Cochin International at Nedumbassery is the arrival point for most of central Kerala: Ernakulam and Fort Kochi, Thrissur and Guruvayur, and the road up to Munnar. It is also one of India's busiest airports for Gulf traffic, which means many passengers step out with two or three large suitcases and a family waiting at home. A Kochi airport taxi booked with RutzIndia.com is sized for that: a fixed fare, the right car for your luggage, and a chauffeur who has watched your flight land.
Kochi airport taxi fare in 2026
RutzIndia.com charges Rs 3,960 Pay Now to Reserve for a sedan and Rs 6,930 Pay Now to Reserve for an Innova Crysta on a Kochi airport taxi to anywhere within 40 km of CIAL, including Aluva, Kakkanad, Edappally and Ernakulam's MG Road. Fort Kochi and Thrissur add a few kilometres at the per-km rate. GST at 5% is extra; there is no night surcharge.
Kochi sits on the national base rate card, so the airport column on our fares page applies without any city uplift. Every transfer includes 40 km. Past that line only the additional distance is charged, at twelve rupees per km in a sedan, nineteen in an Innova Crysta and twenty-six in a Tempo Traveller.
Those four columns cover most bookings. As a guide to drive times in ordinary traffic: Aluva and Angamaly take 15 to 30 minutes, Edappally, Kakkanad and Ernakulam's MG Road 45 to 80 minutes, Fort Kochi 70 to 100 minutes, Thrissur and Athirappilly about 1.5 hours, Kumarakom, Guruvayur and Alleppey around two to two and a half hours, and Munnar three to four hours up the ghat road. Evening traffic through Kalamassery and Edappally adds 20 to 30 minutes, and a heavy monsoon downpour can add a good deal more. For the rest of the fleet, the airport figure is Rs 4,950 Pay Now to Reserve for an Ertiga, Rs 5,940 Pay Now to Reserve for a premium sedan and Rs 20,640 Pay Now to Reserve for a Mercedes E-Class, each with its own per-km rate beyond 40 km. Parking or entry charges at CIAL and any tolls on the way are billed at actual cost.

T1 or T3: finding your chauffeur at CIAL
CIAL separates its traffic cleanly: domestic flights use Terminal 1 and international flights use Terminal 3, a large building on the same campus. There is a separate facility for business aviation, which we can serve on request. Tell us the flight number and we send the car to the right terminal.
Your chauffeur's name, contact and car number are sent before you fly. After landing, collect your bags (and clear immigration and customs if you are arriving from abroad), then walk out to the arrivals meeting area. The chauffeur holds a board with your name and walks you to the parking area where commercial vehicles load. If you are pushing two trolleys, he takes one.
International passengers get 60 minutes of free waiting after touchdown, and domestic passengers 30 minutes. Because we track the flight, a late arrival never costs you anything. Customs at T3 can be slow when several Gulf flights arrive together; if you go past the free window, the extra time is charged at the hourly rate on your booking, and the chauffeur will message before that happens.
The pickup sequence at CIAL, terminal by terminal
Terminal 3, international
- Immigration first. When several Gulf flights land together the queue can be long; the chauffeur already knows your landing time and will not leave.
- Baggage reclaim, then customs. If you are bringing gold, electronics or large quantities of goods, allow time for declarations.
- Out through the arrivals exit into the greeting area. Your name is on a board held by the chauffeur.
- He leads you to the parking area for commercial vehicles; with two or three trolleys he will take one.
Terminal 1, domestic
- Baggage belts, then straight out of the arrivals exit.
- The meeting point and the parking are closer here, so the whole process usually takes a few minutes after you collect your bags.
Departures
Drops are to the departures kerb of T1 or T3. Airlines on Gulf routes often ask passengers to report early because of baggage volumes, so follow the airline's advice rather than the usual rule of thumb.

Built for Gulf homecomings and heavy bags
A typical T3 arrival from Dubai, Doha, Muscat, Kuwait or Riyadh involves more luggage than a sedan boot can take: cartons, electronics and gifts as well as suitcases. Rather than squeezing, choose the car by the bags:
- Up to two large suitcases: a Dzire-class sedan is fine.
- Three to five bags and up to four people: an Innova Crysta, whose boot takes the load once the third row is folded.
- Many cartons, or family members coming to receive you: a Tempo Traveller at Rs 10,740 Pay Now to Reserve, which carries luggage behind the last seat row and still seats the welcome party.
- Two families on one flight: book two Innova Crystas under one booking so both cars wait together and leave together.
If you are unsure, list the bags in the booking notes and the desk will confirm the car. Many returning families book the airport run and then keep the same car for a day of relative visits; see our NRI car hire in India page for longer arrangements.
Night arrivals without a night premium
Much of CIAL's international traffic lands late at night or before dawn. Our fare does not change after dark, so a 2:30 am arrival to Kakkanad in an Innova Crysta is Rs 6,930 Pay Now to Reserve, exactly as at midday. Night-shift chauffeurs start rested, and roads through Aluva and Kalamassery are clear at that hour, so Ernakulam is often under an hour away.
Your confirmation includes the car plate. If family members are waiting at home rather than at the airport, you can forward them the booking link so they know when you have been collected.

Monsoon, Onam and the Sabarimala season
Kerala's calendar affects the roads:
- Southwest monsoon (June to September): heavy downpours can waterlog low stretches around Edappally, Vyttila and the city centre. Chauffeurs slow down, avoid flooded lanes and plan more time for departures. On orange or red alert days, ask us to send the car earlier; there is no charge for that.
- Onam (August or September): shopping traffic peaks in the days before, and many Keralites fly home for the festival, so book early.
- Sabarimala pilgrim season (roughly mid-November to mid-January): pilgrims from other states and abroad fly into Kochi. Large groups often move on by Tempo Traveller towards Pamba, and traffic on the pilgrim routes is heavy on peak days. Pamba is roughly 160 km from CIAL, so under the airport rule a Tempo Traveller drop is about Rs 20,100 Pay Now to Reserve (Rs 10,740 Pay Now to Reserve for 40 km plus 120 km at Rs 78) and an Innova Crysta about Rs 13,770 Pay Now to Reserve.
- Christmas and New Year: Fort Kochi fills up for the Cochin Carnival, and parking near the waterfront is tight.
From the airport into Kerala's holiday country
CIAL is the natural start of a Kerala road trip, and many travellers go from the terminal straight to the hills or the backwaters without stopping in Ernakulam:
- Munnar (about 110 km, three to four hours via Kothamangalam and Adimali), for tea estates and Eravikulam.
- Alappuzha / Alleppey (about 85 km), for houseboats and backwaters.
- Kumarakom (about 80 km), for lake resorts on Vembanad.
- Guruvayur (about 80 km), for the Sri Krishna temple.
Drops like these follow the same airport rule as the table above: the transfer fare for the first 40 km, then Rs 36 per km in a sedan or Rs 57.6 in an Innova Crysta for the rest. CIAL to Munnar is therefore about Rs 6,480 Pay Now to Reserve in a sedan and Rs 10,920 Pay Now to Reserve in an Innova Crysta, with tolls and parking at actual cost. For multi-day plans, our Kerala tour by car page sets out a Munnar, Thekkady and Alleppey circuit with round-trip pricing, and outstation cabs explains the 250 km daily minimum and the driver night allowance of Rs 1,500. A single drop is simpler as a one-way taxi.
Staying in Kochi: city rides and full-day hire
If Kochi itself is your base, the chauffeur who meets you can stay on. A local 8 hours / 80 km package is Rs 7,200 Pay Now to Reserve in a sedan and covers a Fort Kochi and Mattancherry day, with the Chinese fishing nets, the Jew Town lanes and the Dutch Palace, or a business day between Kakkanad and the port. Our car rental with driver in Kochi page has the details, and shorter hops are on taxi service in Kochi. Groups of ten or more can book a Tempo Traveller in Kochi for the full stay.
Cruise passengers arriving at the Willingdon Island terminal can book the reverse journey to CIAL on the same fare card; Willingdon Island is inside the 40 km band on most routes.
Kochi airport's own quirks worth knowing
CIAL is well known for running on solar power, and its campus is spread out, so the walk from the arrivals exit to the commercial parking area is longer than at a compact city airport. Keep your trolley until you reach the car; the chauffeur will guide you. Mobile coverage inside the customs hall can be patchy, so if your chauffeur cannot reach you, head for the meeting area and look for the name board rather than waiting for a call.
The NH-544 corridor between the airport and Ernakulam passes Angamaly, Aluva and Kalamassery, where the Kochi Metro runs overhead for much of the way. Traffic is steady rather than gridlocked, but bus stops and market junctions slow things down in the evening. For departures from South Kochi or Fort Kochi, leave about two and a half hours before a domestic flight and three and a half hours before an international one.
Prepaid taxi, app cab, bus or booked car at Kochi
CIAL has a prepaid taxi counter in the arrivals area, app cabs operate from the airport, and buses link the terminal with Aluva, where the Kochi Metro begins. Each serves a different traveller:
| Prepaid taxi counter | App cab | Bus and Metro | RutzIndia.com | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Arranged before landing | No | No | No | Yes |
| Fare | Counter tariff | App fare | Ticket fare | Fixed class fare, 40 km included |
| Waiting for you | No | No | No | Chauffeur with a name board |
| Space for cartons and several suitcases | Depends on the taxi | Depends on the category | Limited | Innova Crysta or Tempo Traveller on request |
| Onward to Munnar or Alleppey | Possible | Possible | Change of bus | Same car, same booking |
If you are a single traveller heading to Aluva by day, the bus and Metro are the cheapest route. The counter is handy if you land without a plan. A booked car makes the difference on a night arrival with a family and a load of luggage.
What your fare covers
| Covered | Extra |
|---|---|
| Vehicle, chauffeur, fuel | 5% GST |
| First 40 km | Per km beyond 40: Rs 36 sedan, Rs 57.6 Innova Crysta, Rs 84 Fortuner, Rs 78 Tempo Traveller |
| Flight tracking and meet-and-greet | Airport parking or entry charges, tolls |
| 60 min free wait (international), 30 min (domestic) | Waiting beyond that |
| Same fare at night | Interstate permit if you are going into Tamil Nadu |
Offices, hospitals and hotels on the airport run
- Infopark and SmartCity in Kakkanad, the main technology parks, about 27 to 28 km from CIAL.
- Cochin Shipyard, the port and Willingdon Island, with the cruise terminal for ship passengers.
- Edappally and Palarivattom, home to the large shopping centres and several major hospitals that draw medical visitors from the Gulf and the Maldives.
- Bolgatty and Marine Drive hotels overlooking the backwaters.
- Fort Kochi's heritage hotels and homestays in the old lanes, where the car stops at the nearest point a vehicle can reach.
Families returning for a long stay often book a monthly car rental with driver. For the extended family, a Force Urbania on rent is roomier than a Tempo Traveller, and a single car for a week is simplest as an Innova Crysta on rent. A Fortuner on rent suits guests who want an SUV. For rides in other cities, see cab booking.
Weddings and family events
Kerala weddings, whether a Hindu ceremony in Guruvayur, a church wedding in Ernakulam or a Muslim nikah in the north, bring relatives from the Gulf and beyond. We collect each relative against their own flight, or group those on the same flight into one vehicle. For decorated cars on the day itself, see wedding car rental, and for a Mercedes or BMW for the couple, luxury car rental.
Booking, payment and cancellation terms
Book on the online booker with your flight number and address, then pay by card or UPI. Corporate travellers visiting Infopark or SmartCity can add a GSTIN for a 5% GST invoice in the company name.
What the fare covers: vehicle, chauffeur, fuel, 40 km, flight tracking, meet-and-greet at arrivals and the free wait. What it leaves out: GST, airport parking or entry fees, tolls, kilometres beyond 40 and extra waiting. All vehicles carry commercial registration and are within four model years.
Cancellation is free until 72 hours before pickup. Inside 72 hours we keep 10%, inside 48 hours 50%, and inside 24 hours or for a no-show the whole fare. When the airline cancels or reschedules, we simply move the booking to the new flight. Full wording is on the cancellation policy page.
