Chennai's airport is unusually close to the city it serves. The terminals at Meenambakkam sit on GST Road, barely 8 km from Guindy and about 13 km from T. Nagar, so most rides are short. What makes them slow is the traffic on GST Road, Anna Salai and the IT corridor. A Chennai airport taxi booked through RutzIndia.com takes the guesswork out: one fixed fare, a chauffeur tracking your flight, and no night premium for the many flights that land after midnight.
Chennai airport taxi price list for 2026
Expect to pay Rs 3,960 Pay Now to Reserve for a Dzire-class sedan or Rs 6,930 Pay Now to Reserve for a six-seat Innova Crysta on a RutzIndia.com Chennai airport taxi to any address up to 40 km away. That band covers T. Nagar, Mylapore, Anna Nagar, Chennai Central, OMR and ECR up to Neelankarai. The price is fixed at all hours and excludes 5% GST and parking.
Chennai uses the national base rate card with no city uplift, so the airport column on our fares page applies directly. A transfer includes 40 km of driving; for places further out, such as Mahabalipuram or Kanchipuram, only the extra kilometres are added at the class per-km rate, which is twelve rupees a kilometre for the sedan and nineteen for the Crysta.

Domestic or international: where the chauffeur stands
Chennai's domestic and international terminal buildings stand side by side on the same campus, connected by walkways, with the airport Metro station and the suburban railway nearby. The terminal you arrive at depends on whether your flight is domestic or international, not on the airline, which makes it simpler than Delhi or Mumbai. We still ask for the flight number so the chauffeur is at the correct exit.
When you walk out of arrivals with your bags, look for your name on a board among the pre-booked drivers in the meeting area. The chauffeur then walks you to the multi-level car park or the permitted pickup lane, where commercial cars collect passengers. His name, number and the plate are sent to you before your flight departs.
Flight tracking and free waiting. We follow the flight, so the pickup moves with the real landing time. An hour of complimentary waiting follows an international landing, half an hour a domestic one. Airline delays are never billed. Should you need more time than that, the desk messages you first and then bills the extra minutes against the hourly figure printed on your confirmation.
Meeting the chauffeur: the sequence at MAA
International arrivals. Passport control, then the baggage hall, then customs. Walk out through the arrivals exit of the international building and look for your name among the pre-booked drivers. If you are carrying duty-free, keep the bag sealed until you are out of the terminal.
Domestic arrivals. Straight to the belts and out of the domestic exit. On a busy evening the meeting area is crowded, so hold your phone: the chauffeur will message the exact spot where he is standing.
Walking to the car. From either building the chauffeur walks you to the multi-level car park or the lane where commercial cars are allowed to load. With elderly passengers, he can ask you to wait at the exit while he brings the car to the closest permitted point.
Departures. The car stops at the departures kerb for your building. Keep your ticket and photo ID ready for the entry check at the terminal door.

GST Road, OMR and ECR: how the drive goes
Three road systems decide almost every Chennai airport run:
- GST Road and Anna Salai carry you north into the city: Guindy, Saidapet, Teynampet, Thousand Lights and on to Egmore and Central. Kathipara junction at Guindy is the pinch point.
- The Velachery and Medavakkam links take you east to Old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR), Chennai's IT corridor, lined with tech parks from Perungudi to Siruseri. Morning and evening shift changes make these roads heavy.
- East Coast Road (ECR) runs south along the sea past Neelankarai, Injambakkam and the resort belt towards Mahabalipuram and eventually Pondicherry.
Because the fare is fixed, the chauffeur chooses the road on traffic, not on distance. A slightly longer route that avoids a jam at Kathipara or Madhya Kailash costs you nothing more.
Late-night and early-morning flights
Many of Chennai's international connections, to the Gulf, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Colombo and Europe, land or leave in the small hours. RutzIndia.com charges the same fixed fare at 1 am as at 1 pm, with no night surcharge and no minimum-hour rules for night pickups. A family arriving from Singapore at 11:45 pm to Anna Nagar pays Rs 6,930 Pay Now to Reserve in an Innova Crysta, just as it would in the afternoon.
For departures at dawn, we suggest leaving:
- From T. Nagar, Mylapore or Adyar: two hours before a domestic flight and three before an international one.
- From Anna Nagar or Chennai Central: add 20 to 30 minutes in daytime traffic.
- From OMR, Siruseri or ECR: two and a half hours for domestic and three and a half for international at weekday peaks.

Weather, festivals and the Chennai calendar
Chennai's heavy rain comes with the northeast monsoon from October to December, and cyclone warnings in that window can flood subways and slow every road. On red-alert days we dispatch early at no extra charge and use higher roads where we can. April to June is intensely hot, so all our cars run with working air-conditioning checked before each job.
Pongal in January empties the city as families head home, then refills it; December's Margazhi music season fills Mylapore and T. Nagar sabhas with visitors. Deepavali weekends and the wedding muhurtham dates bring crowds of relatives flying in, which is when larger vehicles are booked out first.
Prepaid counters, Metro, app cabs or a booked car
Chennai gives arriving passengers a good range of options. Prepaid taxi counters in the arrivals area sell a fixed fare to your area. The Chennai Metro station at the airport connects to Guindy, Alandur and the city centre, and the suburban railway station at Tirusulam is a short walk away. App cabs pick up from a designated area. And a pre-booked chauffeur meets you at the exit.
| Prepaid counter | Metro or suburban train | App cab | RutzIndia.com chauffeur | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Booked in advance | No | No | Usually no | Yes |
| Price basis | Counter tariff by area | Ticket fare | App fare, may vary with demand | Fixed class fare, 40 km included |
| Door-to-door | Yes | No | Yes | Yes |
| Luggage-friendly for families | Depends on the car | Limited | Depends on the category | Choose Innova Crysta or Tempo Traveller |
| Late-night availability | Counter hours | Train timetable | Depends on drivers online | Booked for your flight |
The Metro is excellent value for a light traveller heading to Guindy or Egmore in daytime. For a family with luggage landing at 2 am, or a company visitor who needs a car at the door and an invoice, a booked car is the practical choice.
Charges at a glance
- In the fare: the car and driver, fuel, 40 km of driving, flight tracking, the name-board meet, free waiting and night pickups at the same price.
- Added at actual cost: airport parking or entry fees, tolls, and any interstate permit if the drop is in Andhra Pradesh or Puducherry.
- Added at the class rate: kilometres beyond 40 (Rs 36 sedan, Rs 57.6 Innova Crysta, Rs 84 Fortuner) and waiting past the free window.
- Tax: 5% GST.
Business travel: the OMR and Sriperumbudur corridors
Chennai's airport serves two large business belts. The OMR IT corridor draws consultants and delegations to Perungudi, Taramani, Sholinganallur and Siruseri. The Sriperumbudur and Oragadam industrial belt west of the airport hosts automobile and electronics plants, with visiting engineers and auditors arriving every week.
- Executives can book a premium sedan or an E-Class Mercedes, and the invoice (5% GST) can carry the company's name and GSTIN. For longer visits, our luxury car rental in Chennai keeps the same car and chauffeur for the stay.
- Groups heading to a plant for an audit or launch can travel together in a Tempo Traveller in Chennai.
- Frequent visitors are easier to manage through a monthly account under corporate car rental, and regular staff movements through employee transport services.
If you want a car at your disposal after landing, the transfer can become a car rental with driver in Chennai: 8 hours / 80 km for Rs 7,200 Pay Now to Reserve in a sedan. For point-to-point rides around town, use our taxi service in Chennai.
Medical travellers and elderly passengers
Chennai is one of India's busiest centres for medical travel, and a noticeable number of arrivals are patients and their attendants heading to hospitals on Greams Road, in Vadapalani, Porur, Guindy or along OMR. These journeys need a calmer kind of transfer. When you book, mention that a passenger is unwell or uses a wheelchair; the chauffeur will bring the car as close to the arrivals exit as the airport rules allow, help with the transfer from wheelchair to seat, and fold the chair into the boot. A higher-seated car such as the Innova Crysta is usually easier for passengers with limited mobility than a low sedan.
Families staying for several weeks of treatment often book the airport pickup together with a few local days for follow-up appointments, pharmacies and grocery runs. The 4 hours / 40 km package at Rs 4,320 Pay Now to Reserve in a sedan is designed for exactly that kind of errand, and the hospital's international desk can share your appointment times so the chauffeur plans around them. On departure, allow extra time for discharge paperwork, which rarely finishes on schedule.
Where our Chennai airport cars go
The Meenambakkam terminals sit at the meeting point of Chennai's business districts, which is why so many drops are short:
- Guindy and the industrial estate, including Olympia Tech Park and the offices along Mount Road.
- DLF Cybercity at Manapakkam and the Porur IT cluster, both minutes from the runway.
- Chennai Trade Centre at Nandambakkam, the city's main exhibition venue, a short hop for trade-fair delegates.
- Taramani and Tidel Park, and the whole OMR stretch from Perungudi to Siruseri.
- Nungambakkam, Greams Road and Anna Salai for hotels, consulates and the older corporate offices.
- Sriperumbudur, Oragadam and Mahindra World City for manufacturing plants and SEZs.
For a team that needs one vehicle all week, an Innova Crysta on rent is the usual choice, and senior guests often prefer a Fortuner on rent. Families attending a function can combine the airport run with wedding car rental in Chennai, and anyone continuing along the coast can book a one-way taxi to their next stop. Expatriates posted to the Sriperumbudur plants for months usually move to monthly car rental with driver, and single rides in any other Indian city start from cab booking.
Temple towns, the coast and Pondicherry
Chennai airport is a common starting point for trips south and west, and the car can leave from the terminal directly:
- Mahabalipuram, the UNESCO-listed Shore Temple and rock-cut monuments, is about 55 km by ECR and costs Rs 4,500 Pay Now to Reserve as an extended transfer in a sedan.
- Kanchipuram, the temple and silk-saree town, is about 60 km west.
- Pondicherry is about 150 km from Chennai down ECR. The Chennai to Pondicherry taxi is Rs 5,400 Pay Now to Reserve one way in a sedan and Rs 8,550 Pay Now to Reserve in an Innova Crysta from a city address; straight from the airport (about 140 km) the airport rule gives Rs 7,560 Pay Now to Reserve in a sedan and Rs 12,630 Pay Now to Reserve in an Innova Crysta.
- Bengaluru is about 345 km on the national highway; see the Bangalore to Chennai taxi route for the reverse direction and timings.
Weddings in Chennai often combine an airport run with the ceremony itself. For the day, wedding car rental in Chennai supplies decorated cars and guest shuttles between hotels and kalyana mandapams.
