Whether it is twelve cousins doing a Saptami night of pandals, a Sector V team heading to Mandarmani for an offsite or a joint family taking the morning train home after Gangasagar, a tempo traveller in Kolkata keeps everyone in one vehicle and out of the scramble for app cabs. RutzIndia.com rents air-conditioned Force Travellers in 9, 12, 17, 20 and 26 seat layouts with a driver who knows the city's one-way grid, plus Urbanias and mini buses for larger parties. You see the fare before you pay, and the bill carries GST for company claims.
Tempo traveller on rent in Kolkata: 2026 price list
A tempo traveller on rent in Kolkata costs Rs 11,100 Pay Now to Reserve for 4 hours and 40 km, Rs 18,540 Pay Now to Reserve for 8 hours and 80 km and Rs 10,200 Pay Now to Reserve for a transfer to or from Dum Dum airport. For Digha, Mayapur or Tarapith the rate is Rs 78 per km, with 250 km billed as the daily minimum, before 5% GST.
Kolkata local and airport prices carry the city factor of 0.95 on our national rate card, so they are slightly lower than Delhi or Mumbai. Outstation per-km rates are identical nationwide. The Traveller rates are for 9, 12 and 17 seat bodies; 20 and 26 seat Travellers are priced individually.
| Kolkata rate card | Out of town | Dum Dum airport (to 40 km) | 8 hr / 80 km in city | 4 hr / 40 km in city | Passenger seats |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tempo Traveller | Rs 78 a km | Rs 10,200 | Rs 18,540 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 11,100 Pay Now to Reserve | 9, 12 or 17 (20 and 26 on quote) |

These figures exclude 5% GST. Bridge and highway tolls, state permits and taxes if you cross into Odisha or Jharkhand, and parking are charged exactly as paid. Trips that keep the vehicle away overnight add Rs 1,500 per night for the driver, and every outstation round trip is billed on a minimum of 250 km per calendar day.

Durga Puja pandal hopping in a Traveller
For five days every autumn Kolkata becomes the world's largest open-air art gallery, and the police turn much of the city into a one-way maze. Trying to cover north and south Kolkata pandals by app cab usually means long waits and surge fares. A Traveller solves both: your group stays together, the driver drops you at the nearest permitted point and meets you on the next street, and you are not paying by the minute while queues move slowly.
A practical plan for a 12 or 17 seat Traveller on an 8 hour / 80 km package (Rs 18,540 Pay Now to Reserve):
- Start in the north around Bagbazar, Kumartuli and Ahiritola, where the idol-makers' lanes are easier before evening crowds arrive.
- Cross to the central pandals near College Square and Santosh Mitra Square.
- Finish in the south at Chetla, Suruchi Sangha, Tridhara, Deshapriya Park and the Ballygunge circuit after dark, when lighting is at its best.
Night packages from about 6 pm to 2 am are popular on Saptami, Ashtami and Navami; extra hours beyond eight are billed at the hourly rate. Puja dates move each year between late September and October, and vehicles for those nights are usually the first thing to sell out in the city, so reserve two to three weeks ahead. Kali Puja and Diwali, a fortnight later, and Jagaddhatri Puja in Chandannagar in November are the next busy dates.
Weekend getaways and pilgrimages from Kolkata
The coast, the temple towns of Nadia and Birbhum and the Sundarbans are all within one long day's drive. Fares below are Rs 78 per km on the billable distance, excluding GST, tolls, parking and driver nights.
- Digha or Mandarmani, about 185 km: a same-day return of 370 km is about Rs 28,860 Pay Now to Reserve; a two-day weekend is billed on 500 km, about Rs 39,000 plus one driver night. The Kona Expressway and NH16 via Kolaghat are the usual route.
- Mayapur ISKCON, about 130 km: a day trip of 260 km is about Rs 20,280 Pay Now to Reserve. Gaura Purnima in spring and Janmashtami are the peak days. Temple timings are on the Mayapur temple site.
- Shantiniketan and Bolpur, about 160 km: a day return of 320 km is about Rs 24,960 Pay Now to Reserve; many groups stay overnight for the Poush Mela in December or the Sonajhuri haat.
- Tarapith, about 230 km: a two-day trip bills 500 km, about Rs 39,000 Pay Now to Reserve, or about Rs 35,880 Pay Now to Reserve for a very long same-day return.
- Sundarbans (Godkhali jetty), about 100 km: the vehicle drops you at the jetty and returns to collect you after your boat package; two one-way runs usually cost less than keeping the Traveller waiting for two days.
- Gangasagar (Kakdwip / Lot 8 jetty), about 100 km: during the Gangasagar Mela around Makar Sankranti in January, police route vehicles to designated parking and traffic is heavy.
- Bishnupur, about 150 km: terracotta temples in a day, about Rs 23,400 Pay Now to Reserve for the 300 km return.
- Puri and Konark, about 500 km: a three-day tour is billed on 1,000 km, about Rs 78,000 plus two driver nights and Odisha permit charges.
For elders who prefer a car on the same trips, see our pilgrimage taxi packages or outstation cabs for sedans and Innovas.
Check Traveller availability for your dates

A heritage day in Kolkata for a group
Visitors with only one day in the city can see a great deal on the 8 hour / 80 km package at Rs 18,540 Pay Now to Reserve, provided the route is planned around traffic and parking.
- Morning, north Kolkata. Start at Kumartuli, where the idol-makers work along the river lanes, then the Marble Palace (entry by prior permission) and the book stalls of College Street with a stop at the Indian Coffee House.
- Late morning, the river. Cross the Howrah Bridge for the view, or take the ferry from Babughat to Howrah while the driver brings the Traveller round.
- Afternoon, central Kolkata. The Indian Museum on Chowringhee, St Paul's Cathedral and the Victoria Memorial, whose gardens are a pleasant place to rest.
- Evening. Princep Ghat at sunset, then dinner on Park Street or in the Chinese restaurants of Tangra.
The driver drops the group as close as the rules allow at each stop and moves the vehicle to the nearest paid lot. Parking fees are billed at actual cost.
Temple mornings inside the city
The Dakshineswar and Belur Math circuit is one of the most requested half-day runs in Kolkata. The two sit on opposite banks of the Hooghly, linked by the Vivekananda Setu and Nivedita Setu, and a 4 hour / 40 km package (Rs 11,100 Pay Now to Reserve) covers both from central Kolkata if you leave early. Coach parking is available near both campuses; the driver drops the group close to the gate and waits in the lot. Check aarti and darshan timings on the Dakshineswar Kali temple and Belur Math websites before you go, as both close in the afternoon. Add Kalighat, the Victoria Memorial and Princep Ghat for a full-day 8 hour package.

Christmas, New Year and winter fairs
Kolkata's winter is its busiest season for group travel after the Pujas. Park Street's Christmas lights and Allen Park's festival fill the street from mid-December to New Year, and vehicles can reach only the ends of the stretch in the evening. The Kolkata International Book Fair at the Central Park fair ground in Salt Lake draws huge crowds in late January and early February. The Poush Mela at Shantiniketan in December and the Gangasagar Mela around Makar Sankranti in January send thousands of families out of the city. For these dates we recommend booking two to four weeks ahead and planning early starts, and our drivers will suggest parking points that avoid the worst of the crowds.
Weddings, corporate groups and school trips
Weddings. Bengali weddings often run late into the night across banquet halls in Salt Lake, Rajarhat, Behala and along the EM Bypass, while many Marwari families host multi-day functions at garden venues on Bombay Road and around Joka. A Traveller on shuttle duty between guest hotels and the venue keeps the timetable intact. Book a 12 or 17 seater per 12 to 15 guests, and add a decorated car from our wedding car rental range. The main wedding season runs November to February, with a second peak around Baisakh in April and May.
Corporate. IT and consulting teams in Salt Lake Sector V and New Town hire Travellers and Urbanias for offsites at Mandarmani, Bolpur or Taki, for plant visits in Haldia or Durgapur and for airport runs during conferences. We invoice with GST on your company's details, and payment can be made by card, UPI or bank transfer; recurring shifts are handled under corporate car rental.
Schools and clubs. Excursions to Science City, the Birla Industrial Museum or Eco Park in New Town fit a 26 seat Traveller or a 27 seat mini bus. For 40 or more students, a full-size coach from bus on rent is more economical.
How much is a tempo traveller in Kolkata in 2026? Rates by seat size

The daily minimum matters most on short hops. A Mayapur day trip covering 260 km is billed on 260 km, Rs 20,280 Pay Now to Reserve; a Digha weekend covering only 380 km over two days is billed on 500 km, Rs 39,000 Pay Now to Reserve, plus one night of bata.
Seat sizes for Kolkata trips, one by one
9 seat Maharaja Traveller
Nine broad reclining chairs with an aisle, ideal for elderly parents heading to Mayapur, Tarapith or Puri and for NRI families home for the Pujas who want to see the city in comfort. Every passenger has room for a full-size bag, which matters on Gangasagar or Puri trips where people carry bedding and puja items. The per-km rate is the same Rs 78 as the larger Travellers.
12 seat Traveller
Kolkata's most practical size. It is short enough for the lanes of Shyambazar, Bowbazar and Howrah and for resort gates at Mandarmani, and it carries two families and their suitcases. It is the size most pandal-hopping groups choose for Durga Puja nights. See the 12 seater tempo traveller page for seat maps.
17 seat Traveller
The best value per head for office outings to Taki or Bolpur, wedding shuttles between Salt Lake hotels and banquet halls, and school trips to Science City. Seventeen adults with day bags travel comfortably; for overnight trips with luggage, keep the group to fourteen or fifteen.
20 seat Traveller
A longer body suited to the Kona Expressway, NH16 towards Kolaghat and Kharagpur, and the Durgapur Expressway. It works well for Digha and Shantiniketan runs but may have to stop on the main road in older neighbourhoods. Quoted individually.
26 seat Traveller
The largest Traveller, used by clubs, schools and large families for single-day trips such as Bishnupur or the Sundarbans jetty. With every seat filled there is little space for bags. For 30 to 45 people, a mini bus on rent or a full-size Volvo bus on rent is more comfortable.
For a premium feel, compare the Force Urbania on rent, and for five or six travellers see Innova Crysta on rent or the options on our Kolkata taxi service page.
Trip cost from Kolkata: six weekend and pilgrim trips
For each trip we take whichever is larger, the real distance there and back or 250 km for every date on the calendar, and multiply by the vehicle's rate; tolls, Odisha or Jharkhand taxes where applicable, parking, bata and 5% GST are extra.
| Kolkata to | Days | Round trip, approx. | Billed km | Traveller | Urbania | Mini bus | Bata nights |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mayapur | 1 | 260 km | 260 km | Rs 20,280 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 26,520 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 35,100 Pay Now to Reserve | 0 |
| Bishnupur | 1 | 300 km | 300 km | Rs 23,400 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 30,600 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 40,500 Pay Now to Reserve | 0 |
| Shantiniketan | 1 | 320 km | 320 km | Rs 24,960 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 32,640 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 43,200 Pay Now to Reserve | 0 |
| Digha | 2 | 370 km | 500 km | Rs 39,000 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 51,000 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 67,500 Pay Now to Reserve | 1 |
| Tarapith | 2 | 460 km | 500 km | Rs 39,000 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 51,000 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 67,500 Pay Now to Reserve | 1 |
| Puri and Konark | 3 | 1,000 km | 1,000 km | Rs 78,000 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 1,02,000 Pay Now to Reserve | Rs 1,35,000 Pay Now to Reserve | 2 |
Shared among fifteen people, the Digha weekend comes to under Rs 2,700 a head before extras, and the three-day Puri trip about Rs 5,250 Pay Now to Reserve. The billing rules are explained on our fares page.
A four-day Kolkata to Puri, Konark and Bhubaneswar plan
This is the most popular long trip for Kolkata families, and a Traveller makes it far easier than juggling train berths, autos and hotel taxis.
- Day 1, Kolkata to Puri (about 500 km). Leave by 5 am on NH16 via Kolaghat, Kharagpur and Balasore, with a breakfast stop past Kolaghat and lunch near Balasore. Reach Puri by evening and walk to the sea.
- Day 2, Puri. Early darshan at the Jagannath temple (non-Hindus are not permitted inside; the driver can suggest the viewing terrace opposite), then the beach and Swargadwar.
- Day 3, Konark and Bhubaneswar (about 130 km). The Sun Temple at Konark in the morning, Chandrabhaga beach, then Lingaraj, Mukteswar and the Udayagiri caves in Bhubaneswar before returning to Puri.
- Day 4, Puri to Kolkata (about 500 km). Start at dawn to reach home by evening.
Real driving is about 1,150 km and four days carry a 1,000 km floor, so the bill is on actual distance: about Rs 89,700 Pay Now to Reserve in a Traveller, plus three nights of bata, tolls, Odisha permit charges and GST. Around the Rath Yatra in June or July, Puri is closed to most vehicles near the Grand Road; we plan parking and a walk in.
Deoghar, Rajgir and pilgrim trips into Jharkhand and Bihar
Baba Baidyanath Dham at Deoghar, about 360 km from Kolkata, is one of the twelve jyotirlingas and a regular destination for Bengali families, especially in Shravan when kanwariyas walk from Sultanganj and crowds are very large. A two-day trip covers roughly 720 km and is billed on that distance, about Rs 56,160 Pay Now to Reserve in a Traveller, plus a night of bata, Jharkhand entry charges and GST. Many groups add Trikut hill or Basukinath. Further west, Rajgir, Nalanda and Pawapuri in Bihar make a good three or four day circuit for Jain and Buddhist pilgrims; we plan night halts so the driver is fresh for the return.
A Bengali wedding, run by the clock
A typical Kolkata wedding day shows how a Traveller fleet earns its keep. In the morning, the gaye holud is held at both homes, and relatives need moving between the two. By late afternoon, the groom's party gathers for the bor jatri to the bride's venue, often a banquet hall on EM Bypass, in Salt Lake or in Behala, with the groom in a decorated car and relatives following in one or two Travellers. The ceremony often runs late into the night depending on the lagna, and elders need a ride home before the rest. The next day brings the bou bhat reception at the groom's side. We schedule each vehicle against these events, keep a standby for elders and send a single GST invoice at the end. Decorated cars are available through our wedding car rental service.
North Bengal, the Dooars and Darjeeling
Families often ask about driving to Darjeeling, Gangtok or the Dooars. The road distance from Kolkata to Siliguri is roughly 560 to 600 km, a long day before the hill climb even starts, so most groups fly to Bagdogra or take an overnight train to New Jalpaiguri and hire a hill vehicle locally. If you prefer to drive the whole way, we plan it over two days each way with a halt at Malda or Farakka, billed on at least 250 km per day plus bata.
Tempo traveller vs trains, buses and app cabs from Kolkata
| 14 people, Kolkata to Digha for a weekend | How it works | Door to door | Luggage | Timing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| One 17 seat Traveller | Rs 39,000 plus tolls, one night of bata and GST | Yes | Inside plus roof carrier | Leave when you like, stop at Kolaghat for breakfast |
| Train to Digha | Tickets per head plus autos at both ends | No | Carry your own | Fixed departures, crowded on weekends |
| Government or private bus | Lowest per head | No | Limited | Fixed stops |
| Three or four app cabs | Separate fares, surge at peak times | Yes | Boot of each car | Group separates on the highway |
For two or three travellers, the train is excellent value. From eight people upwards, the Traveller is usually cheaper per head and far easier with children, elders and luggage.
Areas we cover in Kolkata and around
Pickups at the Kolkata rate card are available from Park Street, Esplanade, Ballygunge, Gariahat, Tollygunge, Jadavpur, Behala, Alipore, New Alipore, Garden Reach, Kalighat, Bhowanipore, Shyambazar, Baranagar, Dum Dum, Lake Town, Kestopur, Salt Lake, Sector V, New Town, Rajarhat, EM Bypass, Garia, Barrackpore, Howrah, Shibpur and Santragachi. Groups are met at Howrah, Sealdah, Kolkata (Chitpur) and Shalimar stations, and at hotels across the city.
Bata, interstate taxes and highway notes for Bengal trips
Driver bata. Rs 1,500 per night on overnight trips, depending on the destination and whether the hotel provides a drivers' room; Digha and Puri hotels usually do.
Interstate charges. Trips into Odisha (Puri, Konark, Chandipur) or Jharkhand (Deoghar, Ranchi, Netarhat) may attract a border tax or permit fee, which we pay and add at actual cost. Guidance on tourist vehicle permits is published by the transport ministry; national tourism information is on the Ministry of Tourism website.
Highways. NH16 towards Kharagpur and Odisha, the Kona Expressway and the Durgapur Expressway are tolled. Fog on winter mornings from December to January and waterlogging in the monsoon slow journeys; the driver will build in time.
Regular Traveller, Maharaja or Urbania in Kolkata
Regular Traveller (12, 17, 20 or 26 seats). Pushback seats, roof AC with vents over every row, reading lights, charging points and a music system. It is the dependable choice for Puja nights, Digha weekends and pilgrim runs.
Maharaja Traveller (9 seats). Fewer, much larger reclining chairs with curtains and extra legroom. It turns the long NH16 drive to Puri into a comfortable ride for elders and is the same per-km rate.
Force Urbania (up to 17 seats). A quieter, smoother van with individual recliners and AC vents, better suited to Kolkata's patchy stretches and speed breakers. At Rs 102 per km and Rs 25,650 for a city day, it is used for corporate delegations and wedding VIPs.
All of them are four model years old or newer, come washed and vacuumed to your door and keep a medical kit on board. Nobody may smoke or drink inside, and the driver has the final say on safety, including driving through waterlogged roads in the monsoon. Please mention wheelchairs, prams, dhak drums or large Puja equipment when you book so we can plan space.
Luggage, food and comfort on long Bengal drives
Bengali families travel with plenty: tiffin carriers, bedding for the dharamshala, puja baskets and bags of sweets for relatives. A 12 seater takes one suitcase and one soft bag per person comfortably, with a covered roof carrier for the rest; a full 17 seater is tighter. Tell us when you book if you are carrying a harmonium, dhak, large gift hampers or wedding trunks.
On NH16 there are clean dhabas and highway restaurants past Kolaghat and around Kharagpur and Balasore for the Odisha run, and on the Durgapur Expressway around Shaktigarh, famous for its langcha. The driver stops roughly every two to three hours, and more often for elders. Eating inside the vehicle is fine, though we request no paan or gutka, which stain the upholstery.
Conventions and conferences
The Biswa Bangla Convention Centre in New Town, the Science City auditorium and the large hotels on EM Bypass host medical, IT and trade conferences through the year. Organisers hand us the delegate list and session times; we put Travellers and Urbanias on timed circuits from each hotel, bill the organiser's GSTIN, and accept card, UPI or bank payment. For month-long projects or visiting teams, see monthly car rental with driver.
Station and airport pickups
Many groups arrive by train. Drivers meet you at the Howrah station taxi and bus bay, at Sealdah, or at Kolkata (Chitpur) station, which serves several long-distance trains; share the coach and seat numbers and we plan the meeting point. At Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Dum Dum, about 17 km from Park Street and closer to Salt Lake and New Town, the driver tracks your flight and holds a name board at arrivals. You get 60 minutes of free waiting after an international flight and 30 minutes after a domestic one, after which the hourly rate applies.
Monsoon, traffic and parking in Kolkata
- Monsoon (June to September): heavy showers can waterlog stretches around Thanthania, Park Circus and parts of Salt Lake within an hour. Drivers track alerts and reroute; keep a buffer for airport and station runs.
- Rush hours: the Howrah Bridge, AJC Bose Road flyover and EM Bypass slow down from about 9 to 11 am and 5 to 8 pm. Early starts make an 8 hour package go much further.
- Parking: Esplanade, New Market and Park Street have paid lots; the driver drops you close and parks there. Parking fees are billed at actual cost.
How to book and what the fare covers
Enter your pickup address, date, seat count and plan on the booking page, and you will see a fixed fare. Pay an advance by card or UPI; driver and vehicle details arrive the evening before. The fare includes the vehicle, fuel, AC, the driver and his meals on local duties; tolls, permits, parking and night allowances are extra as described above. Every vehicle is within four model years. For multi-city or multi-vehicle plans, WhatsApp the desk or call us for a written quote, and see car rental with driver in Kolkata for chauffeured cars on the same trip.
Cancellation is free until 72 hours before pickup. After that we keep 10% of the fare if you cancel within 72 hours, 50% within 48 hours and the full fare within 24 hours or if the vehicle is not used. Details are on the cancellation policy page.
