ghats and the vineyards around Gangapur Lake and Dindori. Wineries run tastings and tours, especially in the January to March harvest season. Remember that the driver stays sober and alcohol is not consumed inside the vehicle. A two-day trip is billed on 500 km, Rs 39,000 Pay Now to Reserve. During a Simhastha Kumbh year, Nashik and Trimbak have heavy crowd controls and vehicle restrictions; we plan such trips individually.
Offsites at Mulshi, Lavasa and Kamshet
Pune's companies love quick offsites within two hours of the city. Mulshi and Tamhini resorts, the lake town of Lavasa, and Kamshet with its paragliding schools all sit 45 to 70 km away, so a day outing fits the 250 km floor, Rs 19,500 per Traveller, and an overnight stay counts as two days, Rs 39,000 Pay Now to Reserve. The monsoon makes these spots beautiful but the roads slow; allow extra time on Friday evenings.
Ganeshotsav, weddings and city events
Ganeshotsav in August or September is Pune's signature festival. The Kasba, Tambdi Jogeshwari, Guruji Talim, Tulshibaug and Kesariwada manapati mandals and the Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati draw huge crowds, and the police close large parts of the Peth areas to vehicles in the evenings. A Traveller drops your group at the nearest open road, typically on Tilak Road, Shivaji Road or near Mandai, and waits at an agreed point. The visarjan day procession runs through the night; plan to watch from one spot rather than move around.
Weddings in and around Pune use lawns and banquet halls on the outskirts, from Wagholi and Kharadi to Baner, Balewadi and Hinjewadi, and resorts towards Lonavala and Mulshi. We run 12 and 17 seat Travellers as guest shuttles and pair them with cars from luxury car rental in Pune for the couple. November to February and April to May are the busiest months.
A Maharashtrian wedding, planned vehicle by vehicle
Pune weddings typically begin with seemant pujan and the haldi at the family homes, move to the sakharpuda or sangeet evening, and culminate in the morning lagna with the antarpat and mangalashtaka, followed by a lunch reception. With guests in hotels at Baner, Wakad or near the station and the lawns out at Wagholi or on the Solapur highway, timing matters: the muhurat does not wait for a late shuttle. We give each Traveller a written timetable per event, run a standby vehicle for elders, and schedule station and airport pickups for guests arriving from Mumbai, Nagpur or abroad. The 12 hour / 120 km plan at Rs 32,370 Pay Now to Reserve suits a wedding day that starts at dawn and ends after the reception.
Kolhapur, Jyotiba and the southern temples
Kolhapur, about 230 km south on the Bengaluru highway, is the seat of the Mahalaxmi (Ambabai) temple and a food lover's city famous for misal and tambda-pandhra rassa. Families often add the Jyotiba temple on its hill, the Panhala fort and the Narsobawadi confluence. A two-day trip is charged on the 500 km floor, Rs 39,000 Pay Now to Reserve, and a three-day loop taking in Pandharpur or Tuljapur on the way back suits larger pilgrim groups.
IT parks, plants and colleges
Teams in Hinjewadi Phase 1 to 3, Kharadi's EON zone, Magarpatta and Yerawada use Travellers for offsites in Lonavala, Kamshet and Mahabaleshwar and for client visits. Automotive and engineering companies in Chakan, Talegaon and Ranjangaon book them for plant tours. Every corporate booking gets a GST invoice on the company's details, and payment can be made by card, UPI or bank transfer; daily staff runs are set up under employee transport services. Colleges around FC Road, Viman Nagar and Lavale hire 17 and 26 seat Travellers for industrial visits and trips to Sinhagad and the forts around Pune; we need a responsible adult named on every student booking.
How much is a tempo traveller in Pune in 2026? Rates by seat size
Fares updated September 2026. Pune sits on our base city card, and outstation trips use the national kilometre rates. For each seat size the table shows what decides the bill: the per-km rate, the daily kilometre floor, the driver's night allowance and the city packages, including the 12 hour option for long wedding and corporate days.
| What you pay in Pune | Traveller 9, 12 or 17 seats | Traveller 20 or 26 seats | Force Urbania | Mini bus |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Each kilometre out of Pune | Rs 78 | written quote | Rs 102 | Rs 130 |
| Smallest distance charged per outstation day | 250 km | 250 km | 250 km | 250 km |
| Driver's overnight allowance | 750 to 1,500 rupees | 750 to 1,500 rupees | 750 to 1,500 rupees | 750 to 1,500 rupees |
| City day of 8 hours and 80 km | Rs 19,500 Pay Now to Reserve | written quote | Rs 27,000 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 42,000 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Long city day of 12 hours and 120 km | Rs 32,370 Pay Now to Reserve | written quote | Rs 44,580 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 68,400 Pay Now to Reserve |
| Pune airport, up to 40 km | Rs 10,740 Pay Now to Reserve | written quote | Rs 14,850 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 23,100 Pay Now to Reserve |
How the long-day figure is built: take the eight-hour fare, multiply by 1.5, then add forty kilometres at that vehicle's outstation rate. On outstation trips the floor decides short outings: a Lonavala day of 130 km is billed on 250 km, Rs 19,500 Pay Now to Reserve, while a Shirdi day of 370 km is billed on the actual 370 km, Rs 28,860 Pay Now to Reserve.
Traveller sizes for Pune trips, explained
9 seat Maharaja Traveller
Nine roomy recliners with curtains and legroom. Pune families use it for elders on the two-day Ashtavinayak circuit and the Shirdi-Shani Shingnapur run, and companies for leadership offsites in Lavasa or Mahabaleshwar. Same Rs 78 per km as the other Travellers.
12 seat Traveller
Built for the Sahyadri ghats. It climbs Tamhini, Varandha and the Bhimashankar road comfortably and fits the narrow lanes of the Peth areas and hill-station hotels in Panchgani. It is our first suggestion for families with luggage. Seat plans are on the 12 seater tempo traveller page.
17 seat Traveller
The Hinjewadi and Kharadi team-outing favourite, and the choice for college groups heading to forts and monsoon waterfalls. Seventeen people with day bags travel well; on overnight trips keep it to about fifteen for luggage.
20 seat Traveller
Best on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, the Pune-Bengaluru highway towards Kolhapur and the Nashik road. Good for wedding loops between Baner, Wakad and Balewadi venues, less so for tight ghat roads. Quoted on request.
26 seat Traveller
For single-day trips with light bags: school outings to Sinhagad and the Katraj zoo, society trips to Lonavala, and baraat transfers. Beyond twenty-six heads, or with week-long luggage, move up to a mini bus on rent or a full coach through bus on rent.
Compare the Force Urbania on rent for a quieter premium cabin, or an Innova Crysta on rent for five or six travellers.
Trip cost from Pune: seven popular group trips
The kilometres on each bill are whichever is more: what the odometer shows for the round trip, or 250 for every date the vehicle is out. Tolls, Goa or Karnataka entry charges, parking, driver nights and 5% GST come on top.
| Group trip from Pune | Traveller total | Km on the bill | Mini bus total | Urbania total | Nights away | Days | Actual round trip |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Lonavala and Khandala | Rs 19,500 Pay Now to Reserve | 250 | Rs 33,750 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 25,500 Pay Now to Reserve | none | one | about 130 km |
| Shirdi and Shani Shingnapur | Rs 28,860 Pay Now to Reserve | 370 | Rs 49,950 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 37,740 Pay Now to Reserve | none | one | about 370 km |

| North and Old Goa | Rs 70,200 Pay Now to Reserve | 900 | Rs 1,21,500 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 91,800 Pay Now to Reserve | two | three | about 900 km |
Sixteen friends sharing the Goa trip pay under Rs 4,500 each before extras. Car fares for nearby corridors are on the Mumbai to Shirdi taxi, Mumbai to Nashik taxi and Mumbai to Goa taxi pages, and our fares page explains the billing rules.
Inside the vehicle and house rules
Every Traveller has pushback or captain seats, roof AC with vents over each row, reading lights, charging points and a music system, and is no older than four model years. It turns up washed, with a medical kit under the front seat. Cigarettes and drinks stay outside the cabin, and in a Sahyadri downpour it is the driver who decides whether to press on or wait. The Force Urbania offers individual recliners, personal AC vents and a quieter ride at Rs 102 per km, while the Maharaja version of the Traveller trades seats for legroom at the standard rate.
