Car rental with driver in Pune: rates and what they include

Pune is priced at the national base. The grid lists the full-day price first, because that is what most Pune customers book, followed by the half day and the overage rates.

The package fare includes the car, the chauffeur, fuel for the kilometres in the package and his time for the hours in it. Not included: 5% GST, Mumbai-Pune Expressway and other tolls, pay-and-park charges, and any state permit if you cross into Karnataka or Goa. Overage hours are shown rounded to the nearest ten rupees. Hinjewadi, Kharadi and the Chakan belt: hiring by the day for work

Pune's working geography is wide. The Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park at Hinjewadi sits on the far west, with traffic that backs up around Wakad and the Bhumkar Chowk junction. The EON and World Trade Center towers of Kharadi and the Magarpatta campus are on the east. Sightseeing and shopping days in Pune

A relaxed heritage day takes in Shaniwar Wada, Lal Mahal and the Kasba Ganpati temple in the old city, then the Aga Khan Palace, where Mahatma Gandhi was interned, the rock-cut Pataleshwar Caves on Jangli Maharaj Road, and Parvati Hill at sunset. Ganeshotsav, monsoon ghats and the Pune calendar

Pune celebrates Ganeshotsav with more intensity than almost anywhere else. For ten days in August or September, the old city around Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati and the Manache Ganpati is packed, several roads close, and the immersion day procession along Laxmi Road runs late into the night. The monsoon from June to September turns the ghats green. Driving the ghats in the rains: how our chauffeurs handle it

Almost every popular drive out of Pune crosses a ghat: the Bhor Ghat on the way to Lonavala and Mumbai, the Tamhini Ghat towards the Konkan, the Varandha and Pasarni ghats towards Mahabaleshwar, and the winding approach to Bhimashankar. From June to September these roads are at their most beautiful and their most demanding, with mist that cuts visibility to a few metres, small landslips, waterfalls spilling across the tarmac and heavy weekend traffic at viewpoints.

They do not stop on blind bends for photographs, however tempting the view, and will find a safe lay-by instead. They check road conditions and any closure notices before setting off, and if a stretch such as Tamhini is closed or unsafe after heavy rain, they will suggest another route rather than push on. Once you head out of the city, billing changes to kilometres, with each calendar day away charged for no less than 250 km, and the chauffeur's overnight allowance of Rs 1,500 added for each night. Tolls and permits are passed through at the receipt amount. Some examples before GST:

Which car suits a Pune day?

For a single executive with a laptop bag, the Dzire or a City class sedan is plenty, and the smaller car slips through Koregaon Park lanes more easily. Plant visits on rough service roads around Chakan and Ranjangaon are more comfortable in an Innova Crysta or a Fortuner, which ride higher and carry safety shoes and sample cases without fuss. Families of five on a sightseeing day do well in an Ertiga, while six adults with luggage for a ghat weekend should take the Innova. If the day is for a client you want to impress, the E-Class is the car to send.
